Dora Elizabeth 'Dodie' Howard

Dora Elizabeth "Dodie" Howard, 71, of 2406 South Stratford Drive, Owensboro, died Friday, Nov. 5, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. Born in Daviess County, a daughter of the late W.A. and Maurine R. Baird, Mrs. Howard graduated from Utica High School in 1951. A devoted mother, grandmother and loving friend to many, her favorite time was spent caring for and nurturing her children, grandchildren and extended family. Her husband, John Howard Sr.; her daughter, Sallye Martyn Howard; and her brother, Bob Baird, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her sons, Dr. John Howard Jr. and his wife, Barbie, and Tommy Howard and his wife, Annette, all of Owensboro, and Ben Allen Howard and his wife, Tara, of Bowling Green; her grandchildren, Sarah Howard, Kathryn Howard, Rachel Howard, Sam Howard, Erin Howard, Clay Howard and Max Howard, all of Owensboro, and Jacob Howard, Will Howard and Luke Howard, all of Bowling Green; her sister, Joan Baird Payne and her brother, Arthur Baird, both of Owensboro; and Sandy Cochrane of Honeoye, N.Y., and several other nieces and nephews.

Services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home, where visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday and after 9 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Utica cemetery.

Henrietta Savako Arn

Henrietta Savako Arn died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004, at Hermitage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Owensboro. She was born Feb. 4, 1918, in Cleveland. She served as a U.S. Army nurse during World War II and after marriage moved to Dearborn Heights, Mich., where she worked as a registered nurse at Garden City Hospital. In retirement she moved to Owensboro to be with family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul A. Arn; her parents, Theodore and Blanche Savako; and her brothers, Conrad and Roman Savako. She is survived by her daughters, Denise J. Arn and Debra A. Sims; son-in-law, Dr. Gerald N. Sims Jr.; grandchildren, Paul A. Sims, Carl W. Sims and Laura G. Sims; her sister and brother-in-law, Stella S. Dejonivich and John Dejonivich; and her brother and sister-in-law, Theodore Savako and Regina Savako.

Glenn Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements. There will be no services or visitation. Interment will be in Riverview cemetery in Martins Ferry, Ohio.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the SS. Joseph & Paul Church Restoration Fund, 609 E. Fourth St., Owensboro, KY 42303 or the American Lung Association, 61 Broadway, New York, NY 10006.

Francis Nevaline Phillips

SACRAMENTO -- Francis Nevaline Phillips, 89, of 471 State Route 423, Sacramento died at 3:55 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004, at Brighton Cornerstone Nursing Home in Madisonville. She was born Jan. 27, 1915, in Hopkins County and was a homemaker. She was a member of Brier Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include a son, Rodney Phillips of Sacramento; daughters, Wanda Phillips of Shepherdsville and Wilma Harlan of Bremen; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Brier Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Gary Whitworth officiating. Burial will be in Brier Creek Cumberland Presbyterian cemetery in Bremen. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today at Tucker Memorial Chapel in Sacramento. Mrs. Phillips will lie in state from noon until 2 p.m. at the church on Wednesday.

Dennis Wayne Anderson

BREMEN -- Dennis Wayne Anderson, 56, of Bremen died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. He was a truck driver, a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Bremen and a Navy veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Smith Anderson; four sons, Troy Anderson, Danny Jones, Billy Jones and Terry Jones; three daughters, Tammy Francis, Tina Anderson and Tina Jones; his father and stepmother, Martin R. and Faye Anderson; and three brothers, Glenn Essex, Gerry Anderson and Randy Anderson.

Services: 1 p.m. Tuesday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial: Old Bethel cemetery in Central City. Visitation: After 5:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Bonnie Marie Westerfield

Bonnie Marie Westerfield, 84, of 1908 Colonial Court, Owensboro, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, at Leisure Years Nursing Home. She was born March 4, 1920, in Dimple to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gidcumb and retired from Wickes Lumber Co. as a salesperson after 20 years. She worked at Republic Aviation during World War II, was a secretary at Franklin School in Owensboro, part owner of Frankie's Cycle Shop, part owner of Radio & TV Lab, and part owner of Westerfield Printing Co. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Hillbillies Camping Club and Daviess County Fish & Game, Ladies Auxiliary (past president). She enjoyed camping, traveling, riding motorcycles and dancing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton (Franklin) Westerfield, in 1988; and a daughter, Gloria Jean Clark, in 1989.

Survivors include a son, Franklyn D. "Frankie" and his wife, Sharon Westerfield, of Owensboro; three grandchildren, Terry and his wife, Dana Westerfield, and Kenny and his wife, Kelly Westerfield, all of Owensboro, and Lori M. and her husband, John Barrett, of Cincinnati; eight great-grandchildren, Terry "TJ" Jr. and his wife, Erin Westerfield, of Port Orange, Fla., Jason C. and his wife, Tara Westerfield, of Greenville, Gloria M. Westerfield and Sonya K. Westerfield, both of Owensboro, Elizabeth "Ellie" Barrett and Jame T. "Teddy" Barrett, both of Cincinnati, and Kasey J. Westerfield and Kody Westerfield, both of Owensboro; several nieces and nephews; and an aunt, Zula Merle Applin of Indianapolis.

Services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, at Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 7 p.m. Monday and from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The Rev. David Nelson is in charge of arrangements.

Cleophas K. 'Cleo' McIntyre

Cleophas K. "Cleo" McIntyre, 87, of 1633 East 17th St., died Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born in Daviess County to the late George and Cecelia Schrecker. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Jennings McIntyre, on Oct. 12, 1976.

Survivors include two sons, Samuel J. and wife Paula McIntyre Jr. and James A. McIntyre, both of Owensboro; two daughters, Bonnie and husband Tom Crowe of Hartford and Sonja and husband Mehrdad Naderian of Newburgh, Ind.; two grandchildren, Ali Naderian of Newburgh and Stephanie and husband Mike Hathaway of Owensboro; two stepgrandchildren, Eric Mulligan and Valerie Holtzman; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.

Services are at noon Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004, at James H. Davis Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Yelvington cemetery. Visitation will be today from 3 to 8 p.m. with prayers being said at 6 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until noon at James H. Davis Funeral Home.

Marianna Hicks 'Polly' Buckles

HENDERSON -- Marianna Hicks "Polly" Buckles, 67, of Henderson died at 10:55 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004, at Methodist Hospital. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she belonged to the Allen Sunday school class and Lucy Moss Circle and was a former member of Bennett Memorial United Methodist Church. She had served as senior branch office manager for Edward Jones Investments and former superintendent of Audubon State Park. She was a charter member and past president of the Henderson County Garden Club and past president of Henderson Homemakers Association. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Mary Virginia Haynes Hicks of Daviess County; and a sister, Sierra Hicks.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Kenneth Dean Buckles; three daughters, Cathy Dosch and her husband, Lance Dosch, of Naperville, Ill., Cindy Hammond and her husband, Dave Hammond, of Henderson and Stacy Buckles of Louisville; a sister, Theresa Allen of Owensboro; three brothers, Archie Hicks and Otis Hicks, both of Owensboro, and Calvin Hicks of Piedmont, Ala.; four grandchildren, Carli Brooke Thomas, Evan Kenneth Dosch, Bryan Keith Dosch and Conner Davis Hammond; a special niece, Mary Compton; best friend, Jacquie Pritchett; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Henderson. Her niece, the Rev. Rebecca Curry and the Rev. Gary Chapman will officiate. Burial will be in Fairmont cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to American Cancer Society-Relay for Life-Polly's Parrots or to First United Methodist Church. Pallbearers will be Sonny Hicks, Martin Hicks, Wayne Hicks, Roger Hicks, Lee Hicks, Chad Hicks, Jonathan Hicks, Tim Hicks, Adam Hoskins, Michael Curry, David Curry and Alex Curry. Honorary pallbearers will be Ken Curry, Lex Curry, Charlie Staples, Ike Pritchett, Gary Compton and Mike Johnson.

Jewel Faught Jarnagan

BEAVER DAM -- Jewel Faught Jarnagan, 98, of Beaver Dam died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, at her daughter's residence in Knoxville, Tenn. She was born in Ohio County and was retired owner of Jarnagan's Store in Beaver Dam. She was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church and Grace Chapter 37 O.E.S. Her husband, Orice Jarnagan, died Feb. 19, 1995.

Survivors include grandsons, Mack (Bonnie) Hall of Bowling Green and Jon Hall of Cashiers, N.C.; a daughter, Dorothy J. Hall of Knoxville; four great-grandchildren, Emily, Jimmy, Christopher and Heather; and a sister, Helen Kelly of Wooster, Ohio.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Burial will be in Sunnyside cemetery in Beaver Dam. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until service time Wednesday at William L. Danks Funeral Home.

Carl T. Finney

HARDINSBURG -- Carl T. Finney, 92, of Hardinsburg died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, at Breckinridge Health, Inc. in Hardinsburg. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and retired from Kentucky Department of Highways.

Survivors include a son, James Lynn Finney; two daughters, Glenda Wright and Brenda Wright; a brother, Hershel Finney; and three sisters, Opal Goins, Faye Finney and Pearl Metzger.

Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday at Friendship Baptist Church in Hardinsburg. Visitation: From 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg. Burial: Ivy Hill cemetery in Hardinsburg. Memorial contributions: Kosair Charities.

Catherine Elizabeth Galloway

Catherine Elizabeth Galloway, 84, formerly of 7941 Knottsville-Mount Zion Road, Philpot died at 5:15 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004, at Bon Harbor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Dec. 28, 1917, in Daviess County to Clifton Neal and Mary Etta Woods Neal and retired from Bishop Soenneker Home as a nurse's aide. She was a member of St. William Catholic Church and Maceo Quilting Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, James D. Galloway in 1986; sons, Stephen Earl Galloway and James A. Galloway; and a daughter, Judy Galloway.

Survivors include sons, Bernard N. Galloway and his wife Elsie of Ensor and Larry Ray Galloway and his wife Betty of Owensboro; daughters, Mary Ellen Ashworth and her husband James of Owensboro, Thelma Jean Metts and her husband Charles of South Carolina and Faye E. Vanover and her husband Neal of Reed; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; a brother, Jerry Manaway and his wife Janice of Owensboro; a sister-in-law, Reba Manaway of Florida; and sisters, Martine Horn and her husband Bob of Las Vegas, Dorothy Gonzalas and her husband Bob of Wildwood, Fla., and Louise Crews of Miramar, Fla.

Services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Pius X Catholic Church with the Rev. Richard Meredith officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home. Prayers will be said at 6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family wishes that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Alzheimer's Association Greater Kentucky and Southern Indiana Chapter, 3703 Taylorsville Road, Suite 102, Louisville, KY 40220-1330.
