John Lee Rowland

FOREST, Va. - John Lee Rowland, 82, of Forest died Tuesday, June 8, 2004, in Lynchburg (Va.) General Hospital. He was the husband of Bobbie Seay Rowland for 54 years. Born in Maceo on Nov. 3, 1921, he was a son of the late DeWitt and Hazel Hunt Rowland. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II, was retired from the Carnation Co., a graduate of the University of Kentucky in 1947 with a bachelor of science in agriculture and was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Forest.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Judy Cuyler of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Diana Spence and husband Steven of Cliffside, N.C., and Stephen Rowland and wife Lois of Midlothian; two brothers, A.W. Rowland of Greenville and Russell Rowland of Owensboro; three sisters, Rachel Wallace of Lexington, Judith Alvis of Bradenton, Fla., and Martha Rowland of Owensboro; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, John Allen Rowland.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 11, at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church by the Rev. W. Ramsey Richardson, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 1695 Perrowville Road, Forest, VA 24551. Condolences may be sent to https://www.heritagefuneralandcremation.com. Samuel Earl 'Sammy' Hall

Samuel Earl "Sammy" Hall, 44, of Owensboro died Friday, June 4, 2004, at his residence. He was born Jan. 23, 1960, to the late Bobby Eugene Hall and Addie Cheek Hall, who survives. He was an employee of Moonlite Bar-B-Q Inn and enjoyed collecting model cars, was an avid fisherman and a NASCAR and sports fan.

Survivors in addition to his mother, Addie Cheek Hall, include two sisters, Janet Horn of Owensboro and Betty Lindsey of Owensboro.

Services are at 4 p.m. on Monday, June 7, 2004, at James H. Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Visitation is from noon until 4 p.m. Monday at James H. Davis Funeral Home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Samuel Hall Memorial Fund, c/o Addie Hall, 316 Hale Ave., Apt. 24 A, Owensboro, KY 42301.

Lear Brooks

Lear Brooks, 64, of 316 Hale Ave., Owensboro died Friday, June 4, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Temple in Evansville.

Survivors include a daughter, Helen Hanley; and a sister, Sharon Hoffenburger.

Services and visitation are private. James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro is in charge of arrangements.

Eric Lance Vanover

BREMEN - Eric Lance Vanover, 19, of 535 Black Lake Road, Bremen, died at 8:35 p.m., Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. He was born Sept. 30, 1984, in Hopkins County. He was a member of the National Guard 130th Engineer Company in Madisonville.

Survivors include his parents, Jeff and Lisa Vanover of Bremen; a sister, Larissa Vanover of Bremen; his paternal grandmother, Linda Neal of Bremen; his maternal grandmother, Betty Baker of Owensboro; his maternal grandfather, Claude Baker of Bremen; and his great-grandmother, Beulah McClain of Owensboro.

Services are at 11 a.m. Friday, June 4, at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with the Rev. Bobby Brown officiating. Burial will be in Gish cemetery in Bremen with graveside military honors. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today, June 3, at the funeral home.

Loretta Anderson

CENTRAL CITY - Loretta Anderson, 84, of 505 Rose Hill Drive in Central City, went home to be with the Lord on May 12, 2004. She was born in Butler County on March 31, 1920, to Alex and Becky Kassinger Evans. She attended the McHenry Church of God of Prophecy faithfully until her illness. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 47 years, Walter Anderson; a granddaughter, Laura Sue James; a grandson, Henry Alan Anderson; a daughter-in-law, Claudette Anderson (wife of Henry Anderson); her mother and father, Becky and Alex Evans; and two sisters, Edith Evans and Helen Culbertson.

She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Walter "Bubby" and Alice Faye Anderson, Bobby and Marilyn Anderson, Jimmy "Pete" and Donna Anderson and Henry Anderson; a daughter and son-in-law, Becky Sue and Bishop Earl "Sonny" James; 10 grandchildren, Bud and wife Gloria Anderson, Donna and husband Bruce Goodman, Dana and husband Michael Estep, Chris and wife Rita Anderson, Melissa and husband Norman, David Anderson, Jimmy Anderson, Jesse Anderson, Richard Anderson and Christy Anderson; seven great-grandchildren, Spencer and Ciara Anderson, Jacob Goodman, Krista and Adam Estep and Preston and Bethanie House; a sister, Edeth Evans; and a lot of friends.

A celebration of the life of Mrs. Anderson (better known as Nannie) will be held at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City on Saturday at 1 p.m. Friends may call after 5 p.m. today and after 8 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Rose Hill cemetery in Central City.

Paskel Louis Jewell

CENTRAL CITY - Paskel Louis Jewell, 76, of Central City died Wednesday, May 12, 2004, in Central City. He was born in Muhlenberg County on Feb. 25, 1928. He worked as a welder for UTLX in Whiting, Ind., for 25 years. He was a pipefitter in the U.S. Navy for four years. He was of the Baptist faith and was a Kentucky Colonel. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bobby and Hilda Jewell; a son, Donald E. Jewell; four brothers, Harlan, Robert L., Edgar and Newman Jewell.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Robertson Jewell of Central City; a son, Robert W. Jewell of Central City; four granddaughters, Donelle, Heidi, Lori and Dawn, all of Georgia; four grandsons, Wayne, Carl and Jerry of Whiting, Ind., and Jim of Demonte, Ind.; great-grandchildren, Cody, Devon, Camden, Brandon, Daniel, Stephanie, Corrisa, Chasity, Jenifer and Katelyn; two brothers, Raymond Jewell of Central City and Charles Jewell of Smith Mills; and two sisters, Dorothy Jewell Garrett of Central City and Jean Pearson of Jeffersonville, Ind.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with burial in Mount Zion cemetery in Central City. Visitation will be today after 5 p.m. and after 8 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

David Allen Jolly

McQUADY - David Allen Jolly, 56, of McQuady died Saturday, March 30, 2002, at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital. The Breckinridge County native was a farmer and member of Corinth Baptist Church.

Survivors include several nephews and nieces; and several cousins.

Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg. Burial will be in McQuady cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to American Cancer Society.

Kathryn Brame

HOPKINSVILLE - Kathryn Brame, 87, of Hopkinsville, formerly of Owensboro, died Saturday, March 23, 2002, at Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville. The LaFayette native had worked as an office manager for a group of companies. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Owensboro, Owensboro-Daviess County Humane Society and the Outdoor Advertising Association, for which she served as secretary.

Survivors include a nephew; a niece; and three great-nieces.

Graveside services are at 1 p.m. today at Powell cemetery in LaFayette. Goodwin Funeral Home in Cadiz is in charge of arrangements. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Pennyroyal Hospice, 1821 E. Ninth St., Hopkinsville, KY 42240.

Pauline Haaff

GRANDVIEW, Ind. - Pauline "Polly" Ednew Haaff, 87, of Grandview died Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Chrisney, Ind., native was a grocery store clerk for 50 years at C.V. Jones Food and Department Store in Chrisney. Her husband of 49 years, Gus Haaff, died in 1983.

Survivors include a son, Jim Haaff of Grandview; three stepgrandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.

Services are at 11 a.m. today at Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport, Ind. Burial will be in Little Pigeon cemetery in Chrisney. Visitation is after 8 a.m. today at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to American Legion Post 254 Baseball, c/o Owen Wells, 321 N. Sixth St., Rockport, IN 47635.

Mary R. Campbell

Mary R. Campbell, 87, of 2001 E. 19th St., Owensboro, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at her home. The Daviess County native retired from what is now Owensboro Mercy Health System after 25 years as a licensed practical nurse and was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. Her husband, Edgar Lee Campbell, died March 22, 2001.

Survivors include three sons, E.L. "Dick" Campbell of Fordsville, Don Campbell of Richland, Ind., and Jim Campbell of Newburgh, Ind.; three daughters, Judy Ford of Utica and Sharlene Campbell and Suzee Young, both of Owensboro; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchild.

Services are at 2 p.m. today at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Bells Run Baptist Church cemetery in Ohio County. Visitation is after 11 a.m. today at the funeral home.

William C. Myles Sr.
21 March 2002

William C. Myles Sr., 96, of 4214 Pendley Court, Owensboro, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at Hillcrest Nursing Home. The Daviess County native was a retired home builder and contractor and a member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge 130 F&AM. He had been a soloist at the former Third Street Methodist Church and St. John United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Frances Klein Myles; two sons, William C. Myles Jr. of Campbellsville and Dalton Kenneth Myles of Carmel, Ind.; a daughter, Mary Kathryn Thompson of Owensboro; a stepson, Michael Klein of Lexington; a stepdaughter, Nancy Klein Veal of Louisville; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Services are at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Settle Memorial United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.

Ollie Louise Cobb Kempton
28 March 2002

Ollie Louise Cobb Kempton, 89, of Owensboro died Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at her home. The Fordsville native was a retired teacher and taught at Oaks, Fordsville school, Hot Springs, Ark., and Owensboro Public Schools' Lincoln, Goodloe and Seven Hills elementary schools. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Owensboro, graduated from Bethel Women's College and Western Kentucky University and was a Kentucky Colonel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland G. Kempton.

Survivors include several cousins.

Services are at 1 p.m. Friday at Geary Funeral Home in Fordsville. Burial will be in Fordsville cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
