Mildred Butler

Mildred Butler, 80, of 1651 W. Fourth St. Owensboro passed away Thursday, May 27, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born in Dyersburg, Tenn., to the late Sherman and Beulah Harrison Butler. She was a member of the Christian Outreach Church, was a homemaker and enjoyed working crossword puzzles and listening to gospel music.

Survivors include seven daughters, Betty J. Green of Owensboro, Sarah Nelson of Halls, Tenn., Irene Cox of Dyersburg, Tenn., and Ruthie Christian, Mary Ann Tyler, Christine Tyler and Carol Tyler, all of Houston; a brother, William Horn of Tampa, Fla.; and a sister, Louise Wilson of Orlando, Fla.; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Glenn Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Monday from 2 to 6 p.m. and after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

James Rex Purcell

Mr. James Rex Purcell, 94, of Owensboro died Thursday, May 27, 2004, at Leisure Years Nursing Home. He was born Sept. 22, 1909, to the late Allison and Ettie Amanda Baughn Purcell in Daviess County. He retired as an auto mechanic for Ideal Pure Milk Co. after 20 years, and also worked for the Owensboro Board of Education for 18 years. He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Emmett and Ernest Purcell; and three sisters, Irene Terry, Lena Cox and Lucille Cummings.

Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Agnes Oost Purcell of Owensboro; a son and his wife, Jerry and Sherry Purcell of Owensboro; a daughter and her husband, Kearron and Darryl Morris of Rockport, Ind.; three granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 29, at Glenn Funeral Home, with burial in Brushy Fork cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Florence R. Adcock

Florence R. Adcock, 86, of Roosevelt House I, 2920 Yale Place, Owensboro died Friday, May 28, 2004, at Leisure Years Nursing Home in Owensboro. She was born on May 31, 1917, in Daviess County to the late Jolly and Maggie (Arnold) Ray. She was a member of Parrish Avenue Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond H. Adcock on April 14, 1997.

Survivors include a son, Raymond Boyd Adcock of Beaver Dam; a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and James Sparks of Owensboro; six grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and a sister, Anna Richardson of Masonville.

Services are at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at James H. Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Burial is in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to service time on Tuesday at James H. Davis Funeral Home.

Joseph Harper

HARDINSBURG - Joseph Harper, 79, of Hardinsburg died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at Norton Hospital in Louisville. He retired as owner of the dental lab, attended Mount Zion Community Church and was a World War II Army veteran of 20 years.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jean Harper; six sons, Joseph Harper Jr., Charles Thomas Harper, Sonny Arvin, Ronald C. Harper, Richard Glenn Arvin and Allen Dale Harper; and a sister, Olivia Harper.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Zion Community Church in Westview. Burial: North Hardin Memorial Gardens in Radcliff. Visitation: From 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Oscar K. Benton
05/28/04

Oscar K. Benton, 84, of 1814 Brenda Court, Owensboro, died Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born on Feb. 4, 1920, in Pryse to the late Oscar and Mona (Brinegar) Benton. He was a self-employed oil man. He was a member of First Christian Church. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, the American Association of Petroleum Landmen and the AARP. He was a Kentucky Colonel.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Benton; a daughter, Monica Benton of Owensboro; a son, William Louis Benton of Lexington; and a brother, James William Benton of Pasadena, Fla.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 29, at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial is in Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro with military honors. Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

William Jerry Key

BEAVER DAM - William Jerry Key, 55, of Beaver Dam died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at his home. He was employed by the Kentucky Department of Transportation and was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Gwyn Travillian Key; his parents, William and Jonell Key; a son, Harold Travillian; a daughter, Kim Carter; a brother, Ronnie Key; and two sisters, Rosemary Davis and Julie Tyler.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Bevil Bros. Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Burial: Sunnyside cemetery in Beaver Dam. Visitation: From 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Milford Eugene 'Jack' Renfrow
05/27/04

Milford Eugene "Jack" Renfrow, 90, of Utica, formerly of Central City, died Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at his home. He was born on Oct. 6, 1913, to George W. and Beulah Mae Sapp Renfrow and was a member of First Baptist Church in Central City. Jack was an entrepreneur, building and operating several businesses, including the Kentucky Grill, Car-o-noda Motel and the Pizza Hut in Central City. He also built Drive-in Theaters throughout Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio, developed the Rose Hill subdivision in Central City and was in the oil drilling business. His last construction project was his current home in Utica, which he built at the age of 80. He was preceded in death by two sons, Jerald Lynn Renfrow and Truman Earl Renfrow.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy Crowe Renfrow; four sons, Wallace Renfrow of Fort Worth, Texas, Randall Renfrow of Owensboro, Milford Renfrow of Clarksville, Ind., and Glenn Renfrow of Greenville; a daughter, Vicki Coates of Bowling Green; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Earl Renfrow of Owensboro.

Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 29, at Glenn Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Lowery and the Rev. Carson Bevil officiating. Entombment will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to First Baptist Church, Central City, Building Fund or Hospice.

Rebecca Ann Duffey

HOUSTON - Rebecca Ann Duffey, 61, of Houston passed away Monday, May 24, 2004. She was born on Feb. 4, 1943, in Owensboro. She was preceded in death by her father, Dallas Ring; her mother, Mildred Pridgen; and her stepfather, Henry Pridgen.

Rebecca is survived by her husband of 31 years, Jack Duffey; a daughter, Meredith Duffey-Dixon and husband Jared of Brenham, Texas; her expected grandson, Jackson Thomas Duffey; a sister, Nancy Hooper, and her husband, Richard, of Houston; a nephew, Scott Hooper of Houston; an aunt and uncle, Edith Myles and her husband, Eugene, of Winchester; a cousin, Stephen Myles and his wife, Anne Schudy, of Carbondale, Colo.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. today, May 28, in the chapel of J.B. Earthman-Tanglewood Funeral Directors, 5740 San Felipe, in Houston with the Rev. Rick Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Park Lawndale cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to MDA/ALS Research at Baylor College of Medicine, MDA/ALS Clinical and Research Center, c/o IBC Bank, P.O. Box 272243, Houston, TX 77277-2243.

Albert Vincent

Albert Vincent, 83, of 1801 W. Third St., Owensboro, died at 2:10 p.m., Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at Bon Harbor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Owensboro. He was born in Muhlenberg County on July 28, 1920, and was of the Baptist faith. He was a self-employed concrete finisher.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Dorothy (Alexander) Vincent; two sons, Albert Junior Vincent and Robert Harold (Ruby) Vincent, all of Owensboro; two daughters, Joyce Jefford and Vondale (Johnny) Fielden, all of Owensboro; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Jean Croft of Evansville; and two brothers, Larry Wayne Vincent of Rockport, Ind., and James Thomas Vincent of St. Louis.

Services are at 11 a.m. Friday, May 28, at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Leroy Rearden officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount cemetery in Central City. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Leonard Thomas Williams
05/27/04

EVANSVILLE - Leonard Thomas Williams, 67, of Evansville died at 10 p.m., Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at his home. He was a member of the Henderson Christadelphian Ecclesia.

Survivors include three daughters, Elissa Early and Janetta Boarman, both of Owensboro, and Pamela Bean of Madisonville; a son, David Leonard Williams of Tell City, Ind.; his mother, Ruby E. Williams of Henderson; a brother, Richard O. Williams of Bowling Green; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home in Henderson. Terry Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Ridgewood cemetery in Spottsville. Friends may call after 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Henderson Christadelphian Ecclesia Bible School.

Freda Southard Pean

LEWISPORT - Freda Southard Pean, 82, of 410 Grace Court, Lewisport, passed away Thursday, May 27, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born May 2, 1922, in Ohio County. Ms. Pean retired from the U.S. government where she was employed in the office of the Social Security Administration, was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Winter Haven, Fla., and enjoyed collecting antiques.

Survivors include her ex-husband, Randall Pean of Lewisport; several cousins, including Jerry Northern of Tampa, Fla.; and two sisters-in-law, Ethel Pean and Geneva Pean Moore, both of Owensboro.

Graveside services will be Saturday, May 29, at 2 p.m. at Sunnyside cemetery in Beaver Dam, with burial immediately following. Visitation will be today, May 28, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro.
