Charlesetta 'Chunk' Roby Howard
06/02/04

Charlesetta "Chunk" Roby Howard, 85, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Leisure Years Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. A lifelong native of Knottsville, Mrs. Howard was born Oct. 17, 1918, to the late Lawrence and Mary Elizabeth Aull Roby. She was a member of St. William Catholic Church and was retired from Knottsville Personal Care Home where she worked as an aide. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent Howard, in 1982; and two daughters, Dorothy Howard in 1982, and Georgia Lindsey in 1972.

She is survived by two sons, Charles J. "Charlie Joe" Howard of Knottsville and Thomas "Tommy" V. Howard of Owensboro; six daughters, Mary Ann Howard of Knottsville, Ruthie Payne, Nancy Greathouse, Freda Rhodes and LaDonna Shrewsberry, all of Owensboro, and Vicki Wright of Whitesville; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Friday at St. William Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at Glenn Funeral Home from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday and after 9 a.m. until noon Friday, where prayers will be said at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Bishop Soennecker Home, 9545, Highway 144, Philpot, KY 42366.

Lillian Chappell Stiff

HARDINSBURG - Lillian Chappell Stiff, 90, of Hardinsburg died Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Hardinsburg United Methodist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Cecil Elroy Stiff, Ken Stiff and David Stiff; and two daughters, Gunyd Lyons and Betty S. Brooks.

Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, June 5, at Hardinsburg United Methodist Church. Burial: Cloverport cemetery. Visitation: From 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg. Memorial contributions: Hardinsburg United Methodist Church.

Lorene Barrow

FAIRFIELD GLADE, Tenn. - Lorene Owens Barrow, 77, of Fairfield Glade passed away May 31, 2004, at her home. She was born on Dec. 6, 1926, in Owensboro, the daughter of Herbert Owens Sr. and Ollie Mae Downs Owens. Mrs. Barrow was an assembly technician for General Electric and charter member of the Fairfield Glade Baptist Church. She was an artist and enjoyed sewing. Mrs. Barrow was a wonderful mother who will be greatly missed by all.

Survivors include two daughters, Maria Wright of Owensboro and Pamela Thomas of Alaska; five sons, Allen Barrow of Owensboro, Raymond Barrow of Crossville, Tenn., Robert Barrow of Maryland, Rex Barrow of New Jersey and David Barrow of Durham, N.C.; 21 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Barrow; her parents, Herbert and Ollie Owens Sr.; two brothers, Russell Owens and Herbert Owens Jr.; and a sister, Thelma Vaden.

The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 5, at Fairfield Glade Baptist Church with the memorial service following at 1 p.m. Saturday and Brother Doug Turner officiating. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. The family requests that memorials be made to Fairfield Glade Baptist Church Building Fund or Hospice of Cumberland County. Bilbrey Funeral Home, Inc. in Crossville is in charge of arrangements.

Mary F. Sanders

CLOVERPORT - Mary F. Sanders, 78, of Cloverport died Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital. She was born in Breckinridge County on July 10, 1925, the daughter of the late Alfred Armstrong Miller and Myrtle Gabbert Miller. She was of the Pentecostal faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Amiel Sanders, on Feb. 7, 1995.

Survivors include two sons, Alfred Sanders of Ekron and Johnny Sanders of Irvington; four daughters, Dianne Board, Judy Corley and Doris Smith, all of Cloverport, and Donna Belcher of Owensboro; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 5, at Wallace Funeral Home in Cloverport with the Rev. Dale Miller officiating. Burial will be in Cloverport cemetery. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. today, June 4, and after 8 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

James O. 'Chick' Burden

CLOVERPORT - James O. "Chick" Burden, 90, of Cloverport died Friday, June 4, 2004, at his home. He retired from American Olean Tile Co. and was an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include two sons, James Burden Jr. and Paul K. Burden.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday at Wallace Funeral Home in Cloverport. Burial: Cloverport cemetery. Visitation: From 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday and after 8 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Larry Cooper
06/05/04

Larry Cooper, 62, of 2429 Elder Drive, Owensboro died Friday, June 4, 2004, at his home. He was born August 28, 1941, in Detroit to Charles Wendell Cooper and Bessie Cauley Cooper and retired from NSA as a maintenance supervisor after 29 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and enjoyed NASCAR and watching University of Kentucky basketball.

Survivors include his wife, Anice Cooper; two sons, Larry C. Cooper of Owensboro and Brian K. Cooper of Owensboro; a granddaughter, Erica Taylor Cooper; his mother, Bessie L. Cooper of Owensboro; two brothers, David G. Cooper of Owensboro and Michael W. Cooper of Owensboro; and three sisters, Patty Pierce of Owensboro, Judy Murphy of Owensboro and Vicky Payne of Owensboro; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are at 3 p.m. Monday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lloyd Dunn officiating. Visitation is from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday and from noon to 3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Ruseaw 'Dude' Duggins Jr.

FALLS OF ROUGH - Ruseaw "Dude" Duggins Jr., 69, of Falls of Rough died Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital.

Survivors include his children, Timmy Duggins and Michelle Wade.

Services: 1 p.m. Friday at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg. Burial: Glen Dean cemetery. Visitation: From 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 8:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions: Glen Dean cemetery.

Robert T. Miller

UTICA - Robert T. Miller, 44, of Utica died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at his home. He was born in Belvidere, Ill., was the hatchery manager for Perdue Farms, was a baker and owner of Somethin' Sweet Gourmet Cakes and had been in the U.S. Coast Guard for eight years. He was presented Perdue Farms' highest recognition award "Perdue Excellence Award" for his outstanding community service by Frank Perdue. He was a member of Perdue Farms Offsight Safety Committee, he assisted with the Ohio County High School Wrestling Team, and the Ohio County Hospital Auxiliary, Repair Affair and Habitat for Humanity and was a good friend to Ohio County EMS.

Survivors include his wife, Karen Miller; a son, Robert Bronson Miller; a daughter, Eden Electa Miller; his parents, Curtis C. and Julia Miller of Youngville, N.C.; three brothers, David Miller of Hartford, Curtis Miller II of Denver and Steven Miller of Wake Forest, N.C.

Services are at 1 p.m. Friday at Bevil Bros. Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Burial will be in Beulah cemetery near Hartford. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Friday until funeral time.

William 'Buster' Hugh Hardesty

William "Buster" Hugh Hardesty, 77, of Whitesville died Thursday, June 3, 2004, at his home. He was born Oct. 24, 1926, in Daviess County and retired as an assembler from Whirlpool. He was a member of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church and Local 808 of Evansville. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and preceded in death by a son, Michael Frederick in 1992.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Catherine Hardesty; three sons, Danny Hardesty of San Francisco, Joe Hardesty of Hartford and Jerry Hardesty of Whitesville; six daughters, Charlotte Ralph, Susan Gossett and Dottie Pogue, all of Hartford, Theresa Stalling of Knottsville, Monica Rhodes of Whitesville and Mary Lou Brumley of Owensboro; 33 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and eight sisters, Sister Anna Jeanne Hardesty of Nazareth, Ky., Evelyn Hagan and Teresa Wedding, both of Whitesville, Rita Wink of Utica, Virgilia Crowe of Maceo, Norma Jean Crowe of Fort Wayne, Ind., Rose Knott of Fort Wayne and Lillian Elterman of Vincennes, Ind.

Services are at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery in Whitesville with full military honors conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 696. Visitation is after 1 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday at Cecil Funeral Home. Prayers will be said at 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice Association.

Ruby May (Coombs) Sharp

VENICE, Fla. - Ruby May (Coombs) Sharp, 88, of Venice, formerly of Owensboro, died Sunday, May 30, 2004, in Venice. She was born May 23, 1916, to the late G.W. and Mamie Williams Coombs in Ohio County. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. Ruby became a Christian at the early age of nine and has been involved in church work for more than 60 years by teaching Sunday school, being a leader in WMU, a member of the Baptist women's association and many other committees and duties within the church. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star for more than 60 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Joe Daniel Sharp, who died on June 28, 2001.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Joy and Jim Mason of Venice; a grandson, Randy Mason; three great-grandchildren, all of Lexington; and a sister, Lorene Kessinger of Hartford.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 4, at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Entombment will follow at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Kentucky Baptist Homes for Children, 10200 Linn Station Road, No. 200, Louisville, KY 40223.

Mary Theresa Johnston Cave

Mary Theresa Johnston Cave, 63, of Owensboro died Saturday, June 5, 2004, at her sister's home. Born in Daviess County, she was a dietitian at Valley Institute and a member of the Harvest Baptist Temple. Mrs. Cave enjoyed outdoor activities, especially spending time in the parks. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Cave, in 2003.

She is survived by three sons, Richard Horne, Barry Horne and Troy Horne, all of Owensboro; a sister, Sheilann Horsley of Owensboro; four half brothers, James Johnston, Raymond Johnston and David Johnston, all of Owensboro, and Paul Johnston of Patesville; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services are at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro with entombment in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. today, 1 to 8 p.m. Monday and after 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice, 723 Harvard Drive, Owensboro, KY 42301.
