Sharon Tuttle Hermann
08/17/2004

Sharon Tuttle Hermann, 68, of Owensboro died Monday morning, Aug. 16, 2004, at Wellington Parc from complications of cancer and Alzheimer's. A graduate of Owensboro Catholic High School class of 1954, Mrs. Hermann went on to receive a bachelor of arts degree from University of Evansville and a masters from Western Kentucky University, all after the age of 50. Following her academic training, she accepted a position with WKU's department of English, where she taught for seven years.

Following the death of her husband, Jim, in 1986, Mrs. Hermann wrote a series of poetry and short stories to assist her and others through the grief process. Although writing and the English language were among the loves of her life, it was perhaps teaching that most defined Mrs. Hermann later in life. She had a passion for teaching others and felt it was her calling.

Before teaching, Mrs. Hermann's previous work experience included stints as a Realtor with Castlen Realty, communications specialist with Pinkerton Tobacco and reporter for Hartford Herald (Ohio County). She also co-owned the Ann Herbert dress shop in the 1970s with her late husband. In addition to her professional interests, she was an avid traveler and a voracious reader and also enjoyed classical music and theater.

In addition to her husband, Jim, she is preceded in death by her parents, Jessica Heppler Tuttle and Walker Tuttle, formerly of Owensboro; and a brother, Lynn Tuttle of Houston.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 9 a.m. Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home. Prayers will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Evansville Region, 4770 Covert Ave., Evansville, IN 47714.
