Gertrude Johnson Hall, 54, of Harrison County, died Saturday at Harrison Memorial Hospital, Cynthiana. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Johnny Lewis Hall, preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a son, Johnny Hall, and daughters, Barbara Ann Hall and Janice Hall.
Survivors include sons, Wayne Hall, Earl Hall and Jerry Hall, all of Harrison County; a daughter, Linda Lou Hall Lamb of Harrison County; sisters, Maggie Kirby, Nora Campbell, Paralee Hardy and Kate Stepp, all of Estill County; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunrise Cemetery.

Jane Catherine Heist, 84, of Ft. Mitchell, died Friday. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Jay Elmer Heist, died in 1975.

Earl Singleton, 77, of Elsmere, died at 10:10 a.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired machinist for White Consolidated Industries. He was a member of the American Legion and Covington Lodge No. 109 F&AM. His wife, Rowena Vallandingham Singleton, died in 1988.

She was a member of the Florence United Methodist Church and the Amalgamated Cotton Garment and Allied Industries Local 609. Her husband, Lewis E. Stephens, died in 1975.

Buford Jesse Summitt, 67, of Warsaw, died Saturday at Carroll County Memorial Hospital, Carrollton. He was a retired farmer and he attended Worthville United Pentecostal Church, Worthville. His wife, Daisy Summitt, preceded him in death.

Mary Marguerite Wedderstrand, 97, formerly of Florence, died at 5:50 p.m. Saturday at the Warsaw Nursing Home, Warsaw. Her husband, Harry Wedderstrand, died in 1988, and a son, Robert Wedderstrand, died in 1992. She was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Burlington.

Ft. Thomas' Dr. Robert Elroy Buten
Dr. Robert Elroy Buten never lost his love for medicine.
Even when he retired after more than 30 years in private practice, he continued as a volunteer instructor at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.
In that role, he supervised resident physicians in the eye clinic at University Hospital, imparting his knowledge as an ophthalmologist.
Dr. Buten, 71, of Ft. Thomas, died at 4:30 a.m. Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas.
The son of a physician, Dr. Buten graduated from the University of Cincinnati and completed post-graduate work in ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School. He entered private practice in 1955 when he set up offices in Newport. He retired in 1991.
"He was a hands-on kind of guy," said his wife, Mary, who worked with her husband 10 years at the office.
"He was warm, loving, considerate, compassionate, a gentleman, quiet, conservative," she said. "He was there whenever you needed him."
After he retired, he enjoyed working with his computer and dabbled in genealogy. He put together booklets for his children and other family members about the Buten family line.
He had been a member of the medical staffs at the St. Luke Hospitals and St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Northern Kentucky and University Hospital, Children's Hospital Medical Center and Bethesda Hospital in Cincinnati.
He also was a retired member of the American Medical Association, the Northern Kentucky Medical Association, the Kentucky State
Medical Society, the Cincinnati Society of Ophthalmology and was a non-resident member of the Cincinnati Academy of Medicine.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Other survivors include sons, Robert E. Buten and John K. Buten of Cold Spring, and James M. Buten and Richard D. Buten of Ft. Thomas; a daugh ter, Mary Ann Cottrell of Florence; stepsons, Michael Visse of Louisville, Mark A. Visse of Pensacola, Fla., and John D. Visse of Okeana, Ohio; stepdaughters, Kim Visse Cruze of Cincinnati and Mary P. Visse Turley of Spring, Texas ; and 24 grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Catherine of Sienna Church, Ft. Thomas. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Ft. Thomas. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Ft. Thomas.
