Christine McPherson

BUCK CREEK - Christine McPherson, 82, of Buck Creek died Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at her home. Christine was born on July 18, 1923, in Muhlenberg County. She was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting, cooking and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandson. She was a member of Union Chapel General Baptist Church in Ennis. Her husband of more than 48 years, Harold McPherson, died April 13, 1994. Christine was also preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.

Survivors include a son, Wayne McPherson of Buck Creek; a daughter and her husband, Lynn and Ron Sweeney of Livermore; three grandchildren, Brett McPherson of Livermore, Kyle McPherson of Tell City, Ind., and Kristi Hayden of Owensboro; a great-grandson, Beau McPherson of Livermore; and three brothers, Caryle Robinson, Paul Robinson and Tommy Robinson, all of Muhlenberg County.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Union Chapel General Baptist Church in Ennis, with the Rev. Gary Shockley officiating. Burial will be in Union Chapel cemetery. Friends may visit with the McPherson family from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Muster Funeral Homes, Livermore Chapel.

The McPherson family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Union Chapel cemetery Fund, c/o Muster Funeral Homes, P.O. Box 228, Livermore, KY 42352. Memorial contribution envelopes will be available at Musters in Livermore.

Kevin Bratcher

BEAVER DAM - Kevin Bratcher, 40, of Lynchburg, Va., formerly of Ohio County, died Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at his home. He was born in Louisville on June 18, 1965, to Hoyt and Eleanor Whitely Bratcher of Horse Branch, who survive. He was employed by Areva in Lynchburg as a mechanical engineer and was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Lynchburg. He graduated from University of Louisville.

Survivors include his wife, Francis Geary Bratcher of Lynchburg; a son, Nicholas Bratcher of Lynchburg; a daughter, Tabitha Bratcher of Lynchburg; a brother, Dwayne Bratcher and his wife, Pamela, of Hartford; two sisters, Angelita Swift and her husband, Mark, and Renetta Romero and her husband, Paul, all of Horse Branch; and two nieces and two nephews.

Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 31, at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam, with the Rev. Tim Cook officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside cemetery in Beaver Dam. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 30, and after 9 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Freda Lee Wemes

Freda Lee Wemes, 79, of 820 Bolivar St., Owensboro, was called home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, July 27, 2005, at her home. She was a native of Gauley Bridge, W.Va., had been a waitress at the Executive Inn for 20 years, attended Good Shepherd Church and loved playing bingo, listening to music and spending time with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alva and Almida Coleman Miller; a son, Michael John Parker, in 1990; and her husband, Wilbur C. Wemes, in 1995.

Survivors include five daughters, Freda Turner of Nitro, W.Va., Wanda Toney of Owensboro, Linda Jo Brown of Las Vegas, Janet Heitz Thurman of Hardinsburg and Misha Byers of Owensboro; a son, Leonard "Will" Heitz of Owensboro; two sisters, Irene Walker of Brunswick, Ohio, and Lorena Lilly of Beckley, W.Va.; a brother, Edward Miller of Gauley Bridge; 25 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 31, at Glenn Funeral Home chapel. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 30, and after noon Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sorgho Baptist Church cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice.

Michael 'Mike' E. Schartung

Michael "Mike" E. Schartung, 68, of Owensboro passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2005, at his home. Born Nov. 26, 1936, in Daviess County, Mr. Schartung was retired from Whirlpool and was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church. She had also worked at Sears for 10 years. Mr. Schartung was an Army veteran and served during the Korean War. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and reading Louis L'Amour novels. He was preceded in death by his father, John Albert Schartung, in 1991; a daughter, Angelayn Schartung, in 1967; and a grandson, Drake Schartung, in 1997.

Mr. Schartung is survived by his wife of 41 years, Ava Clarine Erwin Schartung; a daughter, Tonji J. (and Russell) Morris of Huntingburg, Ind.; two sons, Mark (and Robin) Schartung of Georgetown and Edward Schartung of Owensboro; his mother, Mary Cecilia Schartung of Owensboro; five grandchildren, Myndi Morris, Brittney Morris, Nicholis Schartung, Ayden Schartung and Tristan Stewart; six brothers, Tom (and Joan) Schartung of Bristol, Tenn., James R. (and Dorothy) Schartung, William H. (and Janet) Schartung and John A. Schartung Jr., all of Owensboro, and Bernard A. (and Janet) Schartung of Knottsville; and five sisters, Mary Joann Millay of Stanley, Dorothy Marie Quinn of Utica, Mary Josephine (and Bob) Haynes of Owensboro, Barbara Helen (and Bob) Hodskins of Fordsville and Patricia Ann (and Larry) Lucht of Pinellas Park, Fla.

Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 30, at Precious Blood Catholic Church, with Father Brad Whistle officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Prayers will be said at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to American Cancer Society.

Robert Raymond Craig

DUNMOR - Robert Raymond Craig, 81, of Dunmor died Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital emergency room in Greenville, after a brief illness. He was a factory worker and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include a brother, Thomas J. Craig.

Services: 1 p.m. today at Penrod Baptist Church. Burial: Penrod Baptist Church cemetery. Visitaiton: After noon today at the church. Gary's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Imogene Smith Fulkerson

CENTRAL CITY - Imogene Smith Fulkerson, 61, of Central City died Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at her home.

Survivors include her husband, Shirley Lee Fulkerson; two brothers, Truman Smith and Hobert Smith; and two sisters, Darline Schroyer and Eyvone Rager.

Services are private. Tucker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Clifford K Martin

HARTFORD - Clifford K Martin, 86, of Hartford died Wednesday, July 27, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was formerly of Raleigh, N.C., was born in the Buford community in Ohio County, was an Air Force veteran and served in World War II and the Korean War. He was a professor of agronomy at North Carolina State University. He became a deacon at 16, was a former member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Buford and Forest Hills Baptist Church in Raleigh, N.C., and was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Nicholson.

Survivors include his spouse, Marjorie Haydon Martin; three sons, Douglas Martin of Utica, David Martin of Pinehurst, N.C., and Joel Martin of Asheville, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Edie Morse of Raleigh, Matthew Martin of Frankfort, Benjamin Martin of Owensboro, Ellen Porter of Hartford, Andrew Martin of Pinehurst, Farra Wilson of Boston and Anna Martin and Clint Martin, both of Asheville; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Bevil Bros. Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Burial will follow at Mount Carmel Baptist Church cemetery in Buford. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Margie McElfresh

PEACH GROVE - Margie McElfresh, 84, of Peach Grove died Sunday, July 24, 2005, at her home. Mrs. McElfresh was born in Pulaski County on Aug. 14, 1920, to John and Viola Sowder McKinney. She was a member of Foster United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carston Virgil McElfresh, 1990; and a son, Ronald W. McElfresh, in 1990.

Survivors include three sons, Greg McElfresh of Butler, Monte McElfresh of Peach Grove and Billy Bales of Berea; five daughters, Laura Wilfert of Anderson Township, Ohio, Patty Lanham of Berea, Vicky Cummins of Owensboro, Jackie Brooks of Augusta and Frances Perry of Mount Carmel, Ohio; three sisters, Ruthelma Smith of Crab Orchard, Ruby Alcorn of Richmond, Ind., and Virgie Alcorn of Seymour, Ind.; 27 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

Services were Tuesday at Peoples Funeral Home in Falmouth. Burial was in Johnsville cemetery in Bracken County. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice of Hope in Maysville or Beaver Lick Baptist Church.

Tamara Jane 'Tammy' St. Clair Pate

Tamara Jane "Tammy" St. Clair Pate, 42, of 402 Mulberry Court, Hartford, died Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at University Hospital in Louisville. She was born Sept. 24, 1962, in Rensselaer, Ind. She was a pipefitter and a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local No. 633 in Owensboro and loved to camp and fish.

Survivors include her husband, David Wesley "Tim" Pate of Hartford; a stepson, Christopher Lee Pate of Evanston, Ind.; a daughter, Kirsty Ann Schroader of Hartford; a stepdaughter, Holly Marie Rowland of Hardinsburg; six stepgrandchildren; a brother, Micheal St. Clair of Evansville; two sisters, her twin, Tonja St. Clair of Horse Branch and Angela St. Clair of Evansville; and her parents, Harold St. Clair of Rosine and Anna Mae Wilson of Horse Branch.

Services are at 2 p.m. Friday, July 29, at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home, with Brother Darrell Blacklock and Brother Terry Geary officiating. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Olaton cemetery in Ohio County. Gracie Pearl Stringer

GAINESVILLE, Va. - Gracie Pearl Stringer, 92, of Gainesville, formerly of McLean County, died Saturday, July 23, 2005, at Birmingham Green Nursing Home in Manassas, Va. Gracie Pearl Stewart was born Jan. 19, 1913, in Muhlenberg County to the late Garnett and Lizzie Majors Stewart and was later married to John Thurman Stringer in 1939. Gracie Pearl was a retired sales clerk from the former Atlantic Mills Department Store in Detroit and was a member of the Baptist faith. Her husband, John Stringer, died Feb. 14, 1967.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Hilda and Brad Koch of Franklin, N.C., and Lila and Perry Knight of Gainesville; five grandchildren and their spouses, Sabrina Chase and Shannon and Rusty Wiggins, Wade and Angela Knight, Wes and Lori Knight and Kera and Steve Carte; and six great-grandchildren, John Hamilton Skiperdene, Christian Skiperdene, Sydney Skiperdene, Kyle Sholar, Marinna Knight and Kyla Carte.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Worthington Chapel cemetery in McLean County, with Brother Chester Smith officiating. Friends may visit with the Stringer family from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel.

The Stringer family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Worthington Chapel cemetery Fund, c/o Mrs. Grace Miller, 2393 U.S. 431, Island, KY 42350. Memorial contribution envelopes will be available at Musters in Calhoun.

Gearld R. Winchester
07/28/2005

Gearld R. Winchester, 69, of Owensboro died Monday, July 25, 2005, at Maple Manor in Greenville. He was born Feb. 15, 1936, to the late Elwood and Mary Finley Winchester. He was a retired foreman with W.R. Grace Co. and also retired from Ayer Flying Service. He was an Air Force veteran.

Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. today at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to American Cancer Society, 319 W. 10th St., Suite 101, Owensboro, KY 42301.
