Dorothy Shelton

HENDERSON - Dorothy Lucile Shelton, 91, died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at the home of her daughter, Dorothy J. Shirley in Evansville.

She was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star and the First Missionary Baptist Church in Henderson and a 30-year member of the choir.

Also surviving are a son, John G. Shirley of Evansville; six grandchildren, Sherrilynn Tolliver, Daryl Mitchell, John Jr. and Diane Shirley and Pamela and Timothy Horn; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Missionary Baptist Church, with burial in Fernwood cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Mason Bros. Memorial Chapel in Evansville is handling arrangements.

David Overby

HENDERSON - David Overby, 49, died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at Medco Center in Henderson of complications of cancer.

He was an Episcopalian.

Surviving are his wife of 19 years, Barbara; a stepdaughter, Beth Branson of Henderson; a son, Landon E. of Washington, D.C.; two stepsons, Jason and Robert Branson, both of Henderson; a sister, Gail Rush of Clearwater, Fla.; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home, with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alcoholics Anonymous.

Agnes Keller

DIXON - Agnes Keller, 84, died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at Madisonville Regional Medical Center.

She was a member and treasurer of Slover Baptist Church in Dixon.

Surviving are her husband, Noah Joe; a daughter, Jo Ann Scales of Evansville; two sons, Jerry of Owensboro and Eddie of Dixon; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. at Slover Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today, from 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Townsend Funeral Home and from 1 p.m. to service time at the church.

Jacqueline Combs

MADISONVILLE — Jacqueline E. Combs, 52, died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at Madisonville Regional Medical Center of renal failure.

She had worked for Natural Resources Conservation in Madisonville, was a graduate of Earlington High School and a member of the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Earlington, where she was a member of the Mass choir and former youth choir director.

Surviving are her daughter, Priestly Combs of Madisonville; her mother, Gwendolyn A. Moore of Clarksville, Tenn.; her father, Henry Russell Holland of Jamaica, N.Y.; nine sisters, Cheryl B. William, Marilyn M. Smith, Carolyn M. Marsh and Eva Lisenby, all of Clarksville, Armentis Fletcher of Belleville, Mich., Mary A. Holland, Hope Harlem Burns and Donya Maxfield, all of Queens, N.Y., and Dianna Magnitico of Avery, N.Y. and four brothers, Mylian Martin of Clarksville, Tyris Holland of Germany, and Mark and Billy Holland, both of Queens.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Earlington, with burial in Oakwood cemetery there.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to service time. Mason & Sons Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Margaret Johnson

MADISONVILLE — Margaret Frances (Briggs) Johnson, 86, died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at Madisonville Regional Medical Center.

She had worked as the assistant manager of F.W. Woolworth in Madisonville and was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Jo Ann Billings of Madisonville; a son, Donald R. of Madisonville; three grandchildren, Margaret Furgerson, Patricia Vandemark and Jimmy Pendley; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee, in 1988, a daughter, Alice F. Johnson, and two sons, Kenneth and William “Bill.”

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Harris Funeral Home, with burial in Odd Fellows cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

O.D. Collins

OWENSBORO — O.D. Collins, 82, of Glenville, died Friday, July 6, 2001, at his home.

He was a carpenter and concrete finisher for Lanham Brothers Construction, a World War II veteran, a Baptist and a member of the Eagles and the McLean County Fish & Game.

Surviving are two daughters, Susan G. Vance of Glenville and Marie Gregory of South Carolton; three sons, Vavie C., Billie and Milton W., all of Owensboro; a brother, Russell of Evansville; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. His wife, Mary Agnes, died in 1997.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home, with burial in Calhoun cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

John Hanks

HENDERSON - John D. Hanks, 86, died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at Angel River Health & Rehabilitation in Newburgh.

He retired after more than 25 years with the Eaton Axle divisions in Cleveland and Henderson, working in various managements positions.

He attended Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, was a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers and the American Ordinance Association, Forest City Yacht Club in Cleveland and the Henderson Country Club. He was a Kentucky Colonel and past commodore of Rotary International.

Surviving are three daughters, Dolores Miller of Hollywood, Fla., and Jeanne Kirkham and Patricia Hanks, both of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a son, John of Flower Mound, Texas; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. His wife, Anne Marie, died in 1985.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home, with burial in Fernwood cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Amelia Krieger

HENDERSON - Amelia Klutey Krieger, 92, of Haworth, N.J., died Saturday, June 30, 2001, at her home.

She had worked at the Audubon Museum in Henderson.

She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Haworth, Audubon Society, Haworth Leasure Club, Bergen County Museum and was co-chairperson of the Haworth Bicentennial Committee.

Surviving are a niece and nephew. Her husband, William J., died in 1983.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. today at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Haworth, N.J., with graveside services at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fernwood cemetery in Henderson. There will be no visitation at Tapp Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to her church in Haworth.

Edna Neal

MARION — Edna (Sigler) Neal, 98, died Tuesday, July, 3, 2001, at Crittenden County Hospital.

She was a member of Pleasant Hill Church.

Surviving are nieces and a nephew.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Gilbert Funeral Home, with burial in Pleasant Hill cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to service time.

Mary Duncan

OWENSBORO — Mary Louise Duncan, 68, of Philpot, died Monday, July 2, 2001, at her home of cancer.l

She had been an executive secretary. She was a teacher’s aide at at Whitesville Elementary School.

She was an active member of the Dawson Baptist Church, serving on committees and as assistant pianist.

Surviving are her husband of 50 years, Glenn R.; two sons, Ed of Dallas and Tim of Mount Juliet, Tenn.; two brothers, Ed Sinclair of Owensboro and Robert L. of Nashville, Tenn.; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at James H. Davis Funeral Home, with burial in Pleasant Grove cemetery in Sorgho.

Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. today and from 8:30 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to her church.

Nettie Rhodes

OWENSBORO — Nettie Sweeney Rhodes, died Monday, July 2, 2001, at her home in Paducah.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Paducah and former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Owensboro.

Surviving are her husband of 53 years, Allan; two sons, Allan Jr. of Paducah and Robert Todd of Fort Worth, Texas; two grandchildren; and a niece.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church in Owensboro, with committal service at 10 a.m. Friday at Elmwood cemetery.

There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Paducah.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church in Owensboro or Paducah. James H. Davis Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Glenna Mills

OWENSBORO — Glenna (Boarman) Mills, 85, died Monday, July 2, 2001, at Bon Harbor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

She retired from General Electric and was a member of Immaculate Catholic Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Sherry Haefele of Spencer, N.Y.; a son, Patrick of Owensboro; a brother, Frank Boarman of Lewisburg; and three grandchildren. Her husband, Arthur A., died in 1976.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Immaculate Catholic Church, with burial in Resurrection cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8p.m. Thursday, with a prayer service at 6 p.m.
