POWDERLY - Norma Dow Dennison, 78, of Central City died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999, at her daughter's home in Powderly. She was born in Muhlenberg County, was a homemaker and was of the Pentecostal denomination.

Survivors include a son, Jim Dennison of Greenville; a daughter, Patricia Whitehouse of Powderly; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a brother, Junior Bryan of Powderly; and a sister, Mae Doll Rice of Chicago.

Services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

John Tilman Porter
28 September 1998

John Tilman Porter, 78, of 2505 Middleground Drive, Owensboro, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. He was born in Bernice, La., and retired from Texas Gas Transmission Corp. after 35 years of service. He was a member of Masonville Baptist Church and a Masonic Lodge in Louisiana. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, reading and watching baseball and basketball.

Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Hazel G. Porter; a son, Dr. Johnny Ray Porter of Metairie, La.; a daughter, Sharon Lee Kelly of Madisonville; two stepdaughters, Sharron M. Young and Darlina M. Etienne, both of Owensboro; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Edna Stewart of Bernice; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at Masonville Baptist Church. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 9 a.m. Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to either Masonville Baptist Church, 6601 U.S. 231, Utica, KY 42376 or American Cancer Society, 2229-A New Hartford Road, Owensboro, KY 42303. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Lois Cline Schenk
25 September 1998

Lois Cline Schenk, 75, of 1668 Glendale Ave., Owensboro, died Thursday, Sept. 24, 1998, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. She was born in McLean County and was a member of Nickel Ridge Holiness Church. She retired as a cook and worked for the Daviess County Board of Education, Owensboro Country Club and Southside Barbecue. She was preceded in death by three sons, James Walter Cline, Robert Cline Jr. and Wilbur C. Cline.

Survivors include her husband of 34 years, Earl Winston Schenk; three sons, William Cline of Moseleyville, David Cline of Owensboro and Roy Cline of Central City; seven daughters, Barbara Clawson, Mary Clawson, Helen Taylor, Shirley Sapp and Brenda Midkiff, all of Owensboro, Margie Shreve of Ohio County and Judy Crouch of Flagler Beach, Fla.; a stepson, Gary Robinson of Bellevue; a stepdaughter, Jackie Feldman of Bellevue; 42 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services are at 10 a.m. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Nickel Ridge cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Daniel Pitino Shelter, 501 Walnut St., Owensboro, KY 42301. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Lucille McClellan Harper
29 November 1998

CLEATON - Lucille McClellan Harper, 83, of Cleaton died Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998, at Maple Manor Nursing Home in Greenville. She was born in Muhlenberg County and was a member of Cleaton Baptist Church, where she served as Sunday school secretary for 47 years.

Survivors include three sisters, Louise Stines of St. Joseph, Mich., Lorene Martin of Goodlettsville, Tenn., and Lenora Hamilton of Elkhart, Ind.

Services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will be in Rochester cemetery. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Ruby Benton Robinson
1 December 1998

ROCHESTER - Ruby Benton Robinson, 99, of Rochester died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. She was born in Ohio County, was a housewife and was a charter member of Union Chapel General Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allie Robinson; and two sons, T.A. Robinson and Glen Robinson.

Survivors include two sons, Wilbur Robinson of Greenville and Johnnie Robinson of Austin, Texas; six daughters, Anna B. Prince of Pleasure Ridge Park, Lois Harper of Birmingham, Ala., June McClearn of Atlanta, Donna Holloway of Maceo, Hilda Howell of Owensboro and Carolyn Thomas of Williston, S.C.; 23 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Ray Benton of Ennis; and a sister, Mabel Sullivan of Ennis.

Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at Smith Funeral Home in Morgantown. Burial will be in Rochester cemetery. Visitation is after noon Wednesday at the funeral home.

Jerry Bennett Millard
1 December 1998

CENTRAL CITY - Jerry Bennett Millard, 97, of Central City died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. He was born in Muhlenberg County and was formerly the owner of Jerry's Cafe in Central City, owner of a chicken farm, a coal miner, a county road engineer and the owner of Greenville Hotel. He was the oldest member of Cherry Hill Baptist Church in Central City and was also a member of W.P.A. He was a Kentucky Colonel and was active in the Democratic Party. His wife, Lucille Payne Millard, died in 1984.

Survivors include a daughter, Julia Ann Spahr of Wilmington, N.C.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Belva Millard of Greenville and William Millard of Louisville.

Edward Davis Hardy Jr.
1 December 1998

LOUISVILLE - Edward Davis Hardy Jr., 76, of Louisville died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at Norton Hospital in Louisville. He was born in Gallatin, Tenn., retired as vice president from Hayes Electric Co. after 15 years of service and was formerly employed by Hatfield Electric Co. for eight years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, was a member of the Sea Bee First Battalion Marine Division at Okinawa and was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church in Louisville, Progress Masonic Lodge No. 932, Order of the Eastern Star Victory Chapter 447, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers No. 369 and Highland Kiwanis Club.

Survivors include his wife, Glenda Lindsey-Phelps-Hardy; two sons, Tim Hardy and Mike Phelps, both of Louisville; two daughters, Cindy Hagan of Owensboro and Cathy Hartlage of Louisville; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Gregory of Louisville.

Services are at 2 p.m. EST Thursday at Highlands Funeral Home in Louisville. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park in Louisville. Visitation is from 2 to 5 p.m. EST and from 7 to 9 p.m. EST today and Wednesday at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Clara Nussbaum Building Fund. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Joyce deBruler Cook

FORDSVILLE - Joyce deBruler Cook of Jeffersontown, formerly of Fordsville, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998, at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville. She was born in Lake County, Ind., was employed as a senior administrative assistant at Res-Care Inc. in Louisville since 1981 and was a member of Fordsville Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Britt Renee Cook of Nashville, Tenn.; her mother, Grace deBruler of Fordsville; four sisters, Carol R. Travis of Louisville, Linda G. Ratliff of Fordsville, Patsy H. Westerfield of Owensboro and Janice S. Crowder of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; one nephew; five nieces; three great-nephews; and two great-nieces.

Services are at 2 p.m. Monday at Harl Funeral Home in Fordsville. Burial will be in Fordsville cemetery. Visitation is from 1 to 8 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to either the National Retinitis Pigmentosa Foundation or the American Heart Association.

Sammie 'Joe Joe' Bolling
1 December 1998

Sammie "Joe Joe" Bolling, 25, of 1439 W. Fourth St., Owensboro, died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at his home. He was born in Owensboro and was of the Pentecostal faith. He attended Apollo High School and was a cook at Hardee's Restaurant on West Parrish Avenue in Owensboro.

Survivors include two daughters, Samantha Jo Bolling and Brittany Gail Bolling, both of Owensboro; his mother, Mary Ruth Bolling of Owensboro; three brothers, Wavie Lee Bolling of Chandler, Ind., and Charles R. McCarty and Terry G. McCarty, both of Owensboro; and a sister, Sherry L. Howard of Owensboro.

Services are at 1 p.m. Thursday at James H. Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in New Bethel cemetery in Ohio County. Visitation is after 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Pearl Y. Wright
2 December 1998

Pearl Y. Wright, 86, of 245 Cardinal Lane, Owensboro, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998, at Leisure Years Nursing Home in Owensboro. She was born in Hancock County and retired from Field Packing Co. and from Owensboro-Daviess County Hospital. She was a member of Full Gospel Tabernacle, was a former member of Memorial Tabernacle and enjoyed crocheting and quilting. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Bradley Wright on July 26, 1970; and a daughter, Olvalena Wright on July 31, 1964.

Survivors include three sons, James Everett Wright, Roy Wright and Cletus Wright, all of Owensboro; a daughter, Maxine Wright Johnson of Owensboro; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Earl Young of Hawesville and Roy Young and Louie Young, both of Owensboro; and two sisters, Elizabeth Keith of Olaton and Dorothy Hendricks of Owensboro.

Services are at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at James H. Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Emogene Austin
1 December 1998

Emogene Austin, 83, of Hawesville, formerly of Owensboro, died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at Hermitage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Owensboro. She was born in McLean County and was a member of Rumsey United Methodist Church. Her husband, Woodward Austin, died March 11, 1995.

Survivors include two sisters, Nova J. Welborn of Rumsey and Ava Christine McGehee of Calhoun; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at James H. Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Calhoun cemetery. Visitation is after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mary Davis Stephens
7 September 1998

Mary Elizabeth Davis Stephens, 87, of 618 E. Ninth St., Owensboro, died Saturday, Sept. 5, 1998, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. She was born in Ohio County and retired from General Electric Co. She enjoyed music, cooking, spending time with her family and all types of flowers, especially roses. Her husband, Edward H. Stephens, died Feb. 10, 1996.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda Lamar and Lisa Lamar, both of Owensboro; a brother, Wilbur Thomas Davis of Masonville; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Resurrection cemetery in Philpot. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
