28 September 1998

BELTON - Scottie Hornsby, 18, of Belton died Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. He was born in Hopkins County, was employed by J&L Cleaning Service at Logan Aluminum and was a member of Riverside Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his parents, Keith and Sherry Lovell of Belton and Timothy Hornsby of Springfield, Tenn.; his stepfather, Jerry Rickman of Beechmont; his grandparents, Bob and Naomi Chumley of Browder and Jeanetta Hornsby of Central City; and a brother, Doug Rickman of Belton.

Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery in Muhlenberg County. Visitation is after 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Clay Hatcher
29 September 1998

Clay Hatcher, 52, of 3419 Arlington Drive, Owensboro, died Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. He was born in Morgantown, served in the Army and retired as owner and operator of Clay's Bumper Service. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing, auctions and flea markets.

Survivors include his companion of 17 years, Mary Day; three sons, Victor Hatcher, Rick Hatcher and Jeff Harper, all of Owensboro; a daughter, Lisa Jackson of Owensboro; eight grandchildren; his mother, Elizabeth Willoughby Hatcher of Owensboro; four brothers, Carl J. Hatcher of Utica and Billy R. Hatcher, Wendell G. Hatcher and Jimmy K. Hatcher, all of Owensboro; and three sisters, Peggy Wilson, Laura McPherson and Sherril Coleman, all of Owensboro.

Services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday at James H. Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Jesse F. 'Jess' Aldridge
27 September 1998

Jesse F. "Jess" Aldridge, 80, of 1320 Barnetts Creek Road, Utica, died Friday, Sept. 25, 1998, at his home. He was born in Breckinridge County, was a retired farmer and was of the Holiness faith.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Goldie Sosh Aldridge; four sons, Eugene Aldridge of Garfield, Finley Aldridge of Utica, Danny Aldridge of Owensboro and Donnie Aldridge of Whitesville; two daughters, Phyllis Lee of Utica and Brenda Baize of Hartford; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, James Aldridge and Paul Aldridge, both of Utica; and four sisters, Nora Nottingham, Lily Smith, Cora Lindsey and Margaret Noble, all of Owensboro.

Services are at 10 a.m. Monday at James H. Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Graveside services are at 1 p.m. Monday at West View cemetery in Breckinridge County. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Dorothy Irene Sacra
25 September 1998

Dorothy Irene Sacra, 68, of 7070 Masonville-Habit Road, Philpot, died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. She was born in Anderson County, was a homemaker and was of the Church of Christ faith. She enjoyed gardening, needlepoint and painting crafts.

Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Thomas R. Sacra; a son, Ronald Sacra of Coconut Creek, Fla.; two daughters, Sharon Watkins of Earlington and Janet Schroader of Owensboro; and two grandchildren.

Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Friendship Baptist Church cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

James Albert Morris
27 September 1998

James Albert Morris, 56, of 25A Harry Smith Apartments, Owensboro, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, at Hermitage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Daviess County and was a farmer. He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed listening to gospel music.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Martha Morris; two sons, Cletes "Albert" Morris and James "Earl" Morris, both of Owensboro; two daughters, Cindy Gilson of Owensboro and Tricia Vanover of Panther; three grandchildren; two brothers, Mitchell Morris and Roger Morris, both of Owensboro; and five sisters, Betty Jones, Ann Nugent, Linda Morris and Edna Jewell, all of Owensboro, and Edith Hudson of Evansville.

Services are at 2 p.m. today at James H. Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Visitation is after noon today at the funeral home.

Robert Lee 'Bob' Day
24 September 1998

Robert Lee "Bob" Day, 85, of 1412 Robin Road, Owensboro, died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, at Hermitage Manor Nursing Home in Owensboro. He was born in Daviess County, retired from General Electric Co. in 1975 after more than 40 years of service and was a member of Seven Hills Baptist Church in Owensboro since 1936, where he was ordained a deacon in 1947 and taught Sunday school for many years. He was a fan of University of Kentucky basketball and St. Louis Cardinals baseball. He and his wife sang gospel music with the Ambassador Quartet for several years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby I. Day on Nov. 15, 1991; and a son, Curtis Lee Day in 1949.

Survivors include a son, Darrell L. Day of Owensboro; a daughter, Robbie D. Boatwright of Lakeland, Fla.; four grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; one great-grandchild; six stepgreat-grandchildren; two sisters, Nellie Eans of Owensboro and Mildred Wethington of Birmingham, Ala.; one nephew; and three nieces.

Services are at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at James H. Davis Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Hospice Association, 723 Harvard Drive, Owensboro, KY 42301. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Nancy Nation Hayden
29 September 1998

CALHOUN - Nancy Nation Hayden, 93, of Calhoun died Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. She was born in Daviess County, was a homemaker and was a member of Calhoun Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting. Her husband, Eugene "Dutch" Hayden, died Nov. 22, 1985.

Survivors include a son, Charles E. Hayden of Calhoun; two daughters, Armelia Feaster and Elizabeth Fulkerson, both of Calhoun; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Johnny Nation and George Nation, both of Owensboro; three sisters, Tina Rafferty and Mable Sands, both of Owensboro, and Elizabeth Whitehouse of Rocky River, Ohio; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel. Burial will be in Calhoun cemetery. Visitation is after 4 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Calhoun Baptist Church, Building Fund, c/o Muster Funeral Homes, P.O. Box 160, Calhoun, KY 42327. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Offie Lee 'Footney' Allen
27 September 1998

Offie Lee "Footney" Allen, 83, of Bon Harbor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Owensboro, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. He was born in Daviess County, retired from Glenmore Distillery as a foreman and was former owner and operator of Allen's Shell Station in Owensboro. He was a member of SS. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church, was former president of the C.B. Club of Owensboro and was a Kentucky Colonel. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Frances Allen, in 1983.

Survivors include two daughters, Pat O'Bryan of Owensboro and Liz Bellew of Knoxville, Tenn.; four grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Frances Mattingly of Owensboro, Catherine Cole of Henderson and Mary Ruth Safford of Bowling Green.

Services are at 11 a.m. Monday at SS. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church in Owensboro. Burial will be in Resurrection cemetery in Philpot. Visitation is from 2 to 7 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Prayers will be said at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to St. Vincent DePaul Society, SS. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church, 423 Clay St., Owensboro, KY 42303. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Eric Shane Rice
28 September 1998

Eric Shane Rice, 4-month-old son of Donald and Shelby Rice of 3804 Raintree Drive, Owensboro, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, at his home. He was born in Daviess County and attended Walnut Memorial Baptist Church.

Other survivors include his grandparents, Charles and Rachel Jacques of Lewisport, Marilyn Rice of Owensboro and Larry Rice of Leitchfield; his great-grandparents, Bob and Marjorie Keenan of Owensboro; his great-great-grandmother, Louise Pate of Cloverport; a sister, Corie Rice at home; several uncles and aunts; and several cousins.

Services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Leo McIntosh
24 September 1998

GREENVILLE - Leo McIntosh, 59, of Greenville died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998, at his home. He was born in Muhlenberg County, was a self-employed logger and was a member of Luzerne General Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Glenda Gray McIntosh; a son, Scott McIntosh of Greenville; a daughter, Melissa McIntosh Vick of Shelbyville; four grandchildren; three brothers, James McIntosh and Billy McIntosh, both of Greenville, and Wayne McIntosh of Owensboro; and two sisters, Inez Gray of Henderson and Dorothy Killiams of Greenville.

Services are at 11 a.m. Friday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens in Powderly. Visitation is after 3 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Catherine Ferry Johnson
28 September 1998

HARDINSBURG - Catherine Ferry Johnson, 66, of McDaniels died Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998, at Norton Hospital in Louisville. She was born in Breckinridge County, retired as a seamstress from Louisville Manufacturing Co. and was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Axtel. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Marvin Woodrow Ferry in 1975 and Albert W. Johnson in 1992.

Survivors include two sons, Marvin Preston Ferry of Louisville and Charles Edward Ferry of McDaniels; three daughters, Roxanne Ferry of Brandenburg, Margaret Lynn White of Hardinsburg and Geanie Marie Compton of Hardinsburg; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, John Preston Clark Jr. of McDaniels; and a sister, Margaret Francis Barr of McDaniels.

Services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Anthony cemetery in Axtel. Visitation is from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg. Prayers will be said at 5:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mary Ruth Spence
26 September 1998

Mary Ruth Spence, 86, of 1000 Walnut St., Owensboro, died Thursday, Sept. 24, 1998, at Ohio County Hospital in Hartford. She was born in Owensboro, was a homemaker and was a member of First Assembly of God in Owensboro. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Cecil Spence, June 8, 1964; and two daughters, Doris Worthington, Oct. 14, 1964, and Linda Spence, Sept. 19, 1949.

Survivors include three sons, William Spence of Curdsville, Terry Spence of Owensboro and Gary Spence of Tempe, Ariz.; four daughters, Gladys Payne of Whitesville, Brenda Tucker of Calhoun and Marlene Henton and Frances Hoover, both of Hartford; eight grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; 14 stepgreat-grandchildren; three step great-great-grandchildren; a brother, James "Jeff" McCarty of Owensboro; and a sister, Mildred Sallee of Calhoun.

Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Muster Funeral Homes, Livermore Chapel. Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
