Joan Bamberger, 83, of 409 E. Third St., Owensboro, died there Wednesday, July 4, 2001. The Daviess County native was a secretary at OMU and was a member of SS. Joseph & Paul Catholic Church.

Survivors include a brother, Arch Bamberger of Owensboro; and a sister, Helen Hazel of Owensboro.

Services are at 10 a.m. today at SS. Joseph & Paul Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mater Dolorosa cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to SS. Joseph & Paul Building Fund, 609 E. 6th St., Owensboro, KY 42301. Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Jason Andrew 'Radar' O'Bryan

Jason Andrew O'Bryan, 21, of 4017 Kensington Place, Owensboro, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System of cancer. The Owensboro native was a 1998 graduate of Owensboro Catholic High School. He played football for four years as a tight end and free safety, was co-captain of the 1997 state runner-up team and was inducted into the 2001 Aces Football Hall of Fame. He had worked at Old Hickory Pit Bar-B-Q and had attended Lexington and Owensboro community colleges.

Survivors include his mother, Lynn Schaick O'Bryan of Owensboro; his father, David O'Bryan of Owensboro; a sister, Amy Millay of Owensboro; his grandparents, Lester and Helen Schaick of Owensboro and Ann Lanier of Lexington; and one niece.

Services are at 1 p.m. Monday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home. Prayers will be said at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Rosehill cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice.

John Allen 'Bob' Thompson
8 July 2001

LOUISVILLE - John Allen "Bob" Thompson, 71, of Louisville died there Thursday, July 5, 2001, at Caritas Medical Center. The Daviess County native retired from Reynolds Aluminum Supply Co. and was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Virdia Decker Thompson; a stepson, James Decker; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Anthony Thompson; and six sisters, Betty Lawrence, Dorothy Hodgin, Helen Trogden, Joan Thompson, Shirley Chrisman and Rita Tyree.

Services are at 1 p.m. EDT Monday at J.B. Ratterman & Sons-Southwest in Lousiville. Burial will be in Louisville Memorial Gardens West. Visitation is from 2 to 9 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to American Heart Association.

Wilma Rachels

BEAVER DAM - Wilma Rachels, 71, of Beaver Dam died Saturday, July 7, 2001, at her home. The Newburgh, Ind., native was a member of Holy Redemmer Catholic Church. Her husband, Thurman Rachels, died in 1995.

Survivors include a son; Larry Rachels of Beaver Dam; a daughter, Joann M. Thomas of Cromwell; a stepson, Jack Rachels of Lebanon, Ill.; a stepdaughter, Marislee Rachels of Lebanon; three grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; two brothers, Herb Hartz of Evansville and Kenny Hartz of Newburgh; and five sisters, Roberta Gorman and Cecilia Crane, both of Evansville, Marcella Scheller of Newburgh, Patty Doogs of St. Croix, Ind., and Millie Royster of Henderson.

Services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Redemmer Catholic Church. Burial will be in Sunnyside cemetery in Beaver Dam. Visitation is from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Prayers will be said at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Holy Redemmer Catholic Church or Hospice of Ohio County.

Roy E. Penrod

BOWLING GREEN - Roy E. Penrod, 82, of Bowling Green died Friday, July 27, 2001, at The Medical Center at Bowling Green. The Beech Creek native retired as an accountant and printer.

Survivors include a son, Larry Penrod of Goose Creek, S.C.; four daughters, Trina Hall of Bowling Green, Connie Hearst of Erie, Mich., Melody Taylor of Somerset and Tami Wash of Bradenton, Fla.; 17 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two brothers, David Penrod of Bowling Green and Andrew Penrod of Willow Park, Texas.

Services are at 2 p.m. Monday at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Burial will be in Sunnyside cemetery in Beaver Dam. Visitation is from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Cierra Marie Rose
28 July 2001

YOKOTA AIR FORCE BASE, Japan - Cierra Marie Rose, infant daughter of Paul Joseph and Aimee Jill Rose, died Friday, July 20, 2001, at Yokota Air Base Hospital.

Survivors also include her paternal grandparents, Gene T. Rose of Central City and Kathy J. Poston of Owensboro; her maternal grandparents, Louis Baggarly of Central City and Julie Wooldridge of Owensboro; her paternal great-grandmother, Loretta Grace of Greenville; her maternal great-grandparents, Roger Smith of Rockport, Ky., Bonita Warren of Hartford and Betty Blissitt of Central City; a brother, Hunter Baggarly of Yokota; and several uncles and aunts.

Services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Christ Chapel at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro is in charge of arrangements.

LEWISBURG - Helen Martin, 83, of Lewisburg died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at Hearthstone Place in Elkton. The Todd County native was a homemaker and member of Lewisburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Marvine Hunt of Lewisburg; two grandsons; two granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 2 p.m. today at Price Funeral Home in Lewisburg. Burial will be in Lewisburg cemetery.

Pauline B. 'Polly' Harrison

Pauline B. "Polly" Harrison, 86, of 2701 Frederica Street, Owensboro, died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Henderson County native was a homemaker and member of Third Baptist Church. She was a Sunday school teacher, choir member and past president of Owensboro City PTA. Her husband, Roy M. Harrison, died Jan. 22, 1994.

Survivors include a son, Dr. Richard Miller Harrisson of Covington, La.; a daughter, Marilyn H. Holland of Champaign, Ill.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Shelby L. Boswell and James L. Boswell, both of Henderson; and three sisters, Mary Oliver, Jeanette Hazelwood and Sara Westerfield, all of Owensboro.

Services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Third Baptist Church Music Department, 527 Allen St., Owensboro, KY 42301.

Albert Greer
8 July 2001

Albert Greer, 97, of One Park Place, Owensboro, died Saturday, July 7, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Hartford native retired from Standard Oil Co. in Whiting, Ind., after 30 years of service as an administration supervisor. He attended Unitarian Universalist Congregation and had graduated from Murray State University in 1931 and from Whitesville High School in 1924. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lillian Greer; his second wife, Elizabeth Greer; and his son, William Gene Greer, in 1959.

Survivors include four grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Burial will be at a later date at Ridgelawn cemetery in Gary, Ind. James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro is handling arrangements.

Joe F. Troutman

LIVERMORE - Joe F. Troutman, 95, of Livermore died there Thursday, July 26, 2001, at his daughter's home. The McLean County native was a farmer and retired from the state highway department. He was a member and deacon of Old Buck Creek Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with family and friends. His wife, Pearlie D. Troutman, died Oct. 10, 1974; his son, Kenneth E. Troutman, died Jan. 5, 1998; and his daughter, Beatrice Stallings, died Dec. 15, 1996.

Survivors include two daughters, Ann Mauzy and Pat Hyde, both of Livermore; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, A. Roy Troutman of Calhoun.

Services are at 3 p.m. Sunday at Muster Funeral Homes, Livermore Chapel. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill cemetery in McLean County. Visitation is after 4 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Joe F. Troutman's great-grandson, The Jacob Whitt Fund, c/o ABC Bank, P.O. Box 130; Calhoun, KY 42327.

Marjorie L. Hankins

Marjorie L. Hankins, 82, of 604 Elm St., Owensboro, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Owensboro native was a member of Fourth Street Baptist Church, Willing Workers, Kentucky Colonels, Volunteers of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 696, Amaranth Chapter 46 Order of the Easter Star and Owensboro Homemakers. She was a retired beautician and loved to read, grow flowers, cook and make crafts. Her son Nathaniel C. Thompson died March 4, 2001.

Survivors include her husband, Jesse Hankins; a son, Monnie Hankins of Louisville; a daughter, Jean A. Coleman of Owensboro; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a brother, William Watson of Owensboro; a sister, S. Wayne Kuykendall of Owensboro; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 2 p.m. Monday at Fourth Street Baptist Church. Entombment will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church. Order of Eastern Star services will be at 6 p.m. Sunday at the church. McFarland Funeral Home in Owensboro is in charge of arrangements.

Mildred Gideon Erwin
8 July 2001

Mildred Gideon Erwin, 78, of 3709 Thruston Dermont Road, Owensboro, died Friday, July 6, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Owensboro native was a member of First Baptist Church, Philpot Homemakers and Service Sunday school class. She enjoyed gardening, crafts and spending time with family. Her husband, Edwin D. "Bud" Erwin, died Nov. 28, 1998.

Survivors include three sons, Edwin D. Erwin Jr. of Louisville, Larry Erwin of Clovis, N.M., and Mark L. Erwin of Atlanta; a daughter, Debra DeJarnette of Largo, Fla.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Wanda Ballew of Owensboro.

Services are at 2:30 p.m. Monday at James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 2 to 6 p.m. today and after noon Monday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Kentucky Baptist Homes for Children, 10200 Linn Station Road, Suite 200, Louisville, KY 40223-9964.
