LOUISVILLE - Mary Julia Augenstein, 81, of Louisville, formerly of Owensboro, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville. She was born in Owensboro and graduated from Carson-Newman College in Tennessee and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville. She retired from New Albany (Ind.) High School, where she taught English; was a former member of Walnut Street Baptist Church in Owensboro; and was a member of Crescent Hill Baptist Church in Louisville.

Survivors include one niece; one great-nephew; and one great-niece.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. EST Feb. 27 at Crescent Hill Baptist Church. Arch L. Heady-Cralle Funeral Home in Louisville is in charge of arrangements. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to either Crescent Hill Baptist Church, 2800 Frankfort Ave., Louisville, KY 40206 or the Louisville Orchestra, 300 W. Main St., Louisville, KY 40202. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Clara Relle Kelly
24 January 1999

GREENVILLE - Clara Relle Kelly, 77, of Greenville died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at Maple Manor Healthcare Center in Greenville. She was born in Muhlenberg County, was a homemaker and was a member of Kingdom Hall Jehovah's Witnesses Church in Central City.

Survivors include her husband, Sylva Kelly; two sons, Walton Kelly of Rockport, Ky., and William Kelly of Greenville; two daughters, Erline Morrison of Missouri and Monda Cornelius of Holmstead; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters, Jetta Duvall and Nadine Everett, both of Greenville.

Services are at 1 p.m. today at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will be in Clifty cemetery. Visitation is after 10:30 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Archie Hoops
24 January 1999

BEAVER DAM - Archie Hoops, 92, of Beaver Dam died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at Ohio County Hospital in Hartford. He was born in Ohio County and was a retired coal miner. He was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting with his dogs.

Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Grace Hoops; three sons, Gene Hoops of Beaver Dam, Boyce Hoops of Farmington, Ill., and Wendall Hoops of Elmwood, Ill.; two daughters, Reba Hoops of Hannah City, Ill., and June England of Newburgh, Ind.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three nephews; and six nieces.

Services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Burial will be in Taylormine cemetery in Beaver Dam. Visitation is from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Ralph Hamilton Rudd
17 February 1999

Ralph Hamilton Rudd, 73, of 641 Delray St., Owensboro, died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. He was born in Cleaton, retired as owner and operator of Rudd's Body Shop and was a member of Riverside Baptist Church in Owensboro.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Margaret Rudd; two sons, David H. Rudd and Randall L. Rudd, both of Owensboro; three daughters, Deborah J. Chamberlain and Judith G. Head, both of Owensboro, and Carolyn S. Wilcox of Ohio County; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Russell Rudd of Owensboro; and two sisters, Shirley Brown of Washington, Ind., and Marjorie Knackstedt of Mansfield, Ohio.

Services are at 10 a.m. Thursday at James H. Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove cemetery in Sorgho. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Betsy Rachel Ezell
17 February 1999

CENTRAL CITY - Betsy Rachel Ezell, 93, of Central City died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. She was born in Morehouse, Mo., was a homemaker and was a member of Nelson Pentecostal Church in Nelson Creek. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pascal Ezell.

Survivors include three daughters, Anna Louise Milligan of Central City, Wanda Brown of Rockport, Ky., and Jean Ingram of Carterville, Ill.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Central City. Visitation is after 3 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Fannie Locke Byers
24 January 1999

CENTRAL CITY - Fannie Locke Byers, 84, of Central City died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at Maple Manor Healthcare Center in Greenville. She was born in Muhlenberg County, retired from Wilcoe Bakery in Gary, Ind., and was a member of Kingdom Hall Jehovah's Witnesses Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Anna Lou Keithley of Jeffersonville, Ind.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial services are at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Kingdom Hall Jehovah's Witnesses Church in Central City. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill cemetery in Greenville. Tucker Funeral Home in Central City is in charge of arrangements.

Ernest F. Brown
24 January 1999

BOWLING GREEN - Ernest F. Brown, 82, of Bowling Green died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at The Medical Center in Bowling Green. He was born in Michigan and was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Church of Christ and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gracie Evans Brown.

Survivors include four sons, Jim Brown of Hawaii, Alfred Gene Brown of Gallatin, Tenn., Alvin Brown of Tullahoma, Tenn., and Tim Brown of Ashland City, Tenn.; four daughters, Helen Brown and Judy McCulley, both of Bowling Green, Mary Bledsoe of Franklin and Nancy Payne of Woodburn; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Jack Brown of Owensboro; and two sisters, Charolette Hopkins of Smith Grove and Helen Winchester of Madisonville.

Services are at 1 p.m. Monday at Crafton Funeral Home in Franklin. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery in Franklin.

Rhetta Stivers Thompson
26 January 1999

Rhetta Stivers Thompson, 61, of 3574 Girl Scout Road, Pleasant Ridge, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at Hermitage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Owensboro. She was born in Henry County and was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir and was a longtime Sunday school teacher. She was secretary-treasurer of Daviess McLean Baptist Association for more than 21 years and a charter member of the National Association of Southern Baptist Secretaries and the Baptist Secretaries Association.

Survivors include her husband, Tilford M. Thompson; a son, Stephen "Steve" Thompson of Utica; her father and stepmother, the Rev. James T. and Beulah Stivers of Hopkinsville; three sisters, Joyce True of Glencoe, Carolyn Scott of Portland, Ind., and Ann Giles of Herndon; two stepsisters, Shirley Johns of Hopkinsville and Connie Outland of Gracey; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to either Kentucky Baptist Children's Home or the charity of the donor's choice. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Joseph Alan Poston
26 January 1999

Joseph Alan Poston, 43, of 101 Plum St., Owensboro, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. He was born in Daviess County, graduated from Eastern Kentucky University and attended St. Pius X and Thomas More Seminary College. He was employed as a paramedic at Owensboro Ambulance Services and as a youth care specialist at Valley Institute of Psychiatry. He was a member of St. Stephen Cathedral in Owensboro and enjoyed dogs and gardening.

Survivors include four sisters, Freda Poiles, Paula Pope and Mischelle Allen, all of Owensboro, and Janie Allen of Evansville; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Stephen Cathedral. Burial will be in Resurrection cemetery in Philpot. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home. Prayers will be said at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Joseph Alan Poston Memorial Fund, c/o Steve Poat, 20 St. Jude, Florence, KY 41042. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Lucille M. Nash
26 January 1999

CENTRAL CITY - Lucille M. Nash, 86, of Central City died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, at Belle Meade Personal Care in Greenville. She was born in Muhlenberg County, was a homemaker and was a member of DeLand (Fla.) Baptist Church.

Survivors include two cousins.

Graveside services are at 11 a.m. today at Rose Hill cemetery in Central City. Visitation is after 9:30 a.m. today at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City.

Robert E. Midkiff
26 January 1999

Robert E. Midkiff, 69, of 2513 E. Cloverdale Drive, Owensboro, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, in Ohio County from injuries suffered in an automobile accident. He was born in Daviess County, was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and retired after 28 years from the Army, where he attained the rank of sergeant. His stepson, William Lynch, died in 1971.

Survivors include two sons, Bruce Midkiff of Cross Plains, Tenn., and Byron Midkiff of Franklin, Tenn.; a stepdaughter, Pamela Lynch of Owensboro; five grandchildren; his father, Fon Midkiff of Owensboro; and a brother, Raymond Midkiff of Philpot.

Services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday at James H. Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Hospice Association Memorial Fund, 723 Harvard Drive, Owensboro, KY 42301. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Margery Troutman Crowe
26 January 1999

Margery Troutman Crowe, 71, of 8333 Kentucky 144, Philpot, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at Leisure Years Nursing Home in Owensboro. She was born in McLean County, was formerly employed by General Electric Co. and was a homemaker. She was a member of South Hampton Baptist Church and enjoyed quilting, embroidering and gardening.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Earl Crowe; two daughters, Joyce Young and Janice Brown, both of Philpot; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in South Hampton cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
