Christine Burke

MORGANFIELD — Christine Burke, 81, of Uniontown, died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000, at Methodist Hospital in Henderson.

Surviving are six daughters, Sue Hooker of Henderson, Phyllis Cartwright of Morganfield, Peggy Coker of Smith Mills and Martha Tapp, Janice Williams and Cynthia Dunn, all of Uniontown; six sons, Albert S. and Tom, both of Robards, Jesse Allen of Uniontown, Herbert Jr. of Smith Mills, Kirby of Waverly and Ricky Lynn of Wheatcroft; a sister, Ruth Evelyn Wittfoth of Michigan; 30 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Herbert S., died in 1991, two sons, Charles Owen, died in 1991, and Dorris Ray, died in 1994, and a daughter, Brenda Kay Spears, died in 1995.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Whitsell Funeral Home with burial in Fairmont cemetery.

Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Lois Parker

MADISONVILLE — Lois L. (Lam) Parker, 79, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, at her home.

She retired in 1987 as a licensed practical nurse.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church and Young at Heart.

Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Goodloe and Nancy McLearn, both of Madisonville; two sons, David of Madisonville and Kenny of Prospect; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Rance A., died in 1996.

Services 10 a.m. Monday at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home, burial in Odd Fellows cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to service time a the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church building fund.

Charles Brown

CLAY — Charles Sammy Brown, 68, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, at Madisonville Regional medical Center of complications of cancer.

He was a farmer and had been a partner in the Brown’s Ramsey Creek Farms.

He had been responsible for the care of the Pride Bordley cemetery.

He was a member, deacon, and adult Sunday school teacher at Pride Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Helen; a daughter, Dr. Sherri Brown Osteen of Augusta, Ga.; a son, David of Pride, Ky.; a sister, Betty Jo Brown of Evansville; a brother, James Edward of Pride; four grandchildren, Samantha, Eric, Dennie Alan and Landon; and nieces.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Vanover Funeral Home, with burial. in Pride Bordley cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church or American Cancer Association.

Dorothy Wooley

MARION — Dorothy Wooley, 38, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, at Crittenden County Hospital. Her death is being investigated by the Crittenden County coroner’s office.

She was the first female licensed plumber in Crittenden County.

She was an Army veteran and member of Marion Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Randy; three daughters, Tori Wooley of Marion and Amanda and Jessica Wooley, both of Texas; two sons, Scott Wooley of Marion and Johnathn Shepard of Texas; her parents, James and Merle Myers of Marion; two sisters, Vicki King of Marion and April Burnham of Dayton, Texas; and a brother, Craig Myers of Bay Town, Texas.

Services and burial are pending.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday at Gilbert Funeral Home.

Aliene Haas

OWENSBORO — Aliene Roberts Haas, 85, died Monday at Bon Harbor Nursing & Rehab Center.

She retired after 25 years at General Electric.

She was a gardener and a member of Crosspointe Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Janice Clark of Evansville; a son, Neal of Owensboro; two sisters, Letitia Gilbert of Owensboro and Katherine Holland of Calhoun; a brother, Allie Roberts Jr. of Yelvington; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cornelius, in 1944 and a son, Shelby, in 1964.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home, with burial in Maple Grove cemetery in Boonville, Ind.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today and from 8:30 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Crosspointe Church building fund.

Mary Holder

MARION — Mary Belle Holder, 88, died Sunday, July 23, 2000, at Springlake Care Center in Salem.

She was a member of Seven Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving are seven daughters, Glenda Price and Kathleen Matheny, both of Shelbyville, Ill., Norma Peek of Dycusburg, Gladys Hannis of Wanda, Ill., Bonnie Brooks of Decatur, Ill. and Naomi McClure and Maxine Matthews, both of Marion; a son, Billy of Marion; a sister, Ola Mae Holder of Marion; a brother, William Martin Campbell of Marion; and 160 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Perce; three daughters, Alice Gregory, Ruth Shewcraft and Marie Lynch; a son, Kerry; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Seven Springs Church, with burial in Ashbridge cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Gilbert Funeral Home.

William Baker Sr.

HENDERSON — William N. “Billy” Baker Sr., 56, died Sunday at Community Methodist Hospital. The cause of death has not yet been determined.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Jean; a stepson, Tony Graham of Henderson; a brother, Bobby of Louisville; and 11 step grandchildren.

A son, William Newton Baker II, died in 1990.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today at Fairmont cemetery.

Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home.

Geneva Lindsey

DAWSON SPRINGS - Geneva Lindsey, 71, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, at Senior Citizens Nursing Home. The cause of death has not yet been determined.

She had been a nurse’s aide.

She was a Baptist.

Surviving are a son, Ronald of Illinois; two brothers, William and Mike, both of Madisonville; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Black, and an infant daughter.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Beshear Funeral Home, with burial in Liberty cemetery in Caldwell County.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Tom Stevenson

HENSHAW - Tom D. Stevenson, 83, died Wednesday, Sep. 20, 2000, at his home.

He was a World War II veteran.

He was a member of Henshaw Christian Church and Cat Alley Quail Club.

Surviving are two sons, Tom K. of Sturgis and Bob of Henshaw; a sister, Ann Dawers of Frankfort; two grandchildren; and a great grandchild.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis, with burial in Pythian Ridge cemetery in Sturgis.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony’s Hospice or the American Red Cross.

Sylvia Cowan

MADISONVILLE - Sylvia H. Cowan, 93, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, at Madisonville Regional Medical Center.

She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Betty Arnold of Madisonville and Victoria C. Oliver of Louisville.

Her husband, Victor L., died in 1986.

Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Odd Fellows cemetery.

Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. today at Harris Funeral Home.
