Charles Wendell Hulsey Jr.

Charles Wendell Hulsey Jr., 56, of Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Owensboro, passed away Friday, July 15, 2005. Charlie was a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners and had over 25 years experience in land planning, civil engineering and architecture. He was vice president and director of planning and landscape architecture for the WLB group. He was also a member and past board member of the Arizona Planning Association. Charlie was preceded in death by a son, Charles Wendell Hulsey III; and his parents, Charles Wendell Hulsey Sr. and Rose Alice Bristow Hulsey.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Nancy White Hulsey; a son, Wesley Grant Hulsey, at home; one sister, Alice Shelton of Philpot; two brothers, Tom Hulsey of Philpot and Don Hulsey of Utica; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held in Tucson. Memorial contributions may be made to Beacon Group, 25 E. Drachman, Tucson, AZ 87505. Local information submitted by Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home.

Arthur Lee Chandler

Arthur Lee Chandler, 66, of Greenville died Friday at 11:01 p.m. at Owensboro Medical Health System following a short illness. He was born in Muhlenberg County on Oct. 2, 1938, the son of Henry Clay Chandler and Gola F. Lear Chandler. He was a farmer in the Greenbriar Church neighborhood and attended Olive Grove General Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Chandler of Greenville; one son, Michael (Melissa) Chandler of Greenville; three grandchildren, Dustin Chandler, Brittany Chandler and Bailey Chandler, all of Greenville; one brother, Kenneth Chandler of Clifty; five sisters, Genevial Scott of Elkton, Barbara Wells of Lewisburg, Margie Wells of Greenville, Bonnie Wilson of Pembroke and Wanda Anderson of Greenville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, July 25, 2005, at 2 p.m. from Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville by the Rev. Richard Day. Burial will be in Greenbriar cemetery. Friends may call between 5 and 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Anna Lee Arnold Tyler

Anna Lee Arnold Tyler, 93, formerly of 107 E. 17th St., Owensboro, died Friday, July 22, 2005, at Hermitage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Owensboro. She was born May 13, 1912, in Daviess County to the late Frank and Iva Lou (Berry) Arnold. She was a homemaker and worked with her husband at Sherman Tyler Brick Contractors Inc. She was a member of Walnut Memorial Baptist Church where she was a member of the Faithful Bible Study Sunday school class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Tyler, on Sept. 28, 1976.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sherlene Ann and Kenneth Maziarka of LaGrange, Ill.; two grandchildren, Pamela Ann (Joseph) Woith and Michael Tyler (Elizabeth) Maziarka; three great-grandchildren, Renae Sherlene Woith, Kyle Wesley Woith and Mason Edward Maziarka; two sisters, Edith Wilson and Geneva Gaddis, both of Owensboro; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Services are at 10 a.m. Monday, July 25, 2005, at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Mount Zion Church cemetery in Daviess County. Visitation is from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Daviess County Diabetes Coalition, P.O. Jackie Wayne Smith

CLEATON - Jackie Wayne Smith, 60, of Cleaton died Friday, July 22, 2005, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. He had worked as a laborer in coal mines.

Survivors include three daughters, Glenda Harris, Sherry Rust and April Mosley; two brothers, Eugene Smith and Sammy Smith; and two sisters, Dodie Evitts and Juanita Edwards.

Services: 2 p.m. Sunday at Price Funeral Home in Lewisburg. Burial: Mount Moriah Church of Christ cemetery in Muhlenberg County. Visitation: After 5 tonight and after 8 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Louie Mitchell Horn

Louie Mitchell Horn, 66, of Kentucky 1389, Owensboro, died Thursday, July 21, 2005, at his home. He was born Sept. 28, 1938, to the late Junius and James Goebel Roberts Horn in Daviess County. He was a truck driver and heavy equipment operator working with several local companies. He was a member of Yellow Creek Baptist Church, Daviess County Fish and Game and enjoyed woodworking crafts, bingo, playing cards and sitting on his swing.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene and Harold Horn; two sisters, Maxine Keir and Betty Walker; and a grandson, Johnathon Dale Boyle.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Barbara Hamilton Horn; three sons, Edward Mitchell Horn and his wife Janet of Owensboro, Barry Dwayne Horn and his wife Brenda of Owensboro and Michael Ray Horn and his fiancee, Michelle Howard of Owensboro; three daughters, Bonnie McKannan and her husband Frank of Maceo, Robin Marie Basham and her husband Bill of Maceo and Gay Boyle and her husband Roger of Owensboro; 11 grandchildren, Forest, Austin and Felecia McKannan, Carolyn and Crystal Basham, Bradley, Kim, Lynn, Travis and Katie Horn and Andrew Boyle; three stepgrandchildren, James, Debra and Timothy Boyle; six great-grandchildren, Sierra, MaKayla and Beau McKannan, Chloe Sanders, Elizabeth Basham and Kelby Horn; one brother, Bobby Ray Horn of Owensboro; two sisters, Gay Taylor of Philpot and Linda Coleman of Jena, La.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home with burial in Yellow Creek cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today, from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 333 Guthrie St., Suite 207, Louisville, KY 40202.

Joseph William 'Sun Down' Harris Sr.

GREENVILLE - Joseph William "Sun Down" Harris Sr., 78, of 411 Hayes St., Greenville, died at 9:45 p.m. Thursday, July 21, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born July 4, 1927, in Webster County and was a retired coal miner, an Army veteran and a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet in 2003; and his parents, Ned and Myrtle Bradley Harris.

Survivors include a son, Joseph William Harris Jr. (Kim) of Greenville; a daughter, Ellen Thomas (Charles) of Greenville; grandchildren, Jennifer and Jon Skaggs of Alvaton, Jaclyn Thomas of Lexington, Derrick Harris, Tyler Harris and Colin Harris, all of Greenville; stepgrandchildren, Eric Montgomery and Alyssa Montgomery, both of Greenville; great-grandchildren, Avery Meredith Skaggs of Alvaton and Aiden Harris of Greenville; two sisters, Irene Nunley of Henderson and Sue Harper of West Virginia; and a brother-in-law, Robert Dixon of Florence, Ala.

Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Dr. Arthur Burrows Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in Greenville. Imogene Cooper

Imogene Cooper, 78, of 1000 Kentucky 1554, Stanley, died at 6:38 p.m. Thursday, July 21, 2005, at Bon Harbor Nursing Home. She was born May 23, 1927, in Hancock County and was a homemaker and a member of People's Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and cooking and was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mayme Patterson Roberts; a brother, David Clifton Roberts; and a daughter, Frances Lee Cooper.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Malcolm Cooper; three sons, David Cooper, Terry Cooper and Dennis Cooper, all of Owensboro; seven daughters, Ruby Adkins, Brenda Aull, Sandra Adkins, Debbie Snowden, Patricia Peay, Connie Casteel and Donna Cooper, all of Owensboro; 21 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Mary Cooper, Margaret Cox, Martha Faye Roberts, Hazel Mattingly and Thelma Sue Cox, all of Owensboro; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Tim Russ officiating. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from noon until 1:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Ella Mae Clark

Ella Mae Clark, 85, of Bellemeade Nursing Center in Greenville died there at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2005. She was born March 28, 1920, in Muhlenberg County and was a homemaker and a member of Beechmont Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Samuel Clark; a son, Desmel Faye Clark; and a grandson, Jeffrey Harold Knight.

Survivors include two sons, Paul Keith Clark of Topeka, Kan., and Larry Wayne Clark of Penrod; three daughters, Deborah Ann Thurman of Centreville, Va., Vicki Lynn Stover of Decatur, Ala., and Bernice Mae Millard of Paducah; eight grandchildren, Paul Wesley Thurman, Michael Gregory Thurman, Tonya Michele Stover, Stephanie Lynn Langley, Andrea Leigh Horst, Tracy Marie Knight, Stacy Leigh Gibson and Brooke Leann Lambert; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services are at 11 a.m. today at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home with Mr. Darrell Puryear officiating. Burial will be in Mount Moriah cemetery in Muhlenberg County.

Henry Bruce Morgan

LAWRENCEBURG - Henry Bruce Morgan, 47, of Lawrenceburg died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, at his residence following a short illness. He is the son of Henry and Joan Miller Morgan of Utica. He was a native of Owensboro. He was a chief deputy for the Kentucky State Fire Marshal's Office.

He is also survived by his wife of 26 years, Cathy McGaughey Morgan; a daughter, Natalie Jane Morgan of Lexington; a son, Nathan Earl Morgan of Lawrenceburg; his father-in-law, Earl McGaughey of Lawrenceburg; a sister, Christina May Morgan of Sevierville, Tenn.; and two nephews, Chad and Adam Logsdon of Utica.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 8, at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home in Lawrenceburg. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today. Masonic rites will be held at 7:30 p.m. this evening. Mr. Morgan will be cremated following services. Memorial contributions are suggested to Bruce Morgan Memorial Fund, c/o Mr. Tom Blakeman, 505 Derek Drive, Elizabethtown, KY 42701.

Helen Taylor

JACKSON, Tenn. - Helen Taylor died peacefully at Northbrooke Health Care Center in Jackson on Sept. 8, 2004. She was born Dec. 12, 1909, at No Creek, daughter of William Wayne and Etta Pirtle. Mrs. Taylor lived most of her life at 1110 Parrish Ave., Owensboro where she operated a furrier business for many years. She was a member of Woodlawn Methodist Church. She resided at One Park Place her last 12 years in Owensboro before moving to Jackson to be near her nephew, Eddie Wayne Barrass. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil F. Taylor; parents; and sisters, Ann Barrass Phillips of Hartford, Charlotte Breeden of Pearce, Ariz., Lydia Haynes and Ruth Fox of St. Petersburg, Fla.

John Wesley Stirsman

John Wesley Stirsman, 64, of 1230 Concord Terrace, Owensboro died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004, at his home. He was a retired insurance sales representative for AIG Insurance for 38 years. Mr. Stirsman was a member of YMCA for 25 years and won numerous awards with AIG. He was a member of First General Baptist Church and enjoyed attending Bridgepointe Baptist Church. His interests were his love of his wife, children and grandchildren and traveling, walking and helping underprivileged families. A native of Greenville, born to the late Glen and Jessie Stirsman, he was also preceded in death by four brothers, Lawrence, Andrew, William Glen Jr. and Leamon Earle Stirsman.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Glenda Evitts Stirsman; daughters, Tammy Stirsman Leach and husband Steve of Lexington and Gena Stirsman Boling of Owensboro; grandchildren, Tyler and Tara Hagan of Lexington, Jonathan Shacklett and Bryson Boling of Owensboro; and stepgrandchildren, Blake Leach of Pensacola, Fla., and Arthur Leach of Hartford; his brothers, Willie G. Stirsman of Central City and Elmon Ray Stirsman of Evansville; sisters, Ina Meeks of Salinas, Calif., Inez Evitts and Shirley Stirsman of Greenville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held, Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Glenn Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after noon Sunday. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in Greenville. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Lupus Foundation, A Christmas Wish or Bridgepointe Church.

John Truman 'J.T.' Whitaker

John Truman "J.T." Whitaker, 83, of Owensboro died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born April 26, 1921, in Daviess County to the late Margaret and Jay Whitaker. He was the owner of the Rolling Pin Pastry Shop for 37 years, retiring in 1983, a member of the Owensboro Cumberland Presbyterian Church, a 50-year member of the Live Wire Bible class, where he served in several offices, and a Navy veteran of World War II. John was also a member of American Legion Post 9 and TPA Post G and a former member of Moose and Eagle lodges, a Kentucky Colonel and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. A daughter, Jackie Aubrey; and two sisters, Sally Byrd and Billie Jagoe, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mary Edith Whitaker; a son, John David and his wife, Debbie, Whitaker of Owensboro; and three daughters, Mary Ann Stinebruner of Louisville, Janie and her husband, Bob Carrico of Knottsville and Kathy and her husband, Roger Farmer of Owensboro; and a sister, Hazel Young of Panther. Grandchildren include Bill Clark Jr., Lisa (Todd) Brown and Brian Payne of Louisville, Blake (Colleen) Payne of Richmond, Jennifer Fischer of Winchester, Nathan (Rachel) Whitaker of Lexington, Phillip Aubrey, Nick, Travis and Katie Whitaker, and Leslie and Gregory Farmer, all of Owensboro. Great-grandchildren include Damien Cox and Ambria Gaus, both of Louisville.

Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tim McGuire officiating. Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after noon Saturday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to HELP Office Mission, c/o Owensboro Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 910 Booth Ave., Owensboro, KY 42301.
