Christine Elizabeth Lawrence Mitchell, 64, of Paris, Ky., died Thursday at Columbia Hospital, Lexington. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, James Donald Mitchell; sons, Garry Mitchell of Burlington, Robert Lawrence of Lawrenceburg, and James Donald Mitchell Jr. of Paris, Ky.; daughters, Barbara Richie, Debbie Wilcher, Janice Mitchell, Julie Traylor and Crystal Mitchell, all of Paris, Ky., Elizabeth Sargent of Morehead, Donna Overly of Bourbon County and Tammy Mitchell of Scott County; brothers, Carl Lawrence of Paris, Ky., and Ora Lawrence of Lexington; 29 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Shirley Reeves, 88, of Butler, died Wednesday at Grant Manor Nursing Home, Williamstown. She was a homemaker. Her husband, John Louis Reeves, died in 1980.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Peoples Funeral Home, Butler. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Butler Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Hillview Manor Nursing Home, Main and Front streets, Butler, Ky. 41006.

Robert D. Ryan, 56, of Cincinnati, formerly of Pendleton County, died Thursday at the Ft. Hamilton-Hughes Memorial Hospital, Hamilton.

Survivors include a son, Craig Ryan of New Orleans, La; a daughter, Amy Sorensen of Draper, Utah; brothers, Joe Ryan of Butler, Charlie Ryan of Newport, Stanley Ryan of Fairfield and Ralph Ryan of Blue Ash; a sister, Elaine Cox of Alexandria; and one grandchild.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will be there from noon until the time of services on Saturday. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth.

Denise Scott, 31, of Covington, was killed Nov. 6 in her home. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a son, Elijah Schsner of Covington; and daughters, Alyssa Fulner of Covington and Rachel Scott of Florence.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell.

Walter R. Scott, 71, of Alexandria, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Hospice Unit, Covington. He was a retired sheet metal worker with Sheet Metal Workers Union Local No. 141, Cincinnati; a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Camp Springs, and a Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Jo Scott; sons, Steven Scott of Wilder and Mark Scott of Ft. Thomas; daughters, Bobbie Jo Scott of Butler, Barbara Suzann Young and Robin Moore, both of Alexandria, and Jackie Freeman of Grants Lick; brothers, Jerry Scott of Cold Spring and David Scott of Taylor Mill; sisters, Jean Falk and Sandy Scott, both of Covington; and 12 grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the church. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Camp Springs.

Dorothy M. Thompson, 76, of Taylor Mill, died at 11:52 p.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker and a member of Independence Christian Church.

Survivors include her husband, Lester D. Thompson; daughters, Sue Carole Reynolds of Lexington and Kay T. Mistler of Ft. Wright; a sister, Mabel Carr of Falmouth; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Connley Bros. Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at noon Saturday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to the church, 5221 Madison Pike, Independence, Ky. 41051.

Charles William Yates, 76, of Covington, died Thursday at his home.

Charles Yates loved cooking

At Yates family gatherings in Covington, one thing was always on the menu: Charles Yates' baked ham.

Cooking was one of his favorite pastimes, and ham was his specialty. Food brought the family together during the holidays.

"His hams were better than anything you'd ever put in your mouth," said a daughter, Donna Kinman of Dry Ridge.

Mr. Yates died at 2:28 p.m. Thursday at his home in Covington. He was 76.

He grew up in Covington and helped support his siblings - and the World War II effort - by taking apart old vehicles so the metal could be recycled. He later was drafted and served as a cook in the Army.

After he returned from the war, he married and had eight children.

He worked for several companies, including Ohio Scroll, a woodworking company in Covington, and Modern Furniture in Covington, where he retired as a delivery driver 14 years ago. By night, he worked as a bartender at Shamrock Cafe in Covington.

His friends called him "Oops," Ms. Kinman said: "Why, I really don't know."

When he retired, he enjoyed being at home with his wife of 49 years, Esmuel.

Other survivors include sons, Steve Campbell of Williamstown, Bob Campbell of Dayton, Ohio, Charles G. Yates of Taylor Mill and Will Yates of Erlanger; daughters, Joyce Hayes of Richwood, Marian Johnson of Covington, Dorene Robbins of Florence; a sister, Annie Lucas of Villa Hills; 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Covington, with visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery, Dry Ridge.

Robert Bickers, 84, of Latonia, died Friday at Gardenview II Nursing Home, Cincinnati. He was a retired truck driver with Wilson Freight Co. and a member of Eggleston United Methodist Church, Erlanger, and was a member of Northern Ken tucky Seniors.

Survivors include his wife, Lorena W. Bickers; sisters, Pauline Reeves of Ludlow and Flossie Rawles of Williamstown; stepdaughters, Victoria Glass of Independence and Sandra Beelido of Stockton, Calif.; and eight step-grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Tuesday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Gertrude V. Connelly, 88, of Crittenden, died Friday at her home. She was a homemaker. Survivors include daughters, Lydia Mae Mullins, Mary Alice Rust and Janet Durr of Crittenden, Audrey Leek of Verona and Frances Roland of Crescent Springs; sons, Frankie Connelly of Taylor Mill and Arthur Connelly of Crittenden; 24 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Walton, with visitation at 11 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Crittenden Cemetery.

Mary Emma Hartman, 69, of Ludlow, died Thursday at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati. She was a member of Mother of God Church, Covington, and Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 280 Auxiliary in Newport, and a volunteer with the March of Dimes.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Leo Hartman; sons, Richard R. Hartman of Southgate, Daniel R. Hartman of Burlington, Lawrence A. Hartman of Ludlow and John J. Hartman of Covington; daughters, Diane Hartman, Mary Lee Conway and Ruth Ellen Hartman of Ludlow, Deborah Deaton of Covington, Patricia Hartman of Park Hills and Donna Rigney of Burlington; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at noon Monday at the church, with visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow, and Eagles services at 6 p.m. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell. David Johnson, 52, of Covington, died at 6:51 p.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a pipefitter with United Industrial Piping Co. and a member of First Baptist Church, Booneville, Masonic Lodge No. 678 and the Miamisburg, Ohio, VFW. He was an Air Force veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Hamilton Johnson; daughters, Andrea Prewitt of Lebanon, Ohio, and Pamela Smiddie of Clarksville, Ohio; his mother, Inza Johnson of Clarksville, Ohio; a brother, Larry Johnson of New Vienna, Ohio; sisters, Diana Bradley of Muncie, Ind., Eileen Hebb of Wilmington, Ohio, Veneda Cammett and Vivian Wood, both of Mason, Ohio; and nine grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Breathitt Funeral Home, Jackson, with visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia, and at 6 p.m. Sunday at Breathitt Funeral Home. Burial will be in Watt Johnson Cemetery, Jackson.

Curtley W. Kidwell, 68, of Long Lake, Minn., formerly of Erlanger, died at 12:25 a.m. Thursday in Long Lake Health Care Center. He was a retired plant manager of several truck manufacturing companies and an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include a son, Theodore Wayne Kidwell of Ft. Bragg, Calif.; a daughter, Patricia Gau of Minnetonka, Minn.; his parents, Everett and Ann Kidwell of Erlanger; brothers, Clarence Kidwell of El Paso, Texas , and John Kidwell of Coffeyville, Kan.; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Monday at Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Elsmere, with visitation from 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell.

Grace J. Lane, 90, of Walton, died Thursday at Gallatin Health Care Center, Warsaw. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Harold F. Lane, died in 1980.

Survivors include a son, Rick Lane of Walton, and a daughter, Grace Campbell of Ft. Myers, Fla.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence, with visitation from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery in Newark, N.J.

Clarence Earl Shaw Sr., 93, of Cincinnati, formerly of Ft. Wright, died at 1:41 p.m. Thursday at Crestview Parke Care Center in Cincinnati.

He was a retired switchman with the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad and a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, Covington, and the Sunday Morning Club.

His wife, Helen Shaw, died on March 14.

Survivors include his son, Clarence Earl Shaw Jr. of Sarasota, Fla.; a grandchild and a great-grandchild.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington, with visitation from 10 a.m. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to the church, 1229 Highway Ave., Covington, 41011.

Her husband, John Stewart Snelling, died in 1979.
