LaNelda Smith Sherrod

CENTRAL CITY - LaNelda Smith Sherrod, 66, of Central City died Friday, June 18, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born Sept. 8, 1937, in Martwick to the late Charles Oliver Smith and the late Mary (Alexander) Smith Renfrow. She was retired from Stewart's IGA Foodliner in Central City and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Central City. She was preceded in death by her brother, Marion Oliver Smith; a sister, Joyce Marie (Smith) Fulkerson; and stepfather, Jack P. Renfrow.

LaNelda is survived by her husband of 49 years, Roy Sherrod Jr.; a son, Frank Sherrod of Central City; two daughters, Lana (Billy) Hoskins of Central City and Jackie (Todd) Ladd of Crofton; three grandchildren, Andrew Ladd, Jamie Hoskins and Katie Hoskins; one sister, Delores Smith (Hubert) Francis of Central City; a brother-in-law, Monty (Jeannie) Fulkerson of Louisville; nieces, Angela Francis Noffsinger and Cindy Francis (Bennie) Stollings of Central City; great-nieces, Kellie West (Jimi) Wilson of Lexington and Andrea Stollings of Central City.

LaNelda is lovingly and sadly missed by her family and friends.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Bob Lowery officiating with the Rev. W.R. Cook assisting. Burial will be in the Rose Hill cemetery in Central City. Visitation will be Sunday after 5 p.m. and Monday after 8 a.m. at the funeral home.

Willis T. Stinnett Sr.

Willis T. Stinnett Sr., 99, of Bon Harbor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center died there Wednesday, June 16, 2004. He was born March 8, 1905, in Breckinridge County, was self-employed and sold produce. He enjoyed coin collecting, hunting and playing cards. He was preceded in death by his parents, Preston and Mary Etta Stinnett.

Survivors include three sons, Willis T. Stinnett Jr. of Evansville, Larry W. Stinnett and his wife Lois, of Owensboro and Darrell T. Stinnett and his wife, Vicki, of Maceo; two daughters, Linda Saltsman and her husband, Jim, of Owensboro and Mary E. Stinnett of West Los Angeles, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Services are at 11 a.m. Friday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home chapel. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery.

Donald R. Hudspeth Sr.

HARTFORD - Donald R. Hudspeth Sr., 67, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at Ohio County Hospital. He was a member of Broadway General Baptist Church and retired from Young Manufacturing Co.

Survivors include his wife, Dean Hudspeth; four sons, Donald R. Hudspeth Jr., Bobby Hudspeth, James Kenneth and Terry Wayne Hudspeth; two daughters, Connie Lynn Stewart and Nancy Mae Hudspeth; a brother, Earl Hudspeth; and a sister, Mable Parker.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Duke-Bevil Bros. Funeral Home in Hartford. Burial: Union Church cemetery in Hardin County. Visitation: From 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Agnes Marie Thomas

Agnes Marie Thomas, 67, of 1613 East 21st St., Owensboro, died Thursday, June 17, 2004, at her home. Agnes was born in Owensboro on Sept. 12, 1936, to the late Simon and Lucy (Wink) Schell. She was a homemaker who loved to be with her children, grandchildren and friends. She was a member of Blessed Mother Catholic church and enjoyed attending Golden Romans Senior Citizens Club at St. Martin Catholic Church.

Agnes is survived by her husband of 45 years, William "Billy" Thomas; four children and spouses, Jeanette Estes and husband Billy, Mike Thomas and wife Karen, Dan Thomas and wife Sandra and Martha Gillim and husband Steve, all of Owensboro; grandchildren, Courtney and Brittany Estes, Cody and Brody Thomas, Aaron and Rachel Thomas, Emily, Jacob and Justin Gillim; her sister, Mildred Phillips of Flaherty; four brothers, Herman Joe Schell of Hanson and Robert Leo Schell, James "Jim" Schell and Eugene "Gene" Schell, all of Owensboro; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 19, at Blessed Mother Catholic Church. Visitation will be today from 3 to 8 p.m. and after 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home. Prayers will be held at 5:30 p.m. today. Burial will be in St. Anthony cemetery in Brown's Valley. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Blessed Mother Catholic Church, Hospice Association Inc.

Mary Pearl Blandford

Mary Pearl Blandford, 92, of Owensboro died Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at Bon Harbor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness. A resident of the Carmel Home since 1999, Mary Pearl was preceded in death by her first husband of 31 years, Joseph Guy Clark, in 1962; an infant son, Thomas Guy; her second husband of eight years, Joseph Bertrand Russell in 1974; and in 1990 by her third husband of 14 years, Joseph E. Blandford.

Mary Pearl was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph (Philomena, deceased) Elder, Edward (Lillian) Elder of Mount Carmel, Ill., and John (Mary Catherine) Elder of Owensboro; as well as by one sister, Henrietta Risley (Kenneth) Whitehouse of Florida. She is survived by three brothers and their wives, Walter (Susan) Elder, Richard (Bonnie) Elder and Clarence (Carmen) Elder; and one sister and her husband Ernestine (John F.) Jones, all of Owensboro.

Surviving from the first marriage are five sons and their wives, Joseph Henry (Irene) Clark of Sacramento, Calif., James Donald (Hallie Ann) Clark of Bardstown, Kenneth Anthony (Donna) Clark of Big Fork, Mont., Richard Leo (Joyce) Clark of Augusta, Ga., and Mark Earl (Thomasina) Clark of Louisville; and four daughters and their husbands, Mary Ruth (Martin L.) Bumm Sr. of Owensboro, Anna Joyce (Carroll) Ferguson of Owensboro, Mary Lois (Jack, deceased) Brackin of Owensboro and Betty Ann (Robert) Kooris of Cincinnati. The extended Clark family includes 29 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

The Russell union increased Mary Pearl's children by six stepsons and their wives, the now deceased Gerald (Liz) Russell of Texas, Donald (Norma) Russell of Louisville, James B. (Rita) Russell of Owensboro, Frank (Doreen) Russell of Owensboro, Joseph (Barbi) Russell of New York and Thomas (Betty, deceased) Russell of Lafayette, Ind., and one stepdaughter and her husband, Mary Jane (Joseph) Clark of Owensboro. The extended Russell family includes 20 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

The Blandford marriage expanded Mary Pearl's family with the addition of three stepsons and their wives, Donald (Jane) Blandford of Philpot, now deceased Gerald (Doris) Blandford of Owensboro and Thomas (Helen) Blandford of Shawnee, Kan., plus two stepdaughters and their husbands, Diane (Byron) Lane of Owensboro and Julia (Nick) Graziano of Englewood, N.J. The extended Blandford family includes seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 14, 2004, at Immaculate Catholic Church, with burial in Mater Dolorosa cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with prayers at 6 p.m. at Glenn Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to The Carmel Home, 2501 Old Hartford Road, Owensboro, KY 42303. Everyone who knew Pearl was touched by her kindness, uplifted by her laughter and enriched by her zest for life. She will truly be missed.

Carol William Dukes

GREENVILLE - Carol William Dukes, 76, of Greenville died Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. He retired from Peabody Coal Co. as a coal miner and was an Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Adelle Dukes; three sons, Harold Dukes, Royce Dukes and Chris Dukes; and a sister, Wanda Atterberry.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial: Cave Springs cemetery in Greenville. Visitation: After 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

William E. 'Bill' Nantz Jr.

William E. "Bill" Nantz Jr., 52, of 5956 Pleasant Valley Road, Philpot, died Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born on Dec. 6, 1951, in Owensboro to the late William E. and Anna Lee (Howard) Nantz. He was previously employed as a HVAC supervisor for Ernie Davis Plumbing. He was a member of Apollo Heights Baptist Church and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Judy Myers Nantz; a son, Daymon Nantz of Philpot; a daughter, Shellie Nantz of Owensboro; and two sisters, Joyce Heifner of Owensboro and Nancy Roberts of Pellville.

Services are at noon Thursday, June 10, at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Visitation is from 2 to 6 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Randall Lee Stinnett

Randall Lee Stinnett, 52, of 636 Chuck Gray Court, Owensboro, died Monday, June 7, 2004, at his residence. He was born in Ohio County, was in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He attended the Faith Apostolic Church in Elizabethtown and loved animals and hunting. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Kemerley, on June 19, 2003.

Mr. Stinnett is survived by his wife of 22 years, Sherry C. Stinnett of Elizabethtown; two sons, Jason Stinnett of Owensboro and Phillip Modgling of Austin; two daughters, Donna F. Beam of Virginia Beach, Va., and Hannah J. Stinnett of Elizabethtown; a brother, Dane Stinnett of Lake Station, Ind.; a sister, Joyce Bernard of Sarasota, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Jessika Rayne Stinnett of Orlando, Fla., and Jordyn Z. Stinnett of Elizabethtown.

Services are at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 10, at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Visitation will be at the funeral home Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. There will also be a service held in Elizabethtown on Sunday, June 13, at Faith Apostolic Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Randall Lee Stinnett Memorial Fund, c/o Jason Stinnett, 7220 Donald Ave., Owensboro, KY 42301.

William Augustus Thompson

William Augustus Thompson, 72, of 930 Carter Road, Owensboro, died Saturday, June 5, 2004, in Daviess County. He was born in Laurel, Md., on May 29, 1932, to Lawrence Thompson and Alice Clarke Thompson and retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years. He was also a chef for several years for attorney John Rogers' family. He was a member and deacon at the Church of the Living God Pillar and Ground of the Truth and American Legion Post No. 9. He enjoyed fishing and cooking. He was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta B. Thompson, who died June 23, 2003.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Louis A. and Jacqui Brown of Owensboro; two god daughters, Amber Taylor and Christeon Robinson, both of Owensboro; three grandchildren, Tia Renee' Brown, Tyler Anthony Brown and Terran Willis, all of Owensboro; a brother, Joseph L. Thompson of Laurel; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Church of the Living God P.G.T. Visitation is from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements. The family wishes that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Church of the Living God P.G.T., 2319 W. 10th St., Owensboro, KY 42301.

Ruby Jean Dooley

HARDINSBURG - Ruby Jean Dooley, 74, died Sunday, June 6, 2004, at Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield.

Survivors include a son, William Hankin; a brother, Charles Dooley; and two sisters, Bettye Daugherty and Lois Logsdon.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg. Burial: Ivy Hill cemetery. Visitation: From 2:30 to 8 p.m. today and after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions: Ruby Dooley Memorial Fund, c/o Trent-Dowell Funeral Home.
