Jennifer Ann Johnson, 52, of Owensboro died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at her home. The Daviess County native had been a secretary at Precious Blood Catholic Church and was a Catholic. She was a Kentucky Colonel, received an associate's degree from University of Kentucky and attended Kentucky Wesleyan College.

Survivors include her father, Leo Johnson of Owensboro; seven brothers, Dennis Johnson, Jeff Johnson, Mark Johnson and Kelley Johnson, all of Owensboro, Byron Johnson of Stanley, Scott Johnson of Masonville and Dane Johnson of Whitesville; two sisters, Susan Cecil and Rose Haas, both of Owensboro; six nephews and seven nieces; and a great-nephew and two great-nieces.

Services are at 11 a.m. Friday at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville. Private burial will be in Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice Association.

Margie Riley Simpson

Margie Riley Simpson, 73, of Owensboro died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Hancock County native was a homemaker and member of St. Stephen Cathedral in Owensboro. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norwood Simpson.

Survivors include several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 2 p.m. Friday at Taylor-Raymond-Spear Funeral Home in Lewisport. Burial will be in Memory Gardens cemetery in Hawesville. Visitation is from 4 to 8 today and after 8 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mary Beverly Gillim
26 March 2002

Mary Beverly Gillim, 90, of Owensboro, formerly of Ensor, died Monday, March 25, 2002, at Hillcrest Nursing Home. The Daviess County native had worked at Ken-Rad and cleaned for South Hampton Baptist Church. She was a member of Walnut Memorial Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with friends and family.

Survivors include three brothers, Franklin Gillim and Urey Lee Gillim, both of Owensboro, and Hugh Wendall Gillim of Philpot; and a sister, Marjorie Swope of Philpot.

Services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Yellow Creek cemetery in Daviess County. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

David Ray Howell
17 March 2002

TELL CITY, Ind. - David Ray Howell, 39, of Tell City died Friday, March 15, 2002, at his home. The Perry County (Ind.) native graduated from Perry County High School and was an ironworker. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and collecting arrowheads.

Survivors include three brothers, Michael Howell and Rick Howell, both of Tell City, and Keith Howell of Leopold, Ind.; a sister, Kelli Braunecker of Cannelton, Ind.; four nephews; and six nieces.

Services are at 2 p.m. EST today at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home in Tell City. Burial will be in Lilly Dale cemetery in Gatchel, Ind. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after noon Monday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Lilly Dale cemetery.

Helen Grady Chapman
27 March 2002

Helen Grady Chapman, 89, of Hillcrest Healthcare Center, Owensboro, formerly of 1905 E. 19th St., died Monday, March 25, 2002, at Hillcrest Healthcare Center. The Daviess County native retired from Wendell Foster Center as a cook after 30 years and was a member of Owensboro Christian Church.

Survivors include two sons, Joseph Lee "Joe" Chapman of Owensboro and Fred Chapman of Leonard, Texas; two daughters, Linda Oost and Mary Ann Rhineburger, both of Owensboro; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Geraldine Lewis of Owensboro.

Services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Elmer Clinton Calhoun Sr.
30 March 2002

Elmer Clinton Calhoun Sr., 91, of Eddyville died Thursday, March 28, 2002, at Hilltop Nursing Home in Kuttawa. The Rowlesburg, W.Va., native retired as owner of Calhoun Insurance Agency in Owensboro and was a member of Parrish Avenue Church of Christ in Owensboro. He was a World War II Army veteran and Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 696 member. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Layton Calhoun, in 1958; another wife, Anna Lee Wilson Calhoun, in 2000; a daughter, Betty Augustus, in 2000; and a stepson, Charles Marcy, in 2001.

Survivors include two sons, James Calhoun and Elmer Calhoun Jr., both of Portland, Ore.; a stepdaughter, Carolyn Huff of Horse Branch; 11 grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; and a sister, Isabell Taylor of Rowlesburg.

Services are at 2 p.m. Monday at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery in Horse Branch. Visitation is after 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Edward Douglas Nabours
31 March 2002

OLATON - Edward Douglas Nabours, 66, of Olaton died Friday, March 29, 2002, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Ohio County native retired from LTV Steel after 30 years and was a farmer for 16 years.

Survivors include his wife, Evalene Doolin Nabours; a son, Terry E. Nabours of Boswell, Ind.; two daughters, Patricia G. Denton of Rensselaer, Ind., and Anita J. Hawk of Smithland; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his mother, Rena M. Nabours of Olaton; a sister, Betty Keith of Hammond, Ind., and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bevil Bros. Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Burial will be in Mount Vernon cemetery near Olaton. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Jorge Contreras-Rivera
29 March 2002

CORYDON, Ind. - Jorge Contreras-Rivera, 39, of Corydon and Owensboro died Friday, March 22, 2002, in Corydon. The Campeche, Mexico, native was a laborer.

Survivors include his mother, Cristina Rivera-Hernanzez of Mexico.

Memorial services are at later date. There is no visitation. Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro is in charge of arrangements.

Harold A. Franzman

TELL CITY, Ind. - Harold A. Franzman, 79, of Tell City died Thursday, March 28, 2002, at Newburgh (Ind.) Health Care Center. The Cannelton, Ind., native graduated from Cannelton High School and Indiana University and was a proofreader for Arizona Republic newspaper and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was director of personnel at General Electric in Tell City, Owensboro and Warren, Ohio, and was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church. His wife of 54 years, Bettye J. Mills Franzman, died Dec. 12, 2001.

Survivors include two sons, Harold A. Franzman II and Pete E. Franzman, both of Tell City; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Marian Bruggenschmidt of Tell City and Betty Jo Mattingly of Evansville.

Services are at 11 a.m. EST Saturday at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home in Tell City. Private burial will be in Greenwood cemetery in Tell City. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Loyal Order of Moose services are at 6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. American Legion Post 213 will conduct military rites at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Perry County (Ind.) Memorial Hospital Foundation.

Pauline Baird Dunbar

Pauline Baird Dunbar, 83, formerly of Owensboro, died Friday, March 8, 2002, in Rockledge, Fla. The Ohio County native was a homemaker, a member of Crabtree Avenue Baptist Church and enjoyed baby-sitting. Her husband, John R. "Jack" Dunbar, died in 1982.

Survivors include a son, Billy Norris Park of Cocoa, Fla.; a stepson, John R. "Robbie" Dunbar of Louisville; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; a brother, Charles Baird of Portsmouth, Va.; a sister, Imogene Baird Horn of Owensboro; several nephews and nieces; and several great-nephews and great-nieces.

There are no services or visitation. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro is in charge of local arrangements.

James H. 'Hap' Harpe
23 March 2002

TELL CITY, Ind. - James H. "Hap" Harpe, 83, of Tell City died Thursday, March 21, 2002, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Tell City native retired from General Electric in Tell City in 1980 after 32 years and was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran. He was a member of American Legion Post 213, 40 & 8 Voiture 952 and past commander of the American Legion Post 213. He enjoyed fishing and tinkering with lawn mowers.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Opal Harpe; two sons, James A. "Bubba" Harpe and Brett W. Harpe, both of Tell City; three grandsons; four granddaughters; and five great-grandchildren.

Services are at 2 p.m. EST Sunday at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home in Tell City. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery in Tell City, with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 213. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 11 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Evangelical United Church of Christ or the Visiting Nurse Association.
