Zelma Ferry Cook Bell
15 March 2002

LIVERMORE - Zelma Ferry Cook Bell, 72, of Livermore died Wednesday, March 13, 2002, in Owensboro. The Grayson County native retired from Gabe's Restaurant and was a member of Livermore Missionary Baptist Church. She was a member of Young at Hearts and Livermore Senior Citizens and enjoyed University of Kentucky basketball, quilting, gardening and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert T. Cook, on May 31, 1962, and Jesse Bell, on Jan. 19, 1990; and a stepson, Larry Bell, on May 2, 1998.

Survivors include three sons, Montie "Butch" Cook and David W. Cook, both of Owensboro, and Robert D. Cook of Lexington; two daughters, Joan Bell of Livermore and Janella Fulkerson of Owensboro; a stepson, John Bell of Livermore; a stepdaughter, Faye Howard of Owensboro; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Stoy Ferry of Whiting, Ind., and Denver Ferry of Sebring, Fla.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in McCrady Creek cemetery in Grayson County. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice Association, 723 Harvard Drive, Owensboro, KY 42301.

Helen Y. Worthington

PANTHER - Helen Y. Worthington, 75, of Panther died Sunday, March 10, 2002, at Riverside Manor Health Care Center in Calhoun. The Beaver Dam native retired from K-Mart Corp. of Owensboro after several years, was a member of Brushy Fork Baptist Church in Daviess County and enjoyed quilting, reading and flower gardening.

Survivors include two sons, William R. Worthington Jr. of Panther and William Guy Worthington of Owensboro; a daughter, Gayle Vanover of Panther; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Virginia Horton of Owensboro.

Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel. Burial will be in Brushy Fork cemetery in Daviess County. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Lucile Hulsey Wahl

BEECH GROVE - Lucile Hulsey Wahl, 87, of Beech Grove died Thursday, March 7, 2002, at Colonial Terrace Nursing Home in Sebree. The Daviess County native was a homemaker, had been a member of Beulah General Baptist Church in McLean County for more than 70 years and sang in the church choir. She enjoyed quilting, traveling and spending time with her family. Her husband, Eck Wahl, died June 29, 1999.

Survivors include two sons, Wilbur Lee Wahl of West Louisville and Peck Wahl of Calhoun; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Alta Moss and Pauline Faith, both of Owensboro, and Helen Lee Ward of Beech Grove; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel. Burial will be in Beulah General Baptist cemetery in McLean County. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday and after 9 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Beulah General Baptist cemetery Fund, c/o Sandy Baird, 8397 Kentucky 140, Calhoun, KY 42327.

Pearl Martin

GLENVILLE - Pearl Martin, 91, of Glenville died Monday, March 4, 2002, at her home. The Smith Center, Kansas, native was a homemaker and member of Glenville Baptist Church. She was a member of Women on Mission at Glenville Baptist Church, Glenville Homemakers and enjoyed quilting and spending time with her family. Her husband, Jake Martin, died Jan. 2, 1992.

Survivors include a daughter, Claudette Turner of Glenville; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel. Burial will be in Calhoun cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 8 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Franklin Turner Jr. Missionary Work Fund, c/o Claudette Turner, 10541 Gibson Mill Road, Utica, KY 42376.

Leona T. Butler
3 March 2002

Leona T. Butler, 81, of Owensboro died Saturday, March 2, 2002, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The McLean County native retired from Highland Elementary School in 1982 as a cook and was a member of Crabtree Avenue Baptist Church. A son, David Cecil Butler, died in 1956.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Cecil Butler; a son, John Butler of Gilbertsville; three daughters, Becky Moseley, Pat Cook and Sue Welborn, all of Owensboro; and two brothers, Jack Thomas and Bill Thomas, both of Owensboro.

Services are at 1 p.m. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Alzheimer's Association.

Louise Green

ROCKPORT, Ind. - Louise Green, 73, of Rockport died Friday, March 29, 2002, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. The Eureka, Ind., native was a member of Bethel Christian Center in Reo, Ind. Her husband, James R. Green, died in 1996.

Survivors include three daughters, Sue Embry and Faye McBride, both of Rockport, Ind., and Sherry Wendel of Newburgh, Ind.; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, James Horn of Hatfield, Ind., and William Horn of Evansville.

Services are at 1 p.m. Monday at Bethel Christian Center in Reo. Burial will be in James Parker cemetery in Hatfield. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8 to 11 a.m. Monday at Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport and after noon Monday at the church. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Bethel Christian Center or Leukemia Society of America.

Dorothy Hornback

RICHLAND, Ind. - Dorothy Hornback, 82, of Richland died Thursday, March 28, 2002, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Evansville. The Lancaster, Ohio, native was a social worker and member of Richland United Methodist Church. She was also a member of Richland Chapter 418 Order of the Eastern Star and Senior Homemaker Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard R. Hornback, in 1985; and a daughter, Sally Schaeffer, in 1972.

Survivors include a son, Edgar Hornback of Indianapolis; a daughter, Susie Carpenter of Richland; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nephews and nieces.

Services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport, Ind. Burial will be in Hackleman cemetery in Chrisney, Ind. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday and after 8 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Eastern Star memorial services are at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Richland United Methodist Church or Hackleman cemetery.

James W. 'Jim' Miller Jr.

CALHOUN - James W. "Jim" Miller Jr., 40, of Calhoun died Friday, March 29, 2002, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Louisville native was a maintenance coordinator at Dana Corp. in Owensboro, a born-again Christian and attended St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Calhoun. He was an Army veteran, black belt in karate and enjoyed spending time with his children, playing pool and listening to Christian rock music.

Survivors include his wife, Bernie Edwards Miller; three daughters, Karissa Miller, Miranda Miller and Felicia Miller, all at home; his father, James W. "Bill" Miller of Livermore; his mother and stepfather, Phyllis "Joan" and Mitch Fuson of Beaver Dam; two brothers, Ron Miller of Centertown and Jerry Miller of Beaver Dam; two sisters, Vicky Miller and Cindy Wimsatt, both of Beaver Dam; a stepbrother, David Fuson of Morganfield; two stepsisters, Ann Barnett of Morganfield and Judy Chai of Owensboro; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Calhoun. Burial will be in New Salem cemetery in McLean County. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel. Prayers will be said at 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to James W. Miller Jr.'s Children Educational Fund, c/o AREA Bank, P.O. Box 130, Calhoun, KY 42327.

Linda Shock Berry

Linda Shock Berry, 43, of Owensboro died Saturday, March 16, 2002. She was a waitress and enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors include a son, Steven Dakota Shock of Owensboro; a daughter, Krystle Shock of Owensboro; her parents, June Ann Pycke and Marvin Dean Pycke of Attica, Ind.; and a brother, Jim Stovall of Henderson.

Maus Funeral Home in Attica is in charge of arrangements.

James Lee Sumner

James Lee Sumner, 58, of 4600 McIntire Crossing, Owensboro, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Muhlenberg County native retired from American General Insurance after 30 years and was a funeral counselor at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home for seven years. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Chamber of Commerce and Masonic Lodge 130 and enjoyed fishing, nature, golf, NASCAR and spending time with family and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Doris Sumner; three sons, James Byron Sumner of Owensboro, Aaron Todd Sumner of Philpot and Darren Chad Sumner of Louisville; a daughter, Dana R. Thornberry of Owensboro; five grandchildren; three sisters, Shirley McDonald and Sandra Jones of Owensboro and Jamie Austin of Central City; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove cemetery in Daviess County. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Owensboro Breakfast Rotary Club, P.O. Leo W. Graves

TELL CITY, Ind. - Leo W. Graves, 84, of Tell City died there Sunday, March 3, 2002, at Perry County Memorial Hospital. The Perry County native owned, operated and remained involved in Tell City Feed & Grain from 1955 to 1998 and graduated from Leopold High School in 1936. He was a member of American Legion Post 213, Veterans of Foreign Wars 2939 and St. Marks Catholic Church and was an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mildred Kellems Graves; five sons, Wayne Graves of Swanton, Ohio, Robert Graves and Dennis Graves, both of Charlestown, Ind., and Donald Graves and Richard Graves, both of Tell City; three daughters, Mary Kaye Zuelly of Santa Claus, Ind., and Janice Hackbarth and Susan Carman, both of Tell City; 15 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and a sister, Betty Dowell of Hatfield, Ind.

Services are at 11 a.m. EST Wednesday at St. Marks Catholic Church near Tell City. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Huber Funeral Home-Tell City chapel. Prayers will be said at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Perry County Community Foundation, St. Marks cemetery or Perry Central Athletic Fund.

Aleene Love Abney

CALHOUN - Aleene Love Abney, 68, of Calhoun died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Owensboro native was a homemaker and member of Calhoun Holiness Church. She enjoyed family and singing gospel songs.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Jean B. Abney; two daughters, Deborah L. Cheatham of Kansas City, Mo., and Stephanie J. King of Calhoun; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Dan E. Love of Gaithersburg, Md.

Services are at 11 a.m. Monday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel. Burial will be in Calhoun cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 8 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
