Larry Watson

STURGIS — Larry E. Watson, 45, died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, in Utica at the home of his sister, Marlene Blue, of liver failure.

Also surviving are a son, Bill Tom of Sturgis; his mother, Martha Watson of Sturgis; and nephews.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Whitsell Funeral Home, with burial in Pythian Ridge cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Robert Gibson

MORGANFIELD — Robert “Bob” Tolbert Gibson, 69, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2000, at his home of cancer.

He was a retired coal miner, had worked at Island Creek and was a member of United Mine Workers.

He was a Korean War Army veteran.

He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Whitsell Funeral Home, with burial in Pythian Ridge cemetery in Sturgis.

Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Fred Nelson Sr.

STURGIS — Fred Nelson Sr., 73, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2000, at his home. The Union County Coroner’s office is investigating the cause of death.

He was a retired coal miner and member of the United Mine Workers.

He was a member of Shilo Christian Church.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Joan; a daughter, Beverly Stone of Sturgis; three sons, Ronald Lee of Morganfield and Fred Jr. and William Joseph, both of Sturgis; four sisters, Alice Edwards of Henderson, Rita M. Rushing of Shawneetown, Ill., and Lottie Downs and Lena Kanatzer, both of Morganfield; 14 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield, with burial in Odd Fellows cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 pm. today and from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Danny Douthit

HENDERSON — Danny Douthit, 48, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2000, at Methodist Hospital of a heart attack.

He was owner and operator of Douthit Diesel Truck Service and Repair.

He was a Vietnam War Marine veteran.

He was a member and deacon of Watson Lane Baptist Church, was past president of the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief, a royal ambassador leader for Finley Baptist Church, a Kentucky Colonel and Kentucky Good Will ambassador.

Surviving are his wife of 28 years, Mary; a daughter, Amber Douthit of Henderson; two sons, Eric of Henderson and Jason of Indianapolis; his father, Troy of Flora, Ill.; three sisters, Gina Douthit of Fredericksburg, Va., Kayla Steele of Flora, Ill., and Brandi Vaughn of Mississippi; a brother, Larry of Newburgh, Ind.; and granddaughter, Madison Douthit.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home, with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Orville Johnston

MADISONVILLE — Orville Bradford Johnston, 81, died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, at Madisonville Regional Medical Center.

He was a retired coal miner and had worked for Island Creek Coal Co.

He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5480 and a Mason.

He wa a member of First Baptist Church.

Surviving are his daughter, Phyllis Hill of Madisonville; a son, Fred of Madisonville; two sisters, Katherine Gibson of Evansville and Evelyn Peters of Louisville; two brothers, Algene of Owensboro and Edwin of Henderson; five grandchildren, Allison Alexander, Baker Johnston, and Tyler, Zachary and Trey Hill; and nieces and nephews.

His wife, Mildred, died in 1992.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Harris Funeral Home, with burial in Odd Fellows cemetery, with military rites.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

David Dockery

RABBIT RIDGE — David J. Dockery, 77, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, at Madisonville Regional Medical Center of respiratory failure. He was Baptist.

He had been a coal miner for 18 years and worked at Goodyear Tire for 17 years.

He was an Army corporal during World War II, serving with the 307th Airborne Squadron. He received four Bronze Stars.

Surviving are his wife, Opal (Felker); a daughter, Carolyn Duncan of Madisonville; three sisters, Bobbie Brown and Lorene Kirkwood, both of Beulah, and Ruby Hall of Madisonville; two grandchildren, Celena Hammack and Cassie Duncan; and a nephew.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at New Beulah cemetery.

Lola Gorbett

HENDERSON — Lola L. Gorbett, 93, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, at Redbanks Nursing Home.

She attended East End Tabernacle.

Surviving are two daughters, Carolyn Stone of Henderson and Martha Russell of Providence; a foster daughter, Ruby Brown of Davis, W.Va.; four brothers, Chester and James Cobb, both of Henderson, the Rev. D. W. Cobb of Evansville and Omar Ray Cobb of Corydon; 18 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Jesse Carroll Gorbett, died in 1992.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Tapp Funeral Home, with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. There will be no visitation.

Edna Brackett

MADISONVILLE — Edna Leon Brackett, 91, died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at her home.

She was a charter member of the Greater Lighthouse Pentecostal Church.

Surviving are four sisters, Bettie Wray of Richmond, Va., Faye Bumpas of Cape Girardeau, Mo., Linda Pendley and Freda Goodman, both of Madisonville; a brother, Gilbert Franklin of Madisonville; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, A. Leamon, and a son, Billy Leamon.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Greater Lighthouse Pentecostal Church, with burial in Grapevine cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at Reid-Walters Funeral Home in Earlington and from noon to service time at the church.

Owen Tribble

CADIZ — Owen Raymond Tribble, 82, died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at Trigg County Hospital.

He retired from Local 181 as an operating engineer.

He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving on Landing Ship Transport 547.

He was a member and former chief of the Trigg-Lyon Fire Department.

He was deacon and elder of Cadiz Christian Church.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Norene Courtney; a daughter, Faye Sweeden of Orlando, Fla.; a son, Owen Raymond Jr. of Rockport, Ind.; five grandchildren, Cindy, Mark and Michael Sweeden, Brad Tribble and Andrea Johnson; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Goodwin Funeral Home, with burial in Riverside cemetery in Hopkinsville.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Cadiz Christian Church or the Trigg-Lyon Fire Department.

Hubert Harris

MADISONVILLE — Hubert Young Harris, 91, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, at Madisonville Regional Medical Center.

He was a carpenter and worked for Hanson School for 18 years.

He was a member of the Greater Lighthouse Pentecostal Church.

Surviving are his wife, Edith O. of Madisonville; four daughters, Betty Jo Harris of Madisonville, Dorothy J. Pillow of Evansville, Clair Parker of Cape Girardeau, Mo., and Brenda G. Skaggs of Hanson; two sons, Charles Allen of Madisonville and Robert Young of Hanson; a sister, Kathlene Parrish of Gallatin, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren; two step grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home, with burial in Olive Branch cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church missionary fund.

Alverna Coomes

OWENSBORO — Alverna Joyce Coomes, 72, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000 at Owensboro Mercy Health System of cancer.

She was a member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church, the Younger Women’s Club and Women’s Club. She performed with Rambler’s Pantomime, worked with Big Brothers and Big Sisters and was a volunteer senior citizen at Riverpark and other organizations.

She was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority.

Surviving are her husband of 45 years, Thomas H. Sr.; three sons, Thomas H. Coomes Jr. of Cleveland, Tenn., Bruce W. Coomes of Owensboro and Jerry T. Baker of New Albany, Ind.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home, with burial in Resurrection cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Association or the Susan B. Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer Research.
