Cletus L. Moseby

TROY, Ind. - Cletus L. Moseby, 81, of Troy died at 7:50 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, 2005, at Perry County (Ind.) Memorial Hospital from complications of an automobile accident that occurred in March 2005. He was born Oct. 7, 1923, in Tell City, Ind.

First and foremost he was a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was married on Feb. 9, 1943, in Tell City to Ruby Verlee Snider. Professionally he was a boilermaker and retired in 1973 from Union Tank in East Chicago, Ind., and then retired from Commercial Filters in 1989 as a maintenance mechanic. Cletus was a member of the Methodist church and was in the choir. He was an Eagle Scout, Boy Scout Leader, volunteer rescuer during the 1937 Perry County Flood and enjoyed fishing and traveling. During Word War II he took pride serving his country as burner/fitter on the LST's built at the Evansville Ship Yard. His family and activities in his community were his great successes. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Ruby Verlee (Snider) Moseby of Tell City; one son, Charles A. (Chuck) Moseby of Tell City; two daughters, M. Darleen Ward and husband Dr. Robert, and Darla Templin and husband David all of Tell City; nine grandchildren, Lee and Deanna (Heeke) Moseby of Monroe, N.C., Jeffery Moseby of Tell City, Michael and Melissa (Taylor) Cameron of Newburgh, Ind., Christopher Taylor of Evansville, Scott and Rebecca (Taylor) Thomas of Cannelton, Ind., Amanda Templin of Cannelton, Darryl (DJ) and Adrienne (Templin) Roland of Fort Worth, Texas and David Templin of Tell City; 14 great-grandchildren, Brice and Breanne Moseby, Chase Moseby, Katherine and Samuel Cameron, Alexia, Cassandra, Victoria and Colton Thomas, Shawn and Tyler Roland, Kyla King, Ethan and Eli Moseby; one brother, Gary Moseby and wife Arlene of Seabring, Fla.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Rusty (Schroeder) Moseby of Bossier City, La., Robert and G. Eileen (Thompson) Snyder of Troy, Willard and Wilma (Snider) Jones of Pikeville, Tenn., Jim and Zelma (Snider) Fuchs of Evanston, Ind., Eva (Snider) Wittman of Troy and Darryl and Eileen (Snider) Talbott; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Irving Lester and Elsie Pearl (Albin) Moseby; one sister, Anna Lee Isom and husband Bedford; one brother, Robert L. Moseby; and one grandson: Aaron Moseby.

Services are at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 29, at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home in Tell City with the Rev. Bill Reid and the Rev. Milton Pledger officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery in Tell City. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association.

Mary Carolyn Ziegler Kurz

Mary Carolyn Ziegler Kurz, 68, passed away Friday, Aug. 12, 2005. She and her husband John H. (Jack) Kurz moved to Scottsdale, Ariz., in 1970. Carolyn was a native of Owensboro, a graduate of St. Joseph Infirmary School of Nursing and Spalding University in Louisville and worked as an RN before moving to Scottsdale. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and over the years volunteered for a number of organizations, but was especially devoted to the care of her family, both in Kentucky and Arizona. She was preceded in death by her only brother, the Rev. Anthony Ziegler.

She is survived by her husband, Jack Kurz; a daughter, Martha M. Kaiser and her husband, Paul; and three grandchildren, Erin, Nathan and Sarah Kaiser.

A memorial Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. The family suggests a donation to a favorite charity or to Carolyn's: Friends of the Orphans, P.O. Box 25507, Tempe, AZ 85258-5507. Arrangements are by Messinger Indian School Mortuary in Scottsdale.

Orville Himes

HARTFORD - Orville Himes, 92, of Hartford, died at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, 2005, at Professional Care Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hartford. He was born April 13, 1913, in Ohio County to the late John Robert Himes and Charlotte Hamlett Himes. He retired from Ohio County Hospital Maintenance and was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II and had served in the South Pacific. He was a member of Hartford United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of American Legion Post 55 in Ohio County, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1543 in Hartford and VETS Post 117.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce "Dottie" Leach Himes of Hartford; four sons, Paul Himes and wife Shirley of Beaver Dam, Lynn L. Himes and wife Elaine of Hartford, Roger Himes and wife Patricia of Hartford and George Himes and wife Pamela of Owensboro; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Beatrice Himes Bratcher of Hartford.

Services are at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery in Hartford with full military honors. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Ohio County Veterans Museum, Box 44, Hartford, KY 42347.

Pansy Rhea Gray

Pansy Rhea Gray, 82, of 514 Bethel Place, Greenville, died at 6:39 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, 2005, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. She was born Jan. 28, 1923, in Muhlenberg County and was homemaker and member of Second Baptist Church in Greenville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lois Gray; her parents, William and Irene Durall; and a brother, Lyndell Durall.

Survivors include three sons, Daniel Gray of Portage, Ill., Fred Gray of Lake Mills, Wis., and Ronald Gray of Owensboro; a daughter, Pam Huff of Greenville; nine grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; one great-grandchild; three stepgreat-grandchildren; two brothers, Gerald Durall of New Carlile, Ohio, and Whipple Durall of Weir; and two sisters, Bonnie Beard of Naples, Fla., and Faye Brown of Wildwood, Fla.

Services are at 2 p.m. Monday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Dr. Ray England officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Central City. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Bernine Moore Slaughter

CENTRAL CITY - Bernine Moore Slaughter, 99, of Central City died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005, at her home. She retired as a nurse from the state of Ohio and was a member of South Carrollton Methodist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Grace Martin.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial: Island Methodist Church cemetery. Visitation: From 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Catherine 'Kay' Gray

CENTRAL CITY - Catherine "Kay" Gray, 76, of Central City died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. She was a homemaker and a member of Woodson Baptist Church in Powderly.

Survivors include a son, Joey Gray; and three daughters, Linda Griffin, Terri Griffin and Rita Gray.

Services: 1 p.m. Sunday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial: Rose Hill cemetery in Central City. Visitation: After 5 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Wavie E. Goff

BEAVER DAM - Wavie E. Goff, 83, of Beaver Dam died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born March 13, 1922, in Ohio County to the late John and Mary Atchinson Goff and was a retired pipefitter from Green River Steel Co. in Owensboro. He was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church and an Army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Martine Tanner Goff, on Sept. 11, 1998.

Survivors include two sons, Eddie and wife Linda Goff of Beaver Dam and Billy Goff of Dallas; two sisters, Imogene Small of Beaver Dam and Dorothy Wilkerson of Owensboro; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services are at 11 a.m. today at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam with the Rev. Jesse Tichenor officiating. Burial will be in Render Memorial cemetery in McHenry. Visitation will be after 9 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Joe Dell Chambers

BUTTONSBERRY - Joe Dell Chambers, 72, of P.O. Box 125, Island, died at 11:50 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born Oct. 28, 1932, in Island and was a retired blender operator from Life Saver Candy Co. in Holland, Mich. He was a member of Station Baptist Church in Sacramento and was preceded in death by his parents, Shultie and Ines Taylor Chambers; and brothers Hugh Bryant, Elvis, Wayne and Jerry Chambers.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Mae Meschke Chambers; a son, Johnny (Dreama) Chambers of Hartford; a daughter, Delores (Butch) Guill of Beechmont; two stepdaughters, Ruth (Dennis) Amsink and Helen (Victor) Duff, all of Holland, Mich.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Abbie Chambers of Hanson, Donnie Chambers of Madisonville and Pete Chambers of California; and a sister, Vivian Hartman of Holland, Mich.

Services are at 11 a.m. Friday at Tucker Memorial Chapel in Sacramento with the Rev. Leslie Moody Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Station Baptist Church cemetery in Sacramento. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Lottie Mae Blocker

CENTRAL CITY - Lottie Mae Blocker, 93, of Central City died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2005, at Belle Meade Nursing Center in Greenville. She was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Central City.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Thompson, and a sister, Gweneth Deering.

Graveside services: 1 p.m. today at Rose Hill cemetery in Central City. Visitation: After 11 a.m. today at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City.

Mary 'Julie' Beam Cross

LOUISVILLE - Mary "Julie" Beam Cross, 48, of Louisville died Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System, following a brief struggle with cancer. She was born on May 22, 1957, in Owensboro and was a member of First Baptist Church. Julie graduated from Owensboro High School in 1975 and attended Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville, Fla. She worked in property management in Louisville and Lexington.

She is survived by a sister, Nancy (Ralph) Mollett of Owensboro; a brother, Johnny Beam of Owensboro; her mother, Vivien Beam of Lexington; her father and stepmother, John E. "Jack" (Linda) Beam of Owensboro; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved golden retriever, Lizzie.

Services are at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at James H. Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Burial is in Pleasant Grove cemetery in Sorgho. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday and after noon Friday at James H. Davis Funeral Home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Daviess County Animal Shelter, 2620 Kentucky 81, Owensboro, KY 43201.

Kevin Thomas Filbeck

BENTON - Kevin Thomas Filbeck, 37, of 273 Vanzora Road, Benton, died at 12:41 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005, at University of North Carolina Medical Center in Chapel Hill, N.C. He was a member of Oak Level United Methodist Church in Benton and a computer systems manager. He was a graduate of Marshall County High School and the University of Kentucky with a bachelor of science degree in computer information systems. He was preceded in death by a brother, Kerry Filbeck.

He is survived by his father, Donald Filbeck of Benton; his mother, Peggy Chambers Filbeck of Benton; a brother, Dr. Kent Filbeck of Owensboro; a niece, Ashley Filbeck of Owensboro; and a nephew, Alex Filbeck of Owensboro.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, at Collier Funeral Home chapel in Benton. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home. The Rev. Ronnie Lear and the Rev. Joe D. Thorn will officiate. Burial will be in Benton cemetery. The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Kerry and Kevin Filbeck Scholarship Fund, c/o The Bank of Benton, P.O. Box 467 Benton, KY 42025.

Marie K. Hoesli

TELL CITY, Ind. - Marie K. Hoesli, 96, passed away at 7:08 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, at Oakwood Health Campus in Tell City. Marie was born Nov. 30, 1908, in Perry County, Ind., the daughter of the late Frank and Emily (Cassidy) Kluesner. She married Clarence E. Hoesli on Jan. 25, 1927, in Tell City. Clarence passed away in 1991. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Diane Hoesli in 1953, and Marilyn Heckel in 1994; three sons, James in 1979, Robert in 1991, and Patrick in 1993; and a grandson, Randy Hoesli. Also preceding her in death were three sisters, Oma Goffinet, Clara Schaefer and Zita Hall; and seven brothers, Andrew, Frank, Edward, Jesse, Hilary, Nick and John Kluesner. Marie retired in 1969 from General Electric in Tell City, where she was an inspector for 23 years. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, St. Ann Sodality and Daughters of Isabella Nativity Circle No. 710. Marie enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting and, especially, spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by four daughters, Linda Parks and her husband, Tom, of Mesa, Ariz., June Kress and her husband, Ron, of Austin, Texas, Mary Anderson and her husband, Arthur, of Tell City and Victoria Johnson and her husband, Ray, of Owensboro; six sons, Ted Hoesli and his wife, Margie, of Buffaloville, Ind., Jerry Hoesli and his wife, Gail, of Tell City, Larry Hoesli and his wife, Susan, of Mission Viejo, Calif., John Hoesli and his wife, Patricia, Tell City, Michael Hoesli and his wife, Nancy, of Festus, Mo., and Steve Hoesli and his wife, Gloria, of Tell City; 50 grandchildren, Monie Anderson, Rick Hoesli, Kevin Hoesli, Robin Goffinet, Tony Hoesli, Connie Bishop, Danny Hoesli, Cathy Elmendorf, David Hoesli, Debbie Cunningham, Becky Bradley, Pam Holman, Robyn Meeks, Tammy Vonderheide, Dawna Powell, Chris Hoesli, Mike Hoesli, Patty Cassidy, Ted Hoesli, Kathy Wiltbank, Beth Lester, Pat Parks, Mike Parks, Quinn Hoesli, Todd Hoesli, Diane Adkins, Shane Hoesli, Michelle Garibay, Ron Kress, Jeff Kress, Tim Kress, Melissa Engeling, Matt Kress, Gina Foerstel, Tamara Rood, Larry Hoesli, Jonathon Hoesli, Holly Peter, Andy Hoesli, Bryan Hoesli, Kelly Otec, Amanda Hoesli, Steven Hoesli, Dr. Kerry Ettensohn, Ryan Hoesli, Greg George, Ange Lee Pruitt, Lewis Anderson, Audrie Randolph and Chasity Durbin; 93 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at St. Paul Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary cemetery in Tell City. The Rev. Columba Kelly, OSB, will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Friday at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City chapel, where there will be a joint prayer and Daughters of Isabella memorial service at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Catholic Church.
