Paulinus 'Paul' Evans
11 February 2000

WHITESVILLE -- Paulinus 'Paul' Evans, 76, of Whitesville died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at his home. He was born in Daviess County and retired from Glenmore Distillery in Owensboro after 42 years. He was a member of St. Mary's of the Woods Catholic Church in Whitesville, was a Kentucky Colonel and enjoyed playing music. A daughter, Debora Jean Evans, died Feb. 11, 1965.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Virginia Crowe Evans; five sons, Dennis Evans, Ronald Evans and Jeff Evans, all of Whitesville, Kenneth Evans of Newburgh, Ind., and David Evans of Philpot; two daughters, Sharon Wilgus of Owensboro and Paula Moore of Whitesville; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his mother, Mary Annie Evans of Owensboro; and a brother, Ed Evans of Whitesville.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary's of the Woods Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery in Whitesville. Visitation is after 1 p.m. today at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville. Prayers will be said at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Harry Lynn Milan

CENTRAL CITY -- Harry Lynn Milan, 44, of Central City, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, in Island. He was born in Trigg County, was a member of First Baptist Church in Central City and was a Kentucky Colonel.

Survivors include his wife, Trudy Peterson Milan; four sons, Jonathan Milan of Nelson Creek, Jason Milan and Jerrod Milan, both at home, and Jeremy Mahan of Graham; a daughter, Kristi Sparks of Graham; two grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; his mother, Imogene Milan of Princeton; two brothers, Johnny Milan of Cadiz and Wayne Milan of Princeton; and four sisters, Patsy Boyd, Carolyn Jackson and Lori Milan, all of Princeton, and Geneva Adamson of Dawson Springs.

Services are at 1 p.m. Thursday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Central City. Visitation is at 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Alice Dukes
11 February 2000

GREENVILLE -- Alice Dukes, 83, of Greenville died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville after a short illness. She was born in Christian County and was a member of Lead Hill United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Lewis Dukes, and a son, Lewis Dukes.

Survivors include a son, James Dukes of Greenville; three granddaughters; a brother, Paul Johnson of Greenville; and a sister, Myrtle Shelton of Hopkinsville.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday at Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will be in Cherry Grove cemetery. Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

A. Lavonne Bunch
12 February 2000

A. Lavonne Bunch, 48, of Owensboro died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. She was born in Warren County and was a certified medical assistant at Owensboro Mercy Health System.

Survivors include four sons, Shannon Bunch of Old Hickory, Tenn., Nathan Martin of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Dustin Bunch and Brandon Bunch, both of Owensboro; five grandchildren; her father, Asher Guess of Louisville; her grandmother, Mildred Norris of Woodburn; five brothers, Kerry Payne, Mike Glenn and Chris Siegert, all of Bowling Green, William Siegert of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Frank Siegert of Dothan, Ala.; two sisters, Sonja Siegert Dawson of Panama City, Fla., and Nichol Siegert of Bowling Green; and several nephews and nieces.

Funeral mass is at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bowling Green. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery in Bowling Green. Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at J.C. Kirby & Son Broadway Chapel in Bowling Green. Prayers will be said at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Scotty Doolin
20 February 2000

MAGAN -- Scotty Doolin, 57, of Magan died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. He was born in Ohio County, was retired from Power Gas as a truck driver, was a farmer and was of the Baptist denomination.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Jean McCarty Doolin; four daughters, Shelly Doolin of Beaver Dam, Susie Baughn of Magan, Marlene Fulkerson of Little Rock, Ark., and Cathy Greer of Whitesville; six grandchildren; his parents, Ted and Ida Bea Doolin of Magan; five brothers, Elvis Doolin and Andy Doolin, both of Magan, Billy Joe Doolin of Reynolds Station, Houston Doolin of Dundee and Randall Doolin of Olaton; six sisters, Lula Belle Dean of Atlanta, Linda Hendrix of Norris City, Ill., Charlotte Owens of Fordsville, Crecia Brown of Reynolds Station, Garnette Beatty of Jasper, Ind., and Tammy Causey of Owensboro; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 1 p.m. Monday at Harl-Geary Funeral Home in Fordsville. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill cemetery in Magan. Visitation is after noon today and after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Jenny Marie Bratcher Varble
15 November 1999

Jenny Marie Bratcher Varble, 26, of Whitesville died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, from injuries sustained in a car accident in Daviess County. She was born in Daviess County, was a homemaker and member of St. Mary's of the Woods Catholic Church in Whitesville.

Survivors include her husband, Lewis Varble; two daughters, Mercedez Varble and Alena Varble, both at home; her parents, Leon and Mary Bratcher of Whitesville; grandparents, John and Grace Howard of Whitesville; three brothers, Michael Coy and Mark Coy, both of Beaver Dam, and Steven Leon Bratcher of Owensboro; a sister, Anna Bratcher of Whitesville; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's of the Woods Catholic Church in Whitesville. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery in Whitesville. Visitation is after 2 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Jenny Varble Memorial Fund. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Thelma Harder Baughn

HARTFORD -- Thelma Harder Baughn, 96, of Hartford, formerly of Dundee, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, at Professional Care Health and Rehabilitation Home in Hartford. She was born in Ohio County, was a homemaker and member of Dundee Baptist Church and Royal Neighbors of America in Rock Island, Ill. Her husband, Alfred B. Baughn, died in 1987.

Survivors include a daughter, Freda Boswell of Hartford; two grandchildren; and five great-grandsons.

Services are at 11 a.m. Friday at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery in Hartford. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Dundee Baptist Church, P.O. Box 94, Dundee, KY 42338.

Alfred R. Bundy

BEAVER DAM -- Alfred R. Bundy, 55, of Beaver Dam died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. He was born in Rosine and was a self-employed timber dealer.

Survivors include his wife, Karen Rae Bundy; a son, Jarrod Ray Bundy of Echols; a daughter, Cynthia Bundy of Louisville; three grandchildren; his mother, Della Pharris Johnson of Island; several half-brothers; and several half-sisters.

Services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Burial will be in Waltons Creek cemetery in Centertown. Visitation is from 4 to 9 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Lee Edwin Hopewell
20 December 1999

Lee Edwin Hopewell, 58, of 3917 Kipling Drive, Owensboro, formerly of Louisville, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. He was born in Louisville and was the founder, vice president and co-owner of Professional Maintenance of Kentuckiana Inc. He was a member of Fenner Lutheran Church in Louisville, a former member of Kiwanis Club in Owensboro and a former board member of Owensboro Country Club. He was a Kentucky Colonel and enjoyed his grandchildren, traveling and golfing.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Lardner Hopewell; two sons, Lee Edwin Hopewell II and Chet Hopewell, both of Owensboro; six grandchildren; his mother and stepfather, Doris and Tom Fischer of Louisville; a brother, David Hopewell of Louisville; and two sisters, Doris Marie Shepherd and Joy Kebsch, both of Louisville.

Services are at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at James H. Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove cemetery in Sorgho. Visitation is from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Christmas Wish, Pioneer BellSouth Volunteers, P. O. Box 1330, Owensboro, KY 42302. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Leroy Waltrip

SHERRILLS FORD, N.C. -- Leroy Waltrip, 76, of Sherrills Ford died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, at his home. He was born in Owensboro and was a retired general manager of Pepsi Cola in Owensboro. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Crabtree Avenue Baptist Church and the Lions Club, both in Owensboro.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Margaret Jean Evans Waltrip; three sons, Darrell Lee Waltrip, Robert Lynn Waltrip and Michael Curtis Waltrip; two daughters, Carolyn Jean Waltrip and Connie Mae Brinkley; nine grandchildren; and three sisters, Clarice Trodglen, Emma Trodglen and Edna Hardesty.

A memorial service is at 3 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Mooresville, N.C. A memorial service is also at 4 p.m. Thursday at Bellevue Baptist Church in Owensboro. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice of Catawba Valley, 263 Third Ave. N.W., Hickory, NC 28601 or Motor Racing Outreach, Smith Tower Suite 405, 5555 Concord Parkway South, Harrisburg, NC 28075. Cavin Funeral Home in Mooresville is in charge of arrangements.

James Byron Mitchell

HARTFORD -- James Byron Mitchell, 89, of Hartford died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at Ohio County Hospital. He was born in Dundee and was retired from State Contracting & State Co. as a blacktop plant operator. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and a member of Hartford United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Duke Mitchell; four nephews and a niece.

Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at Duke-Bevil Brothers Funeral Home in Hartford. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery in Hartford. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Bessie Whorley
31 October 1999

CLOVERPORT -- Bessie Whorley, 99, of Cloverport died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999, at Fordsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Cloverport and was a member of Cloverport Baptist Church. She had maintained perfect Sunday school attendance for 56 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nolte Whorley, in 1979.

Survivors include a sister, Eleanor Jones of Melborne, Fla.

Services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Wallace Funeral Home in Cloverport. Burial will be in Cloverport cemetery. Visitation is after 4 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
