Jewell Sigler

ROBARDS, Ky. — Jewell Sigler, 87, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at Colonial Terrace Nursing Home in Sebree.

She was a member of Cherry Hill Baptist Church for more than 60 years.

Surviving are two daughters, Betty Chappell of Corydon and Fay Rowland of Henderson; a brother, James Overby of Evansville; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Carl R., died in 1997.

Services will be at 1 p.m .Saturday at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home, with burial in Odd Fellows cemetery in Clay.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony’s Hospice or to Cherry Hill Baptist Church.

Robert Wilson

MADISONVILLE, Ky. — Robert H. “Shug” Wilson, 77, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at Regional Medical Center.

He retired from P&M; Coal Co. after 35 years of service.

He was a member of Mortons Gap Christian Church where he was an elder, Sunday school teacher and a youth leader.

He was a World War II Marine Corps veteran, serving in the South Pacific.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Martha (Nance); a daughter, Karen of Madisonville; a brother, James E. Jr. of Madisonville; a grandson, Jeremy; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home, with burial in Grapevine cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mortons Gap Christian Church Family Life Center.

James Powell

SEBREE, Ky. — James Basil Powell, 83, formerly of Sebree, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999, at Country Side Place in Mishawaka, Ind.

He owned and operated Powell Service Station and worked for the street department of Mishawaka. He was an Army veteran.

Surviving are nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday in the Springdale cemetery in Sebree.

Tompkins Funeral Home Sebree Poole Chapel is handling arrangements.

Val Smith

HENDERSON, Ky. — Val Edward Smith, 82, died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, at Deaconess Hospital.

He owned and managed Dixie Lou Frocks of Henderson, retiring in 1979.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge 206 and was a Kentucky Colonel.

Surviving are two grandchildren, Kyle McGee and Corey Nichols.

His wife, Lucille, died in 1975 and his daughter Gean Ann Nichols, died in 1996.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home, with burial in Fairmont cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

William Blankenship

DAWSON SPRINGS, Ky. — William Blankenship, 67, died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, at his home.

He was a demolition worker in Hopkinsville.

He was a Korean War veteran, serving in the Marines from 1951 through 1955.

He was a member of the Missionary Baptist Temple Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mary; three daughters, Wanda Jarvis of Dawson Springs, Elaine Oliver of Manchester, Tenn., and Peggy Blankenship of Andrews, N.C.; two stepdaughters, Sue Colemand of Rock Hill, S.C., and Peggy Trover of Dawson Springs; a son William Earl Jr. of Statesville, N.C.; four stepsons, Tony Johnson of Dawson Springs, Rodney and Rickey Johnson, both of Madisonville, and Donald Johnson of Earlington; his mother, Eula Hergis Murdaugh of Christian County; three brothers, James, Junior and John Fowler, all of Hopkinsville; 18 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a stepson, Rickey Whited.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Missionary Baptist Temple, with burial in Walnut Grove cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Beshear Funeral Home, and from 1 p.m. to service time at the church.

Dorothy Weaver

DAWSON SPRINGS, Ky. — Dorothy Lee Weaver, 67, died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, at Madisonville Regional Medical Center.

She had been a nurse’s aide.

Surviving are three daughters, Barbara Ann Sutton and Judy Faye Hopper, both of Dawson Springs, and Linda Sue Jones of Providence; three sons, David Wayne of Clay and Michael Junior and Bobby Dale, both of Dawson Springs; four sisters, Betty Clayton of White Plains, Linda Mason of Madisonville, Brenda Young and Wanda Evitts, both of Nebo; six brothers, Bobby and George Vincent, both of Nebo, Billy Ray Vincent of Manitou, Frankie Vincent of Providence, Carl Junior Vincent of Madisonville and Larry Vincent of Diamond; and 20 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Burton Weaver, in 1989 and a daughter.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Beshear Funeral Home, with burial in Piney Grove cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Hazel Evans

HENDERSON, Ky. — Hazel L. Evans, 93, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999, at her home.

She was a lifelong member of Immanuel Baptist Temple.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Evans Allen of Lexington; two sons, David M. of Platte City, Mo., and Danny J. of Clayton, N.C.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Alex M., died in 1986.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Baptist Temple, with burial in Fairmont cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home.

James Pinkston

CLAY, Ky. — James R. “Bob” Pinkston, 72, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999, of heart failure at the Shemwell Nursing Home in Providence. He was Baptist.

He had been a coal miner for the Pittsburg and Midway Coal Co. for 39 years.

He was a World War II Army veteran and member of the American Legion in Clay and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5484 in Providence.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Marie; a daughter, Linda Pinkston of Clay; two sons, Steve and Chris, both of Clay; two sisters, Joyce Bumpus of Henderson and Jean Whitmore of Colonial Heights, Va.; three grandchildren, Briana Alvey, James and Brian Pinkston; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Vanover Funeral Home, with burial in White Oak cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. and from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Vivian Byrum

EARLINGTON — Vivian Ray (Blanks) Byrum, 80, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at National Health Care Nursing Home in Madisonville.

She retired as postmaster in 1985 from the St. Charles post office.

Surviving are a daughter, Janie Kerlich of Earlington; a son, Danny of Madisonville; two grandchildren, Katie Kerlich and David Thomas Saxon.

Her husband, James Daniel, died in 1998. She was also preceded in death by a son.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, with burial in Oakwood cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Reid-Walters Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. to service time at the church.

Beulah Roberts

STURGIS — Beulah Syers Roberts, 92, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at Methodist Hospital in Morganfield.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Betty Rayburn and Mary Ann Rodgers, both of Sturgis; five grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Her husband, George L. “Shorty, ” died in 1991.

Arrangements are pending at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis.

William English

NEBO — William Allen English, 65, died Wednesday, April 26 2000, at his home from a stroke.

He had been a welder and worked for the P&M; Coal Co.

He was a Korean War Army veteran.

He was a member of the Nebo Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Betty (Gooch); a daughter, LaDonna G. Bailie of Versailles; a son, David K. of Providence; three sisters, Margaret Cooper of Evansville, Sue Nesmith of Manitou and Betty Hamby of Dawson Springs; two brothers, James W. of Greenville and Ralph of Nebo; two grandson, Matthew James and Allen Bailie; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Harris Funeral Home, with burial in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.
