Drury 'Bill' Christian

Drury "Bill" Christian, 82, of Newburgh, Ind., formerly of Owensboro, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, at VNA of Evansville. He was born Sept. 18, 1922, in Daviess County and retired as a carpenter from Carpenters, Foremen & Superintendent after 33 years of service. He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II, a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed NASCAR, politics and reading. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Hould in 2004.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Martha M. Christian; two sons, Mark Christian of Henderson and Tony Christian of Newburgh; a daughter, Paula Kern of Richmond, Va.; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Joe Christian of New Kensington, Pa., and Paul Christian of Owensboro; and two sisters, Mary Drue Jones of Owensboro and Patty Butler of Washington.

Services are at noon Monday at Blessed Mother Catholic Church with the Rev. Freddie Byrd officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection cemetery with full military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 696. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Monday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home. Prayers will be said at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family wishes that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Blessed Mother Building Fund, 601 East 23rd St., Owensboro, KY 42301.

Elbert Eugene Young

BOWLING GREEN - Elbert Eugene Young, 71, of Bowling Green died at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, at his home. He was born Jan. 20, 1933, in McLean County to the late Jesse Ray Young and Bertha Thompson Young. He retired from Eaton and retired as a CPO with the U.S. Navy in 1972. He was a member and deacon at First Baptist Church and a member of Gideon International and was a volunteer at the Medical Center. He was a Mason and a member of BGAMUG.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Sue Young of Bowling Green; two sons, John Mark Young of Washington D.C., and Christopher Young and wife Amy of Alvaton; two daughters, Cindy Jones and husband Barry of Alvaton and Leca Duke and husband Gary of Odenton, Md.; a brother, Alton Young of Calhoun; three sisters, Janice Young of Calhoun, Elizabeth McLaughlin of Calhoun and Mary Jane Towery of Calhoun; and grandchildren, Jonathan and Brie Jones, Amanda Duke, Eli, Becca and Olivia Young.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. today at First Baptist Church in Bowling Green. Interment will be in Arlington cemetery in Arlington Va., at a later date. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church Christian Life Center, 621 E. Chestnut, Bowling Green, KY 42101 or Gideons International. J.C. Kirby & Son Broadway Chapel in Bowling Green is in charge of arrangements.

Nathaniel Austin Dunn

Nathaniel Austin Dunn, 49, of Graham died Friday, Aug. 26, 2005, at 3 p.m. in the Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. He was born in Muhlenberg County on Dec. 4, 1955, the son of Melvin and Mary Kathryn Dunn. He was a truck driver and was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his mother, Mary Dunn Steele; two sons, Austin Wayne Dunn and Melvin Ray Dunn; one daughter, Kathryn Marie Dunn; one sister, Pat (Jimmie) Brewer of Greenville; four brothers, Danny (Jean) Dunn, Donald (Anita) Dunn and Tindell Dunn, all of Greenville, and Timmie (Elaine) Dunn of Hopkinsville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted today at 2 p.m. from Gary's Funeral Home by the Rev. Danny Mooneyhan. Burial will be in Green's Chapel Church cemetery. Friends may call after 9 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Mary Ellen Stanley Deering

Mary Ellen Stanley Deering, 59, of Greenville died Friday, Aug. 26, 2005, at her home. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, Edward Deering and Bryan Deering.

Services are private. Glenn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jeremy Adam Burk

HAWESVILLE - Jeremy Adam Burk, 26, of Hawesville died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Daviess County. He was born in Tell City, Ind., on June 9, 1979, to John and Mary Elaine Morrison Burk. He was employed at Kinder-Morgan in Hawesville and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his mother and her husband, Elaine and William Harding of Tell City; his father, John Burk of Hawesville; half brothers, David and Brett; half sisters, Lucy, Kristin, Patricia and Tawny; his maternal grandmother, Mildred Jean Morrison of Hawesville; and his stepgrandmother, Betty Jene Harding of Tell City.

Services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, at Gibson & Son Funeral Home in Hawesville with the Rev. Brian Adkins officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary in Hawesville. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 7 a.m. until services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Edith P. Austin

Edith P. Austin, 77, of 319 Plum St., Owensboro, died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, at her daughter's home. She was born Nov. 16, 1927, in Daviess County and was a housewife and a member of Sorgho Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, C.W. Austin on Jan. 19, 1998; a son, Jerry Lee Graham in 1993; and her parents, Frank Davis and Nannie Bell Morris Davis.

Survivors include a daughter, Connie McIntyre and her husband, Conrad, of Owensboro; a son, Terry Wayne Graham of Owensboro; four grandchildren, Shannon Carter and Michael Carter, both of Owensboro, Kevin Carter of Tennessee and Michael Graham of St. Petersburg, Fla.; eight great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are at noon Monday at Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Bill Jolly officiating. Burial will be in Sorgho Baptist Church cemetery. Visitation is after 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Hospice Memorial Fund, 723 Harvard Drive, Owensboro, KY 42301. Envelopes available at the funeral home.

Kenneth Ray Ashford Sr.

BEAVER DAM - Kenneth Ray Ashford Sr., 79, of Beaver Dam died Friday, Aug. 26, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was a retired coal miner and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Wright Ashford; a son, Kenneth Ray "Buddy" Ashford Jr.; a daughter, Karen Coy; two brothers, William Ashford and Bobby "Pete" Ashford; and a sister, Dorothy Gillim.

Services: 2 p.m. today at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Burial is private. Visitation: After 9 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Juanita Crutcher

PADUCAH - Juanita Crutcher, 86, of 544 Lone Oak Road, Paducah, died at 6:15 p.m., Saturday, July 23, 2005, at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah. She was a homemaker and member of Bethel Baptist Church. She graduated from Daviess County High School and was a 40-year resident of Moore's Resort and an avid NASCAR fan. She was preceded in death by her father, William Salmon; her mother, Edna Hazel Salmon; two brothers; six sisters; a grandson, Neal Rogers; and a granddaughter, Tanya Klecz.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Crutcher of Paducah; a son, Doug Crutcher of Knoxville, Tenn.; three daughters, Nita Rogers of Frankfort, Ind., Debbie Linker of Boca Raton, Fla., and Robin Phillips of Stevensville, Mich.; a brother, O.B. Salmon of Grayville, Ill.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, at Collier Funeral Chapel in Benton, with the Rev. Mark Lilly. Burial will be in Moreland cemetery in Gilbertsville. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Elsie I. Devillez

TELL CITY, Ind. - Elsie I. Devillez, 94, of Tell City died at 11:54 a.m., Sunday, July 24, 2005, at Beverly Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Sept. 22, 1910, in Huffman, Ind. Elsie Lambeck was married to Earl Devillez in June 1933. He preceded her in death in 1965. She was a homemaker and lifelong member of Trinity United Church of Christ and served on the Women's Guild. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, cooking, reading and spending time with her family and friends. She was a very caring and loving person to all she came in contact with. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Christian and Anna (Foerster) Lambeck; a sister, Edith Smith; and a brother, Roland Lambeck.

Survivors include two sons, David Devillez and wife Laverne of Tell City and James Devillez and wife LaVerne of Owensboro; four grandchildren, Lisa (Greg) Carter of Benton, Matthew Devillez of Santa Claus, Ind., Jim (Sheri) Devillez of Ballwin, Mo., and Chris Devillez of Great Notch, N.J.; five great-grandchildren, George, C.J. and John Carter and Madison and Bailey Devillez; a brother, Harold Lambeck of Troy, Ind.; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear and loving friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home in Tell City, with the Rev. Chip Jahn officiating. Burial will take place in Trinity United Church of Christ cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Church of Christ, 12338 North St. Peter Road, Lamar, IN 47550.

Robert L. Goodman

Robert L. Goodman, 70, of 5520 Highway 1514, Owensboro, died Sunday, July 24, 2005. He was born on Oct. 14, 1934, to the late George and Lillian Mae Goodman. He was retired from Home Furniture Co. and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by a son, Jonnie Goodman; a granddaughter, Lisa Marie Krahwinkel; three brothers, Jimmy, Buddy and Gene Goodman; and two sisters, Audrey Thompson and Sissy Vincent.

He is survived by five daughters, Karen Lewis, Robin Krahwinkel, Kathy Goble, Debbie Villalon and Lisa Galloway; two sons, Robert W. Goodman and Steven Goodman; a sister, Helen Quisenberry; two special nieces, Cindy Johnson and Patty Smith; 19 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Robert L. Goodman family, c/o Davis Funeral Home, 3009 Frederica St., Owensboro, KY 42301.

Robert E. 'Bob Ed' Kipling

CENTRAL CITY - Robert E. "Bob Ed" Kipling, 77, of 325 South Cherry Hill Road, Central City, died at 1:45 p.m., Sunday, July 24, 2005, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville. He was born Feb. 7, 1928, in Muhlenberg County. He retired as a coal miner after 29 years from Gibraltar Coal Mines and was a member of Cherry Hill Baptist Church. He was a Blue Lodge Mason and a member of Hazel Creek Lodge No. 842, Scottish Rite and Rizpah Shriners Temple. He was a Korean War veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Foley Kipling, in 1999; a son, Robert E. Kipling III; and his parents, Robert E. and Pearl Baker Kipling.

Survivors include two sons, Robert E. IV (Robby and Sue) Kipling and Richard L. (Ricky and Mary Jane) Kipling, all of Central City; three grandchildren, Debra Ann Kipling, Adam Kipling and Jordan Kipling, all of Central City; five step grandchildren; a brother, Earl C. Kipling of White Plains; three sisters, Merle Barnes, Margaret Christ and Kathleen Robards; and a special friend, Mildred Pannell.

Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with the Rev. Gene Gardner officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Central City. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home. Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. today.
