Brian L. Phillips, 24, of Owensboro died Friday, March 29, 2002, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Owensboro native was a member of 10th Street Baptist Church and enjoyed football, basketball and baseball.

Survivors include his companion, Katrina Greer; two sons, Arius Phillips and Aireon Phillips; a daughter, Adajia Phillips; his parents, David Sr. and Deborah Phillips; and two brothers, John Horlander and David Phillips Jr.

Services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday at 10th Street Baptist Church in Owensboro. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Young's Funeral Home in Owensboro.

Edwin B. Smith

MORGANTOWN - Edwin B. Smith, 78, of Rochester died Sunday, March 10, 2002, at The Medical Center at Bowling Green. The Muhlenberg County native retired from Tennessee Valley Authority and was a Baptist. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Cassia Masonic Lodge 272 F&AM, Scottish Rite in Madisonville. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ada Pauline Peay Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Eva Jean Staples Smith; a son, Dannie Smith of Drakesboro; two daughters, Theresa Leny of Greenfield, Ind., and Elaine Felty of Morgantown; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Ellis Smith of Belton; and a sister, Emelda Reynolds of Drakesboro.

Services are at 2 p.m. today at Jones Funeral Chapel in Morgantown. Burial will be in Rochester cemetery.

Virginia Simon Payne

Virginia Simon Payne, 85, of 514 Allen St., Owensboro, died Sunday, March 24, 2002, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Edmonson County native was a homemaker, a member of St. Stephen Cathedral, Daughters of Isabella, Legion of Mary and Right to Life and enjoyed church, visiting nursing homes and spending time with her family.

Survivors include three sons, Robert E. Payne of Philpot, John Dale Payne of Knottsville and David Ricky Payne of Utica; two daughters, Linda Jean Payne of Roseville and Mary Elaine Puckett of Owensboro; 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, James Wallace Simon of Owensboro; and a sister, Mary Inez Hornsby of Owensboro.

Services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Stephen Cathedral in Owensboro. Burial will be in Resurrection cemetery in Daviess County. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home. Prayers will be said at 5 p.m. today at the funeral home. Legion of Mary prayers will be said at 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Wendell D. Ray
29 March 2002

Wendell D. Ray, 75, of 4107 Mason Woods Lane, Owensboro, died Thursday, March 28, 2002, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Daviess County native retired after 38 years from A.E. Staley Management Co. as regional sales manager and was a Christian and an Air Force veteran of World War II. His wife, Katheryn Wood Ray, died July 4, 1987.

Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Ray-Bradford of Harleysville, Pa.; a brother, Jack Ray of Bloomington, Ind.; and a sister, Nita Cowger of Owensboro.

Memorial services are at 4 p.m. Monday at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Arlington Memorial Park in Atlanta. Visitation is after 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to American Heart Association, Ohio Valley Affiliate, 333 Guthrie St., Suite 207, Louisville, KY 40202.

Everett Guillaume

TELL CITY, Ind. - Everett Guillaume, 80, of Tell City died there Tuesday, March 26, 2002, at Beverly Health Care. The Leopold, Ind., native was owner-operator of the first Marksman Inn Restaurant (1959) in Tell City and owned Guillaume Trucking and Gingerbread Haus Floral Shop. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars 2939 and Royal Neighbors of America.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Imogene "Jean" Little Guillaume; a son, H. David Devillez of St. Croix, Ind.; a daughter, Dorothy "Dot" Sutcliffe of Tell City; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services are at 9:30 a.m. EST Thursday at St. Paul Catholic Church in Tell City. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery in Tell City with military rites conducted by VFW 2939. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 to 9:15 a.m. Thursday at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home in Tell City. Prayers will be said at 6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to a favorite charity.

Louise R. Gibson

EVANSVILLE - Louise Rowan Gibson, 80, of Evansville died Sunday, March 24, 2002, at her home from lung cancer. The Muhlenberg County native worked at Evansville Store and Stewart's Department Store in retail sales and was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ. She was a member of Ladies Auxiliary of Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 427 and enjoyed dancing and music.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Gibson Henning of Crossville, Ill.; three grandchildren; a sister, Geneva May of Owensboro; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Alexander East Chapel in Evansville. Burial will be in Phillipstown cemetery in White County, Ill. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to VNA Hospice.

Lawrence Albert 'Papaw' Anderson

Lawrence Albert "Papaw" Anderson, 80, of 344 Weikel Drive, Owensboro, died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, at his home. The Daviess County native retired from General Electric Co. and was a constable in Daviess County for 16 years. He was a member of Dawson Baptist Church, an Army veteran of World War II and enjoyed gardening and bush hogging. His first wife, Imogene Anderson, died Aug. 4, 2000.

Survivors include his wife, Delma Anderson; four sons, Alvis Anderson, Gary Anderson and Norman Anderson, all of Owensboro, and Tony Anderson of Philpot; three daughters, Donna Boling and Patsy Clark, both of Owensboro, and Becky Boling of Whitesville; a stepson, Daniel Hulsey of Owensboro; four stepdaughters. Sharon Alvey and Bonnie Mason, both of Owensboro, Marion Jackson of Cloverport and Chris Brown of Utica; 25 grandchildren; 15 stepgrandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 15 stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother, Bert Anderson of Owensboro; and a sister, Daisy Watts of Greenville.

Services are at 1 p.m. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 1:30 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice Association, Inc., 723 Harvard Drive, Owensboro, KY 42301.

Helen Mae Guy

CENTRAL CITY - Helen Mae Guy, 92, of Central City died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, at her home. The Muhlenberg County native was a homemaker and a Pentecostal.

Survivors include five sons, James Everett Guy of Mission, Texas, Lyndell C. Guy, Donald R. Guy and Charlie K. Guy, all of Powderly, and Harold R. Guy of Greenville; a daughter, Norma Morgan of Lake Qurich, Ill.; and 16 grandchildren.

Services are at 11 a.m. Friday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens cemetery in Powderly. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Patsy Jean 'Pat' Ware
31 March 2002

Patsy Jean "Pat" Ware, 63, of 1742 E. 26th St., Owensboro, died Friday, March 29, 2002, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Ohio County native was a receptionist at Kentucky Legal Services, a member of First Baptist Church and Fraternal Order of Eagles and enjoyed painting and crafts. Her husband, Kenneth Owen "Buck" Ware, died May 6, 1989.

Survivors include a daughter, Lee Ann Ware of Owensboro; a brother, Galen Acton of Evansville; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday and after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Anna M. Held

TELL CITY, Ind. - Anna M. Held, 81, of Tell City died Monday, March 18, 2002, at her home. The Spencer County, Ind., native retired from General Electric Co. in Tell City after 30 years, was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ and enjoyed raising vegetables and flowers in her garden. Her husband, Norman G. Held, died Oct. 20, 2001.

Survivors include two sons, Norman C. Held and Paul F. Held, both of Tell City; three grandchildren; a great-grandson; and three sisters, Edna Anderson of Rockport, Ind., Matilda Heilman of Dale, Ind., and Mary Jane Courchesne of Casselberry, Fla.

Services are at 11 a.m. EST Thursday at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City chapel. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery in Tell City. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Evangelical United Church of Christ in Tell City.

Connie Beatrice Guinn

BREMEN - Connie Beatrice Guinn, 57, of Bremen died Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville. She was a homemaker and a member of Reservoir Hill Pentecostal Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Della Campbell and Sara Guinn; and four brothers, Tommy Level, Sherman Level, Larry Level and Gene Level.

Graveside services: 10 a.m. Friday at Rose Hill cemetery in Central City. Burial: Rose Hill cemetery in Central City. Visitation: After 8 a.m. Friday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City.
