Lloyd Tompkins

SLAUGHTERS, Ky. — Lloyd Tompkins, 68, died Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, at his home from cardio-respiratory failure.

He retired as an electrician, working in construction.

He was a Korean War Navy veteran and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5484.

He was a member of the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Jean (Cash); three daughters, Nina Jo and Celeste Ann Tompkins, both of Slaughters, and Chrystal Daulton of Fort Leonard, Mo.; and two granddaughters, Dorothy Celeste and Samantha Todd Daulton.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Harris Funeral Home, with burial in Mount Pleasant cemetery, with military rites.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

William Baird

STURGIS, Ky. — William R. Baird, 75, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at Methodist Hospital in Morganfield.

He was the founder of Saturn Machine & Welding Co.

He was a World War II Army veteran.

Surviving are a daughter, Vicki Hall of Sturgis; a son, Bill of Sturgis; five brothers, Harold of Lakeland, Fla., Bobby, Ed and Norval, all of Sturgis, and John C. of Elizabethtown; and three grandchildren, Jill and Zane Baird and Ty Hall.

His wife, Millie, died in 1998.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Whitsell Funeral Home, with burial in Pythian Ridge cemetery.

Friends may call from 3:30 to 9 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Lee Tillerson

HENDERSON, Ky. — Lee A. Tillerson, 87, died, Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at the McCurdy Health Care Center.

He retired from Swift Packing Co.

He was on the board of trustees at the New Race Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving are three sisters, La Verne Kirby of Fort Wayne, Ind., Myrtle Pointer and Bertha Mae Roberson, both of Chicago; a brother, Stanley of Henderson; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the New Race Creek Baptist Church, with burial in Fernwood cemetery.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to service time at the church.

Mason Bros. Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Marion Thomas

HENDERSON, Ky. — Marion Paul “P.T.” Thomas, 77, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evanville.

He had taught carpentry at the Henderson Vocational School and served on the vocational advisory committee.

He was a past member of the Henderson County school board, past president of Kentucky Elks Association, past secretary of the Elks Lodge, member of the Henderson Country Club, serving as treasurer of the Men’s Association.

He coached the Henderson All-Star Little League, which won the State World Series and played in the National Playoffs. He was recently inducted into the Hall of Fame for his contribution to the Little League organization.

He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Temple and was a Kentucky Colonel.

Surviving are his wife, Mildred R.; a daughter, Patricia Hogan of Henderson; a stepdaughter, Sandy Haynes of Henderson; a son, Michael of Morganfield; a stepson, Steven Schwallier of Henderson; a sister, Evelyn Brown of Evansville; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home, with burial in Fernwood cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today, from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 am. to service time at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Elks Lodge 206 Scholarship Fund.

Sonny Bryant

HENDERSON, Ky. — Sonny “Cagey” Bryant, 59, of Spottsville, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, in an automobile accident on U.S. 60.

He was a member of the Elks 206 in Henderson. He was a Kentucky Colonel.

Surviving are two stepsons, Randy Rousseau of Florida and Danny Daughtery of Henderson; a sister, Jolene Buley of Henderson; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home, with burial pending.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Bill Rone

SACRAMENTO, Ky. — Bill Rone, 72, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at his home of an apparent heart attack.

He retired after 36 years from the Texas Gas Transmission Corp. of Owensboro and was the owner and operator of the Sacramento Pay Lake.

He was a member of the Sacramento Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Kathryn (Moorman); four daughters, Karen Kirtley of Bowling Green, Sandra Rone of Owensboro, Mary Rone Nally and Allison Rone Phillips, both of Sacramento; three sons, Ronald and Steven, both of Owensboro, and William of Sacramento; four sisters, Adeen Miller of Sacramento, Carol Rone and Jana Detiz, both of Owensboro, and Fran Raymer of Dophan, Ala.; three brothers, Donald and George, both of Owensboro, and Bobby of Kershaw, S.C.; 14 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sacramento Baptist Church, with burial in Sacramento Cumberland Presbyterian cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to service time at the church.

Muster Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church building fund or cemetery.

Daisy Powers

HAWESVILLE, Ky. — Daisy Powers, 82, formerly of Hawesville, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at the Heartland Villa in Lewisport.

She was the former owner of the Kentucky Cardinal Restaurant and had worked at the Breeze Inn Restaurant, Kozy Kitchen Restaurant and Bill’s IGA in Hawesville.

She was a member of the Central Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband of 66 years, Johnnie; a daughter, Emma Jean Jasper of Tell City, Ind.; three sons, Billy Joe, Pascal and Gary, all of Hawesville; a sister, Eva Ellen Meserve of Hawesville; nine grandchildren; three step grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, with burial in Serenity Hills.

Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Paul Hagan

WAVERLY, Ky. — Paul M. “Dude” Hagan, 79, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, Tenn., from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Oct. 31.

He was the co-owner and operator of Hagan’s Market in Waverly for 45 years.

He was a World War II Army veteran and member of the Knights of Columbus.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Louise; three daughters, Nancy Crump and Helene French, both of Morganfield, and Rita Mills of Waverly; two sons, Kenny of Detroit and Raymond of Waverly; a sister, Loretta Girten of Henderson; two brothers, Joe and Billy of Waverly; 13 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to service time at the Whitsell Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church or St. Anthony’s Hospice.

Jimmie James

MORTONS GAP, Ky. — Jimmie James, 91, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at the Senior Citizens Nursing Home in Madisonville.

He retired from the Iron & Wire Works in Chicago.

He was a member of the Salem Missionary Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Jo (Prince); four daughters, Barbara Woodyard of Valparaiso, Ind., Sharon Lloyd of Greenville, Marie James of Mortons Gap and Joann Downs of Barnsley; a sister, Edna Morgan of Madisonville; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Reid-Walters Funeral Home Earlington Chapel, with burial in Grapevine cemetery in Madisonville.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Jon Eric Wilson

HENDERSON, Ky. — Jon Eric Wilson, 35, formerly of Henderson, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Health System in Houston. He had liver disease.

Surviving are his wife, Diane; his father, Matt Wilson Sr. of Las Vegas; a sister, Tamara Gentry of Henderson; two brothers, Brian K. of Evansville and Matt Jr. of Henderson; his grandmother, Lillie West; and nieces and nephews.

A private family service will be held. Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
