Norman Button, 85, of Pompano Beach, Fla., formerly of Ft. Thomas, died Wednesday at Carmel Manor Nursing Home, Ft. Thomas. He was a certified public accountant and a member of the Ohio and Kentucky Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Survivors include his wife, Claire Zimmer Button; daughters, Sybil McFadden of Wilder, Sabra Button of Cold Spring and Candice Scales of Alexandria; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Cincinnati. Memorials are suggested to Carmel Manor, 100 Carmel Manor Road, Ft. Thomas, Ky. 41075, or the Olympus Center, 38 E. Hollister St., Cincinnati, Ohio 45219. Dobbling Funeral Home, Ft. Thomas, is handling arrangements.

Albert Douglas Eckerle, 63, of Long Beach, Calif., formerly of Latonia, died Nov. 26 at Chapman Harbour Hospital in Garden Grove, Calif. He was an employee of Long Beach School District and a Navy veteran.

Survivors include a brother, Gene Raymond Eckerle of Edgewood; and a sister, Joy Nolan of Edgewood.

Memorial Mass will be at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 27 in the Chapel of Thomas More College. Memorials are suggested to Parish Kitchen, P. O. Box 1234, Covington, Ky. 41012-1234. Strickland & Snively Funeral Home, Long Beach, handled arrangements.

Patricia A. Lowe, 51, of Newport, died Sunday at her home after an extended illness. She was a homemaker and a member of Robbins Street Christian Church, Covington.

Survivors include a daughter, Tracy Lowe of Newport; sons, Jonathan Lowe and Steven Lowe, both of Newport; brothers, Alfred Carter of Newport and Larry Miles of Erlanger; sisters, Betty Sue Bedford and Kimberly Carter, both of Newport, Karen Purry of Los Angeles and Christine Harris of Covington; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the church. Visitation will begin there at 6 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell. Jones & Simpson Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Philip L. Miller, 41, of Monroe, Ohio, formerly of Hebron, died Monday at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, Ohio, of injuries suffered in an auto accident. He was a claims supervisor for AK Steel, the vice mayor of Monroe and a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and the Monroe Lions Club.

Survivors include his wife, Carla C. Miller; daughters, Lesley Miller and Emily Miller, both at home; his father, Carl Miller of Covington; his mother and stepfather, Muriel Fugh and Jim Novak of Hebron; sisters, Paula Miller of Covington, Luanne Lucas of Florence and Jackie Turner of Union; and brothers, Nathan Miller of Las Vegas and Tim Miller of Covington.

Services were this morning at the Zion Lutheran Church in Middletown, Ohio. Burial was in the North Cemetery in Monroe. Memorials are suggested to the Philip L. Miller Memorial Fund, in care of First National Bank Southwestern Ohio, 2 N. Main St., Middletown, Ohio 45044, or to the Zion Lutheran Church Memorial Fund. Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home, Middletown, is handling arrangements.

John Q. Satterfield, 78, of Wilmington, Del., formerly of Covington, died Monday at Christiana Hospital in Newark, Del. He was a retired employee of the Conrail- Pennsylvania marketing department, and a member of St. John the Beloved Church, Wilmington. He also was a Coast Guard veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Betty R. Satterfield; a son, Jon P. Satterfield of Concord, N.H.; a daughter, Carol Sue Fleissner of Covington; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to charity. Connley Bros. Funeral Home, Latonia, is handling arrangements.

Sister Anita Marie Stewart, 83, of Versailles, formerly of Covington, died Wednesday at Taylor Manor Nursing Home, Versailles. She was a Sister of St. Joseph the Worker and taught in schools in central Kentucky and Maryland before coming to work at the Diocese of Covington in 1974. She went to Walton in 1981 to teach at St. Joseph Academy. She later was a secretary and taught bookkeeping to seminarians at St. Pius X Seminary and was a secretary to Bishops Ackerman and Hughes. She retired to Taylor Manor in 1993.

Survivors include brothers, Frank and Jim; and several nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel at Taylor Manor Nursing Home, Versailles. Visitation will be there at 9 a.m. Burial will be in the Sisters cemetery at Taylor Manor.

Emma Mae Stoker, 88, of Burlington, died Tuesday at Gallatin County Health Care Center, Warsaw. She was a retired cigar packer with Ibold Co.

Survivors include a son, Edward D. Stoker of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Fri day at Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church, 14 W. Fifth St., Covington, Ky. 41011.

Robert Louis Thornton, 71, of Morning View, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. He was a switchman and conductor with Southern Railroad, and a Navy veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Betty A. Thornton; a son, Dennis R. Thornton of Celina, Ohio; a sister, Emma Jane Spillman of Florence; and a brother, Thomas R. Thornton of Marianna, Fla.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014.

Floyd Whaley, 75, of Independence, died at 1:16 a.m. today at his residence after an extended illness.

Arrangements are pending at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona.

Elizabeth Whitfield, 76, of Cincinnati, formerly of Covington, died Tuesday at Bethesda Hospital in Cincinnati. She was a retired seamstress.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Whitfield; a daughter, Jessie Lattimore of Cincinnati; a son, Wayne Mays of Cincinnati; a stepson, Garry Whitfield of Madrid, Spain; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Golden Leaf Baptist Church, Cincinnati. Visitation will begin there at 5:30 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati. Jones & Simpson Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Carolyn Krechting of Newport, devoted to family, war on cancer

Carolyn Joan Johnson Krechting suffered with colon cancer for 11 years, but she never complained. Instead, Mrs. Krechting's focus was on conquering the disease. She donated her body to the University of Cincinnati.

"She wanted to help other people and possibly help find a cure for cancer," said a daughter, Sally Hadden of Newport.

"She was a very giving person and very strong and belived in the Lord. She said she was here for a reason. Her body will be studied for three years and then we will bury her."

Mrs. Krechting, 60, a retired employee of the Internal Revenue Service, died Saturday in her Newport home.

Mrs. Krechting liked to sew and enjoyed making crafts.

She loved children. Her grandchildren spent a lot of time with her.

"Her grandchildren were really the light of her life," Ms. Hadden said. "They were her world."

Mrs. Krechting was preceded in death by two sons, Michael Hadden and Melvin Krechting Jr. and three brothers, Joseph Owens, James Johnson and Albert Johnson and a sister Anna Lee Hamm.

Other survivors include her husband, Melvin John Krechting of Newport; daughter, Lois Krechting both of Newport; stepdaughter, Melody Marshall of Lakeland, Fla; sons, Charles Hadden of Newport and Rev. Dana Hadden of Liberty, Ind.; a stepson, Stephen Krechting of Walker, La.; sisters, Sophia Bowman of Covington and Muriel Johnson, Doris Hettel and Nancy Kelly, all of Newport; a brother, Earl Johnson of Lancaster, Pa.; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Christian Tabernacle, 325 Washington , Newport.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Ft. Thomas, Ky. 41075; or the American Cancer Society, 7730 U. S. 42, Suite C6, Florence, Ky. 41042.

Barbara Ellen Woods Cooper, 56, of Brooksville, died at 6:50 a.m. Tuesday at Maysville Extended Care Center. She was a waitress with Shepherd's Restaurant and Bracken County Center, and was a member of Oakland Christian Church, Brooksville.

Survivors include sons, William Glenn Cooper of Newport, Jimmy Allen Cooper of Brooksville, Orville Lynn Cooper of West Virginia, Wendell Dale Cooper of Lexington and Michael Anthony Cooper of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; daughters, Margaret Kay Patrick of El Paso, Texas , Susan Ann Dotson of Tennessee, Elizabeth A. Elhard of Ewing, and Glenis Ellen Boone of Maysville; sisters, Christine Tucker, Ruth West, Pauline Jefferson and Ginny Mae Smith, all of Brooksville, and Eva Jean Nickerson and Betty Barnard, both of Augusta; brothers, Hobart Woods and Clinton Woods, both of Maysville, and Gilbert Woods of Brooksville; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bracken Memorial Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Hope, 1 West McDonald Parkway, Maysville, Ky. 41056.

George Thomas Crouch Sr., 49, of Covington, died at 11 p.m. Saturday near Cleek Lane and U.S. 42 in Boone County in an auto accident. He was a meat cutter with Castellini Co., Cincinnati, and a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietname War.

Survivors include sons, George Thomas Crouch Jr. of Maryville, Ten.., and Brenton Chester Crouch Turner of Independence; his parents, Thomas S. and Madeline Crouch of Independence; sisters, Marlene "Sue" Powell of Independence and Cynthia Finn of Cincinnati; brothers, Joe E. Crouch of Union and Jerry L. Crouch of Independence; and one grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at 1:15 p.m. Friday at Camp Nelson National Cemetery, Nicholasville. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Nancy Walden Crowley, 93, of Dry Ridge, died at 4:55 p.m. Monday at her home. She was a retired seamstress with Fetchheimer Uniform Co., Cincinnati, and a charter member of Central Church of the Nazarene, Ft. Wright. She was a member of the Jewish Hospital Seniors, and the church's Seniors Adult Ministries group. She was a member of Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America.

Her husband, William Crowley, died in 1959. Her sons, James Crowley and William Crowley, died in 1975 and 1981, respectively.

Survivors include daughters, Nina Huff of Villa Hills, Rose Brueckner of Dry Ridge and Virgie Lester of Mason, Ohio; 15 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and four great-great- grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Forest Lawn Cemetery Chapel, Erlanger. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Mason Church of the Nazarene Building Fund, P. O. Box 16, Mason, Ohio, 45040.

Georgetta M. Gassmann Doll, 70, of Cynthiana, died Monday at Harrison Memorial Hospital in Cynthiana. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Robert L. Doll, died in 1994. A daughter, Marsha Doll, died in 1953.

Survivors include daughters, Sandy Gregory of Tennessee and Terrie Lucas of Cynthiana; stepdaughters, Diana Metzger of Cincinnati and Carol Mootz of Hillsboro, Ohio; sisters, Clara Gilb of Ft. Thomas and Anne Lawson of Cincinnati; five grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Bolton & Lunsford Funeral Home, Cincinnati. Visitation will begin there at noon Friday. Burial will be in Bridgetown Cemetery, Cincinnati. Memorials are suggested to St. Edwards Church, 123 S. Walnut St., Cynthiana, Ky. 41031.

Vera A. Goodridge Dolwick, 90, of Hebron, died Monday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of Hebron Lutheran Church. Her husband, Gilbert L. Dolwick, died in 1973.

Survivors include a daughter, Elva A. Malott of Hebron; a son, Gary L. Dolwick of Florence; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
