William Larken Veteto

HORSE BRANCH - William Larken Veteto, 86, of Horse Branch died Friday, Nov. 27, 1998, at his niece's home in Olaton. He was born in Grayson County, was a retired farmer and was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. He graduated from Horse Branch High School in 1934, where he was a star basketball player and was a Kentucky Colonel. He was an Army veteran of World War II, where he was a medic and attended four years of agriculture school after the war.

Survivors include five nephews; three nieces; several great-nephews and great-nieces; several great-great-nephews and great-great-nieces; and several great-great-great-nephews and great-great-great-nieces.

Services are at 1 p.m. Monday at Duke Bevil Bros. Funeral Home in Hartford. Burial will be in Oller cemetery in Grayson County. Visitation is from 3:30 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to either Hospice of Ohio County or the Shiloh United Methodist Church Building Fund. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Dorothy Phillips Sircy
2 December 1998

Dorothy Phillips Sircy, 74, of 1651 W. Fourth St., Apt. 214, Owensboro, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. She was born in Henderson County, was formerly employed by Rosedale Nursing Home in Owensboro and was a member of Garden Green Baptist Church in Owensboro. Her husband, Freeman Sircy, died in 1986.

Survivors include a brother, Johnnie Phillips of Owensboro; and three sisters, Irene Phillips, Pauline Cox and Della Johnson, all of Owensboro.

Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Rosalee M. Scarpace
2 December 1998

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Rosalee McIntyre Scarpace, 84, of Shelby Township died Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998, at Shelby Nursing Center. She was born in Maceo and graduated from Daviess County High School in 1931, where she was the valedictorian. Her husband, John C. Scarpace, died in 1984.

Survivors include a son, James Scarpace of Shelby Township; a daughter, Carol Nix of St. Claire Shores, Mich.; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Harold McIntyre of Owensboro; and two sisters, Nancy Roberts of Lewisport and Jane Vincent of Owensboro.

Services were held Monday at William Sullivan and Son Funeral Home in Utica, Mich. Entombment was in Mount Olivet cemetery in Detroit.

Verna Kilpatrick Rix
27 September 1998

Verna Kilpatrick Rix, 85, of Owensboro died Friday, Sept. 25, 1998, at Hermitage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Owensboro. She was born in Wilmington, Ill., retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Braidwood, Ill. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Craig Kilpatrick, September 1969, and her second husband, Clarence Rix, in 1989.

Survivors include two sons, Wayne Kilpatrick of Braidwood and Don Kilpatrick of Webb City, Mo.; a daughter, Jeanne Kessell of Owensboro; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Vivian Riess of Norridge, Ill.

Memorial services are at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, 1998, at First Presbyterian Church in Braidwood. James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro is in charge of arrangements. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to First Presbyterian Church, 171 S. Lincoln St., Braidwood, IL 60408. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Velma Hodge Martin
28 September 1998

GEORGETOWN - Velma Hodge Martin, 56, of Georgetown, formerly of Greenville, died Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. She was born in Middlesboro, retired as a teacher and taught at Muhlenberg and Scott counties' schools. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Georgetown, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the Great Crossings Homemakers.

Survivors include her husband, Howitt C. Martin; two sons, Brian Martin of Columbus, Ohio, and Rodney Martin of Miami; a daughter, Dana Martin of Georgetown; one grandchild; her parents, James Hodge of Middlesboro and Dorothy Bailey Hodge of Georgetown; three brothers, Van Hodge, Norman Hodge and Larry Hodge, all of Louisville; and a sister, Linda Baker of Clinton, Tenn.

Services are at 10 a.m. EDT Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Georgetown. Burial will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Reynolds cemetery in Greenville. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. EDT Tuesday at Johnson's Funeral Home in Georgetown and after 9:30 a.m. EDT Wednesday at the church. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Multiple Sclerosis Society, 835 W. Jefferson St., Suite 105, Louisville, KY 40202. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Katie Lou Bivins
27 September 1998

Katie Lou Bivins, 87, of 119 W. 17th St., Apt. B., Owensboro, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, at Bon Harbor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Owensboro. She was born in Daviess County and was employed as a clerk for 50 years at General Electric, the Cigar Factory, Hooks Drugs and Dennis & Akers Drugs. She was a member of SS. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, L.G. Bivins, December 1968.

Survivors include a brother, George Miles of Owensboro; a sister, Myrtle Geary of Owensboro; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at SS. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church in Owensboro. Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home.

Cletus J. Morris
27 September 1998

Cletus J. Morris, 75, of 3623 Hayden Road, Owensboro, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. He was born in Hancock County, retired from farming and National Southwire and Aluminum after 18 years, and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Opal Morris; two sons, Donald C. Morris of Louisville and Keith Morris of Owensboro; a daughter, Faye Ann Jones of Newport Beach, Calif.; three grandchildren; five brothers, Marshall Morris, Wilford Lee Morris and Wayne Morris, all of Hawesville, Larry Morris of Owensboro and Ralph Morris of Phoenix; and six sisters, Lorine Swihart, Ida B. Swihart, Eva Dell Spencer, Edna Mae Martin and Darlene Voyles, all of Hawesville, and Margie Day of Indianapolis.

Services are at 2 p.m. Monday at Macedonia Baptist Church in Owensboro. Burial will be in Serenity Hills cemetery in Hawesville. Visitation is from noon to 7 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Macedonia Baptist Church Building Fund, 4839 Millers Mill Road, Owensboro, KY 42303. Patricia Waitman Quinn

ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. - Patricia Waitman Quinn, 79, of Zephyrhills, Fla., died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at Arbors at Tampa (Fla.). She was born in Newman, retired from Jackson Byron's and was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Owensboro and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was preceded in death by her husband, H. Charles Quinn.

Survivors include a son, Louis A. Waitman II of Tampa; two daughters, Marcia Kester of St. Simons Island, Ga., and Noel Cheshire of Denver; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Norbourne B. Cooke of Folsom, Calif., and Stephen Cooke of Kaufman, Texas; and a sister, Janice Millay of Owensboro.

Services are at 2 p.m. Monday at Trinity Episcopal Church. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday and from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Ruby Marcella Scarborough

Ruby Marcella Scarborough, 88, of 5930 Kentucky 142, Philpot, formerly of Roosevelt House I, Owensboro, died Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999, at her home. She was born in Owensboro, was a retired secretary and was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Owensboro. Her husband, Herbert R. Scarborough, died in 1962.

Survivors include several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mater Dolorosa cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro. Prayers will be said at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Suella Harrison Abbott

REYNOLDS STATION - Suella Harrison Abbott, 78, of Reynolds Station died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, at her home. She was born in Ohio County and was a member of Whitesville Baptist Church. Her husband, Everett Abbott, died in 1974.

Survivors include two sons, Tommy Abbott of Reynolds Station and Jim Abbott of Bowling Green; three daughters, Jane Abbott of Reynolds Station, Susan Jarboe of Tell City, Ind., and Jennifer Northern of Owensboro; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, John Harrison of Lewisport; two sisters, Georgia Crowe of Deanefield and Mary Dean Dwire of Owensboro; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at Whitesville Baptist Church. Burial will be in Cates cemetery in Whitesville. Visitation is after 2:30 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Thursday at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Kentucky Baptist Children's Home. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

William 'Swinger' Babb Sr.
2 February 1999

MADISONVILLE - William Warren "Swinger" Babb Sr., 53, of Madisonville died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville. He was born in Hopkins County and was a loader operator for Madisonville Stone.

Survivors include a son, William Warren Babb Jr.; a daughter, Toni Michelle Babb Boone of Owensboro; three grandchildren; his mother, Mae Dexter Babb of Madisonville; a brother, James Walton Babb of Madisonville; two sisters, Linda Carrol Oldham and Deloris Jean Pharris, both of Slaughters; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home in Madisonville. Burial will be in Hicklin cemetery in Anton. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Helen Joyce Barnes
2 February 1999

Helen Joyce Galloway Barnes, 62, of Osprey, Fla., formerly of Owensboro, died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, at her home. She was born in Daviess County, was a homemaker and was of the Catholic faith.

Survivors include three sons, Dan Barnes and Patrick Barnes, both of Slaterville Springs, N.Y., and Thomas Barnes of North Port, Fla.; a daughter, Nancy Barnes of Virginia; three grandchildren; her mother, Helen Galloway of Owensboro; four brothers, Tony Galloway, Pat Galloway, Bob Galloway and Joe Galloway, all of Owensboro; and three sisters, Betty Galloway of Cape Coral, Fla., and Sue Boines and Rosemary Hagan, both of Owensboro.

Services are at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Whitesville. Burial will be in Mater Dolorosa cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home. Prayers will be said at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church, 10534 Main Cross, P.O. Box 1, Whitesville, KY 42378.
