Larry Cooper

Larry Cooper, 62, of 2429 Elder Drive, Owensboro died Friday, June 4, 2004, at his home. He was born August 28, 1941, in Detroit to Charles Wendell Cooper and Bessie Cauley Cooper and retired from NSA as a maintenance supervisor after 29 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and enjoyed NASCAR and watching University of Kentucky basketball.

Survivors include his wife, Anice Cooper; two sons, Larry C. Cooper of Owensboro and Brian K. Cooper of Owensboro; a granddaughter, Erica Taylor Cooper; his mother, Bessie L. Cooper of Owensboro; two brothers, David G. Cooper of Owensboro and Michael W. Cooper of Owensboro; and three sisters, Patty Pierce of Owensboro, Judy Murphy of Owensboro and Vicky Payne of Owensboro; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are at 3 p.m. Monday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lloyd Dunn officiating. Visitation is from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday and from noon to 3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

James O. 'Chick' Burden

CLOVERPORT - James O. "Chick" Burden, 90, of Cloverport died Friday, June 4, 2004, at his home. He retired from American Olean Tile Co. and was an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include two sons, James Burden Jr. and Paul K. Burden.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday at Wallace Funeral Home in Cloverport. Burial: Cloverport cemetery. Visitation: From 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday and after 8 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mary F. Sanders

CLOVERPORT - Mary F. Sanders, 78, of Cloverport died Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital. She was born in Breckinridge County on July 10, 1925, the daughter of the late Alfred Armstrong Miller and Myrtle Gabbert Miller. She was of the Pentecostal faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Amiel Sanders, on Feb. 7, 1995.

Survivors include two sons, Alfred Sanders of Ekron and Johnny Sanders of Irvington; four daughters, Dianne Board, Judy Corley and Doris Smith, all of Cloverport, and Donna Belcher of Owensboro; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 5, at Wallace Funeral Home in Cloverport with the Rev. Dale Miller officiating. Burial will be in Cloverport cemetery. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. today, June 4, and after 8 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Lorene Barrow

FAIRFIELD GLADE, Tenn. - Lorene Owens Barrow, 77, of Fairfield Glade passed away May 31, 2004, at her home. She was born on Dec. 6, 1926, in Owensboro, the daughter of Herbert Owens Sr. and Ollie Mae Downs Owens. Mrs. Barrow was an assembly technician for General Electric and charter member of the Fairfield Glade Baptist Church. She was an artist and enjoyed sewing. Mrs. Barrow was a wonderful mother who will be greatly missed by all.

Survivors include two daughters, Maria Wright of Owensboro and Pamela Thomas of Alaska; five sons, Allen Barrow of Owensboro, Raymond Barrow of Crossville, Tenn., Robert Barrow of Maryland, Rex Barrow of New Jersey and David Barrow of Durham, N.C.; 21 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Barrow; her parents, Herbert and Ollie Owens Sr.; two brothers, Russell Owens and Herbert Owens Jr.; and a sister, Thelma Vaden.

The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 5, at Fairfield Glade Baptist Church with the memorial service following at 1 p.m. Saturday and Brother Doug Turner officiating. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. The family requests that memorials be made to Fairfield Glade Baptist Church Building Fund or Hospice of Cumberland County. Bilbrey Funeral Home, Inc. in Crossville is in charge of arrangements.

Lillian Chappell Stiff

HARDINSBURG - Lillian Chappell Stiff, 90, of Hardinsburg died Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Hardinsburg United Methodist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Cecil Elroy Stiff, Ken Stiff and David Stiff; and two daughters, Gunyd Lyons and Betty S. Brooks.

Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, June 5, at Hardinsburg United Methodist Church. Burial: Cloverport cemetery. Visitation: From 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg. Memorial contributions: Hardinsburg United Methodist Church.

Carlos C.B. Knight

DRAKESBORO - Carlos C.B. Knight, 79, of 125 Goose Hollow Road, Drakesboro, died at 5:15 a.m., Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at Maple Manor Nursing Home in Greenville. He was born Aug. 31, 1924, in Muhlenberg County. He was a member of Browder General Baptist Church, was a retired miner and, at one time, owned and operated his own mine. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Jarvis Knight, in 1992.

Survivors include a son, Carlos R. "Dick" Knight of Owensboro; two granddaughters, Leigh Rahill and Sally and Gary Barber, all of Owensboro; two great-grandchildren, Rachel Rahill and Zoe Barker; and a special friend, Mildred Staples of Drakesboro.

Services are at 6 p.m. today, June 3, at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. T.H. Davis officiating. Interment will be private. Visitation is after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Charlesetta 'Chunk' Roby Howard

Charlesetta "Chunk" Roby Howard, 85, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Leisure Years Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. A lifelong native of Knottsville, Mrs. Howard was born Oct. 17, 1918, to the late Lawrence and Mary Elizabeth Aull Roby. She was a member of St. William Catholic Church and was retired from Knottsville Personal Care Home where she worked as an aide. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent Howard, in 1982; and two daughters, Dorothy Howard in 1982, and Georgia Lindsey in 1972.

She is survived by two sons, Charles J. "Charlie Joe" Howard of Knottsville and Thomas "Tommy" V. Howard of Owensboro; six daughters, Mary Ann Howard of Knottsville, Ruthie Payne, Nancy Greathouse, Freda Rhodes and LaDonna Shrewsberry, all of Owensboro, and Vicki Wright of Whitesville; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Friday at St. William Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at Glenn Funeral Home from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday and after 9 a.m. until noon Friday, where prayers will be said at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Bishop Soennecker Home, 9545, Highway 144, Philpot, KY 42366.

Nicholas Laurence Potts

Nicholas Laurence Potts, 70, of Owensboro died Monday, May 31, 2004, in Owensboro. He was born in Windsor, England, on Feb. 11, 1934, and spent his childhood in Redditch where his father was a general medical practitioner. He attended school at Bryanstone and studied woodwork at Birmingham Art College. An accomplished flautist, Mr. Potts played as first flute at the inauguration of the Birmingham Youth Orchestra and, after being conscripted into the Royal Air Force, joined the RAF Band, with whom he played in the coronation procession of Queen Elizabeth in 1953. On discharge from the RAF he attended the Royal Academy of Music in London where he studied under Gareth Morris. It was there that Nicholas met his future wife, Joy Hazelrigg, of Owensboro. They returned to the United States where they were married for 30 years. Joy taught music and Nicholas started a woodworking business, which he maintained until his demise. An avid bridge player, Mr. Potts was a life master and played in tournaments throughout the country as well as locally.

His wife, Joy, of Owensboro; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Gerald Potts, Richard and Jill Potts, Alan and Brenda Potts and David and Valerie Potts; cousins, Jane and Desmond Porter; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of England, survive him. His kind and cheerful demeanor will be missed by all his bridge friends and his housekeeper, Irene Nielan, his loyal friend to the end.

Memorial services will be private. Glenn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Randall Martin Farmer Sr.

REYNOLDS STATION - Randall Martin Farmer Sr., 63, of Reynolds Station went to be with the Lord Monday, May 31, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born Oct. 14, 1940, in Daviess County to Burtron and Emogene Farmer. He served in the U.S. Navy for 10 years, 13 months of which were spent in Vietnam. He was a member of Sugar Grove Bible Baptist Church in Fordsville and Disabled American Veterans. He worked at several occupations before establishing the Farmer & Son Construction Co. He left construction to enter the ministry full time as the pastor of Berean Missionary Baptist Church in Mortons Gap, and served there for nearly 15 years. He retired from the pastorate in 2004 due to health concerns. He was preceded in death by a son, Randall Martin Farmer Jr., on June 23, 1971, and his mother, Emogene Farmer, on May 31, 2002.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Carolyn Calloway Farmer; a son, Derek Farmer of Fordsville; two daughters, Elesei Edge of Santarem, Brazil, and Teresei Westerfield of Whitesville; grandchildren, Hannah Hyatt, Nathan, Bethany and Phillip Edge, John Hardin, Randall Martin III, Will, Tom and Caroline Farmer; a great-grandchild, Alyssa Hyatt; his father, Burtron Farmer of Whitesville; a brother, Robert Farmer; and six sisters, Judy Wilson, Elaine Calloway, Nancy Ammon, Sue Brown, Sherry Bridgemon and Pam Gilmore.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sugar Grove Bible Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Pastor Eddie Calloway will conduct the services. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Geary Funeral Home, Fordsville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Missions Program at Sugar Grove Bible Baptist Church.
