HARDINSBURG -- Grace Whitler Lyons, 93, of Hardinsburg, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at Caritas Medical Center in Louisville. She was born in Breckinridge County and was a homemaker. She was a member of Corinth Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Murray Lyons in 1981; a son, Robert C. Lyons; and a daughter, Margaret Moore.

Survivors include a son, B.W. Lyons of Leitchfield; three daughters, JoAnn Fentress of Leitchfield, Bonnie Wilson of Hardinsburg and Doris Moorman of Milwaukee; 21 grandchildren; 2 stepgrandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandchild.

Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Corinth Baptist Church in McQuady. Burial will be in McQuady cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Sunday at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Corinth Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Eugene Mallory
9 October 1999

CENTRAL CITY -- Eugene Mallory, 82, of Sacramento died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. He was born in Muhlenberg County and retired as a construction worker from the Civil Service Co. in Ohio. He was a member of the Holiness faith and was a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Mallory; five sons, Kenneth Mallory of Madisonville, Ricky Mallory of Sacramento, Tad Mallory of South Carolina, Anthony Dale Turner of Nashville, and Ray Lewis Turner of Owensboro; five daughters, Laura Bristil of Dawson Springs, Wilma Pollock and Judy Shemwell, both of Madisonville, Kathy Turner of Drakesboro and Brenda Ward of Greenville; 18 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services are at 1 p.m. Sunday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will be in Cherry Grove in Weir. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mary Athelene Whitesell
13 October 1999

Mary Athelene Whitesell, 83, of Roosevelt House I, Owensboro, died Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, at Hermitage Nursing and Rehabilitation in Owensboro. She was born in Daviess County and was a retired cosmetologist. She was a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church and Daughters of Isabella. She enjoyed making Rosaries for the Carmel Home. Her husband, William Earl Whitesell, died in 1988.

Survivors include three nephews and a niece.

Services are at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Stephen Cathedral in Owensboro. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home. Prayers will be said at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Daughters of Isabella will have a service at 5:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice Association of Owensboro, 723 Harvard Drive, Owensboro, KY 42303. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Gene Jernigan
12 October 1999

GREENVILLE -- Gene Jernigan, 71, of Greenville died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville. He was born in Muhlenberg County and worked for the Muhlenberg County Road Department.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Rodgers Jernigan; three sons, Jimmy Jernigan and Roger Jernigan, both of Greenville and George Jernigan of Nashville; a daughter, JoAnn Sweeney of Greenville; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five brothers, George Jernigan, James Jernigan, and Wendell Jernigan, all of Greenville, Lannie Jernigan of Lewisburg and Bobby Jernigan of Utica; five sisters, Myrtle Lofthouse of Chicago, Betty Benning of Ohio, Hazel Webster, Louise Ford and Janice Grace, all of Greenville; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will be in Friendship cemetery in Greenville. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mary L. Webb
9 October 1999

RIDGECREST, Calif. -- Mary L. Webb, 77, of Ridgecrest, formerly of Whittier, Calif., died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999, at Ridgecrest Regional Hospital. She was born in Owensboro, was a homemaker and was actively involved in the Senior Ministry at Church of the Nazarene in Ridgecrest. She was preceded in death by her husband, Neal Webb, in 1988.

Survivors include four sons, Alan Webb of Bloomington, Calif., and Marlyn Webb, Daryl Webb and Stanley Webb, all of Ridgecrest; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Viola Junker of Leavenworth, Ind.

Services are at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Church of the Nazarene in Ridgecrest. A private inurnment will be in Desert Memorial Park in Ridgecrest. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Holland and Lyons Mortuary Chapel in Ridgecrest. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Mary L. Webb Memorial Fund, Church of the Nazarene, 571 N. Norma St., Ridgecrest, CA 93555.

Cindy A. Lee Payne
12 October 1999

Cindy A. Lee Payne, 33, of 3565 Becker Drive West, Owensboro, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. She was born in Daviess County and was employed at Omico Plastics as an inspector. She was a member of Owensboro Christian Church.

Survivors include her husband, James "Jim" Payne; a son, Jared Michael Payne at home; her parents, Gary and Betty Lee of Owensboro; her maternal grandmother, Sylvia Lamb of Owensboro; a brother, Sylvan Lee of Owensboro; a sister, Vicki Lee Ashworth of Owensboro; and several uncles, aunts and cousins.

Services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Resurrection cemetery in Philpot. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Prayers will be said at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Jared Michael Payne Scholarship Fund, c/o Independence Bank in Owensboro. Linda R. Morton

Linda R. Morton, 56, of 2324 Maple Hill Drive, Owensboro, died Monday, Nov. 1, 1999, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. She was born in Chicago and was a member of Owensboro Christian Church.

Survivors include her husband of 37 years, John H. Morton III; two sons, John Alexander Morton and Teddy Rutherford Morton, both of Owensboro; four daughters, Elizabeth Morton Thomas and Amy Lynn Morton, both of Owensboro, Kathy Morton Lowry of Warner-Robbins, Ga., and Kathryn Jane Morton at home; and three grandchildren.

Services are at 10 a.m. Thursday at Owensboro Christian Church. Graveside services and burial will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Oddfellows cemetery in Madisonville. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro; and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the church. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Owensboro Christian Church Memorial Fund, 2818 New Hartford Road, Owensboro, KY 42303. Charity Ashland Vance
2 November 1999

Charity Ashland Vance, 96, of 1614 Parrish Ave., Owensboro, died Sunday, Oct. 31, 1999, at Hermitage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Daviess County, was a homemaker and member of Bellevue Baptist Church in Owensboro. She was a member of the Homemaker's Association, Baptist Missionary Society and enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. Her husband, W.T. Vance, died in 1977.

Survivors include a son, Douglas Vance of Owensboro; two daughters, Vivian Sands of Owensboro and Marian Cox of Dunedin, Fla.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Catherine Baird of Owensboro.

Services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Burial will be in Glenville Baptist Church cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Parkinson's Research Foundation, c/o Emory University, Atlanta, GA 30322. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Virginia Mae Chambers
31 October 1999

Virginia Mae Chambers, 73, of Livermore died Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. She was born in Daviess County and was a homemaker. She was of the Methodist denomination. She was preceded in death by her husband, Noble Elvis Chambers, in 1984; and a grandchild in 1992.

Survivors include three sons, Larry E. Chambers of Richland, Ind., and James N. Chambers and Michael D. Chambers, both of Livermore; a daughter, Vickie L. Douglas of Island; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Junior Whitaker of Owensboro; and two sisters, Margie James of Owensboro and Lora Bolton of Livermore.

There will be neither services nor visitation. Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Celeste Young Bartlett
3 November 1999

Celeste Young Bartlett, 71, of 5058 Back Square Drive, Owensboro, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999, at her home. She was born in Daviess County and was employed by the Daviess County Board of Education, working in the cafeteria at Daviess County Junior High School and Apollo High School. She was a member of Brushy Fork Baptist Church. Her husband of 42 years, Marshall Bartlett, died on Feb. 2, 1989.

Survivors include twin sons, Loyd Bartlett and Boyd Bartlett, both of Owensboro; two daughters, Bonnie Stone of Owensboro and Marsha Christian of Panther; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her mother, Prudie "Nanny" Young of Owensboro; a brother, Robert Young of Owensboro; and a sister, JoAnn Risner of Owensboro.

Services are at 3 p.m. Thursday at James H. Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the American Heart Association. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Virgil Eugene Crick
31 October 1999

CENTRAL CITY -- Virgil Eugene Crick, 60, of Greenville died Friday, Oct. 29, 1999, at his home. He was born in Muhlenberg County and was of the Baptist denomination.

Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann Hill Crick; two sons, Kenney Gene Crick and Randy Scott Crick, both of Greenville; three grandchildren; and five sisters, Gladys Jones of Kirkmansville and Bertha Kellams, Dollie Bryant, Verna Grace and Fannie Vincent, all of Greenville.

Services are at 2 p.m. Monday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will be in Lone Star cemetery in Weir. Visitation is after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Rodney Allen Weedman
3 November 1999

HARDINSBURG -- Rodney Allen Weedman, 40, of Hardinsburg died Monday, Nov. 1, 1999, in Hardinsburg. He was born in Hardinsburg and was employed by Cardinal Carriers in Elizabethtown as a truck driver.

Survivors include his wife, Connie Weedman; a daughter, Felicia Weedman of Hardinsburg; his parents, Jack and Marjorie Tate Weedman of Hardinsburg; two brothers, Randall Bruington of Kingswood and Jackie Weedman of Lexington; a sister, Joan Severs of Hardinsburg; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 1 p.m. Thursday at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg. Burial will be in Ivy Hill cemetery in Hardinsburg. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
