POWDERLY - Nell McElvain, 58, of Powderly died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, at her home. She had worked at Dame Enterprise and was a member of Mount Pisgah Church.

Survivors include her husband, Gerald McElvain; two daughters, Tammy Tabb and Denise Bean; a stepson, Allen McElvain; two brothers, Randall Taylor and Harold Taylor; and two sisters, Jean Davis and Helen Wyatt.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial: Memorial Gardens in Powderly. Visitation: After 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

CALHOUN - Samuel Anderson Cox, 42, of Calhoun died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, at his home. He was an emergency medical technician for the McLean County Ambulance Service and was a Navy veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Roberta Cox; a son, Samuel Cox II; two daughters, Rebecca Cox and Francis Alvarado; his parents, Jimmy and Bernice Cox; four brothers, Frank Owen, Jimmy Ray Cox II, Albert Cox and Michael Cox; and a sister, Tessie Cox Duran.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel. Burial: Calhoun cemetery with military honors conducted by McLean County Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 5415. Visitation: From 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday and after 8 a.m. Monday at Musters. Memorial contributions: Sam Cox, Memorial Fund, c/o Muster Funeral Homes, P.O. Box 160, Calhoun, KY 42327.

Bertha Frances Raley Clark

WAVERLY - Bertha Frances Raley Clark, 84, of Waverly died at 12:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, at Carmel Home in Owensboro. Mrs. Clark was born Sept. 23, 1919, to Joseph Legay and Mary Agnes (McGroaty) Raley near Waverly where she lived most of her life. She was a homemaker and worked many years as a bookkeeper for Ed O'Nan's Feed Store in Morganfield, which became a part of Agrico. After retirement from Agrico, she was employed at the Young & Conway Seed Co. Bertha was a very active member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Waverly. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Clark; three sisters, Gertrude, wife of Hugh Clark, Emma, widow of Fonce Clark and Louise, widow of both Victor Howard and Hugh Clark; and a brother, Joe Raley.

Survivors include a brother, William Raley of Whitesville; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Waverly with Father Ralph Patterson officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's cemetery in Waverly. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. today and until funeral time Monday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield. Prayers will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made in the form of Mass offerings or donations to the Greater Kentucky and Southern Indiana Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.

Claudius R. Casebier

GREENVILLE - Claudius R. Casebier, 87, formerly of Pleasant Hill Drive, Burgin, died Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center. Born in Muhlenberg County to the late R.A. and Cora Sumner Casebier, he was a retired senior systems supervisor for the Kentucky Utilities dispatch, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the Burgin Baptist Church where he was a former trustee and greeter and member of the young at heart class. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Dean Hays Casebier; and a son, Olson Casebier.

Survivors include one son, Bud (Judy) Casebier of Paris, Ky.; one daughter, Mary (Scott) Olson of Panama City, Fla.; two brothers, Clarence Casebier of Owensboro and Earl Casebier of Louisville; one sister, Mildred Wells of Greenville; four grandchildren, Krista Woodham, Meredith Olson, Lynn McKay and Lisa Casebier; and two great-grandchildren, Cali Woodham and Sophia McKay.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, at 1 p.m. from Gary's Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Baptist Church cemetery in Depoy. Friends may call after 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 20 at Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville. Memorial contributions can be made to the Burgin Baptist Church Building Fund, the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Depoy or to the Alzheimer's Association.

Evelyn Thompson Cabbage

HOUSTON - Evelyn Thompson Cabbage, 89, formerly of Owensboro, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, in Houston following a short illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Cabbage, in 1963. Following her husband's death, she returned to college, graduated, and taught school at Cravens Elementary until her retirement. After retirement she moved to Texas to be nearer her children. She was a member of the Methodist faith. Her hobbies included reading and growing flowers.

She is survived by her son, Jerry Cabbage and his wife, Kay, of Houston; daughters, Nodene Snyder and her husband, Larry, of Houston and Elizabeth Renz and her husband, Phil, of Rio Rancho, N.M. She is also survived by several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are pending. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Arthritis Association, 3701 Kirby Drive, Houston, TX 77070. Messages of condolence and cards may be sent c/o Nodene Snyder, 8219 Thetford Lane, Houston, TX 77070.

Mary Garner

HARDINSBURG - Mary Garner, 96, of Rockport, Ind., formerly of Breckenridge County, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, at Miller's Merry Manor in Rockport. Mary was born in Rosetta on June 11, 1908, to the late John Wesley and Catherine (Mercer) Carman. She married Paul J. Garner, and they had three children, Joe, Anna Catherine and Paul J. II, all of whom preceded her in death. Her first love was that of her family. She enjoyed reading, gardening, crocheting and making quilts by hand. She was also a caregiver for several individuals throughout her life.

Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Jewel Garner; six grandchildren, Mary Ellen Anderson, Bill and John Clark, Becky Link, Stephen Garner and Paul J. (Jay) Garner III; three great-grandchildren, Daniel Link, Blake and Jacob Clark; and a great-great-grandson, Julien Link.

Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg. Burial will be in Kingswood. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport and from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home.

Marion 'Dude' Boling

HARTFORD - Marion "Dude" Boling, 91, of Hartford died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, at the home of his daughter in Signal Mountain, Tenn. He was born in Hartford, was a member of Hartford Christian Church and was a member and past master of Hartford Masonic Lodge No. 675 F&AM. He was retired from the L&N Railroad, where he worked for 35 years as a welder.

Survivors include a daughter, Amy Zukowski of Signal Mountain; and a brother, J.T. Boling of Hartford.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Duke-Bevil Bros. Funeral Home in Hartford. Burial will follow in Oakwood cemetery in Hartford. Friends may visit from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Opal Dickson

BEAVER DAM - Opal Dickson, 90, of Beaver Dam died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was a homemaker and member of Rosine Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Morris Dickson; and a sister, Dorothy Grant.

Services: 1 p.m. Friday at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Burial: Rosine cemetery. Visitation: From 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mary Ann Evans

Mary Ann Evans, 67, of 637 Dalton St., died at 2 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, at her home from injuries suffered in an automobile accident on July 27. She was born Oct. 3, 1936, in Daviess County to Albert Feldpausch and Flora Howard and retired from Owensboro Catholic High School cafeteria. She was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church and enjoyed fishing, shopping and being with her family.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Claude Evans; a son, Michael Evans of Owensboro; two daughters, Sharon Brown and Susie Jacobs, both of Owensboro; six grandchildren, Brad Brown, Tiffany Brown, Dustin Brown, Kimberly Jacobs and Stephen Evans, all of Owensboro, and Renee Jones of Pikeville; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Jimmy Feldpausch of Owensboro; a sister, Marion Wright of Painesville, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are at 1 p.m. Friday at Precious Blood Catholic Church. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday at Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home. Prayers will be said at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mount Moriah cemetery in Ohio County. The Rev. Brad Whistle will officiate.

Joetta Jones Gates

GREENVILLE - Joetta Jones Gates, 69, of 601 Reynolds Drive, Greenville, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, at 10:36 p.m. in Muhlenberg Community Hospital after several months illness. She was born on Aug. 13, 1935, in Greenville, the daughter of Arthur Guy Jones and Flossie Shutt Jones. She was a member of the Cave Springs Baptist Church and was a homemaker.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday morning, Sept. 17, at 10 a.m. at Gary's Funeral Home by the Rev. Larry Shadowen. Burial will be in Cave Springs cemetery.

She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Vechel Lee Gates of Greenville; two sons, Harold (Penney) Gates of Beechmont and Charles Randall (Brenda) Stanley of Lincolnton, N.C.; two stepdaughters, Sandra Rolley and Phyllis Jones, both of Greenville; five grandchildren, Tayler Gates, Kilee Gates, Rebecca Stanley, Jennifer Pool and Timothy Stanley; two great-grandchildren, Brandon Cavanaugh and Justin Pool; 11 stepgrandchildren; a brother, Roy Gene (Dean) Jones of Greenville; and two sisters, Verlie Pendley and Muriel Jones, both of Greenville.

Friends may call today, Sept. 16, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Emogene Scott More

Emogene Scott More, 75, of 906 W. First St., Owensboro, died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born in Owensboro on March 19, 1929, to the late Nathan and Pearl (Self) Scott. She was a retired hair stylist and a member of Crosspointe Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. More, in 1964.

Survivors include a sister, Doris Morris of Owensboro; a nephew, Bobby Lee Morris of Owensboro; a great niece, Amy English of Owensboro; a great nephew, Adam English of Owensboro; and a great-great-niece, Allie English of Owensboro.

Services are at 2 p.m. today, Sept. 16, at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Crosspointe Baptist Church, P.O. FORDSVILLE - Owanna Pitts, 85, of Fordsville died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, at Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore. She was a housewife, a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church and a Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include her husband, Pershing Pitts; and three sons, Bill Pitts, Carl Pitts and Floyd Pitts.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Geary Funeral Home in Fordsville. Burial: Pleasant Grove cemetery in Fordsville. Visitation: From 2 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 8 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
