STEPHENSPORT - Thomas Gootee, 52, of Stephensport died Thursday, May 13, 2004, at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital. He was a logger.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Gootee; a son, William Thomas Gootee; a daughter, Mindy Gootee; three brothers, Frances Lee Gootee, Jack Gootee and Samuel Gootee; and two sisters, Georgie Miller and Maggie Ammons.

Services: 2 p.m. Sunday at Wallace Funeral Home in Cloverport. Burial: Cedar Hill cemetery in Stephensport. Visitation: From 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and after noon Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions: Thomas Gootee Memorial Fund, c/o Wallace Funeral Home.

James M. Levitch Sr.

James M. Levitch Sr., 78, of 3522 Monticello Drive, Owensboro died at 5:20 a.m. on Friday, May 14, 2004, at his home. He was born June 30, 1925, in Daviess County and retired in 1993 after 53 years as an owner, breeder and horse trainer of thoroughbred horses. He received many awards, such as Horse of the Year, Breeder of the Year and many, many first place trophies. He was a member of Walnut Memorial Baptist Church and an U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Juanita Cecil Levitch in 1995; his father, Jake Levitch in 1973; and his mother, Mabel C. Levitch in 1998.

Survivors include a son, James M. Levitch Jr. of Owensboro; three grandchildren, Darell Levitch of Louisville, David Levitch of Atlanta and Heather Levitch of Louisville; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are at 11 a.m. Monday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Castlen officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday at Haley-McGinnis.

Lucile J. Hazelwood

HENDERSON - Lucile J. Hazelwood, 96, of Henderson died at 3:52 a.m., Thursday, May 13, 2004, at Redbanks Nursing Home. She was a member of Airline Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melrose Hilton Hazelwood Sr.; two sons, Meredith J. Hazelwood and Hilton Hazelwood Jr.; and her parents, Richard S. and Helen Ann Faith Jennings.

Survivors include three daughters, Pansy Shorland of Colorado Springs, Colo., Janice Perry of Henderson and Millie Reynolds of Dayton, Ohio; a son, Kenneth Hazelwood of Owensboro; two sisters, Pansy Duncan of Delaware and Hallie Von Sachse of Evansville; a brother, Richard A. Jennings of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home in Henderson. The Rev. Nathan Whisnant will officiate. Burial will be in Fairmont cemetery at a later date. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and after 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Airline Baptist Church.

Frances Jean Baker Attebury

Frances Jean Baker Attebury, 77, of 2920 Yale Place, Owensboro passed away Friday, May 14, 2004, at Bon Harbor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Carmi, Ill., and retired from the healthcare field. She was the daughter of the late Harry A. and Lilly Katherine Bowen Baker and her stepfather, Monroe Gosnell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John H. Attebury; a sister, Mary Hawkins; and a brother, Harry T. Baker. She was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed crocheting and working crossword puzzles and loved all types of animals. She lived for 15 years in Rock Falls, Ill., then moved to Texas for 27 years before moving to Owensboro where she lived for the last five years.

Surviving is her sister, Barbara (Hershel) Johnson of Owensboro; four nieces, Linda (Riley) Westerfield, Debbie (Vernon) Dinning and Betty (David) Underhill, all of Owensboro and Mona Kay (Ed) Olinsky of Trophy Club, Texas; and an aunt, Martha Westfall of Carmi.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, May 17, 2004, at Christ Chapel at Owensboro Memorial Gardens where she will be entombed following the service. Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Owensboro Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 910 Booth Ave., Owensboro, KY 42301.

Frank A. Mitchell

Mr. Frank A. Mitchell, 65, of 4810 Old Lyddane Bridge Road, Owensboro, died Wednesday, May 12, 2004, at his residence. He was born Sept. 1, 1938, in Owensboro to the late Raymond L. and Doris Rone Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell was previously employed as a professional photographer for Texas Gas Transmission Corp. for more than 18 years, and left to fulfill his lifelong dream of a farming career in 1976. He was also involved as a partner at Planters and Center Brick tobacco warehouses. He was a member of the board of directors at National City Bank and Sorgho Airport Fire Department. Mr. Mitchell served in the U.S. Army in the medical research unit. He was a former member of Daviess County Lion's Club and served on the board of directors of Orbit Gas Co. He was a loyal supporter of Kentucky Baptist Homes for Children and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Ann Taylor Mitchell; a special son and his wife, Lee A. and Teresa Mitchell of Owensboro; and two wonderful granddaughters, Zachary Allen Mitchell and Keeley Rone Mitchell.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 15, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove cemetery in Daviess County. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at James H. Davis Funeral Home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Kentucky Baptist Homes for Children, 10200 Linn Station Road, Suite 200, Louisville, KY 40223-9964, Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, 5664 Highway 56, Owensboro, KY 42301 or Hospice and Palliative Care of the Ohio Valley, 723 Harvard Drive, Owensboro, KY 42301.

Margaret Clara Bell Clark

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - Funeral services for Margaret Clara Bell Clark, 84, of Jacksonville will be Friday, May 14, 2004, at 2 p.m. from the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville. The body will lie in state at the church from noon to 2 p.m. with the Rev. Bert Breland officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at K.L. Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Jacksonville today from 6 to 8 p.m. Mrs. Clark died Monday, May 3, 2004, at Jacksonville Medical Center.

Survivors include a son, Daniel A. Clark Jr. and his wife Kaye of Owensboro; a sister, Elizabeth Puckett and her husband Sam of Ormond Beach, Fla.; two grandchildren, Daniel A. Clark III and Alex Clark, both of Owensboro; a niece, Jane Brooks of Heflin, Ala., and two nephews, Steve Puckett of Ormond Beach and Larry Bell of Heflin.

Mrs. Clark was a retired medical technician at Anniston Memorial Hospital. She served the First Baptist Church as children's director for many years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, P.O. Box 400, Jacksonville, AL 36265.

William 'Bill' Anderson

William "Bill" Anderson, 89, of 2517 W. Ninth St., Owensboro died Friday, May 14, 2004, at Bon Harbor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Nashville and retired from Green River Steel. He was a member of Zion Missionary Baptist Church and was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary E. Morton on Sept. 18, 1997.

Survivors include his wife, Clara Bernice Anderson; two daughters, Jessie C. Nurse and Shirley A. Howard of Owensboro; a son-in-law, Sylvester Nurse of Owensboro; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Charles William Hanley of Owensboro; two sisters-in-law, Mary Lyons of Detroit and Delois Hightower of Pensacola, Fla.; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.

Services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at Zion Baptist Church in Owensboro. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at Zion Baptist Church. McFarland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Thomas Glen Arnett

GRAHAM - Thomas Glen Arnett, 81, of 281 Arnett Lane, Graham, died Wednesday night, June 9, 2004, at 11:43 a.m. in Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville following a short illness. He was born March 18, 1923, in Vincennes, Ind., the son of James Ellis Arnett and Mary Tyson Arnett. He was a member and retired deacon of Corley Chapel General Baptist Church in Graham. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He retired in 1983 after 30 years with Green River Steel in Owensboro. He was a Mason for 40 years. He was preceded in death by a sister, Adell Stovall; and five brothers, Billy, Courtland, Clarence, Junie and Ernest Ray Arnett.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday morning, June 12, at 10 a.m. from Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville by the Rev. Barry Noe and the Rev. Walter Evitts. Burial will be in Corley Chapel cemetery in Graham.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ressie Rose Arnett of Graham; two sons, Larry Arnett of Graham and Charles Dan (Rose) Arnett of Winter Harbor, Maine; two grandsons, Christopher Thomas Arnett and Charlie Arnett, both of Winter Harbor; a great-granddaughter, Emelia Arnett of Winter Harbor; two brothers, John (Connie) Arnett of Graham and Bobby (Doris) Arnett of Depoy; and a sister, Evelyn Tarrants of Graham.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Laszlo 'Lester' Morcz

Mr. Laszlo "Lester" Morcz, 67, of 1600 Mayo Ave., Owensboro, died Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born in Budapest, Hungary, on June 9, 1936, to the late Gabor and Margaret Brair Morcz. In 1956, while a Hungarian freedom fighter, he escaped to the United States. He was retired from Alcoa Warrick Operations in Warrick County, Ind., after 16 years of service as a tool and die maker. He enjoyed playing the accordion and writing music.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Glenda Sumner Morcz; two sons, Gabor Steven Morcz and his wife Rhonda of Owensboro and Geza Shaun Morcz of Owensboro; two grandchildren, A. Brhett Morcz and Garrett W. Morcz; a brother, Gabor Morcz of Budapest; and a sister, Maria Morcz of Budapest.

Funeral services will be at noon Friday at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove cemetery in Sorgho. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at the funeral home.

Delema Faye Brown

POWDERLY - Delema Faye Brown, 87, of Powderly died Wednesday, May 12, 2004, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.

Survivors include two sons, Bruce Brown and Barry Brown; three brothers, Clarence D. Edwards, Hildred Edwards and Bernie Edwards; and three sisters, Marion Vincent, Carolyn Bowen and Anna Bouvier.

Services: 1 p.m. Sunday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial: Old Bethel cemetery. Visitation: After 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Ellis Horsley Jr.

CALHOUN - Ellis Horsley Jr., 69, of 3702 Highway 593, Calhoun, died Thursday, June 10, 2004, at his home. He was born on Oct. 30, 1934, in Maceo to the late Ellis and Mintie (Wilson) Horsley. He was retired from Big Rivers Electric Co. where he was a control room operator. He was a member of First Christian Church. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean conflict. He enjoyed gardening, NASCAR racing, Atlanta Braves baseball and UK basketball.

Survivors include his wife of 12 years, Nona Faye Childers Horsley; two sons and daughters-in-law, Walter Brent and Kirstin Horsley and Michael D. and Donna Horsley, all of Owensboro; a stepdaughter, Donna Carter Basham and husband Winfred of Owensboro; five grandchildren, Samantha Horsley, Bryant Horsley, Garett Horsley, Cameron Horsley and Tara Criss; a daughter-in-law, Cindy Horsley Mills of Owensboro; and a sister, Mary Sue Horsley of Owensboro.

Services are at noon Saturday, June 12, at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial is in Elmwood cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Green River Hospice, 109 S. 2nd St., Central City, KY 42330.
