Helen Louise Foster Vincent

DANVILLE - Helen Louise Foster Vincent, 89, of Danville, formerly of Central City, died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005, at Charleston Health Care Center in Danville. She was born on Oct. 24, 1915, in Glasgow, daughter of the late Clem Foster and Lucy Belle Slaughter Foster. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Danville and a former member of First Baptist Church of Central City, where she visited the homebound for the church. She was a graduate of the Owensboro Beauty College and a licensed beautician and the former owner of Helen's Beauty Shop in Central City. She was a certified welder and during World War II she worked at the shipyards in Evansville, welding LST landing ships for the Navy.
She is survived by her daughter, Vicki Sparks of Danville and her husband, Marlin; two grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
The funeral service will be at 4 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Danville, with the Rev. J. Timothy Mathis officiating. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church cemetery in Central City. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. The family requests that donations be sent to the First Baptist Church Building Fund in Danville or Central City.
Margaret Atkinson Wilson

Margaret Atkinson Wilson, 92, of One Park Place, Owensboro, died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005. She was born on June 26, 1913, in Winston-Salem, N.C., to the late William Edward Atkinson and Florence Utter Atkinson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Richard "Bullet" Wilson, former head coach, athletic director and professor of physical education at Kentucky Wesleyan College. She was a member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church and formerly worked at Central Bank and Trust Co. and Owensboro National Bank. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, William Edward Atkinson Jr., Charles Allen Atkinson and Thomas Utter Atkinson; and two sisters, Virginia Whitlow and Mary Lee.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, R. Allen and Beulah Wilson and William B. and Nancy Wilson; five grandchildren, Melissa Jane Bucker (Zach) of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Robert Allen Wilson Jr. (Stephanie) of Atlanta, and William Shane Wilson (Barbara), Wade Richard Wilson and Jessica Lee Wilson, all of Owensboro; and five great-grandchildren, Zachary Buckner and Robert Wilson Buckner of Myrtle Beach, Price Robert Wilson and Bennett Allen Wilson of Atlanta and William Hayden Wilson of Owensboro.
Services are private and will be held at Elmwood cemetery in Owensboro. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Kentucky Wesleyan College and the Robert "Bullet" Wilson Football Field. James H. Davis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Hobert Ferguson

CENTRAL CITY - Hobert Ferguson, 80, of Jacksonville, Fla., formerly of Central City, died Friday, Sept. 2, 2005, at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville. He was born on July 16, 1925, in Muhlenberg County and spent his early childhood there until moving to Chicago. He lived most of his life in the Chicago area before retiring to Florida in 1996. Mr. Ferguson was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Eldora (Draper) Ferguson; his three children, Linda Ferguson, Karen (Caliendo) Ferguson and James Randall Ferguson; and many other family and friends.
"Hobie" leaves behind to cherish his memory a brother, O.V. Ferguson; and two grandchildren, Lisa (Michael) Smith and Don (Bobbie) Caliendo.
He was an extremely kind and generous man who knew no strangers, and was well known for his big smile and amazing sense of humor. He touched many people throughout his life and will be sorely missed. Mr. Ferguson served proudly in the U.S. Navy during World War II, before returning home to start a business. He was an accomplished machinist and loved to work around his home, making improvements or gardening. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Fla. He was a devoted Christian and spent many an hour in prayer and Bible study.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Central City. Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Penelope Young Millican

CUPERTINO, Calif. - Penelope Young Millican, 84, died Monday, Aug. 8, 2005, at her home. She was born on Oct. 5, 1920, in Louisville to the late Bentley and Elizabeth (Evans) Young. She knew and loved Owensboro, having spent part of every summer here as a child visiting her great-grandmother, Mrs. Hamilton Alexander I, and grandmother, Mrs. Beauregard A. Evans. She always felt she had been blessed with a charmed life. She was devoted to her husband, family and many friends. She graduated from Highland Park High School in Dallas and attended Southern Methodist University, where she belonged to the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. She loved to entertain and traveled extensively several times each year throughout the world. She was a former Girl Scout leader, was professionally trained as a furniture upholsterer and for many years taught upholstery classes as a hobby. She also created beautiful needlepoint work. She was a longtime member of the National Society of Colonial Dames of America and the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church and belonged to the Christ Church Altar Guild in Los Altos, Calif., for well over 40 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Raymond Weir Millican, U.S. Army, Ret.; and a sister, Elizabeth Young Hawley.
She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Henry Berry (Dody) Payne of Owensboro; and two nephews, Bentley Young Brooks of Carson City, Nev., and Thomas Alexander Payne of Colorado Springs. Also surviving are four nieces, Dr. Elizabeth Brooks of Santa Monica, Calif., Dr. Jane Hawley Cooper of Rochester, Minn., Elizabeth Payne Sefton of Yoakum, Texas, and Penelope Payne of Washington, D.C.; and eight great-nieces and nephews.
A memorial services was held on Aug. 22 at her church in California. Private interment was held Sunday afternoon in Elmwood cemetery and attended by members of her family.
Wanda M. Dalpher Richards

Wanda M. Dalpher Richards, 76, of 1831 Foors Lane, Owensboro, passed away Sunday, Sept. 4, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born in Taffy to the late John and Daisy Hobbs Dalpher. She was a homemaker and a member of Fordsville Baptist Church. She had been a past member of Order of the Eastern Star and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Surviving is her son, Steve Cheek of Fordsville; two daughters, Sheila and her husband, Howard Sanders, and Nita Cheek, all of Owensboro; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Private services will be held. Glenn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Hollis Meloy Slaughter

BEECHMONT - Hollis Meloy Slaughter, 68, of Beechmont died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2005, at Jennie Stuart Medical Facility in Hopkinsville. He retired from Owensboro Municipal Utilities as a meter reader after 25 years and was a member of Horton's Chapel Church of Christ in Belton.
Survivors include his wife, Faith Talley Slaughter; two daughters, Kimberly Ann Slaughter and Holly Gail Goodwin; and two sisters, Junie Joines and Wilma Jean Joines.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home. Burial: Horton's Chapel Church cemetery in Belton. Visitation: After 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
L.J. Turley

CENTRAL CITY - L.J. Turley, 84, of 724 N. Third St., Central City, died at 8:50 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, 2005, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Nashville. He was born Aug. 10, 1921, in Muhlenberg County, was a 1940 graduate of Central City High School and had been the owner of Turley Transfer Co. since 1949. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and had been a member of Central City First United Methodist Church for 70 years. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Masonic Lodge, a Shriner and a member of Rizpah Temple. He was past president of the Muhlenberg County Fair Board, a member of Central City Lions Club, past president and board member of Kentucky Association of Fair and Horse Shows and past member of the Central City Council. He enjoyed rabbit hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Robards Turley of Central City; two sons, Lonnie and wife Kathy Turley and Rick and wife Lori Turley, all of Central City; a stepson, Eddie Mitchell of Central City; a stepdaughter, Danna and husband Ken Christman of Athens, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Marion Choyce Turley of Moyock, N.C.; and three sisters, Rebecca Peterson of Moline, Ill., Vivian McDonald of Waterloo, Ill., and Anna Stanley of Central City.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with the Rev. Jeff DiMatties officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Central City. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home. Masonic services will be at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. CALHOUN - Anna Nantz, 81, of Calhoun died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005, at Riverside Manor Health Care Center in Calhoun. She was a homemaker.

Ricky Newman Hall

Ricky Newman Hall, 47, of 5318 U.S. 60 East, Owensboro, went to be with the Lord Saturday,. Sept. 3, 2005, at his townhouse in Owensboro after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born April 7, 1958, in Daviess County. He worked for Modern Welding Co. for more than 20 years and recently worked in the maintenance department for Audubon Area Head Start. He was a member of the Baptist faith, enjoyed NASCAR, boating and working on his cars. He attended Western Kentucky University and always enjoyed helping others.
He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Newman Hall, in 1970; and his grandmother, Mary Reed, on Aug. 30, 2004.
Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Deborah Louise Hall; one son, Christopher Newman Hall of Owensboro; one daughter, Alexis Beth Hall of Owensboro; one grandson, Alexander Morgan; his parents, Paul and Virginia Ezell of Hawesville; two brothers, Josh Hall of Columbia, S.C., and Max Ezell of Pleasant Ridge; two sisters, Jeana Draper of Bowling Green and Gracie Payne of Owensboro; and many friends and co-workers.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home with burial in Rosehill cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Freda M. Wahl

Freda M. Wahl, 78, of 2649 Windsor Ave., Owensboro, died Thursday, Sept. 1, 2005, at her home. She was born in Phelps County, Mo., to the late Willie and Cliffie (Rock) Baldwin. She retired as a ward clerk for Owensboro-Daviess County Hospital and was a member of Wesleyan Heights United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred S. Wahl, on Sept. 17, 1994; three brothers, Shelby Baldwin, Ernest Baldwin and Ronda Baldwin; and two sisters, Anyce Brown and Nita Jo Baldwin.
She is survived by her children, Ray and Kathy Lee and Larry and Suzanne Lee, all of Owensboro, and Linda and Jim Bakel of Evansville; eight grandchildren, Nicole Moss, Katherine Sims, Amanda Lee, Jason Lee, Rachael Lee, Matt Lee, Christa Clark and Jamie Shemwell; five great-grandchildren, Michael Moss, Sarah Moss, Chloe Sims, Gracie Roberts and Jaxon Clark; three stepdaughters, Faye Shelton of Owensboro, Judith Ann Miller of Nashville and Jacquline Kies of Campbell, N.Y.; 10 stepgrandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; a niece, Judy Shaver; and a nephew, Kenneth Baldwin.
Services are at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 4, 2005, at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Sunnyside cemetery in Beaver Dam. Visitation is from 3 to 7 p.m. today and from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at James H. Davis Funeral Home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the American Red Cross to help the victims of hurricane Katrina.
Robert Wyndell "Spud" Shutt

Robert Wyndell "Spud" Shutt, 67, of 5104 Jones Road, Owensboro, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2005, at his home. He was born in Muhlenberg County to the late Connie D. and Ruby Atkison Shutt. He was retired after 38 years with Modern Supply Co. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and was a member of Thruston United Methodist Church. He enjoyed all sports, reading and military history. He also had been a member of Alcoholics Anonymous for the past 20 years. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ailene Shutt; and two brothers, his twin, Charles Shutt, and J.D. Shutt.
Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Tommy Bunner Shutt; a son, John Shutt of Lexington; two daughters, Jane and her husband, Colburn, Clark and Meg Shutt, all of Owensboro; a granddaughter, Campbell Clark; a grandson, Thomas Wilkey; two brothers, John L. and wife, Ellie, Shutt of Greenville and Terry and his wife, Doris, Shutt of Owensboro; three sisters, Martha DeArmond and Kay Shutt, both of Greenville, and Doris Smith of Philpot; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 4, at Glenn Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after noon Sunday at the funeral home.
