William 'Spanky' Wimbley
06/11/04

William "Spanky" Wimbley, 66, of Owensboro died Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at Bon Harbor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born Oct. 22, 1937, to the late Sedia Howard and Samuel H. Wimbley in Owensboro.

Spanky attended Western High School. He joined the Navy in 1955 and attended flight school in Norman, Okla. In 1964, he united in marriage with his late wife, Evie L. Wimbley. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Shake, as he was also known, worked for the Owensboro Sanitation Department until his retirement in October 1997.

He leaves to mourn his passing three sisters, Barbara Spearman of Louisville, Patsy (and Henry) Gordon and Sandy (and Mike) Cooper of Cincinnati; a brother, Larry Washington of Cincinnati; an aunt, Alice Muffins of Evanston, Ill.; an uncle, Tommy (and Jewell) Howard of Owensboro; and a host of nieces and nephews. Also mourning his loss are five very special and dear friends, Monroe Griffith, Lisa Hall, Marty Jackson, Delbert Hatchett and Lynn Buckner, all of Owensboro.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 12, at Glenn Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Saturday.

Patricia Pike

GREENVILLE - Patricia Pike, 74, of Greenville died Friday, June 11, 2004, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Central City.

Survivors include two sisters, Carol Theodosis and Diane Gunn.

Graveside services: 1 p.m. Tuesday at Rose Hill cemetery in Central City. Visitation: From 2 to 9 p.m. Monday at Richardson Chapel General Baptist Church. Bibbs Funeral Home in Greenville is in charge of arrangements.

Martin Buel Lee

GREENVILLE - Martin Buel Lee, 72, of Greenville died there Thursday, June 10, 2004, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital. He was a retired painter.

Survivors include his wife, Anna Lee; three sons, Terry Lee, DeWayne Lee and Johnathon Lee; a daughter, Sheila Gish; two stepsons, Donald Adler and Ronnie Adler; one stepdaughter, Doris Adler; two brothers, Paschal Lee and Drexel Lee; and two sisters, Doris Dukes and Sybal Broderick.

Services: 2 p.m. today at Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial: Powderly Memorial Garden cemetery.

William David Shively Jr.

William David Shively Jr., 69, of 3519 St. Ann St., Owensboro, died Sunday, June 6, 2004, in Owensboro. He was born in Owensboro on Sept. 14, 1935, to the late William David and Frances (Hester) Shively. He was employed at Coca-Cola Bottling Co. for 49 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and loved to fish.

Survivors include three sons, David W. Shively of Owensboro, Larry D. Shively of Philpot and Tim A. Shively of Smyrna, Tenn.; and seven grandchildren.

Services are at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Owensboro. Entombment will be in Resurrection cemetery Mausoleum in Owensboro. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at James H. Davis Funeral Home, where prayers will be said at 5 p.m. today.

Norene Lovell Scott

CENTRAL CITY - Norene Lovell Scott, 78, of 504 Center St., Central City, died at 3 p.m., Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at her residence. She was born in McLean County on April 9, 1926, and was a member of Island Methodist Church. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Scott, in 1993.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, James Richey and Carole Scott of Nampa, Idaho, Mack Allen and Debbie Scott of Sacramento and John Ellis and Suzanne Scott of Hanson; four daughters and sons-in-law, Alana Sue Sanders of Bremen, Jacqueline Ann and Mac Mata of Killeen, Texas, Virginia Lovell Scott and Jeff Geary of Central City and Melissa Scott Epley and Jimmy Epley of South Carrollton; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Services are at 2 p.m. Friday, June 11, at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Arnold Harper officiating. Burial will be in Island Methodist cemetery. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today, June 10, at the funeral home.

Ruby Maedell Hurt Strayn

DUNMOR - Ruby Maedell Hurt Strayn, 81, of Dunmor died Friday, May 21, 2004, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital. She had worked as a housekeeper at schools and was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Clifty.

Survivors include her husband, Lenard Strayn; three sons, Robert Strayn, Wayne Strayn and Daniel Strayn; two daughters, Brenda Lange and Jonell Strayn; and a sister, Evelyn Biembick.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial: Cessna cemetery in Powderly. Visitation: From 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Jack D. Allison

Jack D. Allison, 88, of 313 E. 21st St., Owensboro, died Monday, May 24, 2004, at Bon Harbor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Owensboro. He was born on Dec. 31, 1915, in Daviess County to the late Elmo W. and Alma Pearl (Evans) Allison. He retired from Western Kentucky Gas Co. He was a member and deacon at First Baptist Church. He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion Louisville Post. He was a board member of the Kentucky Golf Association. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances F. Allison, on Jan. 15, 1991; and by a brother, James E. Allison, in 1983.

Survivors include a son, James S. Allison of Owensboro; three grandchildren, Tom Allison of Germantown, Md., Peter Allison of Bel Air, Md., and Sarah Housman of Paducah; and five great-grandchildren, Abbie, Sofie, Ben, Allie and Max.

Services are at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 27, at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, Sanders-Brown Center on Aging, 800 South Limestone, Lexington, KY 40536-0230 or Gideons International, P.O. Box 1133, Owensboro, KY 42302-1133.

Mary St. Clair

Mary St. Clair, 69, of 5276 Ashland Ave., Owensboro died Saturday, May 22, 2004, at her home in Owensboro. Mary Margaret Parks was born July 25, 1934, in Owensboro to the late Robert and Lily Parks. She was a diamond sales representative for Rogers Jewelers in Owensboro and was a member of the No Creek United Methodist Church in Ohio County. Mary especially enjoyed fishing and traveling. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Perry, who died in 1999.

Survivors include her husband, Edgar St. Clair; five children, Sue Haimes of Owensboro, Mike Abney of Rumsey, Jeff Abney of Campbellsville, Barry Abney of Owensboro and Tim Abney of Calhoun; four stepchildren, Teresa Parker of Island, Patricia Bowlds and Deresa Douglas of Livermore and Eddie St. Clair of Las Vegas; nine grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; two sisters, Nancy Townsend of Tulsa, Okla., and Bonnie Rawls of Hereford, Ariz.; and four brothers, Bobby Parks of Owensboro, Bill Parks of Beebe, Ark., David Parks of Owensboro and Ken Parks of Georgia.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Muster Funeral Homes, Livermore Chapel with the Rev. Tony St. Clair officiating. Burial will be in the Green River Memorial Gardens in Livermore. Friends may visit with the St. Clair family from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until time of services Tuesday at Musters in Livermore.

Linda Faye Thomas Clark

Linda Faye Thomas Clark, 55, of Owensboro died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at her home. She had worked at Owensboro Medical Health System for 27 years.

Survivors include her husband of 31 years, Danny E. Clark; two daughters, Tammy Elaine Clark and Jami Michelle Clark; her mother, Alice C. Thomas; a brother, Cliff Thomas; and two sisters, Dianna Jones and Judy Thomas.

Services: 6 p.m. Friday at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Visitation: From 3 to 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions: Linda Clark Memorial Fund, c/o Alice Thomas, Apt. 3309, 2701 Frederica St., Owensboro, KY 42301.

Helen M. (Sigler) Warren
05/27/04

NEWBURGH, Ind. - Helen Warren, 88, of Newburgh passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at Woodmont Health Campus. She was the daughter of Earl and Gertrude (Alvey) Sigler of Elbe. She graduated from West Louisville Kentucky High School. She moved in 1938 to Evansville with her husband, Orval, and young son. Helen was a woman of many talents. She was an excellent seamstress, making many of her family's clothes. She enjoyed crocheting and making afghans for friends and family. She made several, which she donated to church for its annual auction. She was employed at Shane Manufacturing during the early 1940s. Helen is predeceased by her husband and daughter, Mary Jeneane (Warren) Garvin, who was killed in an auto accident in February 1976.

She is survived by a son, Joseph Warren and his wife, Constance, with whom she had lived before moving to Woodmont. She is also survived by six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; Patsy Love, a niece from St. Joseph; and several other nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday, May 28, at Titzer Family Funeral Home, Simpson Chapel, 510 W. Jennings St., Newburgh, Ind., (812) 853-8314, and continuing with a Mass at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 625 Frame Road, Newburgh, officiated by Father Joseph Ziliak. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery. Visitation will be today, May 27, from 4 to 8 p.m., with a memorial service at 7 p.m., and beginning at 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Louise Murphy

Louise Murphy, 82, of 1901 Sunset Drive, Owensboro died Sunday, May 23, 2004. She was a homemaker and a charter member of Lewis Lane Baptist Church. She enjoyed flower gardening and working jigsaw puzzles. She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Earl Murphy on Sept. 14, 2002; and a great-granddaughter, Ashley Lynn Brown on July 10, 1998.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James and Connie Murphy of Owensboro; grandchildren, Peggy Brown and husband Mike of Owensboro, James Murphy Jr. and wife Eva of Orlando, Fla., and Jeffery Puckett and wife Angie of Owensboro; and four great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may gather at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Christ Chapel, Owensboro Memorial Gardens, where funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Lewis Lane Baptist Church.
