Margaret L. Bickwermert Coomes, 86, of the Carmel Home, formerly of 2234 Count Turf Dr., Owensboro, passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at the Carmel Home. She was born in Reed, Ky. to the late Joseph Bernard & Lucy Amelia Schaffer Bickwermert. She was retired from Mt. St. Joseph and had also worked at General Electric Co. in the 1940’s. She was a member of Immaculate Catholic Church and loved attending there, the Legion of Mary, sang in the church funeral choir and was on the bereavement dinner committee that provided meals for families after the funeral service. She also belonged to the Right to Life and was a Ky. Colonel. She enjoyed cooking, china painting, U. K. basketball, working in her flowers, needlework, and loved her dog, Brandy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Malcolm Coomes on October 22, 1997, a sister, Edna Bickwermert, a brother, Joseph Edward Bickwermert, and a great grandson, Richard Matthew Peveler.

Surviving are three sons and their wives, Bob & Joyce Coomes of Salt Lake City, Ut., and David & Mary Coomes and Danny & Linda Coomes, all of Owensboro, three daughters and their husbands, Carolyn & Charles Bullington of Owensboro, Nancy & Bert Robinson of Louisville, and Ann & Kevin Swaidner of Henderson, Ky., a brother, Eugene & wife Bernadette Bickwermert of Owensboro, three sisters, Frances Carrico, Marie James, and Betty & husband Bob Babbitt, all of Owensboro, sisters-in-law, Helen Tipton of Owensboro, Burnette Millay of Stanley, and Catherine Bickwermert of Owensboro, a brother-in-law, Joseph E. & wife Jean Coomes of Stanley, 14 grandchildren, Rick Peveler, Phil Peveler, Jimmy Coomes, Brent Robinson, Ben Robinson, Kristi Coomes, Kevin Coomes, Nathan Coomes, Nick Coomes, Katy Coomes, Cody Coomes, Jordan Swaidner, Kristen Swaidner, and Blake Swaidner, five great grandchildren, Andrew Peveler, Ryan Peveler, Phillip Peveler II, Halle Coomes, and Clementine Coomes.

The Children wish to thank the priests, sisters, and all the staff at the Carmel Home for such great care and concern.

Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 4, at Immaculate Catholic Church with burial following in Mater Dolorosa cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday and after 9:00 A.M. Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home. Prayers will be at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Carmel Home, 2501 Old Hartford Rd., Owensboro, Ky. 42303.

Lisa Gayle Sorrells, 41, of 1706 W. 4th. St., Owensboro, passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2006 at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born in Daviess Co., Ky. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Sorrells on Dec. 26, 2000.

Surviving are two daughters, Melissa Sorrells and Jennifer Sorrells, her companion, David Middleton, a sister, Karen Miller, a brother, Gary Lindsey, and a grandson, Justin Ray Sorrells.

Services will be at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 3, in the Chapel of Rosehill cemetery with burial following there. Visitation will be after 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home.

Avery Ruth Phelps, infant daughter of Jeremy and Melissa Phelps, was born July 6, 2006 at Owensboro Medical Health System.

Surviving are her parents, a sister, Hadley Nicole Phelps, at home; her maternal grandparents, Gary and Krista Powers of Hawesville, her paternal grandparents, Philip and Brenda Phelps of Owensboro; her maternal great-grandmother, Ruby Mayfield of Hawesville, her paternal great-grandmother, Betty Drury of Owensboro and her paternal great-grandfather, James Phelps of Beaver Dam; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Saturday at Mater Dolorosa cemetery. Visitation will be after 9:00 AM Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home.

Thelma Irene Voyles Blincoe, 75, of 301 Longfellow Drive, Owensboro, Kentucky, formerly of Burton Road, Masonville, Kentucky, departed this earth November 4, 2006 to accept her crown of glory and rightful place next to the throne of her Maker and Savior. Beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, friend, and faithful prayer warrior, Thelma will be missed by all who knew her, but her loving spirit will be forgotten by none.

Preceding her in death are her father, Frank B. Voyles, mother, Emma Ethel Houston Voyles, and several half-brothers and half-sisters.

Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Albert Thomas Blincoe; her children and their spouses, Beverly and Matthew Ashauer of Hoisington, KS, Thomas and Pam Blincoe of Kings Mountain, NC, and Sharon Phelps Tanner of Owensboro, her grandchildren and their spouses; Jeremy and Lynn Newcom of VA, Jeni Miller of TN, Robyn Ashauer of KS, Casey Cochran of NC, Cheryl Blincoe of NC, and Valery and Travis Hagan of KY, her great grandchildren, James and Anita Miller, both of TN, her sister and brother-in-law, Connie and John Anderson of Owensboro, her brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Jean Voyles of Hartford, her half-brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Mary Ruth Voyles of TN, and her half sister and brother-in-law, JoAnn and Carlos Hernandez of TN.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 7, 2006 at Glenn Funeral Home with Rev. John Fowler officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Monday, November 6, 2006 from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Pallative Care.

Paul Lynn, Sr.

Paul Lynn, Sr., 81, of Owensboro passed away Sunday, February 11, 2007 at his home. Born April 15, 1925, Mr. Lynn was the son of the late Thomas Jefferson and Mattie Watkins Lynn and was the owner and operator of Paul Lynn Paint, Body and Boat Shop. He enjoyed jet skiing, 4-wheeling, and raising and training quarter horses. Mr. Lynn served on the Board of the Kentucky Quarter Horse Association. His horses won four world championships and one reserve world championship in barrel racing, as well as another horse designated as an American Quarter Horse Association Champion. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Loretta Paulette Lynn in 1947.

A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Mr. Lynn is survived by his wife of 62 years, Edith Johnson Lynn; a son, Paul (and Annette) Lynn, Jr. of Owensboro; and daughters, Paula Lynn Payne of Bartow, FL and Olivia Paulette (and Ed) Clayton of Owensboro; 5 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.

Services were private with Glenn Funeral Home handling arrangements.

Robbie Ann Williams Howard, of Whitesville, passed away on June 5, 2007 at her home. She was born in Mena, Arkansas to the late Robert and Robin Golden Williams. After over 25 years of service to the Merchantile stores she retired from the cosmetics department. She loved gardening, horse racing, and was an avid reader. Also, she was a very devoted family member to all who loved her.

She is survived by her husband Richard Aloyisus Howard; three children, Robert (Sharon) Ralph of Whitesville, Dana (Bobby) Duncan of Owensboro, Ruth (Thomas) Rutherford of Fort Myers, FL; four step-children, Richard (Shellie) Howard of West Virginia, Julie Crowe, Shauna (Nick) Horsman and Jamie Howard, all of Owensboro; nine grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Christine Lothamer of Newburg, IN and Gay-Lynn (Edward) Murray of Houston, TX; two brothers, Sidney (Gloria) Williams of Leland, Mississippi & Bobby (Linda) Williams of Houston, TX; five nephews and three nieces.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 9, 2007 at Glenn Funeral Home. Visitation will be 9 till 2 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery following the service.

The family asks that expressions of sympathy be made to Hospice of Ohio County, 1211 Main St., Hartford, KY 42347.

Stephan Lee “Steve” Weedman, 59, of Owensboro, died Wednesday, June 6, 2007, at Bon Harbor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born January 4, 1948 in Breckenridge County. He was a Christian and a member of First Baptist Church, where he enjoyed being a part of many of the church’s functions. His hobby was collecting time pieces, being outdoors, swinging, rocking, drinking coffee and eating sweets. He loved babies and having visits from his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Lois Howard Weedman.

He is survived by a sister, Betty Ann Fisher and her husband Paul of Hartford, his brothers, Darrell Weedman of Yelvington and Larry Weedman and his wife Jeanette of Owensboro; nieces and nephews, Mary Lynette Brown and her husband Chris, Sherry Weedman and her husband Matt Rudolph, April Trent and her husband Travis, Perry Weedman and his wife Traci; five great-nieces, Mackenzie, Madison, Courtney, Jordan and Grace; two great-nephews, Logan and Micah and a special friend, Lisa Jewell.

Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, at First Baptist Church, with burial in Jolly cemetery in Breckenridge County. Visitation will be 4:00 until 8:00 PM Friday at Glenn Funeral Home and after 9:00 AM Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, 723 Harvard Drive, Owensboro, KY 42301 or the Wendell Foster Campus, 815 Triplett St., Owensboro, KY 42303.

James E. Coomes, 96, died Thursday, August 9, 2007 at Harborside Nursing Home. Mr. Coomes was born in Daviess County to the late James Alphonsus and Matilda Ann (Johnson) Coomes. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. He was a farmer and had retired after 23 years from Glenmore Distillery. Mr. Coomes loved playing cards two or three times a week.

He was preceded in death by his wife Myrtle Coomes; daughter Marjorie Marie Coomes; daughters in law, Elaine Coomes and Joyce Coomes; a son in law, Lambert Cecil; 4 siblings, Hazel Montgomery, William Charles Coomes, Joseph Alphonsus Coomes and Margaret Ann Ryan; and grandsons, Billy Coomes and Michael Cecil and a great grandson Nicolas Porter,

Surviving are his sons, Charles E. Coomes of Houston, TX., Joseph Donald Coomes and James Randall Coomes and his wife Charlotte, both of Owensboro, Richard Eugene Coomes and wife Becki, of Philpot; and a daughter Rose Ann Cecil of Philpot; 13 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren; and a sister, Catherine Brown of Philpot.

Funeral services will be held 10 :00 a.m. Monday, August 13, 2007 at St. Pius X Catholic Church with Fr. Richard Meredith officiating. Burial will follow in Resurrection cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. with prayers at 5 p.m. and also after 8:30 a.m. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home.

Emma Lou Hudson Foreman, 76 of Owensboro died Thursday, August 9, 2007 at Owensboro Medical Health System. Born in Butler County to the late Ray and Bessie Daughtery Hudson, Mrs. Foreman was a member of Bethabara Baptist Church and its Class of Ruth Sunday school class and retired from Bacon’s in 1990. Preceding her in death were her husband, William C. Foreman, her sister, June Leach, and her brothers, Kenneth Hudson and William Hudson.

Survivors include her sons, Gregory Clinton Foreman and his wife Debbie and William Jeffery Foreman and his wife Dede, all of Owensboro; her grandsons, Clint Foreman, Austin Foreman, and Will Foreman; and her granddaughters, Jenifer Foreman and Lauren Foreman, all of Owensboro.

Services, officiated by the Rev. Herschel Morgan, will be at 12:00 noon Monday at Glenn Funeral Home, where visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Sunday and after 9:00 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Memorial Fund of Bethabara Baptist Church.
