William H. Whoberry

TOLEDO, Ohio - William H. Whoberry, 73, of Toledo died Sunday, July 24, 2005, at Flower Hospital in Sylvania, Ohio. William Whoberry was born Aug. 15, 1931, in McLean County to the late Everet and Forda Hack Whoberry. He was a retired produce manager and enjoyed playing dominoes and bingo. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Whoberry.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Whoberry; two daughters, Vickie Lorge of Youngtown, Ariz., and Kelly Engle of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth Dixon of Portsmouth, Ohio.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel, with Dr. Richard Sams officiating. Burial will be in New Cypress cemetery in McLean County. Friends may visit with the Whoberry family from 9 a.m. to time of services Friday at Musters in Calhoun.

ELK GROVE VILLAGE, Ill. - Raymond E. McElvain, 68, of 359 Maple Lane, Elk Grove Village died at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004, at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village. He was born Jan. 21, 1936, in Central City and retired as a sheet metal layout man.
Survivors include his mother, Catherine Adrian Jones of Central City; his beloved girlfriend, Sharon Iversen of Chicago; daughters, Ann (Thomas) Radcliffe of Rockford, Ill., Laura (Eric) Gundersen of Hoffman Estates, Ill., and Stephanie (Randy) Jenovai of Elk Grove Village; granddaughters, Shannon Radcliffe, Gabrielle Gundersen and Lauren Jenovai; brothers, Tom (Mae) McElvain of Beechmont and Gary (Olga) McElvain of Dunedin, Fla.; and a sister, Kay (Gary) Silcox of Jellico, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by his father, Odie McElvain; and a sister, Frieda Simonsen.
Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Pastor Roy Loney officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Central City. Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Saturday at the Tucker Funeral Home.
Vivian C. Hendrix Ramey

ASHLAND - Vivian C. Hendrix Ramey, 82, of Ashland, formerly of Route 3 in Grayson, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2005, at King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland. Mrs. Ramey was the daughter of the late Forest Hendrix and the late Lula Rhodes Hendrix. She was the wife of the late Ralph Ramey. Mrs. Ramey was a former employee of the Carter County Board of Education, a homemaker, a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church of Megans and attended the Heritage Temple Freewill Baptist Church in Cannonsburg. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Ralph Ramey.
She is survived by three daughters, Sharon (Michael) Caudill of Ashland, Phyllis (George) Howard of Catlettsburg and Teresa (Bernard) Kouns of Grayson; her two sons, Michael (Pam) Ramey of Franklin, Ohio, and Ronald (Dorothy) Ramey of Ashland; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lillian Taylor of Whitesville and Gail Hamilton of Bloomington, Ind.; and her brother, Adrian Hendrix of Masonville.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson, with Minister Jim Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest cemetery in Grayson. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Betty Bittel Wathen, 68, of Owensboro died at 6:50 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2005, at her home. She was born on July 9, 1937, in Owensboro to Clettus Evans and Maybelle Eply Evans. She was a housewife and member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church. She enjoyed being with family and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Robert Paul Bittel, in 1997.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Wathen; two sons, Robert D. Bittel and his wife, Lori, of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Randy Bittel and his wife, Dana, of Corinth, Miss.; two daughters, Diana Bittel Minton and Kathy West and her husband, Rick, all of Owensboro; 15 grandchildren, Derek Minton, Hannah Minton, Haley Minton, Adam West, Julie West, Blake West, Kristen West, Erin Bittel, Alex Bittel, Abby Bittel, Mirandi Bittel, Reece Bittel, Riley Bittel, Cassie Morris and Whitney Morris; three brothers, Jimmy Evans, Mike Evans and Darrell Evans, all of Owensboro; and three sisters, Virginia Bland, Sandra Husk and Myrtle Evans, all of Owensboro.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Mother Catholic Church, with the Rev. Freddie Byrd officiating. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home. A sharing service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Gracie Voyles

Gracie Voyles of Owensboro, formerly of Pellville, died Monday, Nov. 21, 2005, at Harborside Healthcare. She was born in Hancock County to J.C. and Minnie Sinnett Corley on Feb. 16, 1914. Gracie was a faithful member of West Point Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and played piano for many years. Gracie will be dearly missed by all that had the honor to be her friend. Heaven awaits our dear sister, God bless her. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Beulah Lindsey and Mamie Hale.
She is survived by two sisters, Myrle Bickett of Hawesville and Rosena Ingram of Richmond, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Gracie will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at West Point Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today and from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to West Point cemetery Fund.

Brenda G. Bratcher, 56, of 2821 West 6th St., Owensboro, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Nov. 21, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born on Aug. 17, 1949, in Livermore. She was an avid UK basketball fan, loved her grandbabies, spending time with her family and friends and always caring for others. She was preceded in death by her mother, Eleanor Irene St. Clair Elliott.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Richard L. Bratcher; two daughters, Lisa (Robert II) Camp of Mitchell, Ind., and Shannon (Jason) Chappell of Owensboro; her father and stepmother, Clyde "C.J." and Judy St. Clair of Owensboro; six grandchildren, Lindsay Camp, Gracie Camp, Madison Camp, Jace Chappell, Christian Chappell and Luke Chappell; a sister, Mae St. Clair of Bedford, Ind.; a stepsister, Shelley Roberts of Owensboro; a stepbrother, Steven Vincent of Owensboro; several aunts and uncles; and three nieces and a nephew.
Services are at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 26, at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial is in Pleasant Grove cemetery in Sorgho. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Dorotha Lee Spain, 80, of Owensboro died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, in Carrollton, Texas. She was born Sept. 20, 1924, to the late Charlie and Delores Sandefur Moss in Daviess County. She was a member of Buena Vista Baptist Church, worked at General Electric for 18 years and helped her husband manage a Greyhound bus station in Bluefield, W.Va., until her retirement. She was preceded in death by her husband, Welvin O. Spain, who died in 1999; her son, Bobby Dale Spain, who died in 1994; a granddaughter, Leslie Upchurch, who died in 1998; and a brother, Herbert Moss, who died in 1975.
Survivors include a daughter, Faye McCarrell of Carrollton; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Tommy Moss of Daytona Beach, Fla.; and two sisters, Mina Smith and Patty Wilhoite, both of Owensboro.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after noon Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to American Heart Association, 333 Guthrie St., Suite 207, Louisville, KY 40209.

Myrtle F. Coomes, 91, of 3231 E. 8th St., Owensboro, passed away Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, at her home. She was born in Daviess County to the late Silas E. and Eunice Cecil Taylor. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and was a homemaker. She loved to quilt and play cards. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Marjorie Marie Coomes; a daughter-in-law, Elaine Coomes; a son-in-law, Lambert Cecil; two brothers, Earl Taylor and Billy Joe Taylor; three sisters, Louise Wooten, Ethelene Lanham and Marjorie Tong; two grandsons, Billy Coomes and Michael Cecil; and a great-grandson, Nicholas Porter.
Surviving is her husband of 71 years, James E. Coomes; four sons, Charles E. Coomes of Houston, Joseph Donald and his wife, Joyce Coomes of Owensboro, James Randall and his wife, Charlotte Coomes, of Owensboro and Richard Eugene and his wife, Rebecca Coomes, of Philpot; a daughter, Rose Ann Cecil of Philpot; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Taylor of Owensboro.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, with burial following in Resurrection cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home. Prayers will be said at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family has requested that friends make a Mass offering in her memory.
Tom Day

EVANSVILLE - Tom Day, 62, of Evansville for three years and formerly of Newburgh, Ind., died Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, in a car accident. Tom was born in Morganfield on Jan. 31, 1942. He was the firstborn son of James and Maria Day, both of whom preceded him in death. Tom retired from Alcoa in 1993 after 30 years of service in the finishing and pack and ship departments. Tom was formerly a member of St. John Parish in Newburgh. He was a 1960 graduate of St. Vincent Academy in Waverly. Tom also enjoyed watching his sons play football and wrestle along with watching his daughter swim and play basketball. Tom was a member of the Castle High School Booster club and was very involved during the years of 1979 through 1989. He was president of St. Bernard's Booster Club. Tom also loved to travel, play golf, boat, cook, play with his dog and be with his family. Tom, Rita and family have wonderful memories of trips and outings that they shared over the years. Tom was a very proud and loving father to his sons and daughter, and a caring and loving husband to his wife.
Tom is survived by his wife of 43 years, Rita Day of Evansville; a son, Gregory T. Day and wife, Myra, of Evansville; a son, Eric J. Day and wife, Kelly, of Henderson; a son, Craig B. Day of Newburgh; a daughter, Tonja Day of Memphis, Tenn.; a sister, Wilma Jean Wolfe of Morganfield; a brother, David Day of Henderson; a brother, Phil Day of Morganfield; several nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Jon, Josh, Jessica, Mitchell, Meghan, Makaylah, Erica and Andrew Day; and his favorite dog, Pepper.
A Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. John's Catholic Church cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday, Nov. 2, from 2 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 6 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Home, Newburgh Chapel, and Wednesday from 10 a.m. until Mass time at the church. CENTERTOWN - Mikel R. Grider, 40, of Centertown died Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, at his home. He was a farmer and member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Beaver Dam.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Veteto Grider; a son, John Mikel Grider; a daughter, Katelyn Grider; his parents, Joe and Bertha Allen Grider; and two brothers, Joe Brent Grider and Dennie Lee Grider.

Richard N. 'Dick' Kreke

Richard N. "Dick" Kreke, 82, of 1420 Waverly Place, Owensboro, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born Oct. 10, 1922, in Illinois to the late Carl and Thelma (Claxon) Kreke. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served in the European Theater. He was a member of Third Baptist Church and New Millennium Sunday school class. He retired from Western Kentucky Gas Computing Center in 1982 as operations manager. Dick enjoyed spending time with his family, fellowship with members of Moonlight Coffee Table and collecting antique toys. He was an avid car enthusiast and an early organizer of drag racing in Owensboro. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Jean Foster and Margie Kaetzel; and a brother, Carl Kreke Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Renetta Kreke; a son, Mike Kreke and wife, Kathleen, of Owensboro; a daughter, Pat Hale and husband, Larry, of Owensboro; and three grandchildren, Aaron, Matthew and Cheryl Kreke, all of Owensboro.
