Clara Fuchs Nance
1 December 2001

Clara Fuchs Nance, 96, of 209 E. 24th St., Owensboro, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at Hermitage Manor Nursing and Rehab Center in Owensboro. The Hancock County native retired from South Central Bell after 47 years of service. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Joy Sunday school class, Senior Adult Choir, Young at Heart Adult Group, Order of the Eastern Star and was past president of Owensboro Business and Professional Women's Club. Her husband, William B. Nance, died in 1961.

Survivors include a brother, William E. Fuchs of Louisville; 13 nephews and nieces; and 23 great-nephews and nieces.

Services are at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to First Baptist Church Memorial Fund.

Rex Jones

GREENVILLE - Rex Jones, 63, of Greenville died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington following a brief illness. The Detroit native was a general maintenance worker for London Construction. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Browder and a Vietnam veteran.

Survivors include a brother, Jerry Jones of Greenville; a sister, Doris Bis of Detroit; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 11 a.m. today at Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will be in Greenbriar cemetery in Greenville. Visitation is after 9 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Eliza Lee Smith

Eliza Lee Smith, 94, of Owensboro died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, at Leisure Years Nursing Home. The Daviess County native was a homemaker and member of SS. Joseph & Paul Catholic Church. She enjoyed canning, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Aloysius "A.M." Smith, on Nov. 6, 1984; and a daughter, Mary Ruth McDaniel, on Feb. 21, 1992.

Survivors include a son, Raymond M. Smith of Philpot; two daughters, Wanda Ward of Owensboro and Betty Heifner of Cadiz; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Harlan Pate of Owensboro; and two sisters, Rose Nation and Ruth Stephens, both of Owensboro.

Services are at 10 a.m. Friday at SS. Joseph & Paul Catholic Church in Owensboro. Burial will be in Resurrection cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 1 to 8 p.m. today and after 8:30 a.m. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Prayers will be said at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Linda Ann Wakeland

MARIANNA, Fla. - Linda Ann Wakeland, 48, of Marianna died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, at Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Ala. The Jefferson County native was a certified nursing assistant.

Survivors include a son, Ryan Neal Wakeland of Marianna; her mother, Lydia R. Smith of Marianna; a brother, David Smith of Florida; three sisters, Carolyn Jones of Florida, Barbara Burden of Central City and Marilyn Vining of Idaho; three nephews and three nieces; and a great-nephew and four great-nieces.

Services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Central City. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Margaret L. 'Maggie' McNatt

ORLANDO, Fla. - Margaret L. "Maggie" McNatt, 69, of Orlando died Monday, Dec. 10, 2001. The Beals native was a Protestant and member of Women's International Bowling Congress.

Survivors include her husband, Robert N. McNatt of Orlando; two sons, Robert W. McNatt of Oviedo, Fla., and Charles D. McNatt of Adairsville, Ga.; a daughter, Sharon Y. McNatt of Orlando; four grandchildren; three brothers, Bluford Varble of Sanford, Fla., Homer Varble of Henderson and Charles Varble of Orlando; and two sisters, Martina Bruner of Owensboro and Belinda Tapp of Corydon.

Arrangements are pending at Baldwin-Fairchild Funeral Home, Lake Ivanhoe chapel, in Orlando.

Joseph B. Millay

Joseph B. Millay, 87, of 808 Ford Ave., Owensboro, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Daviess County native retired from Brunswick Corp. and was a member of Immaculate Catholic Church. He played baseball with a St. Louis Cardinals farm team, enjoyed athletics and was a member of Owensboro Bowling Association Hall of Fame. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a Kentucky Colonel. A son, William Thomas Millay, died in 1949.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Janice B. Cooke Millay; two sons, Berkeley Millay of Atlanta and William Millay of Pensacola, Fla.; a daughter, Patricia Hurd of White Salmon, Wash.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Edward Millay of Evansville; and a sister, Dorothy Weigele of Evansville.

Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Catholic Church in Owensboro. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Prayers will be said at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice Association, St. Vincent DePaul of Immaculate Catholic Church or HELP Office.

Roy L. Goodman

Roy L. Goodman, 69, of 2107 Keenland Parkway, Owensboro, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, at his home. The Owensboro native retired from Commonwealth Aluminum Co., was vice president of Colony Mobile Estates Association and attended Yellow Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Craig Goodman; a son, Ray Goodman of Owensboro; three stepsons, Robert Craig, William Craig and Curtis Craig, all of Owensboro; a daughter, Debbie Alvey of Owensboro; a stepdaughter, Vanessa Jones of Lewisport; four grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Samuel Goodman and Marvin Goodman, both of Louisville; and two sisters, Jane Myers of Masonville and Anna Hensley of Louisville.

Services are at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice Association, 723 Harvard Drive, Owensboro, KY 42301.

Edith Gillespie Moore

CENTRAL CITY - Edith Gillespie Moore, 54, of Central City died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. She worked at Flynn Corp.

Survivors include her husband, Michael R. Moore; three sons, Bobby Williams of Columbus, Ohio, Michael Reed of Fordsville and Michael Moore of Bremen; four daughters, Kelly Warner of Loves Park, Ill., Michelle Moore of Bremen, Monica Moore of Greenville and Destiny Moore of Central City; six grandchildren; a brother, Robert Gillespie of Stockton, Ohio; and a sister, Anna Maye of Stockton.

Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Central City. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Shirley Irene Francies

ELKTON - Shirley Irene Francies, 60, of Elkton died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at her home following a lengthy illness. The Kinkade, Ill., native was a member of Westside Church of Christ, Alan Jackson Fan Club and provided home care for the elderly. She enjoyed fishing, Dachshund dogs and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons, Paul Martin Jr. of Elkton and Robert William Robinson of Springfield, Tenn.; a daughter, Paula Martin Lamar of Owensboro; four grandchildren; and two brothers, Tommy Laughlin and Larry Laughlin.

Services are at 1 p.m. today at Latham Funeral Home in Elkton. Burial will be in France cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to National Down Syndrome Society.

Dorothy Nell Marksberry Roberts

Dorothy Nell Marksberry Roberts, 65, of Philpot died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, at Leisure Years Nursing Home. The Daviess County native had worked at Wee Peoples Nursery for eight years and was a homemaker. She was a member of Providence United Methodist Church and enjoyed flower gardening, cooking, helping others and spending time with her grandchildren. Her husband, Thomas Hampton Roberts, died April 28, 2001.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas Scott Roberts of Owensboro and Danny Ray Roberts of Philpot; a daughter, Debbie Kay Martin of Philpot; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; a stepgreat-grandchild; a brother, Fred Marksberry of Philpot; and five sisters, Wilma Roberts, Edna Mae Henderson and Helen Roberts, all of Philpot, Marie Wilson of Pleasant Ridge and June Embry of Owensboro.

Services are at 2 p.m. Monday at Providence United Methodist Church in Philpot. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 1 to 8 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Birdine Carver

BROWDER - Birdine Carver, 82, of Browder died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. The Muhlenberg County native was a retired coal miner.

Survivors include a son, William Earl Carver of Penrod; two daughters, Carolyn Jean Brinkley of Browder and Diane Fitzhugh of Beechmont; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Donald Carver of Greenville.

Services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home. Burial will be in Ebenezer cemetery in Muhlenberg County. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
