Queenie Roberts Green, 62, of Sorgho, died Wednesday, April 23, 2003 at the Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Daviess County native was a member of the St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church. She worked for 28 years as a Nurse Assistant at the Mercy Hospital and until 2001 at the Owensboro Mercy Health System

She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Joseph F. Green; a daughter, Jennifer Nicole Green of Sorgho; a step-daughter, Mary Beth Edge of Owensboro; five step-sons, Steve Green and Chris Green both of Sorgho, Jeff Green of Utica, Mike Green of Owensboro, and David Green, of Delaware ; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Haywood of Owensboro; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are 10 A.M. Saturday, April 26, 2003 at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church with burial in Resurrection cemetery. Friends may call at the Glenn Funeral Home from 4-8 P.M. on Friday, April 25, 2003 and after 8:30 A.M. on Saturday, April 26, 2003. Prayers will be said at the funeral home at 6:30 P.M. on Friday evening.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church Building Fund.

William David Shively Jr.

William David Shively Jr., 69, of 3519 St. Ann St., Owensboro, died Sunday, June 6, 2004, in Owensboro. He was born in Owensboro on Sept. 14, 1935, to the late William David and Frances (Hester) Shively. He was employed at Coca-Cola Bottling Co. for 49 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and loved to fish.

Survivors include three sons, David W. Shively of Owensboro, Larry D. Shively of Philpot and Tim A. Shively of Smyrna, Tenn.; and seven grandchildren.

Services are at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Owensboro. Entombment will be in Resurrection cemetery Mausoleum in Owensboro. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at James H. Davis Funeral Home, where prayers will be said at 5 p.m. today.

Martin Buel Lee

GREENVILLE - Martin Buel Lee, 72, of Greenville died there Thursday, June 10, 2004, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital. He was a retired painter.

Survivors include his wife, Anna Lee; three sons, Terry Lee, DeWayne Lee and Johnathon Lee; a daughter, Sheila Gish; two stepsons, Donald Adler and Ronnie Adler; one stepdaughter, Doris Adler; two brothers, Paschal Lee and Drexel Lee; and two sisters, Doris Dukes and Sybal Broderick.

Services: 2 p.m. today at Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial: Powderly Memorial Garden cemetery.

Norene Lovell Scott

CENTRAL CITY - Norene Lovell Scott, 78, of 504 Center St., Central City, died at 3 p.m., Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at her residence. She was born in McLean County on April 9, 1926, and was a member of Island Methodist Church. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Scott, in 1993.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, James Richey and Carole Scott of Nampa, Idaho, Mack Allen and Debbie Scott of Sacramento and John Ellis and Suzanne Scott of Hanson; four daughters and sons-in-law, Alana Sue Sanders of Bremen, Jacqueline Ann and Mac Mata of Killeen, Texas, Virginia Lovell Scott and Jeff Geary of Central City and Melissa Scott Epley and Jimmy Epley of South Carrollton; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Services are at 2 p.m. Friday, June 11, at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Arnold Harper officiating. Burial will be in Island Methodist cemetery. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today, June 10, at the funeral home.

Sgt. James 'Jimmy' William Harlan

Sgt. James "Jimmy" William Harlan, U.S. Army, died Friday, May 14, 2004, from wounds suffered in an attack on his convoy near Camp Anaconda, Iraq. Born in Daviess County on Dec. 4, 1959, Sgt. Harlan was a reservist deployed with the 660th Transportation Unit and had been in Iraq since February. Sgt. Harlan was a professional truck driver, welder and heavy equipment operator. Prior to his deployment he worked for the Owensboro City Street Department. Sgt. Harlan enjoyed fishing, baseball, football, basketball, NASCAR, hunting, softball and watching Western movies. He served as a Little League coach for three years. He was very proud to serve his country. He was preceded in death by his father, William Arthur Harlan, in 1988; and a stepbrother, Michael Earl Calloway.

Surviving are five children, James B. Harlan of Bowling Green, David S. Harlan of St. Cloud, Fla., and Jacob Alexander Roberts, Tara Strelsky and Amanda Prout, all of Owensboro; his mother, Doris Marie Gray of Owensboro; his fiancée, Carol Gray of Owensboro; two grandchildren, Jaidyn Anais Main and Abigail Lynn Rose Prout of Owensboro; a stepson, Bobby Gray of Owensboro; a stepdaughter, Brittany Gray of Owensboro; two brothers, Kenny Likens and DeWayne Likens of Owensboro; two stepbrothers, Randall Wingfield and Steve Wingfield; a sister, Doris Taylor of Owensboro; and seven nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Monday, May 24, at Glenn Funeral Home. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday and after 8:30 a.m. Monday.

Alan B. Stewart

Alan B. Stewart, 65, of 2211 Westview Drive, Owensboro died Friday, May 14, 2004, at Bon Harbor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center from complications of Alzheimer's disease. He was born Dec. 31, 1938, to the late Joseph Alan and Alice Baird Stewart in Akron, Ohio. He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, a Navy veteran and a square dance caller for many years.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Carol Rollwage Stewart of Owensboro, who is employed at Wal-Mart; one son and his wife, Robert Alan and Amy Stewart of New Braunfels, Texas; one daughter and her husband, Janet and Brent Bergen of Owensboro; and four grandchildren, Molly and Heather Stewart, Kristen and Wesley Bergen.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, May 17, 2004, at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today and after noon Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Green River Area Development District, 3860 U.S. 60 West, Owensboro, KY 42301 or St. John's United Methodist Church, 2160 Griffith Ave., Owensboro, KY 42301.

Murline Jackson Anderson

Murline Jackson Anderson, 91, of Owensboro passed away Saturday, May 15, 2004, at her daughter's home. She was born in Hancock County on July 29, 1912, and her parents are deceased. She was one of two girls born to Zula and Bertram Ewan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ramond T. Jackson; three daughters, Leda, Anna and Donna; and two sons, Jerry and Bertram Jackson. She was also preceded by her sister, Lucile; and her second husband, John Anderson. She was always an avid gardener and active in her church until her health failed. She was always the center of her family.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Lavetta Jackson of Hawesville and Mitchell and Sandra Jackson of Libby, Mont.; a daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Ronald Roebuck of Owensboro; a daughter-in-law, Linda Jackson of Owensboro; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville. Burial will be in Pellville cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Pellville cemetery Fund.

Anna Sue Newton

Anna Sue Newton, 72, of Philpot died Friday, May 14, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born in Hancock County.

Survivors include her husband, James Thomas Newton; five sons, Gregory Newton, Ray Newton, Michael Newton, Cary Newton and James Michael Noffsinger; four daughters, Cherrokee Embry, Marlene Embry, Mary Payne and Marcia Morris; 37 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Cathrine Dahill.

Services are at 2 p.m. Monday at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville. Burial will be in Roseville cemetery in Hancock County. Visitation is after 2 p.m. today and after 11 a.m. Monday at Cecil Funeral Home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Anna Newton Memorial Fund.

Ada Catherine Greer

VERO BEACH, Fla. - Ada Catherine Greer, 94, of Vero Beach passed from this life on Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at Tandem Health Care in Vero Beach after a prolonged illness. Mrs. Greer was born on Jan. 12, 1910, in Owensboro. She moved with her husband Wilson to Vero Beach in January of 1991. Earlier in her life, for 41 years Mrs. Greer was a teacher and elementary school principal in the Owensboro-Daviess County school system. Following her retirement, she served for many years as president of the Owensboro-Daviess County Retired Teachers Association. She is sadly missed by her friends in Owensboro.

She is survived by her husband, Wilson B. Greer of Vero Beach; a daughter, Kaye Wilson (Larry) West of Vero Beach; two grandchildren, Amanda Catherine (Doug) Lewis of Colleyville, Texas, and Spencer Guymon (Nicole) West of Vero Beach; a great-grandson, Riley Guymon West of Vero Beach; and a sister, Helen (Jim) Holditch of North Carolina.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Mission Work, Vero Beach Church of Christ, 3306 20th St., Vero Beach, FL 32960. Arrangements are under the direction of Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory in Sebastian, Fla.

Nellie Ruth 'Nanny' Pierce Smith

Nellie Ruth "Nanny" Pierce Smith, 55, of 2802 W. Fourth St., Owensboro died on Thursday, June 10, 2004. She was born in Daviess County, had been a private sitter and was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Central City. She enjoyed reading and listening to gospel music.

Surviving is her brother and his wife, Lawrence and Mary Pierce Jr. of Owensboro; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 13 at the Glenn Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. today and after noon on Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Goodloe Center, 820 W. Third St., Owensboro, KY 42301.
