Chester Clem Sr.

MADISONVILLE, Ky. — Chester Franklin Clem Sr., 79, died Saturday, March 25, 2000, at Senior Citizen Nursing Home from complications of Alzheimer’s disease.

He was retired from Goodyear as a tire builder in Akron, Ohio, and had been owner and operator of a carrier service.

He was a member of the First Assembly of God.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara J. (Berry); a stepdaughter, Cathy Spinks of Williams, Ind.; a son, Chester F. Clem Jr. of Ravenna, Ohio; four stepsons, Ronald Moon of Robards, Kevin S. and Christopher Moon, both of Madisonville, and Scott Moon of LaGrange; three grandchildren; four step grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Assembly of God, with burial in Greenlawn cemetery in Akron, Ohio.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. to service time at the church.

There will be no visitation at Harris Funeral Home.

Anne Donley

MADISONVILLE, Ky. — Anne P. Donley, 90, died Monday, March 27, 2000, at Ridgewood Terrace Nursing Home.

She retired as office manager for her late husband, Dr. R. Frank Donley.

She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Columbus, Ohio, and Mount Carmel Hospital Medical Auxiliary.

Surviving are a daughter, Julie Villanai of New Port Richey, Fla.; three sons, Dr. James of Madisonville, Dr. Patrick of Tacoma, Wash., and Dr. Robert of Duluth, Minn.; a sister, Agnes Newton of Sarasota, Fla.; a brother, the Rev. Paulinus Forsthoefel of Detroit; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Chapel of St. Joseph’s cemetery, burial in the cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Egan-Ryan Funeral Home in Columbus, with a rosary at 7:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Knights of Columbus or Father Glahn Council 11132.

Opal Downey

MADISONVILLE, Ky. — Opal Downey, 93, died Sunday, March 26, 2000, at Ridgewood Terrace Nursing Home.

She was a member of Grapevine Christian Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Phyllis Bryant of Madisonville; a son, Dewayne of Madisonville; a brother, Glen Johnson of Gothenberg, Neb.; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Alvin Sr., and a son, Alvin Jr., preceded her in death.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home, with burial in Grapevine cemetery.

Friends may call from noon to service time.

Sarah West

HENDERSON, Ky. — Sarah Marie West, 73, died Sunday, March 26, 2000, at Medco of Henderson.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband, C.B. Jr.; a daughter, Rhonda Ferguson LeGate of Henderson; two sisters, Rose Crawley of Henderson and Marianna Owen of Greenville; a brother, Les Smithhart Jr.; and two grandchildren, Eli and Mimi LeGate.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home, with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Neel Martin

MARION, Ky. — Neel Martin, 71, died Saturday, March 25, 2000, at his home of cancer.

He retired after 22 years of active duty from the Army in 1970, with the rank of Sergeant First Class.

He owned and operated Midway TV Service for 9 years and had worked for Pyro Mining, retiring in 1995.

Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Thelma; a daughter, Diane Martin Bunner of Dublin, Ohio; two sons, John A. of Murray and Scott J. of Orlando, Fla.; a sister, Josephine Underwood of Portland, Ore.; four grandchildren; and a niece.

Private graveside services will be Tuesday at Union cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Boyd Funeral Chapel in Salem.

Dora Smith

UNIONTOWN, Ky. — Dora W. “Dodie” Smith, 94, died Saturday, March 25, 2000, at Ridgeway Manor Nursing Home.

She was a member of the Uniontown Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Patricia Hammond of Uniontown and Sue White of Moyock, N.C.; a son, David P. “Chip” Sizemore of Marion; a brother, Cedrick Thomas of Stanford; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are pending at Whitsell Funeral Home.

Sarah West

HENDERSON, Ky. — Sarah Marie West, 73, died Sunday, March 26, 2000, at the Medco Nursing Home.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband, C.B. Jr.; a daughter, Rhonda Ferguson LeGate of Henderson; two sisters, Rose Crawley of Henderson and Marianna Owen of Greenville; a brother, Les Smithhart Jr. of Henderson; and two grandchildren, Eli and Mimi LeGate.

Harold Childress

PROVI-DENCE — Harold Richard Childress, 79, died Saturday, April, 22, at Life Care Center in Winter Haven, Fla.

He was a well driller for 30 years. He was a member of Providence City Council and School Board and served as the county judge and county magistrate for many years.

He was a World War II veteran, serving in the armored division and member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.

He was a 60-year member and had been a deacon of the General Baptist Church. He was a Mason.

Surviving are his wife, Imogene (Hanor); two daughters, Sharon Smithson of Auburndale, Fla., and Lynda Zoellner of Treasure Island, Fla.; a son, Larry of Nashville, Tenn.; a sister, Margaret Whelan of Evansville; three brothers, Kenneth of Madisonville and Howard and Lowell, both of Providence; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Townsend-Jones Funeral Home, with burial in Pleasant Valley cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to service time.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Rev. John Stalls

MADISONVILLE — The Rev. John W. “Preacher” Stalls, 64, died Tuesday, April, 25, 2000, at his home. The cause of death is being determined by the Hopkins County coroner.

For more the 50 years, he was a full time minister, starting his preaching at age 10. He was the senior pastor at the Life Christian Center, assistant general superintendent for the Pentecostal Church of God in Joplin, Mo., and the district superintendent for the state of Kentucky for the Pentecostal Church of God.

Surviving are his wife, Linda “Sister”; a son, the Rev. John R. Price; his mother, Lurline Boren Stalls of Madisonville; a sister, Patsy Lewis of Madisonville; two grandsons; and nieces.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Life Christian Center, with burial in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to service time at the center. Barnett-Strother Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Life Christian Center.

Mary Heineman

PROVIDENCE — Mary Nell Heineman, 75, died Monday, April, 24, 2000, at Madisonville Regional Hospital of heart failure.

She was a member of the Church of God.

Surviving are her husband, Carl R.; a daughter, Sandra Burnett of Waukegan, Ill.; two sons, J.L. Brewington of Antioch, Ill., and Steve Brewington of Madisonville; a sister, Virginia Miles of Prairie Du Rocher, Ill.; two grandchildren, whom she raised, Jennifer Holestean and Michael Braisch; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Paul and Billy Brewington.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Congdon & Co. Funeral Directors in Zion, Ill., with burial in Mount Olivet cemetery in Zion.

Friends may call from Friday evening at the funeral home in Zion.

Edmona Tabor

MARION — Edmona Tabor, 85, died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, in Crittenden County Hospital.

She was a member of Sulpher Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Linda Kemper of Tolu and Edith Cronin of Marion; four sons, Harold “Cotton” and Edward “Cactus, ” both of Marion, William “Bill” of Mexico, Ky., and Joe of Elm Grove, La.; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Rollie, and a son, Freddie, preceded her in death.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Gilbert Funeral Home, with burial in Frances cemetery.
