Florence's Paul Howe, promoted malls

Paul Howe and his wife, Judy, went to hundreds of shopping malls all over the United States - not because they loved to shop, but because it was their business.

As owners of Marketeers Classic Mall Productions, they organized special events and shows - such as bridal and home and garden shows - to help promote business at malls.

"We met so many nice people," said Judy Fortney Howe. "We did shows all the way from Michigan to New York."

Mr. Howe died at 5 p.m. Monday at Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati.

The Florence resident was 62.

Mr. Howe was born in Dry Ridge, where he lived until he went into the Army in the early 1960s.

When he returned, he married in 1962 and moved to Florence in 1969. He got a job as an operations manager for a trucking company in Cincinnati, where he worked for about 15 years.

Through that company, Mr. Howe met an executive for the Seven-Up Co. who was looking for someone to take over and expand a small company specializing in mall promotions.

Mr. Howe got the job, and for the last 20 years has been organizing programs for malls in Greater Cincinnati and as far away as New York and Michigan.

The company organized as many as three or four shows a weekend, and Mr. Howe would travel to many of them.

"The malls were all different, the people were all wonderful to us, and they were really special events," Mrs. Howe said.

Mr. Howe also participated with the Dry Ridge Masonic Lodge No. 849 F&AM, the Indra Consistory Scottish Rite in Covington and the Syrian Shrine in Cincinnati.

He was a member of Florence Baptist Church.

"He was very kind, always had time for people," Mrs. Howe said. "He was very friendly, and everyone knew him. He was in a business he was meant to be in."

Other survivors include a sister, Ruth Urbanowicz of Cleveland; and brothers, Larry Howe of Dry Ridge and Harold Rohrs of Madison, N.J.
