Dr. Wendell H. Rone, Sr 89, of Livermore, Kentucky. Died Tuesday July 29, 2003 at the Owensboro Mercy Health Systems. He was born August 17, 1913 in Butler County to the late Jacob and Isa Carey Taylor Rone and was reared in Livermore. Wendell Holmes Rone, Sr was married to the former Beulah Lee Kirtley June 30, 1934 in Evansville by his late uncle, Dr. Pryce E. Gatlin. He was a member of and clerk of Company K, National Guard. Wendell Rone graduated from Livermore High School, and holds bachelors and masters degrees from Murray State University, the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and the Doctor of Divinity Degree from the Mid Continent College where he served as President from 1978 – 1980. Mid Continent College recently named the Church History Chair in Honor of Dr. Rone and his years of committed service. His 67 years as a Baptist Minister to advance the cause of Jesus Christ included pastoring Hopewell, Macedonia, Curdsville, Pleasant Grove, Utica, Seven Hills and Bellevue Churches all in Daviess County; Memorial Baptist in Murray; First Baptist in Middlesboro; First Baptist in Newport; and East Baptist in Paducah. He is a member of the Livermore Missionary Baptist Church, a member of the Robert Moseley Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, a member of the West Central Kentucky Family Research Association, and a member of the Society of Kentucky Pioneers. He was also a member of the Old Hebron-Hunt Family, a member of the McLean County Historical – Genealogy Society, and a member of the Kentucky and Southern Baptist Historical Societies. He is also a Past President of the Daviess County Historical Society. Dr. Rone served as Moderator and Clerk of the Daviess – McLean and Bell County Baptist Associations; served as Moderator of the Kentucky Baptist Pastors Group, and has served in several capacities in the Kentucky and Southern Baptist Historical and Conventions. With the pen of a ready writer, he authored some 27 Kentucky Baptist Church histories, taught genealogy class es in several counties, and authored numerous church – related books and pamphlets. His genealogy work of “Kentucky And Her Counties” is now in its 7th printing. Dr. Rone, the 27th minister from the maternal side of his family, served God, home, and country in various areas of life as a minister, teacher, genealogist, counselor, and friend. In spite of his too numerous to mention accolades and accomplishments in his nearly 90 years, he still contended that he was “Just A Sinner Saved By Grace.” The song has ended but the melody lingers on and on . . .

Survivors include his wife of 69 Years, Beulah. Three children and their spouses; Wendell H. & Gail Rone, Jr of Lake Quivira, Kansas, Ila Faye Rone & Bob Miller of Las Vegas, Nevada and Kyle Yates & Metta Rone of Nassau Bay, Texas. A sister Edith L. Bennett of Owensboro. 8 grandchildren. 14 great grandchildren. And a great great granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. CDT Saturday, August 2, 2003 at the Livermore Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. LaVerne Butler and the Rev. Gary Shockley officiating. Private burial will be in the Oak Hill cemetery in Livermore. Friends may visit with the Rone Family from 2:00 P.M. until time of services Saturday at the church. Muster Funeral Homes, Livermore Chapel is handling the funeral arrangements. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Mid Continent College Church History Chair; 99 East Powell Road; Mayfield, Kentucky 42066 or Camp Schafer; C/O Daviess – McLean Baptist Association; 1003 Scherm Road; Owensboro, Kentucky 42301. Anna Pearl Shultz

Anna Pearl Shultz 90, of Livermore, Kentucky. Died Saturday July 26, 2003 at her home. Anna Pearl was born March 4, 1913 in McLean County to the late Will & Edna King Ridenour and married Joseph John Shultz on February 14, 1931 in Livermore. She was an active lifelong member and Sunday School Teacher of the Livermore General Baptist Church. Mrs. Shultz was a respected member of her community, where she had served as President of the Livermore P.T.A. for several years and was also active in the American Red Cross Blood Drives. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Elaine, and a daughter JoAnna Cook died July 1, 2000.

Survivors include her husband of 72 years, Joe. Five children and their spouses Jerry & Doris Shultz of Centertown, Linda & Leo Evans of Livermore, Brenda & Rob Dickey of Providence, Utah, David & Amy Shultz of Centertown, and Patricia & Andy Martinez of Livermore. A son-in-law Bradley Cook of Fairacres, New Mexico. 23 grandchildren. 32 great grandchildren. 3 great great grandchildren. A sister Ruth Atherton of Gilbertsville. Several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday at Muster Funeral Homes, Livermore Chapel with the Rev. Roy Day and Rev. Glenn Archer officiating. Burial will be in the St. Charles cemetery in Livermore with her grandchildren serving as pallbearers. Friends may visit with the Shultz Family from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Monday and from 9:00 A.M. until time of services Tuesday at Musters in Livermore. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Livermore General Baptist Church, Building Fund; C/O Joyce Riley; P.O. Orton Ray Simmons 54, of Livermore, Kentucky. Died Monday July 21, 2003 at the Owensboro Mercy Health Systems. Orton Ray Simmons was born September 27, 1948 in Livermore, Kentucky to the late Jodie & Louise Simmons. He was a 1966 Graduate of Livermore High School, and attended the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. Orton Ray was employed as a correctional officer at the Green River Correctional Complex in Central City, and was a former member of the Kentucky National Guard. He enjoyed spending time with his family, riding horses, and hunting.

Survivors include his wife Robin Curry Simmons. A daughter Bridget Simmons of Livermore. A half sister Mildred Ray Simmons of Owensboro. And several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services will held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at Muster Funeral Homes, Livermore Chapel with the Rev. Clifford Sparks officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill cemetery in McLean County. Friends may visit with the Simmons Family from 3:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday and from 8:00 A.M. until time of services Thursday at Musters in Livermore. Linda Carol Hayden Dant 57, of Calhoun, Kentucky. Died Friday August 1, 2003 at her home in Calhoun. Linda Carol was born July 4, 1946 in Daviess County to Charles E. & Mary Elma Hayden. She worked at the former Charles Chip Factory in Calhoun and attended the Calhoun Baptist Church. She enjoyed collecting frogs, touring Calhoun on her wheelchair, and socializing at the Light House Restaurant in Calhoun. She was preceded in death by two sons Jerry Wayne Dant and Timothy Allen Dant; and also by her mother, Mary Elma Hayden.

Survivors include a son and his wife David E. & Janet Dant of Calhoun. A daughter and her husband Joyce & Chris Hardin of Calhoun. Two grandchildren Christa Hardin and Joseph Hardin both of Calhoun. Her father Charles E. Hayden of Calhoun. A brother and his wife Charlie L. & Victoria Hayden of Calhoun. And a sister Shirley Donahoo of Owensboro.

Funeral services will held at 2:30 P.M. Sunday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel with Dr. Richard Sams officiating. Burial will be in the Calhoun cemetery. Friends may visit with the Dant Family from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Saturday and from 9:00 A.M. until time of services Sunday at Musters in Calhoun. David H. Johnson 66, of Buttonsberry, Kentucky. Died Sunday August 3, 2003 at his home. David Hamilton Johnson was born November 19, 1936 in McLean County to the Late Hamilton and Goldie Smith Johnson and was married to the former Louise Morris on November 17, 1958 in Island. He had retired after 31 years of service from the finishing department of the Wonderest Chair Factory in Livermore and was a member of the Christ Gospel Church in Livermore. David loved watching wildlife – especially birds, and camping. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathrine Louise Johnson died February 7, 1959; and a son, David Wayne Johnson died May 25, 1970.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Louise. Two sons and a daughter-in-law Gary & Scarlet Johnson of Livermore, and Tim Johnson of Island. Five grandchildren Candice Johnson, Christin Johnson both of Livermore, Elisabeth Johnson of Nortonville, Misty Peay of Philpot, and Brian Howard of Utica. 3 great grandchildren. Four brothers Charles “Pee Wee” Johnson, Tommy Johnson both of Buttonsberry, Roy Johnson of Livermore, and Richard Johnson of Moorman. A sister Myrtle Douglas of Buttonsberry. His faithful companion & family pet, Peebles Johnson.

Funeral services will held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at Muster Funeral Homes, Livermore Chapel with Rev. Ronald Dame and Rev. Steve Case officiating. Burial will be in the Island Community cemetery. Friends may visit with the Johnson Family from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday and from 9:00 A.M. until time of services Wednesday at Musters in Livermore. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Island Community cemetery Fund; C/O J.D. Hardison; P.O. Box 162; Island, Kentucky 42350. Fred G. Cheatham

Fred G. Cheatham 67, of Beech Grove, Kentucky. Died Sunday July 20, 2003 at the V.A. Medical Center in Memphis, Tennessee. Fred was born November 12, 1935 in Comer, Kentucky to the late Raymond & Opal Hinton Cheatham, and was a 1953 Graduate of Calhoun High School. He was a retired Master Chief from the U.S. Navy as a Nuclear Machinist, and having served during both Korean and Vietnam Wars.

Survivors include a son Allen Cheatham of Madisonville. A daughter Tina Sandefur of Owensboro. 4 grandchildren. And three brothers Charles R. Cheatham, James G. Cheatham, and Steve Cheatham all of Beech Grove.

Funeral services will held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Phillips officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the McLean County Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #5415. Friends may visit with the Cheatham Family from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday and from 8:00 A.M. until time of services Wednesday at Musters in Calhoun. Willie Douglas, Sr 68, of 5270 Kentucky 54; Owensboro, Kentucky; formerly of Livermore. Died Wednesday August 6, 2003 at the Owensboro Mercy Health Systems. Willie was born February 19, 1935 in Utica to the late Aubrey & Lorene Davis Douglas and married the former Joyce Marie Keller on January 27, 1953 in Owensboro. He had retired from the Whitehall Furniture Company in Owensboro and was a member of the Deliverance Christian Center. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. Willie was preceded in death by three daughters Connie Louise Douglas, Barbara Ann Douglas, and Katherine Gail Douglas; and by a great granddaughter Rebekah Rose Mary Thibodeaux.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Joyce. A son and his wife Willie & Dena Douglas of Island. Four grandchildren Christina Douglas Doepp of Livermore of Livermore, Amy Douglas of Farmersville, Texas, Jonathon Douglas of Lake Charles, Louisiana, and Ada Douglas of Island. Four great grandchildren Nicholas Doepp, David Allen Jeaux Thibodeaux, Mercedes Krystina Pearl Thibodeaux, and Marquis Joseph Wade Thibodeaux. And three sisters Nettie Cook of Owensboro, Betty Hardison of Beaver Dam, and Lois Jean Johnson of Island.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at Muster Funeral Homes, Livermore Chapel with Rev. Mike Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Island Baptist cemetery. Friends may visit with the Douglas Family from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Friday and from 8:00 A.M. until time of services Saturday at Musters in Livermore. Elsie T. Swentner 87, of Livermore, Kentucky. Died Monday January 27, 2003 at her home in Livermore. She was born in Livermore and had retired from the United States Post Office in Livermore. She was a member of the Livermore United Methodist Church and a 1932 Graduate of Livermore High School. Her husband of 57 years, Herman Swentner died May 12, 1995.

Survivors include three nieces Brenda T. Christian of Owensboro, Mary Joellen Lowery of Livermore, and Mary Bess Stroock of Cortlandt Manor, New York. 12 great nieces and nephews. 4 great great nieces and nephews. And several cousins.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Oak Hill cemetery in Livermore. Muster Funeral Homes, Livermore Chapel is in charge of the funeral arrangements. Visitation with the family will be from 3:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. Wednesday at Mrs. Swentner’s home in Livermore. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Methodist Children’s Home; P.O. Arnold Eugene Daugherty 60, of Aurora, Illinois; formerly of McLean County, Kentucky. Died Tuesday April 1, 2003 at the Edward Hines, Jr Veterans Administration Hospital in Hines, Illinois. He was born in Owensboro, was a self employed brick layer, and a member of the Baptist Faith. He was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, having served two tours of duty and was a recipient of a Purple Heart. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Aurora.

Survivors include his companion Dorothy Yeager. Two daughters Julie Ann of California, and Lisa of Illinois. His step mother Anna Daugherty of Island. Three brothers Robert Daugherty, Harold Daugherty both of Madisonville, and Arthur Daugherty of Calhoun. And three sisters Linda Dearduiff of Morocco, Indiana, Zetta Bottom of Beech Grove, and Martha Daugherty of Island.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday at the Bethel Baptist cemetery in Beech Grove with Military Honors conducted by the McLean County Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #5415. Visitation is from 11:00 A.M. until 1:30 P.M. Friday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel.

Ruth Humphrey Edds

Ruth Humphrey Edds 82, of Owensboro, Kentucky. Died Saturday June 14, 2003 at the Bon Harbor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Owensboro. She was born June 3, 1921 in Livermore to the late Albert & Fara Howard Humphrey. The former Ruth Ellen Humphrey married Hubert D. Edds May 1, 1943 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. She later retired from the former Citizens Deposit Bank in Calhoun, was a member of the Crosspointe Baptist Church in Owensboro, and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Her husband, Hubert died May 28, 1974. Ruth was also preceded in death by a sister, Linda Turner.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands Beverly & Richard Howard of Owensboro, and Cheryl & Vic Grantham of Conyers, Georgia. Four grandchildren Debi Keller, Dean Howard both of Owensboro, Bryan Grantham, and Scott Grantham both of Conyers, Georgia. 4 great grandchildren. Two brothers Gary Humphrey of Panhandle, Texas, and Hubert Gene Humphrey of Brentwood, Tennessee. Two sisters Julia J. James of Belleville, Illinois, and Mildred Niceley of Adrian, Michigan. And several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the Calhoun cemetery with the Brother Farrell Isenberg officiating. There will be no visitation. Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel is in charge of the funeral arrangements. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Calhoun cemetery, Tornado Relief Fund; C/O Winfred Williams; P.O. Box 201; Calhoun, Kentucky 42327.
