Andrew Butler Colley, Jr., 78, of Owensboro died January 1, 2015. He was born April 12, 1936 in Louisville to the late Andrew B. Colley, MD, and Loy Campbell Colley. He was a founding member of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Owensboro retiring from his last service on the Board of Trustees in May 2014.

Andy was known for his compassion, kindness, and gentleness. He had a generous spirit for service that included chauffeuring friends, neighbors, and church members to medical appointments, community activities, and daily errands. His interests were wide-ranging, but his love for sports was unbounded; he recently finished a book on the use of biomechanics in sports performance. His death will be a significant loss for family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister, Mary Colley Alexander (1991.) He is survived by a brother-in-law, Christopher Alexander; nephew, Christopher “Kit” (Willow) Alexander of Chicago, IL; two nieces, Susan Alexander of Bern, Switzerland and Meg (Charles) Johnson of Richmond, VA, and their children, Lucy and Christopher.

Visitation will be Saturday, 3 January at 12:30 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Owensboro (corner of Cedar and Parrish) with Funeral Service to follow at 1:30 pm. Burial will be at Oak Grove cemetery at Dixon, KY.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Owensboro 1221 Cedar Street, Owensboro, KY 42301 or Hospice of Western Kentucky 3419 Wathen's Crossing, Owensboro, KY 42301.

Dale Knight Jr.

Earnest Dale Knight Jr. 32, of Owensboro died Sunday March 22, 2015 at his home. He was born August 5, 1982 in Daviess County. Dale was employed at US Bank Home Mortgage. He enjoyed his family, friends, and taking care of his two dogs.

Dale was preceded in death by his father, Earnest Dale Knight Sr.; mother, Karen Sue Knight; grandmother, Doris Jean Bunch; grandfather, Artis Lee Bunch Sr.; and uncle, Artis Lee Bunch Jr.

Survivors include his sister Jennifer L. Kuhna (Mark) and children Hunter and Keeley; brother, Trent Aaron Knight and children, Kaylee and Kensley; grandfather, Stewart Knight; uncles Gary (Pam) Bunch, Kevin Bunch, Joe Boehman, and Barry Sapp; aunt Vicky Bunch; a family friend Jennifer Jones; and several cousins.

Service will be 2 pm Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow in Little Flock cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8pm Tuesday at the funeral home.

Lillian Davis Mayfield

Lillian Davis Mayfield, 89, of Owensboro, died Thursday, September 08, 2005, at her home. She was born January 27, 1916 to the late Harvey and Elodia Raymer Smith in Breckenridge County. She was a homemaker, a member of St. Stephen Cathedral and she enjoyed gardening, working in her yard, and cooking.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis X. “Zeb” Mayfield, who died June 19, 1997, two sons, Bobby Mayfield, who died September 8, 1995, and Barry Mayfield, who died May 28, 2004, and a grandson, Jonathan Clark, who died October 12, 1985.

Survivors include four sons, David Mayfield and his wife, Vena, of Owensboro, Harold “Ernie” Mayfield and his wife, Pat, of Utica, Lawes Mayfield and his wife, Sharon, of Utica, Terry Mayfield and his wife, Lisa of Cornelius, NC; four daughters, Sharon Logsdon and her husband, Bob, of Owensboro, Sue Wedding and her husband, Denny, of Yelvington, Mona Clark and her husband, Ronnie, of Owensboro, Jackie Mattingly of Owensboro; one daughter-in-law, Brenda Mayfield, of Owensboro, one sister, Daisy Carroll, of Owensboro, and twenty-two grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Stephen Cathedral conducted by Father John Vaughan. Burial will immediately follow in Resurrection cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday and from 8:30 until time of the service Monday at Glenn Funeral Home, with prayers at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Association, 723 Harvard Drive, Owensboro, KY, 42301.

John Minor Abel

Mr. John Minor Abel, 75, of 4607 McIntire Crossing, Owensboro, Ky., died Monday, July 28, 2003, at the North Park Nursing Home in Evansville, IN., He was born November 8, 1927, of William Lamar and Olivia Rumage Abel, in Evansville, IN.
He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, a veteran of WW II and the Korean War, he retired from the Army after 22 years of service and also retired from the US Postal Service

Survivors include his wife, Bernice Moore Abel, of 53 years, one son, John Lamar Abel of Owensboro, Ky., two daughters, Leslie Ann Crask, of Madison, IN., and Bernadette Roby, of Whitesville. Thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, one brother, Pat Abel, of Owensboro, three sisters, Virdie Stevens, of Jacksonville, FL., Nancy Bumm, of Owensboro, and Betty Jean Young, of Rockport, IN.

Funeral services will be 12:00 PM Friday, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, with entombment in Resurrection cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 till 8:00 PM Thursday, at Glenn Funeral Home, with prayers being said at. 6:00 PM. Visitation Friday will be after. 10:00 AM Contribution may be made to St. Joseph Peace Mission for children, P.O. Box 23108, Owensboro, Ky. 42304.

Evelyn L. Baker, 85, of 1200 E. Byers Ave., Owensboro, passed away Monday, January 12, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born in Henderson Co., Ky. and was retired from civil service in the Communications Office at Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio, Texas. She was of the Christian Church faith.
Surviving is her daughter, Kaye Howard of Owensboro, 3 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.
Private services will be held. Glenn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

James Darrell Abell, 68, of 6101 Old Hwy 54, Philpot, Ky., died November 30, 2004 at the home of his daughter. He retired from SW Anderson’s Department Store. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, K of C Chapter 2046 Whitesville, KY 3rd Degree, Daviess Co. Lions Club, and he was a Kentucky Colonel. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Jo Abell, his parents, Lloyd and Bessie Cooper Abell, his daughter, Becky Conder, his brother, Carl Abell, and his sister, Maxine Rhodes.

Mr. Abell is survived by one son, Glenn Abell and wife Laquita of Owensboro; two daughters, Debbie Embry and husband Bob of Owensboro and Patty Hines and husband Bobby of Philpot; four brothers, Robert H. (Dugger) Abell of Whitesville, William R. Abell of Fordsville, Kenneth Abell of Louisville and Donnie Abell of Bluff, Ill; one sister, Shirley Coomes of Louisville; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, December 3, 2004. Visitation will be on Thursday, December 2, 2004 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Glenn Funeral Home with prayers at 6:00 p.m. Burial will be in Resurrection cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice.

Jesse Alexander Addington, Jr.

Jesse A. “Red” Addington, Jr. 83, of 313 Longfellow Drive, passed away Friday, December 11th 2004 at Hillcrest Healthcare Center. He was preceded in death by his parents Jesse A and Nell Keller Addington, Sr.

He was retired from Sears, Roebuck and Company after 38 years. He was a member of St. John United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge – Monsarret #179 in Panther. He served in the Army during WWII, enjoyed gardening and spending time at Rough River.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Ruth Addington; one son, David Glenn Addington (Debbie) of Owensboro; two grandchildren, Christopher Addington and Natalie Addington both of Owensboro; and one brother Jay Dee Addington (Pat) of Clarksville, TN.

Services will be held on Monday, December 13th at 2:30 p.m. at Glenn Funeral Home. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 12th from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. and after 11 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the St. John United Methodist Church.

James W. Zoglman, 72, of 4875 Veach Road, Owensboro, died Tuesday April 5, 2005 at his home. Mr. Zoglman was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. He was in the last graduating class of St. Francis Acadamy. He received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting at Brescia College in 1955, and began working for Alexander and Company ,that fall, before he was drafted into the Navy in November of 1955. He retired from Alexander & Co. in 1997.He enjoyed tax preparation and did returns in his home after retiring. He also enjoyed traveling.
He was preceded in death by his parents,Frank and Edwina ( Logsdon ) Zoglman. He is survived by a sister, Virginia Zoglman of Owensboro,an aunt, Lucy Drury and husband, Dennis of Homosassa Springs, Florida, three godchildren, Linda Logsdon of Philpot, Ann Howard of Whitesville, and David Medley of Corydon, Kentucky, and several cousins.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 9, 2005 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetry. Visitation is 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, with prayers at 7 p.m., and after 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the building fund of Our Lady of Lourdes.

Florence Christie Abel

Florence A. Christie Abel, 89, passed away April 24, 2005 at Leisure Years Nursing Home. She was born June 1, 1915 in Maceo, Kentucky to Benjamin and Talfa (Sapp) Ladd. Florence was a lifelong resident of Daviess County and a member of Crabtree Avenue Baptist Church. She had also been a longtime member of Third Baptist Church as a young mother. She worked at General Electric in the 1940s and later retired from Fields Packing Company in 1979 after 25 years of service. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and visiting with friends and family. She was preceded in death by husband, Samuel Ernest Christie in 1980; husband, Virgil F. Abel in 1986; a granddaughter, Karen Nantz in 1991; a sister. Mary Hayden in 2003; and a son-in-law, Dr. Matthew Moroz in 2005.

Surviving are her children, Doris D. Moroz of Nashville, TN, Bobby T. Christie (Kathy) of Owensboro, Martine L. Bailey (Arnold) of Nashville, TN, Alan S. Christie (Betty) of Owensboro, Larry Stephen Christie (M. Lee) of Springfield, Ill, and James S, Christie of Owensboro; one step-son, Allen Abel (Carol) of Bowling Green; a step-daughter, Lindia O’Connor of Lilburn, GA; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 3 step-great grandchildren; and one brother, Bob Ladd of Owensboro. Florence is also survived by four faithful caretakers who were her lifeline to the world; Cecilia Christie, Donna Head, Lesley St. John, and Marilyn Wilkins.

Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27th at Glenn Funeral Home with Pastor Greg Huguley of Lewis Lane Baptist Church officiating. Visitation will be from 2 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday and after 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, Evansville Region, 4770 Covert Ave., Suite No. 211, Evansville, IN 47714.
