GREENVILLE -- Mary Agnes Vincent, 70, of Greenville died Sunday, Oct. 31, 1999, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was born in Muhlenberg County and was a member of Duvall's Chapel General Baptist Church. She was a retired nurse from Muhlenberg Community Hospital. Her husband, J.C. Vincent, died in 1996.

Survivors include a son, Thomas Vincent of Greenville; a brother, W.T. Hall of Calvert City; and a sister, Barbara Hall of Greenville.

Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will be in Corley Chapel cemetery. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ora Mae Rhodes
24 February 2000

Ora Mae Rhodes, 89, of Hillcrest Healthcare Center, formerly of 1322 Independence Ave., Owensboro, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at Hillcrest Healthcare Center. She was born in Breckinridge County and was a homemaker. She attended Parrish Avenue Baptist Church and enjoyed quilting, sewing and gardening. Her husband, Frank Thomas Rhodes, died March 25, 1987.

Survivors include three sons, Jesse E. Rhodes of Owensboro, Dyril Rhodes of Utica and Gerald Rhodes of Indianapolis; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Katie Hidenrite of Florida, Beulah Riley of Owensboro and Wilhelmina Duncan of Maceo.

Services are at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from noon to 8 p.m. Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Alzheimer's Association, Louisville Chapter, P.O. Box 6568, Louisville, KY 40206. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Lillian Kemper Cook
14 March 2000

Lillian Kemper Cook, 95, of 3307 Placid Place, Owensboro, died Sunday, March 12, 2000, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. She was born in Daviess County, was a member of Thruston United Methodist Church and was a member of the Goel Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Her husband, William Arthur Cook, died in 1973.

Survivors include a son, Arthur Kemper Cook of Austin, Texas; a daughter, Margaret Sue Cook of Owensboro; two granddaughters; a great-grandchild; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Yellow Creek Baptist Church cemetery in Thruston. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the American Heart Association, 920 Frederica St., Suite 308, Owensboro, KY 42301. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Luvina Benson
5 March 2000

ROCKPORT, Ky. -- Luvina Benson, 76, of Rockport died Friday, March 3, 2000, at Ohio County Hospital in Hartford. She was born in Ohio County, was a homemaker and was a member of the Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Benson, in 1987; and two sons, William Guy Benson in 1997 and Bobby Ray Benson in 1999.

Survivors include a daughter, Debra Lynn Holmes of Willow, Alaska; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; her mother, Ella Margaret Watson of McHenry; five brothers, Wilford Dee Watson, James Willard Watson, Bobby Joe Watson and Billy Ray Watson, all of McHenry, and Roy Junior Watson of Rockport; three sisters, Wilma Lois White of Mantachie, Miss., Joyce Ann Axelrod of Burleson, Texas, and Linda Gail Watson of McHenry; and 19 nephews and nieces.

Services are at 1 p.m. Monday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will be in Render cemetery in Ohio County. Visitation is after 5:30 p.m. today and after 8 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Addie Creasie Cooper Talbott
13 October 1999

Addie Creasie Cooper Talbott, 76, of 717 Hocker St., Owensboro, died Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. She was born in Brantley, Ala. She was a member of St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church for more than 50 years, where she served as trustee, president of the M.L. Owsley Missionary Society, stewardess and member of the Golden Leaf Club, and member of the Senior Choir. She retired from Owensboro City School System after 32 years of teaching, and graduated from Kentucky State College and Western Kentucky University. She served as president of the board of directors of the H.L Neblett Community Center for eight years and was an honorary life member of the board. She also served on the board of directors of the State Archives and Records Commission -- Commonwealth of Kentucky, board of directors of Owensboro-Daviess County Red Cross and board of directors of United Neighborhood Centers of America. She was a member of the State Project Design Task Force for Kentucky's ninth grade educational reading program for television, charter member of the Committee for Better Housing, Owensboro Chapter of the NAACP, KET Advisory Committee, Owensboro Area Council or International Reading Association, past matron of Amaranth Chapter No. 46, Order of the Eastern Star and past district deputy grand matron, Delta Sigma Theta sorority, and past president of the Joe N. Kendall Kentucky State College Alumni Chapter.

Survivors include her husband, Grant Talbott Jr.; two sons, Grant Talbott III of Owensboro and James Dartez Talbott of Sandersville, Ga.; four grandchildren; and a sister, Emma Neal of Cincinnati.

Services are at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul AME Church in Owensboro. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church. A memorial service by Amaranth Chapter No. 46 OES will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the church. McFarland Funeral Home in Owensboro is in charge of the arrangements. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the H.L. Neblett Community Center, 801 West Fifth St., Owensboro, KY 42301. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the church.

David Tinsley
30 September 1999

CENTRAL CITY -- David Tinsley, 84, of Central City died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. He was born in Ohio County, was a retired mechanic from the Tennessee Valley Authority and attended Woodson Baptist Church in Powderly. He was a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Lorine Oglesby Tinsley; two sons, Charles A. Haney of Cornelius, N.C., and Craig Haney of Central City; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, James Huel Tinsley of Edgewater, Fla., John Walton Tinsley of Beechmont and Joe Tinsley of Louisville; two sisters, Florence Fraze of Noblesville, Ind., and Earlene Watkins of Edgewater, Fla.; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 11 a.m. Friday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens in Powderly. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ross Bridges Jr.
13 October 1999

HOPKINSVILLE -- Ross Bridges Jr., 66, of Hopkinsville died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at his home. He was born in Cadiz, was a member of Corinth Baptist Church in Cadiz, was an Army veteran and civil service retiree from Fort Campbell.

Survivors include two daughters, Cynthia Wilson of Owensboro and Thelma Irene Dunnigan of Joliet, Ill.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Roy Lee Bridges of Cadiz; and a sister, Ophelia Brown of Hopkinsville.

Services are at 1 p.m. Friday at Corinth Baptist Church in Cadiz. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Gamble Funeral Home in Hopkinsville.

Collette Wescott
12 October 1999

PALMDALE, Calif. -- Collette Wescott, 90, of Palmdale died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at A.V. Hospital. She was born in Stanley and was a homemaker. She volunteered at Palmdale Senior Center as a tax volunteer, in emergency food service, the bridge club and was active in AARP. She won the Palmdale Civic Award twice for her volunteer work in the city. She enjoyed baking, cooking, growing fruits, vegetables and prizewinning lilacs, knitting and quilting. She also enjoyed playing cards and won many awards in bridge.

Survivors include two sons, Ron Bartley of Camarillo, Calif., and Tom Bartley of San Diego; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild; three brothers, Dick Drury and J.L. Drury, both of Owensboro; and Joe Drury of Mission Hills, Calif.; and four sisters, Mary Edna Payne and Margaret Willett, both of Owensboro, Ann Polizzi of Fort Worth, Texas, and Pauline Alvey of Mission Hills.

Services were at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Palmdale. Halley-Olson Funeral Home in Palmdale was in charge of the arrangements.

James H. Pinkston
3 March 2000

James H. Pinkston, 60, of Utica died Thursday, March 2, 2000, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. He was born in Utica, was a crane operator for Yager Materials and was of the Pentecostal denomination. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Joyce Pinkston; a son, Les Pinkston of Hawesville; three daughters, Tammy Lane, Debbie Boone and Jennifer Pinkston, all of Utica; seven grandchildren; five sisters, Dorothy Whitmer, Mary Mosley, Lottie Chamberlain and Beverly Gayle Pinkston, all of Owensboro and Janie Payne of Reynolds Station; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Nickel Ridge cemetery in Daviess County. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mary Thompson Hanners
7 March 2000

Mary Thompson Hanners, 74, of 2316 Azra Court, Owensboro, died Monday, March 6, 2000, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. She was born in Daviess County and was a member of Immaculate Catholic Church. She was a member of Army of Mary and Legion of Mary. Her husband, Vern Hanners, died Sept. 23, 1982.

Survivors include two daughters, Michelle Hagan of Louisville and Lisa Clark of Owensboro; five grandchildren; a brother, Don Thompson of Mesa, Ariz.; a sister, Betty Alderman of Seattle; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Catholic Church in Owensboro. Burial will be in Resurrection cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. today and after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Prayers will be said at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Passionist Nuns, 8564 Crisp Road, Whitesville, KY 42378. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Norman E. Canary
8 March 2000

Norman E. Canary, 88, of 1154 Kentucky 279 South, Owensboro, died Monday, March 6, 2000, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. He was born in Daviess County, was a retired farmer and was a member of Stanley Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by four sons, James Canary in 1952, Thomas "Bud" Canary in 1997, Claude Canary in 1971 and Leroy Canary in 1977.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Helen Hester Canary; five sons, Larry Canary, Joe Canary, Louis Canary and Mike Canary, all of Stanley, and Bruce Canary of Owensboro; three daughters, Betty Hatfield and Genevieve Reddish, both of Stanley, and Sue Boehman of Owensboro; 29 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and two sisters, Essie Deer of Evansville and Lorraine Fifield of Owensboro.

Services are at 1 p.m. Thursday at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Hazel Bentley
9 March 2000

Hazel Bentley, 86, of 4341 Landsdowne North, Owensboro, died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at Bon Harbor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Owensboro. She was born in Letcher County, was retired from real estate management and was a member of Owensboro Christian Church.

Survivors include a son, Robert D. Craft of Ona, W.Va.; a daughter, Betty Anne Taylor of Owensboro; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Graveside services are at 10 a.m. Friday at Owensboro Memorial Gardens cemetery. There is no visitation. James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro is in charge of arrangements.
