Jacob Anthony Izsak

Jacob Anthony Izsak, 16, of 2531 Apollo Ct., Owensboro, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. He was born in Daviess County, was a junior at Apollo High School and was of the Baptist denomination. He enjoyed being with his friends, playing Dungeons and Dragons and basketball, listening to music and watching movies. He is survived by his father, Tony Izsak of Owensboro; and his mother, Rhonda Gail Cox Izsak of Owensboro.

Survivors include a brother, Jesse Lee Izsak of Owensboro; and two grandfathers, Jimmie B. Cox Sr. and Marvon Spencer, both of Owensboro.

Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Glenn Funeral Chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in South Hampton cemetery in Ensor. Visitation is from 1 to 8 p.m. today and after noon Sunday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the American Heart Association. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Helen Bell Nix Whitehouse

SOUTH PASADENA, Fla. -- Helen Bell Nix Whitehouse, 80, of South Pasadena, formerly of Owensboro, died Saturday, July 10, 1999, in South Pasadena. She was born in Daviess County and was a former member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Owensboro. Her first husband, Harold C. Nix, died on Aug. 30, 1995.

Survivors include her husband, Ollie K. Whitehouse; two sons, Robert W. Nix of Atlanta and Stephen C. Nix of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; two daughters, Joan Nix Hackler of Mt. Carmel, Ill., and Marsha Nix Rush of Evansville; three stepsons, Wayne Kenneth Whitehouse of Louisville, Robert Risley and Gary Risley, both of Owensboro; two stepdaughters, Janet Rose of Lawrenceburg, Ind., and Deborah Holly of Hernando, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 13 stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and a brother, Forest Edward Bell of Las Vegas.

Graveside services are at 11 a.m. Saturday at Elmwood cemetery in Owensboro. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery. The family will receive visitors after noon Saturday at Parish Hall, St. Anthony Church in Browns Valley. James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro is in charge of the arrangements. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice of Florida Suncoast, 300 E. Bay Dr., Largo, FL 33770. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Maria Sonia Altstadt
30 July 1999

SAN DIEGO -- Maria Sonia Altstadt, 42, of San Diego, formerly of Owensboro, died Saturday, July 24, 1999, in San Diego. She was born in Evansville and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Timothy J. Altstadt; a daughter, Andrea Altstadt of San Diego; her mother, Geneva King of Evansville; five brothers, Robert W. King of Hoquiam, Wash., William M. King of Indianapolis, Daniel P. King of Loveland, Ohio, Thomas H. King of Henderson and David E. King of Boonville, Ind.; two sisters, Phyllis Tubbs-Gingerich of San Jose, Calif., and Caroly A. Zimmer of Greer, S.C.

Services were at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, 1999, at Hope United Methodist Church in San Diego. Poway-Bernardo Mortuary in San Diego was in charge of the arrangements.

James Ronald 'Jim' Ashby
12 August 1999

MADISONVILLE -- James Ronald "Jim" Ashby, 58, of Madisonville died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 1999, at the Senior Citizens Nursing Home in Madisonville. He was born in Hopkins County and was last employed as a miner by Island Creek Coal Co., Fies No. 11 mines. He was a member of Pond River Baptist Church, N.H. Shaw Masonic Lodge No. 608 F&AM, Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 243, National Rifle Association, Woodmen of the World and AARP. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gwynne Ashby.

Survivors include two sons, Landon Hughes and Mark Hughes, both of Madisonville; three daughters, Belinda Houck of Madisonville, Kimberly Ashby of Owensboro and Patalyn Thompson of Arizona; six grandchildren; a brother, Johnny Ashby of Nortonville; a sister, Patricia Elkins of Evansville; and nephews and nieces.

Services are at 2 p.m. today at Bandy Funeral Home in Nortonville. Interment will be in New Salem cemetery in Nortonville. Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Activity Fund, c/o Senior Citizens Nursing Home.

William R. Austin
15 August 1999

CALHOUN -- William R. "Bill" Austin, 75, of Calhoun died Saturday, Aug. 14, 1999, at his home. He was born in Daviess County, was a coal miner and was retired from the McLean County Board of Education. He was Pentecostal and enjoyed NASCAR and rodeos.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Christine Durham Austin; a son, Gary Austin of Masonville, a daughter, Lisa Burch of Island; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Nantz of Owensboro.

Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Monday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel. Burial will be in Calhoun cemetery. Visitation is after 3 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Little Flock Holiness Church Fund, c/o Muster Funeral Homes, P.O. Box 160, Calhoun, KY 42327. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Shirley Ann Scarbro
19 August 1999

HARTFORD -- Shirley Ann Scarbro, 53, of Hartford died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 1999, at her home. She was born in Ohio County and was a homemaker. She was a member of Hartford Apostolic Church.

Survivors include her husband, Gary L. Scarbro; her father, James Dale Stewart of Hartford; and two brothers, Larry Stewart of Hartford and Jackie Dale Hart of Beaver Dam.

Services are at 1 p.m. Friday at Duke-Bevil Brothers Funeral Home in Hartford. Burial will be in Rosine cemetery in Rosine. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

John D. 'Johnny' Nation
16 September 1999

John D. "Johnny" Nation, 86, of 3020 Redford Drive, Owensboro, died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 1999, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. He was born in Daviess County and was of the Baptist faith. He retired in 1972 from the grocery business. He owned and operated several neighborhood groceries and later, convenience stores. He was an avid gardener and was an enthusiastic sports and University of Kentucky fan. He was preceded in death by a son, W. Gayle Nation, in 1994.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Emogene Ingleheart Nation; two sons, David Nation of Owensboro and Darrell Nation of Prospect; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, George Nation of Owensboro; three sisters, Tina Rafferty and Mabel Sands, both of Owensboro, and Elizabeth Whitehouse of Rocky River, Ohio; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 10 a.m. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 8:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Boulware Center Emergency Shelter, 731 Hall St., Owensboro, KY 42303.

Anna Mae Havener
17 September 1999

Anna Mae Havener, 49, of 1651 W. Fourth St., Owensboro, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999, at her home. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Sorgho. She enjoyed collecting butterflies.

Survivors include two sons, Bryan Burden of Owensboro and Jimmy Lee Burden of Illinois; her mother, Lorene Fifield of Owensboro; a grandchild; and four sisters, Billy Jean Carrico, Sandy Carter and Phyllis Hardy, all of Owensboro, and Barbara Means.

Memorial services are at 10 a.m. today at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Sorgho. James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro is in charge of the arrangements.

W.D. 'Brownie' Brown
29 September 1999

W.D. "Brownie" Brown, 75, of 116 Wesleyan Place, Owensboro, died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at his home. He was born in Daviess County, was a retired superintendent for Green Coal Co. and had owned and operated Livestock Transport Trucking Co. He was a member of Ridgewood Baptist Church, Yellow Banks Good Sam Camping Club and the Boyd-Greenup County Chamber of Commerce. He was an honorary sheriff of Greenup County and a Navy veteran of World War II. He enjoyed sports, NASCAR racing and University of Kentucky basketball.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Colleen Brown; two sons, Allen Dale Brown of Owensboro and James Vineyard of Terre Haute, Ind.; two daughters, Jerry Nell McKinney of Marion and Judy Vineyard of Terre Haute; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Bowman of Owensboro.

Services are at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at James H. Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Hospice Association, 723 Harvard Drive, Owensboro, KY 42301. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Irene Finley
14 November 1998

GREENVILLE - Irene Finley, 82, of Greenville died Friday, Nov. 13, 1998, at Belle Meade Health Care Center in Greenville following a lengthy illness. She was born in Muhlenberg County and was a member of Greens Chapel General Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.W. Finley, in 1988.

Survivors include two sons, William Finley of Greenville and Bruce Finley of New York City; two grandchildren; a sister, Josephine Scott of Harrodsburg; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 3 p.m. Sunday at Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will be in Greens Chapel cemetery near Greenville. Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Helen Louise Mercer
24 April 1999

CENTRAL CITY - Helen Louise Mercer, 84, of Central City died Thursday, April 22, 1999, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. She was born in Muhlenberg County and retired as a schoolteacher.

Survivors include two sisters, Beatrice Wells of Greenville and Kathleen Shrewsbury of Central City; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 2 p.m. today at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will be in Fairmount cemetery in Central City. Visitation is after 1 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ralph E. White
25 January 1999

Ralph E. White, 81, of 17-B Quail Ridge Court, Owensboro, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at Hillcrest Healthcare Center in Owensboro. He was born in McLean County and was a member of the Settle Memorial United Methodist Church in Owensboro. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and retired from Gulf Oil Co. After retirement, he worked for the city of Owensboro.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Bessie Lee Moseley White; twin daughters, Annette Schaefer of Owensboro and Jannette Elliott of Bloomington, Ind.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday at James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro. Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Settle Memorial United Methodist Church Building Fund, 201 E. Fourth St., Owensboro, KY 42303. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.
