MADISONVILLE - Florence Vincent Turner, 91, of Madisonville, formerly of Cleaton, died Sunday, April 18, 1999, at NHC HealthCare in Madisonville. She was born in Muhlenberg County and was a member of Cleaton Baptist Church. She was a homemaker, a salesperson and a nurses aide. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Turner, in 1991; and a son.

Survivors include a daughter, Evanell McDonald of Madisonville; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Thomas J. Vincent of Greenville; two sisters, Stella Miller of Sacramento and Pearl Short of Depoy; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Harris Funeral Home Chapel in Madisonville. Burial will be in Mount Pisgah cemetery near Bremen. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today and after 8 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Gideons International. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Celeste S. Daniels
3 April 1999

Celeste Storm Daniels, infant daughter of Amber Hendricks and Thomas Daniels of Owensboro, died Thursday, April 1, 1999, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. She was born in Owensboro.

Survivors include maternal grandparents, James and Cathy Warren of Owensboro; maternal grandparents, Harvey and Norma Hendricks of Lewisport; paternal grandmother, Nancy Daniels of Owensboro; paternal grandfather, Bobby Daniels of Owensboro; maternal great-grandparents, Harry and Lavon Gross of Centertown; maternal great-great grandmother, Allie Cole of Centertown; and several cousins.

Graveside services are at 3 p.m. today at Elmwood cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 2 to 2:45 p.m. today at James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro.

James R. 'Ronnie' Simmons
16 July 1999

James R. 'Ronnie' Simmons, 52, of 1112 Halifax Drive, Owensboro, died Sunday, July 11, 1999, at Cornwall Regional Hospital in Montego Bay, Jamaica. He was born in Daviess County. He was a member of Pleasant Point Baptist Church and attended Owensboro Christian Church. He was crew leader for the Facilities Maintenance Department of the City of Owensboro and he enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include his wife, Jane E. Noble; a stepson, J. David Noble of Atlanta; a stepdaughter, Debyne Noble Sowder of Lexington; four stepgrandchildren; a brother, Harold Simmons of South Bend, Ind.; and a sister, Dorothy Simmons of Owensboro.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday at Owensboro Christian Church. Burial will be in Pleasant Point Baptist Church cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to either the American Cancer Society, Hospice or the charity of one's choice.

Teresa Cecil Ling
24 January 1999

Teresa Cecil Ling, 84, of Owensboro died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, in Owensboro. She was born in Daviess County and was a member of Immaculate Catholic Church. She retired from Glenmore Distilleries and retired as a beautician after 40 years.

Survivors include three daughters, Margi Johnstone of Louisville and Joy Miller and Lori Winstead, both of Owensboro; six grandchildren; two brothers, Clem Cecil and Louis Cecil, both of Owensboro; and five sisters, Margaret Oberst, Jean Keller and Alicia Wright, all of Owensboro, Toby Matthews of Drexel Hill, Pa., and Polly Leibfreid of Bowling Green.

Services are at 11 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Catholic Church in Owensboro. Burial will be in Mater Dolorosa cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Prayers will be said at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Wendell Foster Center, P.O. Box 1668, Owensboro, KY 42302-1668. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Dora H. 'Jo' Moseley
23 April 1999

Dora H. "Jo" Moseley, 65, of 1549 East 26th St., Owensboro, died Thursday, April 22, 1999, at her home. She was born in McLean County, was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Moseley, in 1995; and a daughter, Janice M. Moseley, in 1966.

Survivors include four sons, Billy Hatfield of Owensboro, Jim Hatfield of Bloomington, Ill., and Gary R. Moseley and Bobby Moseley, both of Owensboro; two daughters, Martha Embry and Diane Hatfield, both of Owensboro; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services are at 11 a.m. Monday at Haley-McGinnis Chapel. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to either the First Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund, 4314 West Fifth Street Road, Owensboro, KY 42301; or Hospice Association Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 1403, Owensboro, KY 42302-9925. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Delbert F. Slaughter
23 April 1999

ELKTON - Delbert Franklin "Gravey Legs" Slaughter, 68, of Elkton died Wednesday, April 21, 1999, at his home. He was born in Todd County, retired as a coal miner from Air Gem Coal Company and was formerly employed at Pipe Line Division where he laid oil, gas and water lines.

Survivors include his wife, Deetra Slaughter; two sons, Freddie Slaughter of Greenville and Ronnie Slaughter of Anthony, Fla.; three daughters, Gayla Smith of Easley, S.C., Beth Hewglay of Greenville and Michelle Gracey of Calhoun; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; an uncle; and two aunts.

Services are at 1 p.m. today at Gary's Funeral Home Inc. in Greenville. Burial will be in Lone Star cemetery in Greenville. Visitation is after 9 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Anne Heflin Hafner
23 April 1999

Anne Heflin Hafner, 68, of 2904 Dixianna Court, Owensboro, died Wednesday, April 21, 1999, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. She was born in Owensboro, was formerly employed by Drs. Dawson, Davis, McManus and Dodson and retired from George Mischel & Sons Monument Company. She was employed at Golden Partners and was a member of Lewis Lane Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, John Felix Hafner, in 1996.

Survivors include five grandchildren; two brothers, John R. Heflin II and Thomas D. Heflin, both of Owensboro; four sisters, Bettye J. Heflin of Milford, Ohio, Patricia H. Nielsen and Lynda H. Neel, both of Owensboro, and Sue Nelle Enlow of Rockport, Ind.; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday at James H. Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Hartford Goodman
23 April 1999

Hartford Goodman, 75, of 1604 West Fourth Street, Owensboro, died Thursday, April 22, 1999, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. He was born in Camp Taylor, was a member of Calvary Holiness Church of Owensboro and retired from American Tobacco Company.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Allene Goodman; a son, Clarence Goodman of Owensboro; a daughter, Darlene Winfield of Lexington; five grandchildren; two brothers, Johnny Goodman of Milton, Fla., and David Goodman of Murray; and two sisters, Shirley Palmer of Pennsylvania and Etta Johnson of Clarkson.

Services are at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Burial will be at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Leonard A. Geary Sr.
23 April 1999

HORSE BRANCH - Leonard Alton Geary Sr., 60, of Horse Branch died Wednesday, April 21, 1999, at his home. He was born in Ohio County, was a member of Leach Chapel General Baptist Church in Ohio County and retired as a lift driver from Dunaway Timber Co.

Survivors include his wife, Judlida Bratcher Geary; a son, Leonard Alton Geary Jr. of Horse Branch; three daughters, Rita G. Deweese of Morgantown, Frances M. Bratcher of Lynchburg, Va., and Tammy R. Murphy of Horse Branch; seven grandchildren; six brothers, Maneard Geary, Donald Geary, Willard Geary, Glen Geary and Charlie Geary, all of Horse Branch, and Thomas Geary of Owensboro; three sisters, Lillie Phelps of Beaver Dam, Pattie Willis of Paducah and Debbie Rieley of Indiana; a half brother, Cecil Geary of Horse Branch; and a half sister, Geneva Polly of Wisconsin.

Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Burial will be in Horse Branch cemetery. Visitation is from noon to 9 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

James Mark Covetts
23 April 1999

LEWISPORT - James Mark Covetts, 39, of Lewisport died Thursday, April 22, 1999, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. He was born in Owensboro, graduated from Hancock County High School in 1977 and was employed at Willamette Industries Inc.-Kentucky Mills. He was a member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church and was a Boy Scouts leader and head coach of the Royals T-ball team.

Survivors include his wife, Beth Covetts; a son, James Tyler Covetts at home; a daughter, Rachel Elizabeth Covetts at home; a stepson, Charlie McCaslin at home; his parents, James "Abbie" and Iris Fay Covetts of Lewisport; a brother, Brad Covetts of Lewisport; a sister, Debbie Morris of Lewisport; and four nephews.

Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Lewisport Baptist Church. Burial will be in Lewisport cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Taylor-Raymond-Spear Funeral Home in Lewisport. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to either the Chestnut Grove Baptist Church Building Fund or the American Cancer Society. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Norbert 'Nob' Ward
27 January 1999

V. Norbert "Nob" Ward, 90, of 113 Stockton Drive, Owensboro, died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, at Red Banks Nursing Home in Henderson. He was born in Whitesville and began driving a school bus for the Daviess County Board of Education at the age of 18. He graduated from Daviess County High School and the former Western Kentucky State Teachers College and took graduate courses at Indiana University. He began his teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse at Stephens in Ohio County; taught at West Louisville School for 19 years, where he was the basketball coach and coached the West Louisville team to victory over Owensboro High School in the tournament during the late 1940s; and also taught at Daviess County High School. He taught in the Owensboro Public Schools, including Goodloe School, Owensboro Technical High School and the former Eastern Junior High School, where he retired. Before his retirement, he taught in four school districts for more than 40 years. He supervised summer park programs for the Owensboro Parks Department, was a Boy Scout leader and was Santa Claus for many years at Sears, Roebuck and Co. He served as president of the former Catholic Family Program for the Diocese of Owensboro and was a Kentucky Colonel. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Owensboro, the Western Kentucky University Alumni Association and the Retired Teachers Association.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Martine O'Bryan Ward; two daughters, Mary Ivolou Ward Dempsey of Owensboro and Ursula Ann Ward of Oklahoma City; and three grandchildren.

Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Mary of the Woods cemetery in Whitesville. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. The Daughters of Isabella and parish prayers will be said at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Alzheimer's Association, 801 S. Limestone St., Lexington, KY 40508. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Nancy Lee Benefiel
27 January 1999

HENDERSON - Nancy Lee Benefiel, 84, of Henderson died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. She retired from Methodist Hospital in Henderson after 22 years. A son Jerry Benefiel died in 1985.

Survivors include a son, Bill Benefiel of Evansville; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Stella Heflin of Owensboro.

Services are at 10 a.m. Friday at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home in Henderson. Burial will be in Ridgewood cemetery in Spottsville. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today, from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday and after 8 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to First United Methodist Church Quilting Circle, 338 Third St., Henderson, KY 42420. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.
