GREENVILLE - Charles Elvin "C.E." Dukes, 95, of Greenville died Friday, July 6, 2001, at his home. The Muhlenberg County native was a member of North Main Church of Christ in Greenville, He was a retired coal miner, truck driver and farmer.

Survivors include two sons, Charles Dukes of Greenville and Perry Dukes of Powderly; a daughter, Judith Kay Smalling of St. Petersburg, Fla.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services are at 1 p.m. Sunday at Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will be in Carter Creek cemetery. Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Martha H. 'Marty' Kirkner
16 October 2001

Martha H. "Marty" Kirkner, 62, of 1651 W. 4th St., Owensboro, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, at Carrollton County Memorial Hospital. The Ohio County native was a Baptist.

Survivors include two daughters, Sabrina Henry of Carrollton and Lisa Stewart of Bowling Green; four grandchildren; a brother, Jack Henry of Hartford; and a sister, Jenna H. Smith of Hartford.

Memorial services are pending. The body was cremated. James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro is in charge of arrangements.

Flora Amanda Henry McCaslin

HAWESVILLE - Flora Amanda Henry McCaslin, 72, of Hawesville died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, at Heartland Villa in Lewisport. The Owensboro native was a member of Crabtree Avenue Baptist Church and a homemaker. She enjoyed her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, flowers, eating out and shopping.

Survivors include four sons, Jack McCaslin and Roger McCaslin, both of Lewisport, and Mike McCaslin and Sterling McCaslin, both of Hawesville; two daughters, Karen Fleming and Dianne Estes, both of Hawesville; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; five brothers, William Henry and John Henry, both of Ft. Worth. Texas, and Hewitt Henry, Robert Henry and James Henry, all of Owensboro; three sisters, Bonnie Walker of Ft. Worth, and Patty Henry and Nancy Henry, both of Owensboro; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Union Baptist Church near Hawesville, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is after 2 p.m. today and until 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Gibson & Son Funeral Home in Hawesville. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Union Baptist Church Improvement Fund.

Herman C. Moseley

Herman C. Moseley, 67, of 1867 Airport Road, Owensboro, died there Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001. The Ohio County native retired from Kentucky State Highway Department as Daviess County foreman. He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church and an Army Reserve veteran for 14 years.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Lucille Shultz Moseley; two daughters, Cynthia Harbin of Prospect and Deborah Garrett of Hawesville; three grandchildren; four brothers, James Cecil Moseley and Arthur Moseley, both of Evansville, Richard Moseley of Crete, Ill., and Kenneth Moseley of Steiger, Ill.; and four sisters, Mary Lindsey of Beaver Dam, Gracie Hall and Gladys Lyons, both of Owensboro, and Ruby Fulton of Paducah.

Services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Richland Baptist Church cemetery in McLean County. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Riverside Baptist Church Building Fund, 3703 U.S. 60 East, Owensboro, KY 42303 or Hospice Association, 723 Harvard Drive, Owensboro, KY 42301.

William A. Daniel Sr.

William A. Daniel Sr., 78, of 3126 Adams Court, Owensboro, died there Friday, July 6, 2001. The Owensboro native retired from Willamette Industries and was an Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a member of First Christian Church, Masonic Lodge 143 in Madisonville and the Rizpah Shrine Temple.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Vernita Renfrow Daniel; a son, William Daniel Jr. of St. Louis; a daughter, Deborah Daniel Yates of Owensboro; two grandchildren; and a sister, Sue Daniel Maglinger of Owensboro.

Services are at 1 p.m. Monday at James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro. Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday and after 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice Association, 723 Harvard Drive, Owensboro, KY 42301 or First Christian Church, 701 Daviess St., Owensboro, KY 42303.

Gladys N. Burge
28 July 2001

INDIANAPOLIS - Gladys N. Fowler Burge, 70, of Indianapolis died there Thursday, July 26, 2001. The Owensboro native worked at G C Murphy store in Glendale for 10 years and retired from Westlane Junior High School after three years.

Survivors include her husband, William F. Burge Jr.; three sons, William Leslie Burge, Carl Franklin Burge and James Wayne Burge; a daughter, Sandra Naoma Piltz; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Joe Fowler; and two sisters, Edna Muffet and Pauline Ambs.

Services are at 1 p.m. Monday at Flanner & Buchanan Broad Ripple Mortuary in Indianapolis. Burial will be in Washington Park North. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Marie C. Kruse

HENDERSON - Marie C. Kruse, 96, of Henderson died there Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Methodist Hospital. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Henderson. Her husband, Alvin J. Kruse, died in 1975.

Survivors include two sons, Alvin J. Kruse of Hawesville and George Kruse of Van Nuys, Calif.; three daughters, Marian Kruse of Henderson, Evelyn Coleman of Brentwood, Mo., and JoAnne Ochsner of Evansville; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services are at 2 p.m. Monday at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home in Henderson. Burial will be in Fairmont cemetery in Henderson. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and after 9:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Trinity Lutheran Church.

Chester Douglas Phillips

SACRAMENTO - Chester Douglas Phillips, 77, of Sacramento died there Friday, Oct. 5, 2001, at his home. The Muhlenberg County native was a member of Brier Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church and had worked as an Island Creek Security worker at Furniture Factory and the Murphy-Miller Company.

Survivors include his wife, Mabel Jewell Phillips; four sons, Doug Phillips, Billie Phillips, Lockie Phillips and Danny Phillips, all of Sacramento; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Grover Phillips of Owensboro.

Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Tucker Memorial Chapel in Sacramento. Burial will be in Brier Creek cemetery in Bremen. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Douglas Rhineburger
8 October 2001

Vernon Douglas Rhineburger, 81, of 730 Pennbrooke Ave., Owensboro, died there Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001. He was a farmer, a Pentecostal and enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Vera Dean Sapp Rhineburger; six sons, William Carroll Ezell, Jerry Rhineburger, Terry Rhineburger, Roger Rhineburger and David Rhineburger, all of Owensboro, and Larry Rhineburger of Chicago; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Sarah Grego of Arizona and Dorothy Gootee of Stanley.

Services are at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Owensboro Memorial Gardens, Christ Chapel. Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro.

Joan Withers Sullivan

Joan Withers Sullivan, 69, of 1345 W. 15th St., Owensboro, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Jamestown native was a member of Owensboro Christian Church and enjoyed garage sales, flowers and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Robert G. "Bob" Sullivan; a son, Rob Sullivan of Nashville; a daughter, Sherrie Howard of Owensboro; six grandchildren; a brother, Don Withers of Flagler Beach, Fla.; and four sisters, Elizabeth Garner of Russell Springs, Virginia Grimsley of Fairfax, Va., Cotton Heisel of Dayton, Ohio, and Molly Stimson of Montgomery, Texas.

Services are at 1 p.m. Monday at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. FORDSVILLE - Jo Nell Leach, 67, of Fordsville died Friday, July 27, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Fordsville native retired after teaching school for 39 years. She was a member of Fordsville Baptist Church and a graduate of Kentucky Wesleyan College. She was preceded in death by her husband, Authur Gene Leach.

Survivors include a son, Phillip Grady Leach of Fordsville; and a granddaughter.

Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Fordsville Baptist Church. Burial will be in Fordsville cemetery. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Geary Funeral Home in Fordsville.

Kate Coleman Adkins
7 July 2001

Kate Coleman Adkins, 92, of Utica died Friday, July 6, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Butler County native was a homemaker and member of Buck Creek Baptist Church in McLean County. She enjoyed gardening, quilting and time with family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Adkins, on Feb. 7, 1970; and a daughter, Hazel Atherton, on March 1, 2001.

Survivors include five sons, Robert Adkins of Gray, Tenn., Rollie Adkins and Roger Adkins, both of Cecilia, and Rodna Adkins and Roy Adkins, both of Utica; a daughter, Hilda Delaney of Hartford; 24 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; her stepmother; two half brothers; and two half sisters.

Services are at 1 p.m. Sunday at Muster Funeral Homes, Livermore Chapel. Burial will be in Smith cemetery near Brooklin. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Buck Creek Baptist Church, c/o Rev. Jeff French, 4161 U.S. 431 North, Calhoun, KY 42327.
