Sister Agnes Catherine Williams, 102, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, died Thursday, August 9, at Mount Saint Joseph, in her 82nd year of religious life. She was the oldest member of the community.

A native of Owensboro, she was the daughter of the late William Asa and Catherine Stengell Williams.

An educator for 62 years, she taught at St. Alphonsus School, St. Joseph, 1926-27, 1928-35), and for 17 years at Sts. Joseph and Paul School, Owensboro (1950-67). She taught in the Speech and Hearing Clinic at Brescia College during the early days of that program. She also taught in the Archdiocese of Louisville and in Missouri.

Survivors include nieces and nephews, and the members of her religious community.

The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 13, at Mount Saint Joseph, where visitation will begin Sunday at 4 p.m., with a wake service following at 6:30 p.m.

Glenn Funeral Home, Owensboro, is in charge of arrangements.

Virginia Louise Bell Bollinger

Virginia Louise Bell Bollinger, 82, of Owensboro, passed away Thursday, August 9, 2007 at the Owensboro Medical Health System. Born August 19, 1924 in Daviess County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Bell and Maggie Lee Head Bell; was retired from General Electric; and was a member of South Hampton Baptist Church. She enjoyed wagon rides and collecting dolls. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert Bell.

Mrs. Bollinger is survived by a sister, Beatrice Clauson of Minneapolis, MN; a brother, Roy Bell of Owensboro; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are 10 A.M. Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at Glenn Funeral Home with Rev. Clay Lambert officiating followed by burial in the South Hampton Baptist Church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-6 P.M. on Monday and after 9 A.M. on Tuesday.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Alzheimers Foundation.

Rexie Maywood Leachman

Maywood Leachman, 92 , of Philpot, died Sunday, August 12, 2007 at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born November 12, 1914 in Letcher County to the late Rex and Dovie (Smith) Bowen. She graduated from the Owensboro School of Nursing in 1937 and retired from Owensboro Daviess County Hospital. She was a member of Third Baptist Church.

Mrs. Leachman was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Elbert “Buck” Leachman, a daughter Marion Chubb, a granddaughter Barbie Chubb and siblings Norvel Bowen, Hazel Moore and Elizabeth Mueller.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Leachman, a granddaughter, Heather Chubb, a great grandson, Henry Chubb all of Philpot, brothers Fred (Eva) Bowen of Owensboro, Rex (Tillie) Bowen of Sun City , Arizona, sisters, Georgia Lee of North Hollywood, California, Norine Westerfield of Owensboro, and Nancy Kelley of Winterville, Georgia, and a sister in law, Louise Bowen of Owenboro.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at Glenn Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. James Byrd officiating. Entombment will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Wednesday. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Dr. Joseph C. Roby

Dr. Joseph C. Roby, 82, of Owensboro, died December 19, 2013 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born March 25, 1931 in Rome to the late Hobert and Bernadette Speaks Roby. Joseph graduated from St. Williams High School in Knottsville. He graduated from Brescia University in Owensboro and from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. Joseph interned at Davenport Osteopathic Hospital where he met the love of his life. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Owensboro. Joseph loved music, animals, especially dogs and exotic birds and spending time with his family. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Scott.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Eileen Roby of Owensboro; children, Christy Ann (Steve) Metzger of Glasgow, Ellen (Scott) Hayden of Utica and Dr. Laura (Gary) Taylor of Amelia Island, FL; grandchildren, Ryan and Maria Metzger, Seth, Caleb and Ella Grace Hayden; siblings, Frances Ballard, Charles (Ann) Roby and Catherine (Ralph) Mudd; and several loving nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10 AM on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 PM on Friday with prayers at 7 PM and after 9 AM on Saturday. Care has been entrusted to Glenn Funeral Home & Crematory in Owensboro.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Passionist Nuns Monastery. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Shane Michael Akers, 17, of Strawbridge Place, Owensboro, died Tuesday, February 27, 2001 at Owensboro Mercy Health System of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born in Owensboro, he is the son of Warren Stephen and Leisha Smith Akers. He was a senior at Owensboro High School and a member of Seven Hills Baptist Church. He worked part time with his father at Pepsi-Cola Bottling Co. in Owensboro. Shane had a beautiful smile that was special to his family and to his many friends with whom he loved spending his time. He had a special fondness for working with electronics.

In addition to his parents, survivors include his brother, Jacob Wesley Akers and his grandparents, Carlene M. Smith, Charles E. Smith, and Pauline and Wendell Reeks, all of Owensboro.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home, officiated by Dr. T. A. Prickett and Dr. Robert L. Coons. Burial will follow at Elmwood cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to The American Heart Association, 318 St Elizabeth St., Owensboro, KY 42301. Memorial contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Sister Mary Damien Abell

Sister Mary Damien Abell, 90, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, of Maple Mount, Kentucky died March 22, 2001 at Mount Saint Joseph. She was born in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. She was in the 73rd year of her religious life. She entered the Ursuline Sisters of Mount St. Joseph Community on March 19, 1928.

She was principal of Blessed Mother School, Owensboro, for nineteen years from 1966 to 1985. She was a teacher at Saint Joseph School, Owensboro for ten years and at Saint Alphonsus School, St. Joseph, KY. She was librarian at Mary Carrico School, Knottsville before retiring at Mount Saint Joseph in 1993. She also, taught at Saint Columba School, Saint Paul School, Saint Denis School in Louisville. She was principal of Saint Charles School, Lebanon, and Saint Francis School in Saint Francis, KY.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Services are at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 26, 2001 at Mount Saint Joseph Chapel, in Maple Mount. Burial will be in the Convent cemetery in Maple Mount. Visitation is after 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Mount Saint Joseph Chapel. A Wake Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Mount Saint Joseph Chapel.

James R. Allen

James R. Allen, 81, of 2829 Wayside Drive West, Owensboro, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001 at his home. Born in Daviess County, Kentucky on June 28, 1919, he was the son of the Lee Allen and Nellie Barnett Allen.

Mr. Allen was retired from the Kentucky Army National Guard. He was a member of People’s Baptist Church, The National Guard Association, Veteran’s of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and was a Kentucky Colonel.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Muriel C. Allen; three daughters, Nellie A. Rhoades of Godfrey, IL, Betty Powers of Seminole, FL, and Linda Camron of Owensboro, KY; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2001 at Glenn Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Reverend Odell Beauchamp. Burial will follow in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. His family will receive friends from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 7, 2001 and after 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Philip John Harrington, Jr.

Mr. Philip John Harrington, Jr., 72, of Owensboro, died Friday, April 6 at the Owensboro Mercy Health System. A native of Nashua, NH, he was retired from the PB&S; Chemical Company and worked partime at Kuesters in Owensboro. He was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church, a graduate of the University of New Hampshire in Business, a Kentucky Colonel, and a model train enthusiast - a member of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad Co. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by a son, John Philip Harrington, III, in 1987.

He is survived by 2 sons, Earl Harrington of Franklin and James Harrington of Robards, 3 daughters, Judy Edward of Leon Springs, KS, Sharon Powell of Spring, TX, and Cathy Harrington of Owensboro, 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, and 1 brother Richard Harrington of Nashua, NH.

Funeral services are Monday, April 9 at 1 P.M. at Precious Blood Catholic Church with burial in Rosehill cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3-8 P.M. Sunday and after 10 A.M. Monday.
