Ida Cash

STURGIS — Ida Wesley Cash, 76, died Thursday, April 27, 2000, at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga, Tenn., from a stroke.

Surviving are her husband, Tom; two stepdaughters, Susan Miller and Julie Key, both of Chattanooga; two sons, Charlie Wesley of Troy, Mo., and Scott of Marion; a sister, Ruth Sidley of Sun City, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Shane, Rebel and Flint Wesley and Dusty Wesley Shelly; and six great-grandchildren.

Her first husband, Bob, died in 1985, and a son, Bobby Wynn Wesley, died in 1964.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Whitsell Funeral Home, with burial in Pythian Ridge cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Herman Tompkins

SEBREE, Ky. — Herman Tompkins, 85, died Wednesday, March 29, 2000, at his home in the Petersburg Community near Sebree.

He was a construction worker and a security guard. He worked for Armor Manufacturing Co. and the original Anaconda Aluminum Co. in Sebree.

He was a member of Sebree Pentecostal Mission Church and a former member of the Evansville Carpenters Union local.

Surviving are his wife, Mary “Geneviee” (Nickens); a son, Victor of Minnesota; a stepson, William G. Winstead of Evansville; a brother, Chester of Sebree; three grandchildren; a step grandchild; three great-grandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; and stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Tompkins Funeral Home Sebree-Poole Chapel, with burial in the family plot in Springdale cemetery near Sebree.

Friends may call from 5:30 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sebree Pentecostal Mission Church.

Billie Fort

CLAY, Ky. — Billie Dalton Fort, 83, of Louisville, formerly of Clay, died Monday, March 27, 2000, at Francisco Nursing Home.

She worked for General Electric.

She was a member of New Salem Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Linda Kerstetter; two sons, Michael Fort and Terry Bischoff; 19 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at noon Friday in Odd Fellows cemetery in Clay.

There will be no visitation at Vanover Funeral Home in Clay.

Geraldine Lunsford

OWENSBORO, Ky. — Geraldine Kifer Lunsford, 92, of Louisville, formerly of Owensboro, died Saturday, March 4, 2000, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.

She had owned a restaurant with her husband in Chicago.

She was a member of Christian Disciples of Christ Drive-In Church in Dayton Beach, Fla., where she was a member of the choir for 25 years, and did more than 25, 000 hours of volunteer work for the Hospital Auxiliary at Fish Memorial Hospital in New Smyrna Beach, Fla.

She was a graduate of the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago.

Surviving are a foster brother, Norris W. Reynolds of Louisville; and nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Frank, died in 1964.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Liberty cemetery in Cynthiana, Ind.

Glenn Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

A.M. Matthews Jr.

HENDERSON, Ky. — A.M. “Doc” Matthews Jr., 72, formerly of Henderson, died Friday, March 24, 2000, at Great Lakes Hospice in Jackson, Mich.

He was an engineer and worked for Royal Globe as the company’s Far East supervisor. He was the chief engineer for the state of Virginia and became director of the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors located in Columbus, Ohio. He retired in 1993.

He was a World War II and Korean War Navy veteran and earned a master’s degree in mechanical engineering.

Surviving are his wife, Annabelle “Anne” (Sweet); two daughters, Chloanne Thomas and Lequita Curry, both of Jackson; two sons, Patrick Thomas of California Valley, Calif., and A.M. “Doc” III of Henderson; a brother, Charles of Huntsville, Ala.; seven grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at noon today at Mount Zion United Brethren Church in Wayne, Ohio, with burial in Mount Zion cemetery.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to service time at the church.

J.L. Watson Funeral Chapel in Jackson, Mich., is handling arrangements.

Henry Watson

MADISONVILLE, Ky. — Henry “Sonny” Watson, 62, died Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at the Regional Medical Center Emergency Room. The cause of death has not yet been determined.

He was a coal miner.

He was a member of Park Avenue Baptist Church, Madisonville Masonic Lodge 143, Scottish Rite, Rizpah Shrine Temple and the Vintage Stock Car Racing Association.

Surviving are his wife, Carol Jean; two sons, Robert Wayne of Madisonville and Heath Wynn of Evansville; his mother, Virginia Watson of Madisonville; a sister, Vealiti Hehemann of Madisonville; two brothers, Leland “Chuck” of Madisonville and Ronnie of Henderson; and a grandson, Robert Watson.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home, with burial in Suthards cemetery in Earlington.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m., and from 11 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kentucky Baptist Home for Children.

J.C. Scott

HANSON, Ky. — J.C. Scott, 77, died Wednesday, March 29, 2000, at Regional Medical Center.

He owned and operated Scott’s Cabinet Shop in Hanson.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Doris; four daughters, Barbara Dame of Hanson, Ann Kulpa of Troy, Ohio, Donna Curneal of Slaughters and Kim Scott of Madisonville; three sisters, Bettye Clark of Hanson, Geraldine Denton of Onton and Jessie Sullivan of Madisonville; two brothers, Elson of Slaughters and David of Madisonville; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home in Madisonville, with burial in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Madisonville.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Violet Edwards

HAWESVILLE, Ky. — Violet M. “Vicky” Edwards, 77, died Sunday, April 16, 2000, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. She had cancer.

She served in the Women’s Army Corps during World War II with General MacArthur’s staff in Australia.

She was active in the Green River Firefighters Association, was the “Firehouse Mom” for the Hawesville Volunteer Fire Department and she made Care Bears for Clowns for Christ.

Surviving are two sons, Bill of Lexington and Dale of Hawesville; a daughter, Vicky Cheek of Naples, Fla. and seven grandchildren.

Her husband, W.F., died in 1988.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hawesville United Methodist Church, with burial in Serenity Hills.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Gibson & Son Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hawesville Volunteer Fire Department or a charity of your choice.

Nancy Mick

MARION, Ky.— Nancy Lucas Mick, 53, died Sunday, April 16, 2000, at Crittenden County Hospital.

She was a teacher for 20 years at Crittenden Elementary School. She was publisher of The Crittenden Press from 1993 to 1997, taking over operation of the newspaper after the death of her husband, Paul E. Mick, who had published the newspaper.

She was a member of the Marion United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Marlin Travis; two daughters, Allison Evans of Marion and Andrea Mick of Bowling Green; two stepdaughters, Shannon Handura and Sonya McKinley of Clarksville, Tenn.; a son, Lucas of Marion; a granddaughter, Meredith Evans; and two step grandchildren, Rachel Handura and Jake McKinley.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Marion United Methodist Church.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to service time at Gilbert Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Paul E. Mick Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of The Crittenden Press or the Crittenden County Chapter of Habitat for Humanity.

Ruby Phillips

HENDERSON, Ky. — Ruby M. Phillips, 82, died Thursday, April 20, 2000, at Methodist Hospital.

She

worked for the Henderson County School System for 30 years.

She was a member of Bennett Memorial United Methodist Church, the Wesleyan Fellowship Class and Mary Martha Circle.

Surviving are three daughters, Dorothy and Carolyn Sue Phillips and Becky Jones, all of Henderson; two sons, Roy of Corydon and Jerry of Henderson; a sister, Mildred Walker of Henderson; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Harlan, died in 1978.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Tapp Funeral Home, with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today, noon to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.
