Oscar Woodson Rudd
24 January 1999

Oscar Woodson Rudd, 87, of 1720 St. Mary's Ave., Owensboro, died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at Hillcrest Healthcare Center in Owensboro. He was born in Rumsey, retired from General Electric after 40 years and was a member of Calhoun Christian Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II, was a 52-year member of Owensboro Lodge No. 130 F&AM and was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. His wife, Christine Moore Rudd, died Aug. 18, 1996.

Survivors include two daughters, Paula Rudd Hudson of Owensboro and Donna Rudd Bailey of Seymour, Ind.; and one grandchild.

Services are at 1 p.m. Monday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel. Burial will be in Calhoun cemetery. Visitation is after 3 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to either the Crabtree Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund or the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra, c/o Muster Funeral Homes, P.O. Box 160, Calhoun, KY 42327. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Donald E. Owsley
24 January 1999

Donald Edward Owsley, 68, of 1010 Breckenridge St., Owensboro, died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. He was born in Owensboro, was a graduate of Western High School and retired in 1986 from Green River Steel as a stores clerk after 33 1/2 years. He was a 50-year member of Center Street Baptist Church, where he had served as treasurer and trustee and in the position of moderator. He was very involved with Masonic affiliations, including being the most worshipful grand master from 1994 to 1995 for the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge, F&AM of Kentucky, most excellent past grand high priest from 1974 to 1976 for the Most Excellent Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons of Kentucky and was a right eminent past grand commander from 1978 to 1980.

He was an honorary grand inspector general, 33rd degree for the United Supreme Council, A.A.S.R. of Freemasonry, S.J., was a worthy past patron from 1968 to 1969 for Amaranth Chapter No. 46, O.E.S in Owensboro, was illustrious past potentate from 1968 to 1969 for Cawthar Temple No. 118, A.E.A. Order Nobles, Mystic Shrine in Evansville and was affiliated with the Damascus Temple No. 58, A.E.A.O.N.M. Shrine in Louisville. He was president of the American Association of Retired Persons Yellow Banks Chapter, was chairman of the board at Prince Hall Village Inc. in Louisville and was president of the Housing Complex in Frankfort. He was a member of the executive committee of Green River Area Development District Inc., where he was chairman of the Equal Opportunity Fair Housing Committee. He was a board member of Green River Housing Corp., Green River Economic Development Corp. and the H.L. Neblett Community Center Inc. He was a life member and past president of the board of directors for the Boulware Center, was past chairman and member of the board of commissioners for the Owensboro Human Relations Commission and was chairman and member of the board of directors for Audubon Area Community Services Inc. He was a board member for the Western Kentucky Development Corp., was past president of the Owensboro branch of the N.A.A.C.P. and was a charter member and past president of the Owensboro Area A. Phillip Randolph Institute. He served on the executive committee for Habitat for Humanity, was a hearing officer for the Owensboro Housing Authority and was an associate member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was a member of the Daviess County Historical Society and Owensboro Friends of Library. He was a Kentucky Colonel and was Notary Public state-at-large. He was former secretary and treasurer for Roosevelt Houses I and II, was chairman of the board of trustees for the Owensboro-Daviess County Library and was a former member of the Urban County Charter Commission. He was vice president of United Steel Workers of America Local No. 4459, was secretary for United Way of Ohio Valley and was a former member of the advisory board for the Salvation Army. He was involved with West End Day Care, Kentucky Tomorrow and had served on the advisory council for Green River Area Ombudsman.

Survivors include his wife, Anetta Owsley; two sons, Keith Owsley of Owensboro and Whaylon Morton of Dallas; five daughters, Donna J. Buggs of Warrensville Heights, Ohio, Calrice Green of Hudson, Ohio, Cynthia Morton of Dallas, Donetta Owsley of Owensboro and Juanita Owsley-Brown of Cincinnati; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, William Robert Owsley Sr. of Owensboro; two aunts; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are pending at Young's Funeral Home in Owensboro.

Madie Williams Duncan
5 October 1999

HARTFORD -- Madie Williams Duncan, 82, of Dawson Springs, formerly of Hartford, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999, at New Dawson Springs Nursing Home. She was born in Paradise, was a homemaker and member of Lone Star Baptist Church in Centertown.

Survivors include her husband, Roscoe D. Duncan; a daughter, Lena Marie Bailey of Centertown; a granddaughter; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford. Burial will be in Lone Star Baptist Church cemetery in Ohio County. Visitation is from 4 to 9 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Ollie S. Thomas
4 December 1998

SACRAMENTO - Ollie S. Thomas, 91, of Sacramento died Thursday, Dec. 3, 1998, at N.H.C. Facility in Madisonville. She was born in Sacramento, retired from the McLean County A.S.C.S. office in 1972 and was active in the community, where she volunteered for the McLean County General Hospital and the McLean County Senior Citizens Center. She was a member of Sacramento United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star No. 67 of Sacramento. Her husband, John Henry Thomas, died April 11, 1965.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Jane Pemberton of Madisonville; 18 stepgrandchildren; several stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother, James Stokes of Whittier, Calif.; and a sister, Regina McGregor of Lady Lake, Fla.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel. Burial will be in Sacramento Cumberland Presbyterian cemetery. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Sacramento United Methodist Church, c/o Muster Funeral Homes, P.O. Box 160, Calhoun, KY 42327. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Tony 'Chappy' Chapman Jr.
16 October 1999

Tony "Chappy" Chapman Jr., 48, of Whitesville died Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999. He was born in Daviess County and was a journeyman millwright. He was a member of the Baptist faith and Local Union 1080.

Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Vicki Chapman; a son, Justin Chapman of Owensboro; a daughter, Misty Chapman Lanham of Owensboro; two grandchildren; a brother, Jeff Chapman of Owensboro; a sister, Judy McManaway of Whitesville; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville. Burial will be in Bells Run cemetery in Ohio County. Visitation is after 1 p.m. today and after 11 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the American Heart Association. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Janice Faye Oost
6 October 1999

Janice Faye Oost, 60, formerly of 703 Carol Stream, Owensboro, died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, at Hermitage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Owensboro. She was born in Daviess County, was a homemaker and nursery worker at Seven Hills Baptist Church, where she was also a member. She was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Lee Brown, in 1984.

Survivors include three sons, Terry Oost, Steve Brown and Tony Brown, all of Owensboro; three grandchildren; and a brother, Marvin Kirkendoll of Clearwater, Fla.

Services are at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Visitation is after 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice Association, 723 Harvard Drive, Owensboro, KY 42301. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Robin Buchanan Lashbrook
11 October 1999

GREENVILLE -- Robin Buchanan Lashbrook, 34, of Benton died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, in Benton. She was born in Cook County, Illinois, was a homemaker and member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Survivors include her husband, Shannon Ray Lashbrook; two daughters, Shanna Lashbrook and Laci Lashbrook, both at home; her father, Vernon Buchanan of Beechmont; her mother, Sherlia Buchanan of Owensboro; and a sister, Linda Buchanan Hunter of Owensboro.

Services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will be in New Cypress cemetery in Greenville. Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Shanna and Laci Lashbrook. Barbara Sue Bearley
26 September 1999

Barbara Sue Bearley, 56, of 1724 Brentwood Drive, Owensboro, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, at her home. She was born in Cook County, Ill., was a member of Calvary Temple Assembly of God and worked at Owensboro Junior College of Business as a day-care worker. She enjoyed children and cooking.

Survivors include a son, James Bearley of Owensboro; a daughter, Alice Payne of Owensboro; three grandchildren; and three sisters, Shirley Fanning of Chicago, Bonnie Jones of Greenville and Patricia Provenzano of Rolling Meadows, Ill.

Services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and after 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Melvin Boyce 'Red' Mercer
26 September 1999

JACKSON, Mich. -- Melvin Boyce "Red" Mercer, 96, of Jackson died Friday, Sept. 24, 1999, at Vista Grande Villa in Jackson. He was born in Rochester, was a member of Jackson Christian Church and retired from Ford Motor Co. in Dearborn, Mich. He was preceded in death by his wife, Armilda Austin Mercer in August 1999; and a son, Odell Mercer in April 1992.

Survivors include a son, Sam M. Mercer of Dearborn; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held in Michigan at a later date. James H. Davis Funeral Home of Owensboro is in charge of local arrangements.

James K. Richards
26 September 1999

FORDSVILLE -- James K. Richards, 65, of Fordsville died Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. He was born in Hancock County and was a retired timber cutter. He was a member and former deacon of Friendship Baptist Church in Cabot.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Lillian Richards; three sons, Jessie Richards and Ray Richards, both of Fordsville, and James Lee Richards of Reynolds Station; four daughters, Sadie Crowe, Geraldine Hazelwood, Ruby Sanders, all of Fordsville, and Faye Ball of McHenry; his mother, Gladys Richards of Fordsville; 22 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 2 p.m. Monday at Friendship Baptist Church in Cabot. Burial will be in Friendship Church cemetery in Cabot. Visitation is after 2 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday at Harl-Geary Funeral Home in Fordsville.

Sue 'Susie' Johnson
27 September 1999

KNOTTSVILLE -- Sue "Susie" Johnson, 92, of Knottsville, formerly of Hancock County, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. She was born in Hancock County and was a lifelong member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Philpot. She was a former member of the Altar Society and Sodality of Mary. She enjoyed raising flowers and a garden and was known for her angel food cakes.

Survivors include 30 nephews and nieces; and several great-nephews, great-great-nephews, great-nieces and great-great-nieces.

Services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Philpot. Burial will be in St. Lawrence cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro and after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to St. Lawrence Church, 9515 Kentucky 144, Philpot, KY 42366.

Wanda Weedman
27 September 1999

BEAVER DAM -- Wanda Weedman, 69, of Beaver Dam died Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999, at Beaver Dam Health Care Manor. She was born in Ohio County, was a member of Hickory Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Ohio County and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by a husband, Charles P. Beck, on March 21, 1980; and a son, Charles Dale Beck, on May 14, 1977.

Survivors include her husband, Carroll Weedman; a daughter, Shirley Hines of Beaver Dam; four grandchildren; and a brother, W.C. Hocker of Beaver Dam.

Services are at 3 p.m. Tuesday at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Burial will be in Mount Zion cemetery in Ohio County. Visitation is from 4 to 9 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
