Oma Cobb

SEBREE, Ky. — Oma Crowley Cobb, 98, formerly of Slaughters, died Thursday, April 20, 2000, at Colonial Terrace Rest Home.

She retired from Turnstead’s Manufacturing Inc. in Detroit and had owned and operated a boarding house in Detroit.

She was the oldest member of Slaughters Missionary Baptist Church. She also played the organ and piano at Zion Brick Church and was a member of the Women’s Missionary Union.

Surviving are a daughter, Kathleen Martin of Huntsville, Ala.; two sons, Madison H. of Henderson and Edward Leroy of Sebree; and two sisters, Viola Warren of Dixon and Curtis Davinport of Sebree.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Amon H., in 1972, and by a son, Edsel, in 1966.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Tompkins Funeral

Home Sebree-Poole Chapel, with burial in Slaughters cemetery.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Colonial Terrace Rest Home Activity Department.

Rev. J.C. Womack

MADISONVILLE, Ky. — The Rev. J.C. Womack, 81, died Thursday, April 20, 2000, at his home.

He was a retired Cumberland Presbyterian minister, having served since 1946. He was a member of the Cumberland Presbytery and held pastorates in Arkansas, Tennessee, Texas, Oklahoma and Kentucky.

He was the former executive secretary and clerk for the Kentucky Synod for 15 years, longer than anyone else had previously served. He also held revivals in several states.

Surviving are his wife, Rene; a daughter, Rhena Elizabeth Holeman of Henderson; three sons, Waymond of Las Vegas, Jerry of Madisonville and Tommy of Nashville, Tenn.; a sister, Nannie Goode of Atoka, Tenn.; two brothers, the Rev. W.M. “Bill” Womack of Heber Springs, Ark., and Carlton of Searcy, Ark.; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Briar Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Muhlenberg County, with burial in Briar Creek cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home and from 1 p.m. to service time at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church.

Jessie Long

HENDERSON, Ky. — Jessie M. Long, 87, died Friday, April 21, 2000, at Methodist Hospital.

She worked for Indiana Bell as a telephone operator and district assistant clerk.

Surviving is a niece.

Her husband, Glen F., died in 1999.

Memorial services will be at a later date.

There will be no visitation at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony’s Hospice or to the Humane Society of Henderson County.

Audrey Snider

OWENSBORO, Ky. — Audrey M. Snider, 86, formerly of Carlisle, Ind., died Thursday, April 20, 2000, at Owensboro Mercy Health Systems.

She was a member of Shaker Prairie Christian Church, the Missionary Society of the church and the Homemakers Club.

Surviving are a daughter, Betty Arend of Rochester, N.Y.; a son, Dallas of Owensboro; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Roy D., died in 1993.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Gordon E. Utt Funeral Home Oaktown Chapel in Oaktown, Ind., with burial in Shepard cemetery in rural Carlisle.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Winfred Maddox

ISLAND, Ky. — Winfred B. “Wimp” Maddox, 67, died Thursday, April 20, 2000, at Owensboro Mercy Health Systems in Owensboro of complications of diabetes.

He was a retired carpenter and a member of Carpenters Local Union 549.

He was a member of Island United Methodist Church.

He was a Korean War Army veteran.

Surviving are a daughter, Lisa Heitmann of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; two sons, Michael B. of Island and Chris of Livermore; two sisters, Aethel Carlisle and Florence Ford, both of Island; a brother, Charles Leon of Island; three grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Muster Funeral Home Livermore Chapel, with burial in Worthington Chapel cemetery in McLean County.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association Kentucky affiliate.

Roy Pointer

SOUTH CARROLLTON, Ky. — Roy Franklin Pointer, 69, died Sunday, March 26, 2000, at Madisonville Regional Medical Center of cancer.

He had been a belt operator at TVA.

He was a Korean War and Vietnam War veteran and had been a prisoner of war in Korea for 33 months. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.

He was a member of the Masons in Central City, Scottish Rite and Rizpah Temple.

Surviving are his wife, Wilda (Gunterman); a daughter, Regina Brothers of South Carrollton; three sons, Roy W. of Owensboro, Jackie of Bremen and Chris of South Carrollton; two sisters, Jean Mikusevic and Joyce Weeks, both of Portage, Ind.; a brother, William of Conover, Wis.; and nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Pine Grove cemetery, with military rites.

Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Tucker Funeral Home in Central City.

Donald Burton

WHEATCROFT, Ky. — Donald Lloyd Burton, 53, died Sunday, March 26, 2000, at Methodist Hospital in Henderson of heart failure.

He was a coal miner and member of the United Mine Workers.

He was a Vietnam War Navy veteran and member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5484 in Providence.

He was a Mason, active in the Democratic Party in Webster County and had been a deacon of the Philadelphian Christian Church in Wheatcroft.

He was a past member of the Webster County Fiscal Court and former mayor of Wheatcroft.

Surviving are his wife of 26 years, Marilu; two sons, Roger M. and Kenton L., both of Wheatcroft; his mother, Ima Doris Burton of Wheatcroft; a sister, Debra Meadows of Clay; two brothers, Wayne of Owensboro and Mack of Clay; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Philadelphian Christian Church in Wheatcroft, with burial in Odd Fellows cemetery in Clay.

Friends may call from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. today, with a memorial service at 6 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to service time at the church. Vanover Funeral Home in Clay is handling arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church building fund or the Ronald McDonald House in Nashville.

Michael Sandefur

HENDERSON, Ky. — Michael Sandefur, 28, died Friday, March 24, 2000, in Webster County in an automobile accident near Sebree.

He was Pentecostal.

Surviving are his mother, Shirley Owens of Henderson; his father, Kenneth W. Sandefur of Fordsville; three sisters, Sandra Denton and Shirl Owens, both of Henderson, and Tonya Harris of Hebardsville; two brothers, Tony Sandefur and Robert Owens, both of Henderson; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home, with burial in Old Salem cemetery in Union County.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

George Klutey

MARION, Ky. — George William Klutey, 77, died Monday, March 27, 2000, at Crittenden County Hospital of heart failure.

He was a World War II veteran. He was past master of Bigham Lodge 256 and Liberty Lodge 480, past commander of Legion of Honor Rizpah Shrine Temple and past worthy patron of Eastern Star 135.

Surviving are his wife, Virginia; a daughter, Arna Hill of Marion; and a grandson, Duston Hill.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Gilbert Funeral Home, with burial in Mapleview cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ronald Young

CASEYVILLE, Ky. — Ronald D. Young, 60, died Sunday, March 26, 2000, at his home of an apparent heart attack.

He was a superintendent of Bray Marine Harbor Service.

He was a Navy veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Sandra K.; a daughter, Misty Wolfe of Sullivan, Ky.; a son, Scott of Owensboro; two sisters, Carolyn Young of Evansville and Marilyn Duke of Orange Park, Fla.; a brother, Jerry of Indianapolis; a granddaughter, Lindsey Young; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis, with burial in Odd Fellows cemetery in Morganfield.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m today and from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.
