Fred Darrell Cole, 58, of Berry, died Friday at Harrison Memorial Hospital, Cynthiana. He was a carpenter and a member of Morgan Christian Church.

Survivors include sons, Dana Cole of Berry, Shane Cole and Scott Cole, both of Cynthiana; daughters, Debbie Garrison and Robin Shaw, both of Cynthiana; his mother, Cecile Barbee Henry of Cynthiana; his stepmother, Rose Marie Turner of Indianapolis; a sister, Carolyn Chambers of Robertson County; brother, Donald Cole of Pendleton County and Tony Cole of Erlanger; a stepbrother, Fred B. Cole Jr. of Indianapolis; stepsisters, Chandera Maxey and Connie Meade, both of Indianapolis; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Burial will be in Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Drive, Lexington, Ky., 40504.

Floyd Darnell Courtney, 93, of Brooksville, died Friday at Robertson County Health Care Center, Mt. Olivet. He was a farmer and member of New Zion Baptist Church. His wife, Goldie Rankin Courtney, died in 1991.

Survivors include a daughter, Margaret C. Adams of Brooksville; a son, Kenneth Courtney of Brooksville; and a sister, Virgilene Haley of Ft. Mitchell.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville. Burial will be in Neave Cemetery, Bracken County. Memorials are suggested to Milford Christian Church, or the charity of the donor's choice.

Louise J. Creekmore, 72, of West Covington, died at 7:05 a.m. Sunday at her home. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Jennings Bryan Creekmore Jr.; sons, Bryan Creekmore of Latonia, Danny Creekmore of Edgewood and Jimmy Creekmore, at home; daugh ters, Marian Houp, Kathleen Carroll and Alice Stidham, all of Ludlow, and Irene Kohne of Georgetown, Ohio; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Naomi Blanche Dornbusch, 81, of Newport, died 1:03 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas. She was a retired medical secretary with Christ Hospital, Cincinnati, and a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Crestview Hills.

Survivors include a sister, Laura Miller of Lakeside Park.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Visita tion will begin there at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to the church, 2718 Dixie Hwy., Crestview Hills, Ky., 41017. Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Lela Hines, 98, of Elsmere, died Friday at the home of her son, Howard Hines, of Elsmere.

Other survivors include 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Miracle Temple F.B. Church, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in the Mary Smith Memorial Cemetery, Elsmere. Jones and Simpson Funeral, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Deborah Race Hudson, 45, of Florence, died at 5:13 p.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood, after an extended illness. She was a homemaker and a member of Crittenden Baptist Church. She was a former volunteer with St. Luke Hospitals, and a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Florence and Crittenden fire departments.

Survivors include a daughter, Leslie Jones of Hebron; a son, Kevin Hudson of Corinth; her mother, Alvenia Race Judy of Florence; sisters, Jayedeane Wood of Florence and Marsha Race Lohbeck of Batavia, Ohio; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Barbara McMahan, 57, of Carrollton, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was owner of Della Rosa Pizza, Carrollton.

Survivors include her husband, Richard McMahan; a daughter, Michelle Marsh of Carrollton; sons, Ricky McMahan of Carrollton and Brent McMahan of Milton; a brother, Raymond Porter of Anderson, Ind.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Family Worship Center, Carrollton. Burial will be in Moffett Cemetery, Milton. Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton, is handling arrangements.

Danny L. Napier, 43, of Burlington, died at 11:10 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence, after a brief illness. He was the receiving coordinator with Eagle Manufacturing Co., Florence, and a former relief man with Square D, Florence. He was a youth football coach with the Boone County Pee Wee Football Blackhawks.

Survivors include his wife, Dottie A. Carter Napier; a daughter, Tammy J. White of Cincinnati; brothers, George Napier and James Napier, both of Butler, Clarence Napier of Elsmere and Robert Napier of Owenton; sisters, Betty Price and Connie Sue Gornto, both of Burlington; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington. Visitation will begin there at noon Wednesday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to Boone County Pee Wee Football.

Frank W. Penick Sr., 85, of Walton, died Saturday at his home. He was a book binder with Wiese-Winkler Printing Co., Cincinnati, and an elder at Walton Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Penick; a daughter, Nora Kelly of Cleves, Ohio; a son, Frank Penick Jr. of Demossville; and a brother, Louis Penick of Covington.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge.

Mildred L. Vietor, 78, of Ft. Mitchell, died at 3:45 a.m. Sunday at her daughter's home in Ft. Mitchell. She was a retired cook with American Airlines at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. Her husband, Edward A. Vietor, died in 1983. A son, Daniel Vietor, died in 1966.

Survivors include a son, Stephen A. Vietor of Fairfield, Ohio; daughters, Andrea L. Kincaid of Covington, Donna D. Coyne of Elsmere, Kathie Wartman of Ft. Mitchell, Holley Wallace of Richwood, Jackie McManama of Jonesville and Colleen Dalhover of Crittenden; a sister, Ruth Meranda of Hillsboro, Ohio; 23 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 12:05 p.m. Thursday at Mother of God Church, Covington. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Home-Health Hospice, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky., 41014.

Evelyn Hall Whitton, 70, of Parkville, Mo., formerly of Falmouth, died Saturday in Missouri. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Arthur Whitton; sons, William R. Moore of California, Ky., and Gary Moore of New Liberty; daughters, Connie Bellanca of Florence and Carol Roberts of Dallas; three stepdaughters; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will begin there at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery, Pendleton County.

Robert Rankin, writer, outdoorsman

Robert M. Rankin didn't waste much time.

A writer, world traveler, outdoorsman and family man, the Dayton native seized the opportunities he was offered.

Mr. Rankin, 80, of Ft. Thomas, died at 2:30 p.m. Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas.

He was an outdoors writer with The Cincinnati Post, a retired outdoors editor and columnist with the Cincinnati Enquirer, and a journalism professor at Northern Kentucky University.

Mr. Rankin also contributed to the Falmouth Outlook, the Campbell County Recorder and Red Duck Magazine. He was a former track standout at the University of Kentucky, and was a member of the Northern Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame.

He was president of the Fin, Fur and Feather division of the Cincinnati Club, and was a member of the board of directors of the Outdoor Writers Association of America. He was president of the Ohio and Kentucky OWAA, and the Kentucky Outdoor Press Association. He also was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Newport, the Arctic Circle Club and Outdoor Writers of America. And he was an Army veteran of World War II.

"He was into everything," said his wife, Evelyn Furrow Rankin. "Fishing and gardening were his two most favorite."

Mr. Rankin reported on resorts and attractions around the world, taking a special liking to the Arctic Circle. Mrs. Rankin said he traveled there many times.

His wealth of experience made him a favorite teacher and speaker in Northern Kentucky.

"He was always asked to make speeches at clubs. He was real funny, and everyone enjoyed him," his wife said.

He helped form the Ft. Thomas Swim Club, A.J. Jolly Park and Kincaid Lake State Park, Mrs. Rankin said.

Mr. Rankin recently finished writing a book on Newport's transformation from a hotbed of gambling and other illegal activity to its modern incarnation.

His daughter, Laura R. Feltner of Falmouth, is copy-editing the book.

Other survivors include a daughter, Linda Rankin of Ft. Thomas.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Ft. Thomas. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Memorials are suggested to St. John's United Church of Christ, Park Ave. and Nelson Place, Newport, Ky. 41071.

Arizona Bailey, 64, of Cincinnati, died at 11:12 a.m. Monday at Batavia Convalescent Nursing Center, Cincinnati. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include sons, Tobie Bailey of Covington and Steven Bailey of Dayton; daughters, Helen Baker of East Liverpool, Ohio, and Melissa Bailey of Covington; brothers, Leroy Wilburn and Junior Wilburn, both of Michigan, and Claude Wilburn of London; and a sister, Lois Bates of Covington.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at noon Thursday.

Burial will be in Linden Grove Cemetery, Covington.
